Acts 21:1-16 - Paul is resolved to be obedient to the call that Jesus has placed on his life at any cost because Jesus is his King, What will it cost you to follow Jesus as King?
Acts 20:1-12 We are the fortunate ones, though his name may mean luck or fortunate Eutychus is not the point of the story. He is the disturbance that distracts us from what is most important. What is distracting you from what is most important in your walk with Jesus?
Acts 18:24-19:10 - Its really easy to be critical of people, and even easier to simply "cancel" them when compared to the patient, loving, and gracious approach that Jesus requires. Our intent should be to walk with others as they grow, all the while encouraging them and speaking the truth in love.
Acts 18:1-23 - When we feel discouraged and defeated the most comforting words we can hear come from Jesus when He says I Am with you.
Acts 17:16-34 - Paul in Athens calls us out for our vain idol attempts at finding God. God desires for us to know Him, to glorify Him, and enjoy Him forever
Acts 17:1-15 - The Apostles were charged with turning the world upside down. Jesus is turning the world upside down
Acts 16:11-40 Paul and Silas proclaim the way of salvation which is belief in Jesus and His finished work.
Acts 15:36-16:10 Discipleship happens best in community on mission, the messiness of mission is what creates opportunities for us to grow in our faith.
Acts 15:1-35 - We enter the fellowship through the grace God shows to us and we nurture it by the grace we show to one another.
Acts 14:1-28. The journey to the kingdom comes with many tribulations. It's not about earning the kingdom but about reaching it.
Acts 13:13-52, Of all the things in life that have been put on hold lately, God is not on hold, He is sovereignly working behind the scenes. The Good News we talk so much about is the prime example as God is shown to have been sovereign over every part of it, it really is His Good News!
Acts 10:1-48: God shows no partiality therefore the good news of the kingdom is for everyone who believes
Acts 12:1-24, The church is the hands and feet of Jesus, and when she cares for the orphan and widow wounds are healed, and when she takes the message of Jesus to the world the lost are found, but when she prays God moves mountains!
Acts 11:1-30, There is a movement happening and that movement is made up of moments, moments where God is doing extraordinary things in the lives of individuals just like you. So what are you going to do about it?
Maybe the things you've been expecting aren't the things that satisfy, maybe God is using those unmet expectations to lead you to the unexpected expectations that only Jesus can fulfill!
Jesus made for us a once and for all sacrifice, His work is Final, Finished, and Forever!
Acts 10:1-48:
God shows no partiality therefore the good news of the kingdom is for everyone who believes
Acts 9:32-43;
Jesus uses both spiritual and physical restoration as evidence of His continued transforming work.
We Are Sojourn! This Sunday we explore what Sojourn is all about, here’s a hint, we are making Jesus known !
Acts 8:26-40.
Jesus continues His kingdom work through the presence and power of His Spirit in and through His disciples.
Acts 8:1-25
The Gospel defies every barrier by reconciling us to God and one another through Jesus Christ.
Acts 6:8 - 7:60
Continuing our series in. Those who surrender top the Spirit are those who come to repentance
Acts 5:12-42 - We continue our series through Acts. When push comes to shove God honours those who obey Him
Acts 4:5-22 There are lots of opinions out there about lots of different things, there is definitely no shortage there. However one thing the Bible makes abundantly clear is the exclusivity of salvation through faith alone in Jesus alone.
Acts 3:1-4:4
The visible kingdom demands a Jesus explanation that leads to repentance and repercussions
Acts 2:42-47
Luke outlines for us the 4 things that the first church devoted themselves to. The Apostles teaching, the one another, to the breaking fo bread, and prayer. Though things distract us from these things, though things get difficult we should be eager to maintain the unity that the Spirit has created.
Acts 2:1-13
When God enters in it always comes with some sudden and drastic result, that was no diffrent when the Holy Spirit arrived at Pentecost and its no different today when the Spirit comes to dwell in us!
Acts 1:4-26
Jesus commissions His disciples for the kingdom work ahead but first they must wait for the empowering of Holy Spirit just as Jesus promised would happen. The continued work of spreading the good news of the kingdom to the ends of the earth is done through the abiding and empowering work of the Holy Spirit.
Today we begin a new series through the book of Acts entitled Thy Kingdom Come.
Jesus spends the majority of his time on earth both before and after his death burial and resurrection teaching his disciples about the good news of God's coming Kingdom. What would it look like for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven? What impact would that have on your life and the world around us? The book of Acts is about what Jesus continues to do even today as His kingdom reaches the ends of the earth.
In a world of uncertainty and disintegrating trust wouldn't it be great if there were someone or something that we could put our confidence in? The Good News is that we can be fully assured of all of God's will. Following Jesus is a journey and Paul highlights for us 3 things we can be sure of on that Journey.
Greater is a series through the book of Colossians. Written by Paul to the church in Colasse encouraging them and us to have a greater vision of Jesus, to behold his absolute supremacy and allow that to permeate and transform our lives.
What now? It's a good question to ask once you have experienced the transforming power of the ruler of the universe! It's a good question to ask everyday as you seek to follow Jesus. The truth is God did not save us for our own benefit but his good purposes and pleasure! Paul directs the church to focus their attention outward, to Devote themselves to prayer rather than simply Default to prayer, to call on God to make His good news known and spread. Paul also calls us to Proclaim that message with grace, creativity, and urgency, the world is waiting to hear the message of the King.

Slavery is not something that is widely accepted anymore and for good reason. But when it comes to circumstances and situations in which Jesus has not released us we are faced with the question, how do we respond. The Gospel reforms our perspective and transforms our motivation. Whether our situation is favourable or not, our aim because of the Gospel should be to glorify Jesus.

Children obey your parents! Wow what a thought, but in a world that encourages a person to venture off on their own and do things their way that isn't easy. Fathers do not provoke your children? Raising children to know and love Jesus is not always easy either. But with a reformed heart, a new self, and the power of the Spirit we can follow the examples God has set for us. If Jesus is the example of obedience in all things then the Father is the example of loving discipline.

Giving up our own desires for the sake of others is not easy, especially when you are married. Every relationship is broken before it even begins and is susceptible to the fallen nature of our world. But the good news of the Gospel is that through the Spirit and the new self he is giving us we can overcome ourselves and truly lay our lives down for our spouse. We can experience the completeness and wonder of true love!

Mental Health matter to us all, we need to care for the vitality and well being of our minds just as much as our bodies and our souls. We need a holistic approach and that takes help. We need each other. This series aims to help alleviate the stigma of mental health and mental illness and bring the good news of the gospel to bare on our mental health.
So how do we respond, with hope. Empathy opens the door for hope to enter, empathy is our presence with people in the darkness, in their pain and hope is the soft glow of our candle in the night. Brene Brown offers a very clear definition of empathy, we tried showing this in our gathering but unfortunately had some technical difficulties. (You will notice a gap near the beginning where we tried to show the video).
Even in the darkest moments of life the hope have in Jesus is the light in the darkness.

We need each other. This series aims to help alleviate the stigma of mental health and mental illness and bring the good news of the gospel to bare on our mental health.
Feelings of unresolved guilt can be detrimental to our physical, mental, and spiritual health so how do we deal with them? In this message we explore two types of guilt, true guilt which requires repentance, and false guilt which requires healing. The good news is that when we acknowledge our struggles we can disarm the condemning voices and be free of feelings of guilt.

Shame is the negative emotions and feelings about who we are as people. Often times we feel as though our mental illness or lack there of is what determines our value as a person, but we are not our illness. We are made in the image of God and our value is measureless! Shame is fuelled by fear of all sorts and it isolates us and holds us captive. But the good news is the gospel strips shame of all its power, so we don't have to be alone.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Join us Sundays this December as we revel in the wonder of Christmas!
What are you waiting for? Maybe if you are finding your expectations continually disappointed you may need to raise them. Christmas morning only makes a difference because of Easter morning and what this little baby born in a manger accomplished on your behalf. As you anticipate Christmas this year allow all of your brokenness and baggage, suffering and loneliness, revive your anticipation of and need for a living saviour.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Join us Sundays this December as we revel in the wonder of Christmas!
The way we celebrate things like Christmas says a lot about what we believe. The feasts that God gave to Israel were important because they reminded them of what God had done and pointed them toward what He would do. Every party, feast, and celebration, every meal for that matter, are all shadows of a greater celebration. Christmas, with all its trimmings and traditions, reminds us of all that God has done for us and proclaims His glory to a watching world.
It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Join us Sundays this December as we revel in the wonder of Christmas!
There is a God in heaven who not only reveals mysteries, things yet to be revealed, but who also makes the impossible possible! Thats great news and should bring great joy to our lives, Christmas is the mystery of Jesus revealed!
Growth is largely determined by what nourishes our soul. Each every day we are confronted with a choice between rooting ourselves in Jesus or relying on the world around us. Contrasted with all of the hollow and empty things that the world offers us Jesus fills us and in him we can find the nourishing that our souls and causes us to grow.

Suffering is one thing in life we all face and one thing we aren't very good at. Sometimes the suffering we face is for unfair reasons and other times its because of something more noble. But when it comes to following Jesus and the suffering that comes with it we can rest assured that it gives us a reason for hope.

If Jesus really is Lord over everything, and if Jesus really holds all of creation together then regardless where we stand we continually rely on him whether we know it or not. What we believe is inconsequential to who Jesus is. But knowing that he is Lord of everything can be a source of great hope even if we don't fully understand or comprehend how.

What does it mean to live a life worthy of the Lord? It might not mean what you think, in fact if Jesus has already accomplished our freedom living a life that pleases him would look a lot like enjoying the freedom he has gifted us with instead of drudging through life, it might actually be the more abundant life.

The world needs some good news, and not just any heart warming story but a greater good news, one that transforms lives, that bears fruit, and grows. A good news that spreads across the world and gives hope that inspires faith in Jesus and love for others. The gospel of Jesus is Greater Good News!

Paul said that when a person puts their trust in Jesus and chooses to follow Him they become a new creation! The journey of discipleship is one of daily learning what it means to be a new creation in Jesus. When we are baptized our new name/identity is spoken over us, Father, Son, Spirit. This new name really helps to define who we now are becoming as a disciple of Jesus.
This week we talk about how the same Holy Spirit that empowered and sent Jesus empowers and sends us to proclaim the good news to the powerless. Therefore we are missionaries.
This four part series takes a look under the hood and explains what Sojourn Church is all about and where we are heading. Hope you'll join us for the journey!

A five week study through the book of Amos. God delivers His message of coming judgement to His people, not only displaying His sovereign rule over all nations but also His deep desire to see justice rule in the hearts of His people, only to ultimately put His justice on display for the world through His Son.
Week 5 - Amos 9:1-15
God always makes good on His promises! Wow what a powerful truth, of all of the things in this world we regularly hope in that truth right there trumps them all! Even in the midst of their destruction God preserved a remnant to restore. It is because of that promise that people from every nation can seek after God and be restored!
A five week study through the book of Amos. God delivers His message of coming judgement to His people, not only displaying His sovereign rule over all nations but also His deep desire to see justice rule in the hearts of His people, only to ultimately put His justice on display for the world through His Son.
Week 4 - Amos 7:1-8:14
What is something you take for granted? It's unfortunate that the things we take for granted we don't realize we take them for granted until they're gone. God's Word is the most life giving thing we have, the most life giving thing the Israelites had and yet they neglected and rejected it. When we continue to reject the Word of the Lord eventually the Word of the Lord goes silent!
A five week study through the book of Amos. God delivers His message of coming judgement to His people, not only displaying His sovereign rule over all nations but also His deep desire to see justice rule in the hearts of His people, only to ultimately put His justice on display for the world through His Son.
Week 3 - Amos 3:1-6:14
When God gets a hold of your life things change dramatically and there should be consistency between Sunday and every other day. We can't show up on a Sunday and "worship" Him and then on Monday go into work and cheat our way through life. God's people look dramatically different because of the finished work of Jesus, and it is because of that finished work that justice continues to roll like a never ending river.

God delivers His message of coming judgement to His people, not only displaying His sovereign rule over all nations but also His deep desire to see justice rule in the hearts of His people, only to ultimately put His justice on display for the world through His Son.
Week 2 - Amos 1:3-2:16
In Amos we have a clear warning from God, one that establishes God's rule and authority over every nation, one that establishes the guilt of those who reject God, and an opportunity to repent and turn to Him.

Week 1- Amos 1:1,2
An intro to the book of Amos and a complete read through of the book. God, like a lion leaving his den in search of his prey, roars from Zion, making it known to the nations that He is coming in judgement.
Happy Father's Day, to the dads out there and those men who seek to follow Jesus in every area of life, who set an example for us to follow, who lead us well, and care for us, we salute you! Following Jesus can be a difficult task and many people have given their opinion on what a follower of Jesus, what a man should be; strong, courageous, dignified, faithful. All great qualities but one we need, one that doesn't often get mentioned, compassionate. We need men to lead us and set the example of what it looks like to be compassionate. The world is hurting and lost in the dark, people are hurting and lost in the dark, and when they finally come into the light what they need most is compassion.
Social Media has and continues to change our culture and society everyday. It has enabled us to be more connected than ever before and more disconnected. But how can we engage with social media and not lose our sanity?
We all have issues in life that could do with some attention. Often times in the mess of life we get overwhelmed and loose our bearings; life becomes burdensome and unmanageable. But there is hope, even in the mess of life joy is possible! We just need to do some Tidying Up

Let's face it talking about money is not everyone's idea of a good time, there are few more polarizing topics to talk about especially in church! But money matters, and it demands our attention. When it comes to our finances we can't master our money if our money masters us. Instead we need to faithfully steward what God has given us.

Habits are inevitable, either we form them or they form us. But forming and establishing healthy habits is not always easy especially if some unhealthy ones are already in place.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, we all have relationships that could use a little maintenance. In fact relationships are so important to our emotional, mental, spiritual, even physical health that we can not afford to ignore them. But regardless how you would describe your relationships it is possible to encourage health and find joy!

Being busy is not inherently bad, but often times when we think we have control of the chaos it in fact has control of us. We get to the end of another week and regardless of how full our schedules were our lives are still empty. There are certain issues in life that drive us to be too busy and steal our joy. The Gospel renews our perspective on how we view our time and from where we find value.

Palm Sunday has long been a time in the Church to reflect on and remember that momentous occasion when Jesus entered Jerusalem during Passover. But what is the significance of Palm Sunday and how does it help us as followers of Jesus today?
At Sojourn Church we are passionate about leading people to follow Jesus in every area of life, we hope that this message will be used by the Spirit to encourage you on your journey!

As we wrap up our series we take a look at what Jesus might say to us as a church today. Throughout history God has called His people to be ready and to watch what He was about to do. Are we ready? Are we expecting God to do great things?
In this 8 part series we are studying the 7 letters in the book of Revelation that Jesus addresses to the churches in Asia Minor, modern day Turkey. We want to know what a Jesus Church should be about, what it should be characterized by. We want to be that church

What if the church shut its doors, would the community even notice? The church is meant to make a difference in the world around it; as it calls people to follow Jesus and transforms their live it transforms the community as well. The pride of self reliance leaves us spiritually bankrupt and blind to the issues and people that matter most to Jesus. Close companionship with Jesus is what enables us to be a church that makes a difference.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" These words have never been more true than in the church! Every obstacle we face can be overcome because Jesus has overcome, and in trusting in him we too can experience the vindication of his will accomplished!

Reputation isn't everything, sometimes what looks great from the outside is nothing but rotten on the inside! Reality always trumps reputation especially in the church. It's not enough to have a reputation of being a church that is alive if the church is actually dead. A Jesus Church is one that is truly alive because it abides in Him!

The church that is motivated by the love of Jesus to serve is the one that continues to multiply. At Sojourn our desire is to be a church where everyone is serving because of the love of Jesus. We recognize that we serve Jesus by serving others and that our church should be characterized as a church that serves!

There is only one truth that the should characterize the church and that is Jesus' truth. As followers of Jesus we believe the Bible contains the very words of God and can be trusted to reveal who God is and what he has done; trusted to tell us who Jesus is and how he has reconciled us to God. The world may have its own understanding or definition of truth but the church is to submit to the authority of Jesus and His truth.

We live in a world that is increasingly opposed to the Christian faith and the Church, but even in the face of insurmountable odds the church should stand courageous. A Jesus church is one that is characterized by courage even in the face of mounting opposition and pressure from the surrounding culture. A courage that comes from knowing that Jesus is the conquering King

The church should be characterized by Love grounded in truth. It should be the most welcoming of places, a place where people can connect and belong. A place where grace abounds and people can find space to learn and grow. All of this should emulate the very same love that Jesus has shown to us!

The Gospel motivates us to mission because of who Jesus has made us to be. We are not missionaries because we travel great distance to tell others about Jesus. In fact Jesus has made us to be missionaries and because of that we have a purpose and that is to tell others about Jesus!

Following Jesus is an ongoing journey and like any journey it comes with its fair share of set back. Discipleship is all about learning to let Jesus be King over every area of our lives. But the motivation for that should not be simple obligation or guilt but a deep appreciation for what Jesus has done. The gospel should inform discipleship every step of the way
