Today's guest today is Jon "maddog" Hall. To anyone who moves in the world of Linux and Open Source software, the name Jon “maddog” Hall is one that is going to be familiar. He is, among other things, a huge advocate for Open Source software, including Linux. He’s been a programmer, a systems administrator, a teacher, product manager, marketing manager, an author, a columnist, the Chairman of the Board of the Linux Professional Institute, and, as I mentioned, he is one of the best known voices in this community. In this interview, we cover a lot of ground including Scotch whisky, computer programming, Open Source, Linux, and how he got the nickname, “maddog”. We also talked about how he came to know a young Finnish student named Linus Torvalds, and we find out about maddog’s dislike for the x86 architecture.

Today's guest is Terry Hancock. Terry is a fascinating guy whose love of science, technology, and all things Open Source, has led him into some interesting territory that involves the colonization of the moon. Terry is has been, among other things, a professional astronomer, a regular columnist for "Free Software Magazine", the owner and technology officer for Anansi Spaceworks, an editor for "Question Copyright", and a driving force behind the in-production animated series, "Lunatics!" which, as I teased, deals with the colonization of the moon, including the first family of settlers.

Today's podcast features Carla Schroder, a self-described "tool nerd" who went on to become a big name in the world of open source articles, blogs, and actual paper books. Specifically, Carla has written "Linux Cookbook", "Linux Networking Cookbook", and "The Book of Audacity", all for O'Reilly. She's been an auto mechanic and a farmer and she loves Linux and open source software.

Today's podcast features Craig Maloney. Craig is a huge fan of Linux and Open Source Software, one of those people who has turned that passion into fun and career. He's a programmer, musician, gamer (and game-designer), and a collector of old computer systems. Craig is also the host of Open Metalcast, a podcast about metal music available under Creative Commons licensing. He's also the co-host of Lococast, a board member of the MUG, the Michigan UNIX User Group, and he is one of the people behind Penguicon, a combination Linuxfest and Science Fiction Convention. If that sounds like a strange combination, trust me on this. It works! He's worked on various open source projects, including a few games. He also maintains Tootstream, a command line client for Mastodon. In case you've never heard of it, Mastodon is a federated open source alternative to Twitter.
