Episode 35 is here! “Self love without self-awareness is useless.” There's no greater hypocrisy than meta-hypocrisy – hypocrisy about one's own hypocrisy. We draw the contrast by exaggerating how bad someone else is, but also by exaggerating how good we are in comparison. We instantly forget the times when we've acted like the person who angered us. We bemoan the lack of self-awareness in our politicians, bosses, and friends, we rarely consider whether we might have room to improve, too. It’s not that how we view ourselves is wrong or useless, nor should we develop an insecure concern about what people think. But because others see us more objectively than we see ourselves, we should take the time to understand their point of view. How else can we discover the hidden strengths that give us a unique edge, or the blind spots that are hurting our relationships without our even knowing it? I digress...episode 35 goes into detail about my thoughts and advice on this topic! #growuptoglowup #selfawareness #checkyourself

Remember the 2012 Atlantic article titled, "Why Women Can't Have it All" written by Anne Marie Slaughter? That article was read by more than 3 million women who somehow bought into the notion that women cannot have it all. Since then, there has been much hoopla about the topic with hundred of articles telling women why they can't have it all. Episode 32 of Ask Y Podcast by Dr. Yetunde challenges this very notion by asking, "Who says you can't have it all?"...according to who?

Episode 31 of Ask Y Podcast with Dr. Yetunde talks about learning how to identify different relationships and where to properly place people in your life. We misuse and loosely label people as friends when in fact they should be categorized differently. Episode 31 helps you to differentiate between associates, colleagues, confidants, friends and admirers. Everyone serves a different purpose in our lives and we should be careful not to expect the qualities of a friend from someone who may not have the capacity or intention to deliver on such expectations.

You've probably heard the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none." It implies that by trying to learn many things, you give up mastery of any of them. However, I think that is a lie! Like Quora designer David Cole says, "You don't have to pick between being great at one thing or just mediocre at many things." Listen to episode 29 of ASK Y podcast to find out my reasons why I think the phrase Jack of all trades, master of none is bogus.

What is your message to the world? What do people feel when they come in contact with you? What do they hear about you before meeting you? Everyday we communicate who we are to the world. In addition, we communicate what our individual message is to the world by something so simple as liking a post, sharing an article, posting a picture and by our daily activities. What is your message? How you live your life is your silent message to others, and it touches people in ways you’ll never even know. This comes across in your actions toward others, but also in how you approach your everyday life. Does how you're living your life communicate what you want the world to know about you or you struggling to find ways to present your most authentic self to the world? Listen to EP. 26 as Dr. Yetunde guides people on honing and finding their individual message to the world. In our ASK Y Portal online, listener Monique asks, "How can I be more confident in the workplace and in general?" Episode 22 of ASK Y Podcast, will talk about five steps to boosting your confidence and five steps can also kill your confidence. First and foremost let's define what confidence is, confidence is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities. It shouldn't be a surprise that being more confident at work and in life can mean more promotions and more benefits overall. However, a pilot study at the University of Melbourne found some correlation between confidence levels as early as primary school and success in the workplace as adults. This doesn't just apply to the workplace, either. Confidence is a necessary ingredient to success. In order to dream big, you have to first be confident in you abilities to achieve it and conscious of things that can also destroy it. In Episode 21 of Ask Y Podcast titled, "Friendship and Business: Can it Work?" I talk about famous founders who started off as friends and went on to build successful businesses (E.g., Apple, Spotify, Google, Microsoft, Proactiv, Juicy Couture, YouTube, and many more). However, If you’re considering your own friend-based startup, asking and answering certain kinds of questions is exactly what you should be doing first. I reference a Forbes titled, "5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Going Into Business With A Friend." This article provides you with 5 key questions you should reflect upon before jumping into a business or venture with a close friend or family member. They say, friendship built on business is better than business built on friendship. On thing that surprised me is the lack of women on the top ten most successful founders list who built companies with their friends. All the major founders are all males! I hope more women will be added to that list in the nearer future. The idea of mentoring is a common one, but the idea of a champion is rarely ever mentioned. There is a difference between having a mentor and a champion. As you start to climb up the professional ladder, its important to have a Champion. Champions are rare and often hard to come across. They are people who can make decisions that will directly impact your career. They make things happen. They advocate on your behalf when you are in or out of the room. They bring you to the table or influence those who are making decisions that may affect you. Mentors may give you time, advice and sometimes they are willing to make a few introductions. Don’t get me wrong, this is great, but what distinguishes a mentor and champion is that a champion is willing to take more of a RISK on you. In episode 20, I talk about the important of identifying a champion, knowing the difference between a mentor and champion and how you can be a champion in someone's life. Putting off the big things in your life until there is a better , more perfect time is actually dangerous. What happens if that time never comes? Or what happens if it did come and you couldn't recognize it because it did not appear with angelic wings and bright rays of light. "Now is not a good time," is often a common excuse of many. Time doesn't align itself for your goals, it happens whether you act or not. I live my life with the mantra that where you are in life, whatever stage you are in, whatever resources or lack there of that you have...is always an ideal time to make the most out of yourself. We waste so much time waiting for the perfect time to finally get that business running, finally settle down, finally have a family etc., without realizing the clock never waits to readjust or reorganize itself, it keeps ticking. Episode 18 talks about getting rid of the idea of "perfect timing" and finding the courage get to work on achieving your dreams and goals NOW.

Millennials, a generation of people often misunderstood. This massive generation filled with 18-34 years old are labelled repeatedly in articles, blogs, studies and in even casual conversations as entitled, self-absorbed, lazy and overly idealistic. Is this impression of millennials true? Possibly to a certain extent. In this episode, I talk about how millennials are the generation that refuse to put up with people, places, situations and things that do not contribute to their overall development and happiness. Businesses, politicians, employers and more don't know how to deal with young people who hold them accountable for their ridiculous behaviour. Of course you would be angry at a 20 something year old who is sharp as a button, probably created your favourite app, is willing to create an opportunity for themselves and isn't enticed by the corporate life...maybe just maybe the millennials can teach us more about pursuing your dreams unapologetically. Beware of predators. People who prey on potential, positivity, gentleness, beauty and take it for a sign of weakness. This episode is inspired by a quote written by Author C.Joybell C she writes, ...."Predators on anything that is happy and at peace they mistake for weakness. It's not your job to change these people, but it's your job to show them that your peace and gentleness do not equate to weakness..." The quote is much longer and it's titled, "Silk." Listen as I talk about predators and how to recognise them even if they come in the form on a family member, close friends, acquatainces, co-workers, helpers and others.

I literally had an "aha" moment this past weekend. Why is it that whenever people talk about passion (which I am guilty of) the word career follows? I understand wholeheartedly why it's important to find a job or choose a career path that you love. Let's face it, when it boils down to workplace productivity those who are passionate about their work produce the best results. I also understand that we spend most of our time at work which is why a heavy emphasis is placed on choosing the right career path or creating a business/start-up that your passionate about. But, I realized this past weekend, thanks to The Creativity Suite, that we are misusing the word passion. Society has trained us to believe that passion is inextricably linked to career. Whereas passion is something that is powerful enough to cut across every area of your life. We've spent so much time trying to find the fire in our careers that have lost or never thought to experience passion in love, relationships, family and more. I've ditched the whole career and passion mantra and created a better one for myself. I want to experience passion in every area of my life not just my career. Tune into episode 15 where I discuss my newfound epiphany on what passion really means. #askypodcast #podcast #passion #career

Comparison is a hurtful, shameful and distasteful thing to do to oneself. You are perfect and uniquely made just the way that you are! #askyetunde #asky

There is so much that is expected of us. Relationships, marriage, friendships all ask something of us and often times its too much. Philosopher Osho states, "Each person comes into this world with a specific destiny--he has something to fulfill, some message has to be delivered, some work has to be completed. You are not here accidentally--you are here meaningfully. There is a purpose behind you. The whole intends to do something through you.” Never let anyone stand in the way of fulfilling your destiny even if their reasons are rooted in love. We do God a disservice when we forgo our purpose to fit someone's else schedule or expectations. This episode talks about the importance of holding on to who you are and the fulfilling the vision for your life. #asky #askyetunde

After watching the Olympics, I was inspired by the level of tenacity and discipline the athletes displayed. As I sat and reveled at their performances, it dawned on me that in order to get to this level of competition not only does it require skill and awesome ability, it also requires disciple. Everything boils down to discipline. John MacArthur makes a great point when he says, "Why is discipline important? Discipline teaches us to operate by principle rather than desire. Saying no to our impulses (even the ones that are not inherently sinful) puts us in control of our appetites rather than vice versa. It deposes our lust and permits truth, virtue, and integrity to rule our minds instead.” This podcast will discuss the power of discipline.
