“How to Be Your Own Wealth Planner," is my new four-part mini-series on helping you to become your own wealth planner. As an independent financial advisor with 23 years of experience in financial services, I share my top insights on creating your personalized wealth plan.

I believe that everyone can create their wealth plans at a basic level and it can make a huge positive difference. With this first episode, I will help you to identify your desired financial future and then determine the goals you want to create to work towards this.

The first thing we need to consider and decide on when we are setting our money goals, is a timeframe, such as short-term, medium-term or long-term. Once you have done this, I would suggest you stick to and focus on only one time frame and I show you an example of how you can do this just head over to my YouTube channel to watch it if you are tuning in on the podcast. The link is below.

I also introduce the concept of a "bankometer," which is a visual tool to track progress towards each goal and it can be found in my wealth planner if you have a copy of this. If you don’t, you can create a page with three columns to record the goals and track financial milestones.

This tool will help you observe how you are saving, clearing debt, and making progress over time. By visually breaking down the goals into clear objectives, the bankometer can provide you with a sense of direction and motivation.

In the next session, I will delve into how to plan and make those money goals happen. So stay tuned for part two out next week.

Susan, who joined Scottish Widows two and a half years ago, brings over 30 years of experience in the industry and is now managing a sales team, helping employers create workplace saving schemes.

Susan shares the findings of Scottish Widow's 19th annual report, focusing on the structural inequalities that women face in retirement. The report used a new approach, examining the lifestyle women could expect in retirement rather than focusing on the savings index. The findings were stark, with 40% of women not having enough to meet the minimum standard of living in retirement. For single mothers, this figure was even higher at 75%.

Shifting the conversation to potential solutions that could improve women's financial well-being, Susan emphasises employers' role in changing the narrative around pensions and helping employees see the value of their contributions. She suggests employers should provide tools and resources to help employees understand their pension provisions.

This episode also touches on the concept of a "pot for life" and the proposed pensions dashboard, both aimed at simplifying pension management for individuals. Susan highlights the need for transparency and open conversations about money, both in the workplace and at home.

If you are interested in understanding the financial challenges women face when planning for retirement this podcast will be a great one to listen to.. It offers practical tips on taking control of your financial future and underscores the importance of early engagement and understanding pension provisions.

Rebecca Robertson engages in an insightful conversation with guest Jennie, an expert in will writing and estate planning. They delve into the intricacies of wills, trusts, and the importance of thorough estate planning. Throughout the discussion, they touch on various key points that shed light on the significance of these legal documents and the potential challenges that can arise.

From the role of professional organizations like the Society of Real Writers and the importance of continuing professional development (CPD) in the field. They highlight how being part of such networks allows individuals to share cases and seek advice on optimal strategies for specific scenarios.

Careful consideration when it comes to trust work, as it involves intricate legalities. They discuss the complexities involved and caution against hasty decisions without expert guidance. Trusts can be beneficial for individuals with large estates, but it is crucial to approach them with caution and seek professional advice.

Guardianship and funeral wishes emerge as two critical aspects of estate planning. The conversation touches upon the significance of designating guardians for children in a will, ensuring their well-being and future. They also stress the importance of clearly expressing funeral wishes to avoid family disputes and provide guidance for the executor.

Jennie highlights the value of creating a letter of wishes, a document that offers additional guidance to the executor and trusted individuals involved in executing the will. This document helps convey personal preferences and provides clarity on various aspects of the distribution of assets and execution of wishes.

Whether you are seeking guidance on guardianship, funeral wishes, or understanding the intricacies of trust work, this episode provides a wealth of information that will help you navigate the process with confidence and make informed decisions for the future.

Perhaps you may have heard this saying, and often, but I really want to stress the need for businesses to focus on metrics that matter, rather than getting caught up in vanity metrics like social media rankings and downloads.

Financial planning is important but not all financial planners are qualified, making it important to find a regulated advisor. The planning process is crucial in making sure that you know where you're going, how much you need, and what tools you need to achieve your financial goals. The three main reasons why everyone needs financial planning are accountability, decision-making, and reducing worry. It is important to have a clear picture of what you want your life to look like, and this can be done by working with a qualified advisor who can provide guidance, advice, and support. In this episode I will be sharing with you updates from a recent conference I was at. Plus I will be exploring with you the intriguing world of pensions and ISAs, where you can discover which investment options align best with your financial goals.

While pensions are traditionally seen as long-term investments for retirement, ISAs offer shorter-term benefits with tax advantages.

Deciding between ISAs and pensions depends on factors such as available funds, monthly surplus, tax positions, retirement age, and inheritance tax planning. Combining both investment vehicles can be an effective strategy, especially when maximizing tax benefits and ensuring a comfortable retirement. It's crucial to evaluate your pension contributions, consider long-term financial goals, and seek professional advice to make informed decisions about your financial future.

In this podcast episode, I talk about reducing risk when investing. that men are typically more accepting of risk and more likely to invest than women. Providing you with real examples of women who have inherited or earned a significant amount of money but lack the knowledge of investing.

I explain that as a financial advisor, my role is to assess clients' risk profiles and suggests ways of reducing risks. I also dive into the volatility of savings interest rates and how it affects investors' returns, advising you on how to fix savings rates for money that may be needed in the next year or two, as I predict that the bank base rate will decrease in the next 12 months due to the expected reduction of inflation.

In this podcast episode, I share how I had to take a break from the podcast due to massive overwhelm. I understand how overwhelming it can be when you are in that state and how sometimes you have to shift things back, take things off your plate, and let things sit.

Since I paused the podcast I wanted to share what had been happening, including some big decisions I’ve made about the business. During this time I learned more about my value and what was creating my future wealth, which allowed me to think about my long-term strategy as a business owner.

Giving notice to my existing network and moving to a new network that has a different language, way of working, and support system that is more focused on delivering an outcome for the client. I am excited about this shift, and since making the decision, I now feel like I’m back on the right path.

It’s about time, not timing when it comes to investing.

There is a common misconception that when it comes to investing that it's all about trying to time the market. Having to predict the future so you can buy when prices are low, sell when they are high, and make a return on your investments. But the thing is, no one can predict the markets and what they are going to do.

As a Financial Advisor who is all about stability, security & long-term planning. Advising people when they should invest is always a tricky subject because no one's got a crystal ball. We don't know what is around the corner.

Tune in to this episode of my podcast - Is now a good time to invest? Where I’ll be talking in more detail about how you can make the ride of investing a little less bumpy by ‘not putting your eggs in one basket.’

A recession is a significant decline in economic activity across a wide range of sectors and industries. Right now as I recorded this episode the UK is not currently in a recession. It's not been forecasted by the Bank of England, but there is a lot of talk about it is likely based on what is going on with consumers. A recession usually lasts for a prolonged period, typically six months or more.

They can have a significant impact on our lives, both financially and emotionally and during a recession, it is important to be proactive and take steps to protect your finances.

Here are six things you can do in a recession:

1- Build up your emergency fund to cover at least three months of essential outgoings. Make a budget and stick to it.

2- If you have debt, consider consolidating your debts into one lower-interest loan

3- Review your investment portfolio and consider selling any non-essential assets.

4- Look at your mortgage

5- Check your insurance to make sure you are adequately covered against things like sickness, unemployment, and accidents.

6- Review your pension and make sure you are on track to meet your retirement goals

It's one of the big questions that comes up quite a lot. Clients that I've talked to have lots of different pensions all over the place, they've often forgotten, then they don't know where they are, how much is in them, let alone what their fees are, what their charges are, what they're invested in what the risk profile is, or how much they actually could retire on. It's the ultimate question so listen to the full episode to find out more.

But let me tell you this, your residential home is not an asset. It's actually only an asset when it's sold and then you or your beneficiaries receive the money from it.

I always believe in a balanced approach not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Women are facing a lot of challenges in the financial world in the present day. I will be discussing the involvement and participation of women on the concerns with the pension gap, employment gap and spending decisions we make that affect our financial independence.

Facing these challenges is the key to addressing these. What we can do is sit with our partner/spouse and come up with financial decisions together. Assess what the income is and look at the outgoings including the lifestyle choices we make and decide how to divide the finances up. What matters is to take those conversations seriously, especially about pensions.

Financial abuse is massive within abusive relationships. Based on a survey, numbers show that money is the biggest problem in relationships because couples argue about money more than anything else. It is greatly influenced by the balance of power within a relationship.

Today’s podcast is about How To Overcome Financial Trauma and I’ll be joined by Caroline Strawson who is a multi award winning ICF Accredited Trauma Informed Coach and Therapist and founder of the CPD Accredited School of Embodied Trauma Informed Living.

Overcoming trauma is never easy. Trauma is something we have to process through the body otherwise, you're still going to be stuck in an endless loop over and over again. It is actually built within what you say to yourself about your events in your past that then gets stored in your body. The good news is we can heal that because it's in our power, within our control.

Emma Woolliams is a scientist who works with the satellites that are used to monitor our planet’s changing environment. She is also a mother of two. 20 years ago, Emma began to understand the evidence for climate change and, more importantly, the implications of a changing climate. Over the last 20 years she has tried, imperfectly, to live in response to that understanding. At times that attempt has been farcical (crying over green beans in Sainsbury’s), sometimes it has been surprisingly easy (cloth nappies even without a tumbler dryer) and at times the scale of the challenge has just felt overwhelming. Over that time, Emma has tried to find the compromise between “being green” and all the other demands on a busy working mother – should business trips to Berlin be by train when the flight gets you home to your toddler faster? Can you justify the flights to take your children to their grandparents in Canada or their cousin in Australia? A vegan meal cooked from dried chickpeas bought from a refill shop is clearly the right thing to do, but the family is hungry, you’re working late at night, and Tesco’s has plastic-packed microwavable chicken curries. And does any of this matter when emissions are still rising – isn’t the problem with governments? Many people are coming to these questions for the first time, Emma has wrestled with them for two decades.

In the latest episode of “Accelerating Your Wealth” podcast, women’s wealth strategist I discusses how successful women have negative mindsets, or money blocks, which are rooted in our upbringing and life experiences, and which affect our feelings and behaviours around finances. This is covered in my new book coming out 23rd September 2021 Sometimes these unhelpful attitudes come from childhood. Many highly successful women hold deep internalised moral beliefs passed on to us by parents; for example, that money is the root of all evil, or that the only acceptable way to acquire wealth is to work our fingers to the bone. Sometimes a life-changing event is the cause of a money block.

Today on the Wealth Series Interviews I am joined by the one and only Dr Joanna Martin (or Jo as I know her), founder of One of Many and all round Super Women. Dr Joanna Martin is a renowned visionary, coach, speaker and entrepreneur whose message and work have directly impacted over 120,000 people on four different continents.

Jo qualified as a medical doctor and spent a number of months in oncology where the death of a favourite patient provided a wakeup call to get her life “on purpose”. Within 6 months she had changed career and was accepted to the Actors Centre Australia. A desire for more led Jo to explore the field of human psychology, behaviour and growth, and in 2003 she launched her own coaching company in Sydney, with no network and no business experience. Within a year she had a thriving coaching practice, consulting with the likes of ANZ bank, John Fairfax Publishing and eBay.

Before launching One of many in 2014, Jo worked as Head of Research and Training at one of the fastest growing personal development companies on the international stage and launched Shift Speaker Training in 2008 taking it to 7-figures within just 12 months. She went on to share her speaking success secrets with over 23000 business owners over four years.

One of many exists to help women leaders to increase their impact without burn out. Since launch, One of many has reached over 60,000 women around the world. Our tools and principles have been applied by women in industries across the spectrum: rail to real estate, pharma to finance, politics to police, manufacturing to medicine, law to life in general!

An internationally acclaimed and award-winning speaker, Jo is also a diplomatic wife, a sometimes-too-tired mother, a protective sister, and a caring friend. She is a committed financial investor in the work of The Hunger Project and has trained over 70 of their fundraisers and facilitators.

Have you always wanted the opportunity to ask your Financial Planner or Advisor? Not quite sure where to start or how to format your questions in the right way to get the information you need?

In this episode, Rebecca goes right back to the basics that will give you an insight into how the Financial Advisor world works. It’s important to firstly note that there is a difference between a Financial Advisor/Planner and a ‘Money Coach, Business Coach’ etc., the main (and very important) difference is the Financial Conduct Authority (‘FCA’). Anyone who is going to give you actual financial advice have to be authorised by the FCA and follow the rules and guidelines implemented by them. Someone who works with a ‘coach’ style status do not have to work within a regulated environment, meaning that any advice they provide you does not have any protection and it would be your fault if you acted on the information and it didn’t work out. There are also people who work under both (such as myself!) and its really important you are clear which type of advice you are obtaining.

Both have excellent qualities, its all about you knowing which would work for you and your circumstance! So which questions should you be asking first?

BACKGROUND – What is your background? What experience have you had? What qualifications do you have?

PRICING AND PROCESS – What should you expect? How long will this take? When do you expect to see results? How is the relationship going to work? How much would it cost (don’t be scared to ask for a breakdown!)? Are there pricing plans available?

REGULATION (if you decide to go with a Financial Advisor) - What kind of advice can you offer (as regulated it may be restricted)? Do you hold the correct authorisation to offer me this advice? Are you freelance or with a firm? Who owns me (and my information) as a Client?

Getting the right questions at the beginning can really assist you when doing your due diligence to ensure you pick the right person for you. This could be a relationship that lasts a lifetime, so you want to make the right choice!
