The gang are away this week, but never fear! We have a Patreon unlock for you! in an episide that originally aired in February of 2024, Andy and Al talk all things LOOOOVEEE as we count down the top love interests that Link has had in the series (sorry guys, no Sidon, though we tried), from the fun and cute flings to the heartbreaking romances that destiny just wouldn’t allow. Plus, we’re counting down the best Zelda announcement trailers of all time (only rule is the trailer needed to provide new information)! From the epic Breath of the Wild 2017 trailer all the way back to the days of the early 2000’s in the hallowed pages of Electronic Gaming Monthly, we’re taking a trip through memory lane.

Come hang out with us and let us know what you think!

Rod is here to share about his experience at PAX West and his thoughts after playing the demo for Echoes of Wisdom! What portion of the game did he get to play? What kind of Echoes did he get to encounter? How did he feel about puzzles and combat after all was said and done? It was a busy week for Nintendo, as in addition to putting on Zelda-themed booth at PAX West, they also dropped a new Echoes of Wisdom trailer showing off tons of new footage and abilities! We’re joined by our good friend Corey Richmond this week as we break down the trailer and give our thoughts and takeaways; we go over the Still World, the void that only Zelda and Tri can enter; discuss our excitement for the return of traditional dungeons; and debate if the Swordfighter ability was truly needed, or if it’s a step backwards for Princess Zelda. We wrap it up with some stray observations and other notes on things that stood out in the trailer – if you want to watch it in video form, check out here!

All this, PLUS we give some quick thoughts on the Indie and Partner Direct, plus a little Zelda Cartoon and Rings of Power chatter! Come hang out with us!

We’re back for part two of our Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom hot takes (and a few Age of Calamity ones in there too!). This week, we’re tackling subjects like: was Yunobo the best character across the Wild era games? Do the Divine Beast dungeons offer a more welcoming for new players puzzle experience? Was it disappointing the Pirates in Lurelin were just Moblins? Are Remote Bombs the best rune/ability? Is Colgera seriously the most disappointing boss in the game? Was Calamity Ganon more interesting than Ganondorf?

All this and so much more, PLUS our thought on the Nintendo Museum and strange American geography! Come have a blast with us!

One of our favorite segments returns this week! We asked for YOUR spiciest hot takes regarding Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and boy oh boy, you guys delivered, SO MUCH SO that this will be PART 1 of a two part episode! We’re reacting to all sorts of takes, including: is Tears a great experience, or just glorified DLC? Is Cece’s Mushroom hat better than the Couples Mask? Would Kohga have been a better choice of villain than Ganondorf? Do fighting bosses again in the Depths diminish the impact of fighting them in a dungeon? Speaking of, are the dungeons of Tears and Breath of the Wild better than many traditional dungeons?

All this and so much more! If you want to contribute next week, feel free to do so, and we can even get Age of Calamity in on the action! Until next week!

We’re back for another fun episode this month! I’m joined by Legend Tier Patron Tony again to tackle a couple of fun subjects! First, we dive into our top ten NES enemies (just the common folk, no bosses!) and discuss everyone from the usual suspects – Darknuts, Lynels, Patras – to the more obscure picks – we don’t want to give any away! Next up, we’re talking about our favorite animal companions in the series – no prizes for guessing who came out at number one, but we had a blast!

Come let us know what you think of our list and let us know who your favorites are!

Hello Zelda fans! We got a nice treat this week, as Nintendo randomly dropped about 6 minutes of footage from Echoes of Wisdom for us to sink our teeth into! We discuss TONS of things shown off, including out thoughts on Bond and Reverse Bond and how that impacts the gameplay, smoothies and how they seem to be a proxy for Elixirs, the confirmation of side quests and an adventure log, our first look at Impa and King Hyrule, Zelda’s new outfits, our thoughts on the new regions in the game, and of course, Zelda’s horse riding skills!

All this, PLUS a little Borderlands Movie talk and some cool Omega Metroid announcements! Come hang out with us!

After a long, LONG layover, we are back streaming Ocarina of Time Randomizer by popular demand! Last time we we played, we had just beaten King Dodongo but got stuck with a lack of items trying to get into Jabu Jabu’s Belly, so this time, we’re scouring Hyrule looking for upgrades! We venture to Kakariko Village, Goron City, the Lost Woods, and Gerudo Valley in search of items, PLUS Andy learns that Epona can jump across the Gerudo bridge, we find the Megaton Hammer in the Gerudo Training Grounds, and discover the location of the Hookshot – although it’s just out of reach!

W had a blast, and if you want to watch the full video, click here to go to our Twich page! Ocarina of Time Randomizer WILL be back!

It’s time again for everyone’s favorite hypothetical Zelda game to return! That’s right – Zelda’s Percentages is back after 9 months! The premise is very simple: we make a hypothetical statement and assign a percentage on the likelihood of that statement coming true. This week is Echoes of Wisdom focused, as we touch on if the game can break 10 million in sales, whether Shiek makes a cameo appearance, if there will be a brand new villain, and if we’ll end up fighting Link at some point in the game! We also sprinkle in some general Zelda questions, like if the Zelda movie will end up with a critics score of 75% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes, if Princess Zelda is playable in the next Mario Kart game, if Nintendo will ever acknowledge the Zelda timeline again, and so much more!

Come play along with us, and get ready for the return of Ocarina of Time randomizer next week!

This week, we’re putting a bow (for now!) on our Echoes of Wisdom announcement coverage as we answer some of Zelda Dungeon’s Daily Debates regarding the new game, and sprinkle a few about Zelda in general for good measure too! On the docket this time: will Link and Zelda speak in game? Will Echoes of Wisdom lean more open world or have a more linear progression? Should we expect this game to be in the Downfall timeline? Is Zelda going to abandon the Triforce going forward? How could Nintendo improve its online experience? What’s the most celebratory moment in the series? All this, and so much much more!

Don’t miss next week, as we’ll be live streaming Four Swords and giving our thoughts and trying to co-exist! The stream starts at 12 pm MST July 14th over on our Twitch page! See you all then!

We’re back this week answering all of your Echoes of Wisdom questions! On the docket, we have subjects like: do we think that the combat of Echoes could get repetitive? Will there be a playable Link section in this game, or just strictly Zelda? Where in the timeline do we see this game falling? Are dungeons making their return, and if so, do they play more like traditional 2D dungeons? Speaking of, ill the dungeon maker mode from Link’s Awakening 2019 return? Is one of the most proud traditions in Zelda – the trading sequence – due for a return?

All this and so much more, PLUS a little tease for an upcoming show! Come and hang out with us!

It’s a special WEDNESDAY edition of the Zelda Cast, and for good reason: for the first time in almost 40 years, we now have a Zelda game where you play as Princess Zelda! The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was announced in Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct, a brand new Zelda game starring the titular character and a mysterious fairy named Tri who need to save Link and Hyrule! We get together and discuss our reactions to the trailer, the fact that we finally get to play as Zelda, what we think of the echo system, how fantastic the toy art style looks, our appreciation for Grezzo, and how stoked we are that it’s 99 days and counting away! From there, we flip over and talk Four Swords coming to NSO finally with online play!

We’re also talking about everything else shown off in the Nintendo Direct, from Perfect Dark to Mario & Luigi to Donkey Kong Country Returns to, of course, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (if you want to hear Andy and the Omega guys’ reaction to that trailer, check out their episode here!)

Would we rather the Zelda movie be awful, or not made at all? Would we rather leave out the Triforce or Master Sword from the next Zelda game? Would we rather the Hover Boots return or the Iron Boots? Would we rather all future dungeons are Divine Beast style or have every game take place in Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule? Would we rather Zelda VR or Metroid VR?

We have a really fun episode of the show for you this week! We asked for your Zelda-themed “would you rather” questions, and you guys delivered so much that we had to split the episode into two parts! A couple of the questions we had fun with include: would you rather get a brand new Zelda right away and wait for the Switch 2 for ten years, or vice versa? Would you rather play Tri Force Heroes solo or 100% Hyrule Warriors? Would we rather all future Zelda games are open world, or traditional 3D titles? Would we have rather had a more fleshed out Sky or more fleshed out Depths in Tears o the Kingdom? All this, plus a ton more!

We’re also giving our thoughts on the new Zelda LEGO, following up on our Definitive Ranking of the OG Legend of Zelda, and wishing everyone a happy Pride Month!

It’s time to kick it old school with another entry into our Definitive Ranking series, this time, examining the game that started it all: The Legend of Zelda! We’re going through ten critical categories that make up the ingredients to a Zelda game – world, story, pacing, art style, dungeons, bosses/enemies, items, gameplay, extras, and music – and assigning them each a score to see how the original game stacks up against all of the legendary entries that came after it! Some of the scores will be no-brainers, while others might leave you scratching your head, so come along and play with us, and of course, be sure to share what you think!

All this, PLUS a little movie talk, our favorite NES titles and more! Come hang out with us!

We’re back this week continuing the discussion around Tears of the Kingdom, except this time, we’re comparing and contrasting it to three other direct sequels in the Zelda franchise: Majora’s Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and A Link Between Worlds! We go over what makes a game a direct sequel in our eyes, how each game changed up the gameplay from its predecessors, if there was enough new content to make the sequel feel distinct, and so much more!

We’re also covering the reaction to our Tears of the Kingdom anniversary episode, so come and hang out with us!

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been one year since the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so this week, we’re reflecting back on the game and talking about how our thoughts or opinions have changed or been cemented now that the dust has settled. We discuss Tears’ legacy as a sequel, as a standalone Zelda game, and where it ranks among our favorite Zelda games. Andy and Al both have strong opinions on the game, and they don’t necessarily agree either, so get ready for a killer show!

All this, PLUS we touch on Nintendo’s announcement of the Switch 2 coming this fiscal year, what that means for the rest of 2024 and 2025, and our thoughts and fears surrounding that. Come hang with us!

Unfortunately, Andy is out sick this week. So we thought we’d take it easy and discuss some of ZD’s latest Daily Debates! And joining Al in place of Andy is The Zelda Cast’s podcast producer extraordinaire, Adrielle! Here’s what’s up for discussion: What is the best final dungeon in the Zelda series? Is Adventure of Link really that bad? What is our favorite item in our personal Zelda collections? And also, what the heck are the snapper turtles saying in Majora’s Mask?

Absolutely riveting topics up for debate. Join us for those and so much more on this week’s episode of The Zelda Cast!

Recently, our Zelda Dungeon Writing Staff released a feature that collected the various writers’ SPICIEST Zelda hot takes, and just like we did on the podcast a few months ago, we’re now reacting to each take and assigning it a SPICE meter. On the table: is the downfall timeline the only logical conclusion for the timeline to go following the events of Ocarina of Time? And speaking of that game, is nostalgia the only thing keeping it atop our Best Zelda Ever lists? Is Ballad of the Goddess and Saria’s Song overrated? Would Twilight Princess be just fine without Princess Zelda? Are Mipha and Revali compelling characters? All this and so much more are discussed!

Are these takes Eldin Hot, Hebra Cold, or somewhere in between? Listen to find out, and let us know what your own hot takes are!

Welcome to a nice and cozy edition of the show today, as have a chill time answering some of the amazing Daily Debates our Writing Team ha created! On the docket today: is 5-6 years between 3D Zelda games the new norm now, and if so, should it be? What’s one of the more underrated themes in the series? What’s our favorite piece of Zelda content in Super Smash Bros.? Why wasn’t underwater exploration included in Tears of the Kingdom? Could the age of online play give Four Swords Adventures a second life one day? What era would be a good setting for another Hyrule Warriors game? And maybe most importantly – on a holiday weekend, what goes harder, mashed potatoes or scalloped potatoes?

All this, PLUS we put a bow on Musical March Madness, and we wish a happy Trans Day of Visibility, and a happy Easter to all who celebrate!

Welcome to another episode of the show, where this week, we have the honor of closing out Zelda Dungeon’s Four Swords Week celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the single most unheralded Zelda game of them all: Four Swords Adventures! Andy and Al recount their memories of the game from the time it was first announced, to the first time they played together at the Zelda Dungeon Marathon, and reflect on the things that held it back from being a huge sales success. We also talk about our favourite levels from the game, how Adventures helped popularize the 2D/3D hybrid graphical style popular now, and how we would change the game so it could be remade as an online title!

All this, PLUS we talk some Musical March Madness and the cruelty of snow in March. Come celebrate with us!

Welcome to the Zelda Cast, where this week, we’re not really talking about Zelda! Well, that’s not entirely true, but this week’s show is all about the sequel to one of the best new franchises we’ve played in recent years: Horizon: Forbidden West! Listen as we explore our thoughts on what this sequel did differently than Tears of the Kingdom, being an open world sequel itself, and what areas Forbidden West did better, and what areas Zelda came out on top. Plus, we talk about the new machines, the character acting, the music, performance and accessibility, and much more, and then end it off with a SPOILER heavy dive into the story, the characters, and setting up for what comes next!

Forbidden West and Tears of the Kingdom are two sides of the same coin, so consider grabbing it if you haven’t already! PLUS – come listen to Andy’s new podcast, The Spiteri’s Review! Join the Discord and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts!

We’re back this week examining the Zelda Dungeon Writing Team’s Daily Debates, and we’ve got some good ones this week, chief among them: is Tears of the Kingdom actually not getting any DLC? Why not? Should it have been announced already if so? We give our thoughts and theories, plus tackle other questions like: was Nintendo right to claim the dungeons in Tears were “traditional”? When do we think the next openworld Zelda game will be out (spoiler: Andy thinks it’s closer than you think!)? What’s up with the Breath of the Wild version of Hyrule and its inconsistencies with the lore of the series? Was there enough of a balance between old characters and new?

All this, PLUS a little GOTY discussion featuring Baulder’s Gate III, and Switch 2 thoughts and theories. Come hang out!

Buckle in, because it’s finally time! After months and months, we’re finally giving our full, SPOILER FILLED, thoughts on the story of Tears of the Kingdom! Did we like the Zonai being gods? How could Ganondorf and Mineru have been handled better? Was “Fake Zelda” the biggest missed opportunity of the game? After an amazing final battle, did the ending feel too cheap? Would a Days of Future Past gimmick have worked well here? And does Nintendo’s insistence of players being able to do anything, any time, anywhere hurt the story they were trying to tell?

All this, PLUS we talk about the Switch 2, September’s hopeful Nintendo Direct, and DLC! Don’t miss out on our greatest episode on Tears of the Kingdom yet, and make sure to let us know what you think!

We’re back into the full swing of things this week, and choosing violence in this episode as take Tears of the Kingdom to task for arguably one of its lazier decisions: bringing Korok Seeds back. WOW! THAT’S what we’ve been waiting for! In case you’ve been living under a rock, Nintendo released the third and final trailer for Tears of the Kingdom and it was by far the most exciting trailer shown so far! This week, the gang break down the trailer frame by frame, discussing where (or when) Zelda could have gotten off to, who the mysterious woman with light in her hands could be, the re-imagining of Gleeok and other bosses, if the Zonai in the trailer is the same one from the mural, how sky islands and caves might be connected, some of the new gameplay shots, and of course, THE RETURN OF THE KING OF EVIL, Mr. Hydrated Ganondorf himself!

THIS was the trailer that finally did it, and we can barely contain our excitement! Come hang out with us as we break this trailer down!

A few members of the ZD staff were able to visit the park this past week, so we wanted to bring a couple of them onto the show and hear their thoughts on the experience while it was still fresh in their minds.

We’ve come down (a bit) from the highs of last weeks Nintendo Direct, and now that our brains are functioning again, we’re ready to analyze the heck out of the newest Tears of the Kingdom trailer! Come break it down with us as we discuss voice acting, Ganondorf, Redeads, Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule, Collectors Editions, amiibo, the green energy stuff, our theories on what’s going on with Zelda, who “HIM” could refer to, what could replace Shrines, John Deere tractors, and more! Plus, the million dollar question – is this it? Or is Nintendo still holding back something monumental?

All this, PLUS some Metroid Prime Remastered talk, NSO discussion, and a quick bit on The Last of Us! Come hang!

Wow. Wowowow. THAT, my friends, was a Nintendo Direct for the ages. Despite Nintendo arguably holding back yet again on Tears of the Kingdom, there was no doubt that the trailer we saw for the game was by far the meatiest one yet. Add in the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance NSO news, with The Minish Cap and Link’s Awakening DX being playable RIGHT NOW with the Oracles not far behind it, and there was more Zelda news in this 40 minutes than there has been in seemingly years! Add in Metroid Prime Remastered, Pikmin 4, and more games, and this might have been the greatest Nintendo Direct ever!

If you missed Andy and Al’s reactions and thoughts live, come relive them now, and make sure to hang with us this weekend as we break down all the trailers frame by frame!

Open world games have come a long way in the last few years, and with Tears of the Kingdom approaching, the Cast figured it was a good time to play some contemporary titles to see what the upcoming Zelda game might learn from those titles. Joined by Rod Lloyd for this episode, the gang discuss Elden Ring and Horizon Zero Dawn and lay out what they like about those games, what they dislike, and what they would like to see – or NOT see – applied from those games to Tears of the Kingdom!

Come hang out and weigh in on some of the hot takes thrown out about Soulsborne games, whether Horizon’s story is one of the best ever, and if Andy should keep playing Elden Ring or not!

Happy New Year! We’re ringing in 2023 by answering a whole slew of Zelda Daily Debates that our incredible writing team has put together! Included in the gambit are: how much influence will Skyward Sword have on Tears of the Kingdom? Why has Nintendo been so secretive with the promotion thus far? What are our biggest fears about the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild? Could another delay be on the table? Would Nintendo ever release a buggy Zelda game a la Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? What Zelda-like games held us over in 2022? And the million dollar question – how will Tears of the Kingdom distinguish itself from Breath of the Wild?

Come and get your year started the right way by hanging out with the Zelda Cast, and don’t forget to weigh in with your own takes on our Daily Debates!

Despite nabbing the Most Anticipated Game award, Tears of the Kingdom was a no-show at this years Game Awards, continuing the bizarre, frustrating, and perplexing pre-release cycle the sequel to Breath of the Wild has been on since its reveal, capping off what may go down as the worst year for The Legend of Zelda in the modern era. If you think that’s dramatic, come listen to Andy and Al explain why they hold that opinion, and debate on whether Nintendo’s arrogance is showing. On the plus side, the gang review the actual Game Awards show, which all things considered, was pretty good. We talk Earthblade, Hades, Death Stranding 2, the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Crime Boss, and so much more!

This episode might not be for the faint of heart, but it’s still a fun time! PLUS, come and ask us a question for next weeks show and you could hear it answered!

Welcome back for another week of the freshest Zelda podcast around! Good day, good day, and welcome to yet another show where we still don’t know anything about Breath of the Wild 2 or when the next Nintendo Direct might be. It’s not all bad news though, as this week, we participated in Linktober’s Zelda Creator Con and had a really fun show, debuting a new segment called Zelda’s Percentages. The Champions’ Cast has finally reached a highly anticipated milestone. 200 episodes! We thought we’d have a little fun celebrating the episode by resurrecting the Champions’ Cast Twitch channel and playing a bit of trivia. However, there is more to celebrate than our 200th episode. Our sister podcast, the Omega Metroid Podcast, has reached their 100th episode! What better way to commemorate both events than to have the ultimate crossover? So this won’t be just a Zelda trivia stream, but a Metroid one as well. And the teams playing against each other? You guessed it! Omega vs. Champions, with Andy presiding as the commissioner.

Join in on the fun tomorrow, February 13th at 12 PST/3 EST over on our Twitch channel. Play along, and see if you can answer all of Andy’s supposedly difficult trivia questions. We hope to see you there, and can’t wait to celebrate these huge milestones together with the hope of even more to come!

We compare Link and Ashitaka, Zelda and San, Lady Eboshi and the citizens of Irontown to the fabled Sheikah clan, analyze the similar themes of nature versus technology, and even look to the plot of Princess Mononoke to deduce where we might be headed in Breath of the Wild 2.
