DJ MKY: Recent Episodes

DJ MKY

Proving that they do still make dem beats like they used too, Sydney-born tastemaker DJ MKY has well and truly earnt his place as one of the most esteemed and exciting acts to break out of Australia. Mickey is the 30 year old Sydney based DJ, Producer & Remixer causing quite a stir within the Australian music scene seeing himself travel around the country, playing sets across Australia’s major cities at events such as Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras in the Main Room and LA Pride 2017, just to name a few. DJ MKY's music style is drawn from across a spectrum of genres, fused together to create one intoxicating fat sound, with meaty vocals from pop, urban and soul that has element of house that sometimes gets a little dirty. This fresh musical approach melds dance floor dynamics and broods atmospheres with influences derived from his 90s upbringing of Pop music and an era of diva voices that stand the test of time. In just a 3 year history of DJing, Producing & Remixing this rising star shows no sign of slowing down and has become one of the must see acts. DJ MKY has already several times tapped into the U.S Billboard Club & Dance Charts, achieving several top places in the Billboard Top 100 Charts. Such remixes as Laverne Cox’s - Beats For the Gods, Brian Justin Crum - Show Me Love & Paris Hilton - I Need You, are on his list of official remixes. With a jam-packed schedule of gigs all around the country and internationally and a plethora of residencies, collaborations and huge tracks already under his belt – the future is looking incredibly bright for this tale.

From humble beginnings as an actor and dancer to the decks of some of Australia’s most renowned clubs and events, DJ MKY has officially landed, smack-bang, centre stage… and it’s only the beginning. Given his debut at long-running Sydney mega party Daywash and being a finalist in the Mardi Gras Spin-Off Competition, he was soon to be snapped up by some of Australia’s hottest clubs including The Shift, ARQ Sydney, Columbian and Nevermind not only for his “hands-in-the-air” musical style, but for the energy that explodes from him when he gets behind the decks and takes control of the dancefloor. Finding his true calling as a naturally talented DJ with a music, dance and theatre background, he combines decades of performing for audiences, with his outstanding party-boy and gogo dancing experience, to achieve a sound that takes the dancefloor on a journey through what they think they want, what they truly want and what they didn’t even know existed. A fat sound, with meaty vocals combining pop, urban and soul with a house sound that sometimes gets just a little dirty. Not a stranger to the sweaty, heaving dancefloors of the southern hermisphere, Mickey skillfully crafts each performance tailored to each crowd individually. From classic T-dance house music and deep house to high energy circuit beats native to big rooms and arena’s in Barcelona, Mykonos and Ibiza, DJ Mickey’s versatility is often underestimated. Clubs, brands and event promoters can’t get enough of him having already played official parties for Grindr, Daywash (SYD), Zoo Dayclub (SYD) and Ignite Party (WOL), The Court (PER), Higher (SYD) and headlining FNQ Magazine’s Admit Love Party (CNS) – as well as gracing the cover of the magazine in June. 2016 is set to be even bigger with Mickey gracing the arena decks for BLOW – Sydney Mardi Gras Official underwear party and and toured North America for Pride season in 2016 with 2017 already going off Mickey plays for Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2017 Main Event.

So many requests from so many of my followers from my live sets in Sydney, Australia. I've tried to put as many as I could into this Mickey Mix to keep you going through the Southern Winter. A little bit of classic t-dance house, a few tribal inspired circuit tracks (because who doesn't love drums ;) and so many little surprises!

I hope this Mickey Mix takes you on a journey and keeps you reliving those thumping club & party memories.

Lots of Love, Mickey x
P.S. See you for Pride, North America! ;)

HOMOLOGY həˈmɒlədʒi (n)
The similarity of a structure or function of parts of different origins based on their descent from a common evolutionary ancestor.

We all share a common ancestry & genetics. We are all human. We are all equal.

I'm so honoured to be playing at this year's Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Party and to get everyone warmed up ive released this podcast for EVERYONE to enjoy.

This years MG Festival theme is "Creating Equality" and although all humans are equal no matter what sexuality, gender, nationality, race or religion, we all have different tastes which makes us unique.

HOMOLOGY is a collection of some of my favourite new house tracks and some of my favourite classic house tracks remixed with influences from pop & western culture, LGBT culture, middle eastern and tribal cultures and many more. Whether you want to lip sync to Ariana, Britney and Whitney, Vogue and get C*UNT, or "cut sick" to some tribal bangers, HOMOLOGY is a 1 hour journey for everyone who loves life and to celebrate the diversity, fun and freedom that the Sydney Mardi Gras Festival will bring in 2017.

See you at the party!
