From this point on in the book of Acts, things begin shifting in surprising ways. The Church is beginning to see the Holy Spirit behaving in ways they didn’t expect. Because you can’t keep God in a box. Just like Jesus constantly surprised the disciples during His time of ministry on Earth, the Holy Spirit begins leading the Church in surprising ways they must respond to.In Acts 8, we see the apostles surprised that people in Samaria have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. And then Philip is led by the Spirit to an Ethiopian Eunuch who wants to be baptized as well. Philip certainly never could have expected all of these outsiders - Samaritans, Ethiopians - being brought into the Kingdom. But interactive life with God continues to expand beyond any of their preconceived categories or notions about what God is up to
On this episode we look at the story of a brave woman who followed God even when it was difficult. Jesus People is a podcast to families gain a bigger imagination for interactive life with Jesus in His Kingdom.
Most communities and societies function around an unwritten rule: whoever holds the most money, holds the most power. The more money you have, the more influence you have. The more money you have, the more security you have for the future. The more money you have, the more respect and admiration you have. What’s interesting about the first community that was formed by the Holy Spirit - the Early Church - was that it seemed to function around the inverse of that rule. In the Early Church, people saw it as powerful to give their possessions and money away for the sake of others. And it seems that those who did so held a certain level of honor in the Early Church, because in Acts 5 we see a couple - Ananias and Sapphira - who want to steal a little bit of this honor. They sell a plot of land, give some of the money to the Church, but want the credit and honor as if they’d given the whole thing. So they lie, and because of this, they die. This is not a case of God striking someone dead, because they didn’t give enough money. If so, we all better learn what that dollar amount is so we hit our quota each year. It was their deception that was the problem. It was their pride. Their desire to keep some of the money, while pretending as if they’d given it all, was a scheme to deceive the entire community. For what reason, we’re not sure. Maybe they thought they would gain some honor and admiration from others. Maybe they thought it would give them a little more influence or authority in the community. Maybe they thought God would bless them more. But what Peter makes clear to them is that the issue isn’t the money they deprived from the community (Acts 5:4), but that they were “conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord” (Acts 5:9). Ananias and Sapphira were not giving due to listening to the Holy Spirit - or from their interactive life with God - but in order to trick the Spirit. We see a picture of generosity led by the Spirit at the end of Acts 4. That from time to time people were led to sell their possessions and entrust it to the Apostles to distribute to those who had need. And the result of this was that there were no needy persons among them. And Luke makes clear this is not just the result of human financial wisdom or a good economic strategy, it’s the result of God’s grace at work in their community (Acts 4:33-34). A community centered on interactive life with God is a new kind of society. It’s not a club or organization or government, it’s a family. And families share with one another. This means if we are to be this kind of community, we must become a community of regular generosity.

When Jesus was doing ministry on Earth, He would regularly send out His disciples to perform healings and good works “in His name”. And it was clear, the source of this power did not come from the disciples. The source of the power was Jesus. But after His ascension, the question becomes - can the disciples continue to bring healing in the name of Jesus if He’s no longer on the planet? But when Peter and John are able to heal in the name of Jesus in Acts 3, they make clear (Acts 3:12) they were not the source of this power. It was Jesus who healed the man, and this was proof that Jesus was alive and active. Because dead men don’t have power to heal. But Jesus was in fact alive, and currently living a life on Earth. He was doing it through these men. Here’s the application for us: where might Jesus be sending His Church to provide healing in His name for people in our world? With the current mental health crisis in our world, we at Community Christian are convinced - Jesus would have us step into those problems, in the name - the likeness of Jesus. Because we believe Jesus is alive and active in our world, and He too has something to say about the problems people face in our world.
This week we look at a story about speaking truth to power. Jesus People is a podcast to families gain a bigger imagination for interactive life with Jesus in His Kingdom.
Church was not created by the writing of the Bible or by a group of people who just wanted to get Jesus’ philosophy and teachings out to the world. It wasn’t even created in the moment of the resurrection. After His resurrection, Jesus told His followers not to rush out and start preaching the gospel (or even making disciples). He told them to wait. Wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. The Church was founded when the Holy Spirit descended, and a new kind of interactive life with God was available. A life with God that did not rely on Jesus’ physical presence on Earth, rather it was Jesus living within believers. And what’s the first thing the Holy Spirit does? Fulfills the words of Jesus’ prayer in John 17 - He unites believers from around the world in love for Him.The Church explodes, and immediately we get a picture of the kind of unity and community that the Holy Spirit creates.

When Jesus was on Earth, He was the physical embodiment of the Kingdom of God. He was walking, talking, breathing interactive life with God. A person’s physical proximity to Jesus’ body was their physical proximity to the Kingdom of God. But Jesus did not intend for the Kingdom to be limited to His physical presence on Earth. Jesus came to make interactive life with God available to people from every nation. His goal was to fill all of Creation with His presence. In order for this to happen, Jesus needed to return to His Father. For when He did the Holy Spirit could descend upon His followers, and fill them with His presence. And as His followers spread to the ends of the Earth, the Kingdom would go with them.

After the resurrection, the question on the disciples’ minds is - “what does interactive life with God look like now?” In His Great Commission, Jesus answers this question. If life in the Kingdom looks like joining our life to what Jesus is doing in the world right now, what is Jesus up to? Making disciples. This is the mission, and this is where He’s sending His people. This is what a full and satisfying life looks like.

In a world that convinces us that we must make the most of our own stories, what do we do when our own failure rips away the ending we always wanted? Our world doesn’t have an answer for guilt or personal moral failures. There is no path to redemption. We live in a world of ruthlessly canceling others for their sins and failures, which also means we live with a lot of self-condemnation for our own failures. It’s an endless cycle of sin, guilt, shame, and ostracization. What can save us from this? Interactive life with Jesus. Peter’s greatest moral failure came in the time of Jesus’ greatest need, and Peter was convinced that life with God was over. Not only because of Jesus’ death, but because of his failure to be faithful to Jesus. Even after seeing Jesus’ resurrected, Peter returns to his old life of fishing. It’s not until an interaction with Jesus on a beach did Peter understands that there is no failure or sin too great that can kick you out of interactive life with God. There is always a road back.

What do we do when the story we scripted for our lives falls apart? What do we do when it becomes clear things won’t work out the way we dreamed them up? The common refrain in our world is to “have faith”. But the question is: in what? For Christians, the answer seems obvious - have faith in God. But what do you do when your life situation is so difficult or the event you went through was so catastrophic that it’s caused you to doubt God. This is where Thomas, the disciple of Jesus, was after Jesus’ death. The death of Jesus was the most heartbreaking, disastrous ending to the story of the last three years for Thomas. He no longer could have faith in Jesus if Jesus was dead. But soon afterwards, Thomas’ friends begin telling him that Jesus had risen from the dead, and that life with God was possible again. But Thomas couldn’t believe. He doubted. It took a personal encounter with Jesus to convince Him. What we can learn from this is that our doubts are not a barrier for our relationship with God. In fact, they can become the place where Jesus will show up in our lives. If we choose to interact with Him in the midst of our pain, our doubts, and our questions.

We all want to hear from God. We all want to know the purpose of our lives, and where our stories are going. Especially in those moments when our stories seem to be falling apart. In those moments, it feels like God is entirely silent. After His death, the disciples were convinced their interactive life with God was over. They had heard the voice of God out of the mouth of Jesus, but now He was dead and buried. But on the road to Emmaus, Jesus encountered two disciples, and through His interaction revealed a new way in which they could experience the guidance and voice of God in their lives even though He would soon not be physically present with them. Through explaining how to find Him in the Scriptures, and through the experience of their “hearts burning within us”, a new way to have interactive life with God became clear - life in the Spirit.

The climax of God’s story is all summed up in Easter weekend - the death and resurrection of Jesus. The disciples had one story they thought their life was going to tell, but Jesus changed all of that when He died. And in His resurrection, the shape of the story started to become clear. In His interaction with Mary Magdalene, this story that has cosmic implications for every person’s story, gets as small as the relationship between two people. Mary’s love for Jesus is so clear that it reminds us the story God is telling is primarily one about God loving us and inviting us to love Him too. For Him to be the greatest object of our affection. For all of our desire to make a difference and to leave a legacy, and for our story to have a big and lasting impact, the greatest story our lives could tell are the words, “Jesus loves me, and I love Him.”

None of us think that we are greedy or too materialistic, but most of us think money is a necessary tool to provide the story we want our lives to tell. This is why we think of money as a blessing, and those who are rich in this life as “blessed” or living the “good life”. But when Jesus interacted with those who are rich, He consistently challenged them to stop storing up treasures on earth, but instead to sell their possessions and use them to store up treasures in heaven. Because the story Jesus is telling is one where God generously provides all we need, so we don’t need “bigger barns”. We get to interact with God in being generous as He has been generous to us. When we interact with His generosity, we might become God’s way of providing for others needs.

Faith is a very misunderstood concept in our world. For many, faith is just a power that helps you get what you want out of God. It’s a tool to insure you can write the story of your life the way you want it too. But that’s not the idea of faith we see in the stories of Jesus’ life. Faith is the way that we align ourselves with the story God is telling. Faith is the crucial ingredient to interactive life with God. In the story of the Centurion we see that Faith is taking Jesus at His word. Like a soldier follows the command of their superior officer, those who live with Jesus as King follow where He leads no matter the command. And when we do this, when we live by faith, we find ourselves caught up in a story bigger than ourselves. We find that impossible things can happen, and our lives can be transformed.

For the people of Israel during Jesus’ lifetime, their national story was one where they were the “chosen people of God”, and no one else was. But Jesus came to change the story. The story God had been telling since the beginning was God rescuing all of humanity, through interacting with specific people and a specific nation. But the goal was always “all people”. Jesus’ interaction with the Canaanite woman reveals His heart to bring the gospel to all people from all nations and ethnicities. He does this by confronting the deeply imbedded biases and prejudices of His day. When we live an interactive life with God, Jesus too will uncover our own biases and prejudices to draw us to love all people, and to seek out those who are different than us to love them like Jesus.

For many of us, the story we want our lives to tell heavily involves building a family that we can be proud of, but Jesus introduces a different way to view family. Though modern wisdom puts a lot of emphasis on finding success, happiness, and fulfillment in “finding your own self-worth”, interactive life with God is about finding our worth in Christ. What this means is that I hold two truths at the same time: my worth (in Christ) and my deep unworthiness (because of sin). Like the woman caught in adultery, when we are stripped bare of all of our false masks, and open and honest about our sin, we can actually find more love and acceptance in Christ than we ever expected. We can’t get interactive life with God right if we don’t have the right picture of God. At the beginning of each year, we just look at the life of Jesus. We usually spend about 4-5 months just reading through the stories of Jesus’ life, because we are Jesus people. And we have found that when we look deeply at the life of Jesus, and we get the stories of how He interacted with human beings while He was on earth deep within us, then we not only get a better picture of who God is, but how He wants to be with us, to cooperate with us in this life. It’s the most wonderful time of the year… but only in hindsight. When you’re in the midst of trying to pull off the holiday season, it feels hectic and stressful, and there are quite a few tears. Every event went according to plan - it was fun, and memorable, and meaningful - and somehow you remembered to get pictures of everything. Yet somehow, all of us go into the holidays with these high expectations, and nearly every year the pursuit of these expectations lead us to stress and busyness and conflict. And no matter how much planning you put into it, nothing really goes according to plan. It’s always a little messy.Or maybe this holiday season isn’t going to be perfect, because you’re going through a difficult season. Your first Christmas after losing a loved one, or your first Christmas divorced, or your first Christmas without your kids coming home. Maybe this whole year has been difficult, and you’re just ready to get through this season to start a new year. Regardless of what might keep your holiday from being Hallmark shiny or Publix, neat and tidy, it’s very possible that your experience of this holiday season will be “messy”. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Because as we’re going to see as we look at the Christmas story in the Bible, the first Christmas was incredibly messy. And that’s our hope - Jesus, the Son of God, meeting us in the mess of our lives.Often the most meaningful times of our lives have been the messy, difficult ones. And even if your mess is so painful, you don’t want to put a positive spin on it, you don’t know what could happen if you would allow God to meet you in the midst of your Messy Christmas. Because as long as we’re pretending and trying to dress up our “mess”, we won’t see all God is trying to do in our lives. But when we stop trying to tidy up our lives, and instead choose to embrace the mess of our reality, we actually meet the God who is with us in the midst of the mess.

Most of us don’t think too much about belief or religion in our world because our lives are too busy for it. We are not concerned with what’s true or what’s right; we’re concerned with what “works.” And so we don’t think much about what’s true or what we believe; we mostly think about whether what’s happening in our lives works for us. And that works fine, until life stops working. This is why what we believe matters. Because truth runs deeper than utility. What’s true matters more than what works. And so you need a deeper truth to be rooted in that can help you keep going even when life stops working. We believe in one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
One of the problems with addressing our mental health is that we're not often sure what we mean when we talk about becoming "healthy". How do I know when I'm there? Jesus is the center of all things. Meaning He is the purpose of life itself. a. And here’s why that matters. Most of us live as if we are the center of our lives. And I don’t just mean that in the self-focused narcissistic kind of way we often say it. I mean, that we live as if we are the ultimate authority of our lives. But even though I believe that is true, how does it impact my life day to day?
When parents are asked what is something they are concerned about for their children, one of the top 3 answers is "their mental health". On this week's episode, the Not Gret Parents are starting a mini-series talking about how we can handle our mental health, as parents, in a God-honoring way, and teach our children to do the same. We are not concerned with what’s true or what’s right; we’re concerned with what “works.” And so we don’t think much about what’s true or what we believe; we mostly think about whether what’s happening in our lives works for us. And much of modern life works really well, and so people start to think of faith and belief as something that’s pretty irrelevant. Why do I really need Church or faith when my life is working pretty well? And that works fine, until life stops working. This is why what we believe matters. Because truth runs deeper than utility. What’s true matters more than what works. And so you need a deeper truth to be rooted in that can help you keep going even when life stops working. And this is why we’re doing a series where we’re looking at what followers of Jesus throughout history have believed to be true about God, the Church, faith, and the life God created. Join us for "Rooted."

Scripture treats Wealth and Riches as a blessing, but it always comes with a warning. "The love of money is the roots of all kinds of evil", and so wealth should always be handled as a blessing used to bless others. On this week's episode we discuss how to help our children avoid the trap of loving wealth by talking about the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians (available on HBO Max). On the Family Movie Night Podcast we want to help your family have better conversations around the content you consume. We encourage every family at Community Christian Church to have a monthly movie night, to help you and your children build memories and start conversations that matter. We want to not only recommend some movies you could watch on your monthly movie night, but give you some ideas of meaningful conversations you could have with your children during or after the movie. One of the most universal things people stress over and argue about is money. Whether you work for it at a job or you come into it some other way, everybody is given money throughout their entire lives. But almost nobody is taught what to do with it.

The reason a lot of bad stuff comes out of you when you argue with your spouse or significant other is because that’s what’s in you. It’s the stuff you brought with you into the marriage or the relationship. If you get better at monitoring the condition of your own heart instead of monitoring the behavior of your partner, you'd be a lot better off!

What do you do with the parts of your lives that are broken into pieces and a trip to the doctor won't fix it? We know where to go when we're broken physically. Where do you go when you're broken spiritually? How do you get those pieces back to peace?
Is throwing away the 2020 calendar and replacing it with a 2021 going to really fix all the problems that have led us to feeling not peaceful? Is there any hope for us to have real and lasting peace? A peace that is not determined by the chaos of our world or our homes or our own lives?
Everyone, at some point in their life needs mercy or a second chance. And hidden within the Christmas story is a story of a second chance that changed the world.

When someone pokes at an unhealed wound in our heart, it’s easy to respond with anger, even rage. God wants to heal our wounded hearts. He wants to return us to life, joy, and wholeness. What can we do to step into this freedom?
Life moves at such a frantic pace for many of us, so it’s often difficult to make the time to figure out why we blow up at our family for little things, break down when a friend makes an offhand comment, or shut down when work gets really stressful. When these emotional reactions are part of our day-to-day, we tend to think that’s just the way we are. But what if there’s another, healthier way to react?
The root of a trigger is based on a wound or a lie, even a partial lie. God can heal you and replace the wound or lie with wholeness and truth. The way to undo triggers starts with humbly admitting that you have one and that you can’t solve it on your own.

Have you ever noticed how our society is easily angered or triggered? Just consider road rage, reactions erupting around political issues, emotional battles in marriages, or fear evolving out of the latest news report. When a present circumstance should not produce such an intense emotional response, it’s a symptom that you’re being triggered. The first step is to identify the symptoms of when and why we get triggered.

Jesus is greater than everything. In this message our three teaching pastors help us see how Jesus set an example for us to find a need and meet in his name. And as we do that we will be blessed in doing it.
The guys share their thoughts on the COVID-19 coronavirus situation and how it's impacting our church.
Jesus introduced the most powerful, transformational, and inspirational leadership principle on the planet. Every leader you respect practices it. The leaders you don’t respect, don’t practice it. You can lead without it, but you won’t be a leader worth following unless you embrace it.
We're one person short this week, but still have a lot to say. Listener questions include: Why does Jesus talk about Himself in the 3rd person? And can you make sense of the Trinity? Plus a breakdown of some of Sunday's topics and deep fried Top 5 from Nathan.

A religious leader poses questions to Jesus that many of us still have today: Who gets "in" with God? And how does it happen? Jesus' answer is surprising but proves once again to be greater than anything that came before.
Ed, Jason, and Nathan answer listener questions about two confusing miracles of Jesus and how to love difficult people. Sunday's message about "those people" leads to lots of interesting detours. And Jason reveals his top 5 worst hymn lyrics.

There’s something about being human that leads us to separate ourselves into groups. And we all follow the same principle: We surround ourselves with people who are like us. People who look like us, think like us, grew up like us, vote like us. But is this the way God intended us to live?
This week, the guys dive into how Jesus and His kingdom is greater than religion. A listener asks a really great question about a confusing statement from Jesus. And Ed lists his Top 5 podcasts.

Something in us is tempted to believe God loves His Law more than his people. We’re tempted to prioritize rules over people. But Jesus came to offer us a life greater than keeping religious rules.

This week we answer 2 listener questions about free will and heaven. A discussion about Sunday's message. And let's just say Nathan's Top 5 gets really weird.
If you aren’t religious or you gave up religion, you probably had good reason to walk away or stay away. You’re a reasonable person, and there are plenty of good reasons to reject religion. But reconsider Jesus. He wasn’t an extension of the old religion. He came to introduce something brand new.

When you read the Gospels, two things are abundantly clear. Being a sinner doesn’t disqualify you from following Jesus. And being an unbeliever doesn’t disqualify you from following Jesus. So, what does that mean for you?
This week, the guys tackle these two questions: 1. If I was baptized as an infant, should I also be baptized as an adult? 2. Why does Jesus always speak in parables? We also dive deeper into Sunday's message. Plus, Ed reveals his Top 5 commercials from Super Bowl Sunday! Click here to send us a question anonymously: https://forms.gle/9zaPtSSQM8PRMtq4A
“Might makes right” is the default setting for the world. Those with wealth and power write the rules, and they usually write them to favor themselves. That was true in Jesus’ time as well. But he came to turn everything upside down.
This week we answer some of your questions: 1. Do Ed, Jason, & Nathan use daily devotionals? 2. What's a first step in breaking a bad habit? 3. Do we prioritize loving/not judging vs confronting others? Plus, we talk about the new series "Jesus Is Greater" and Nathan brings a musical top 5. Conflict is an inevitable part of most any relationship. Unhealthy conflict or just avoiding it altogether can kill a relationship in a hurry. Having created each of us for human connection, does God also offer us a realistic way to save our relationships when we’ve wounded each other?
Relationships can involve a lot of risk. And for some of us, we’re not quite sure the risk is worth the reward. Couple our fear of vulnerability with society’s constant “keep it casual” messaging, and we end up with lots of people avoiding commitment. But could lack of commitment be even more risky than the alternative? What do God and relationship experts say about making our relational risks worthwhile?
Dwelling on the negative and being overly critical of others can kill a relationship in a hurry. But how do we get past the negative habits that seem to come so easily to us?
The belief that the purpose of relationships is self-satisfaction, that it’s about getting your way, can lead to disaster. But how can we avoid the common misstep of inflexibility in our relationships?
Why is it so tough to have happy relationships and to make those relationships last? It often seems as if many of us are better at killing relationships than keeping them. In this message, we tackle the relationship killer of bad communication.
There's a major obstacle that keeps us from thinking better thoughts which lead to better decisions. It's the tendency we all have to deceive ourselves about the reasons we do what we do. And it keeps us from knowing where we are and allowing God to take us where we need to be. But how do I know when I'm lying to myself and is there a cure for it?
Most of us wind up viewing our life as a series of phases we need to get through in order for things to get better. But what if that's not true. What if God is doing something in all of these phases? And what if we're missing it?
Our core beliefs about money ultimately inform all of our financial decisions which lead to financial outcomes, both good and bad. How can adopting the better thought that "Everything belongs to God" change our decisions and the outcomes?
No one ever loved like Jesus. And if we are ever going to become like Jesus, we have to think like He did. This week, we look at the better thought that led Jesus to live and love the way that He did.
When we make decisions, most of us think we can just follow our hearts or go with our gut. And many times, it leads us to the same bad outcomes. But what if we lived with a better thought? What if we stopped trusting our heart and started trusting God with our heart?
The decisions we make determine the outcomes of our life. But at some point everyone becomes dissatisfied with some of those outcomes. And usually we just make a different decision...resulting in the same outcome. But to make better decisions, we have to start thinking better thoughts.
One of the key aspects of learning to manage and even overcome our anxiety requires us to bring others into our fight. God calls us to do life deeply and authentically with other Christ followers, so we can experience the hope found only in community. What does it look like to invite others into our pain and fears so that we never have to battle alone?
Overcoming anxiety may feel impossible at times. The struggles we experience may seem like mountains too tall to climb. But what if we could be so practiced in habits of mind that anxiety and fears have no chance to take hold?
We have become an increasingly anxious people and developed many habits that can keep us mired in anxiety. But God gives us the groundwork to develop good habits that will help to alleviate those anxieties and bring us peace.
Anxiety is at epidemic levels in our society, and for many of us, it is a daily struggle. Coming in various forms, from frivolous worries to debilitating anguish, our experiences may seem unavoidable. But what could be behind all this anxiety, and where can we find hope for true freedom?
From the beginning of Community Christian, we wanted to be a church where there was room for everyone. Here's how we're doing that.
As a church, we want the people in our community to know that God is FOR them, not against them. But in order for that to happen, WE must be for them as well. And to do that, we must live as people who have been given a purpose.
When pain and suffering enter our lives, the last thing we want to do is wait. But in the finale to his letter, James shows us why patience is the best solution.
Most of us want to be "richer." But research tells us we are richer than we think. And with that wealth comes some problems for people who follow Jesus.
What causes the fights, conflicts, and disagreements between you and the people in your world? James has the answer and a solution. But it's not an easy one.
In this message, we learn from James, the brother of Jesus, how a wise person handles conflict and what that wisdom looks like.
Words can be one of the most destructive forces in life. Or one of the most healing and helpful. It all depends on how well we tame our tongue. But how do we do it?
Many people claim to have faith. But what if the faith we claim makes no apparent difference in the way we live? Can that kind of faith save us?
Our differences seem to be dividing us now more than ever. But our love for people is supposed to transcend those differences, just the way God’s love did for us. It’s at the heart of what Jesus said when He commanded His followers to love others precisely the way God has loved you.
Everybody wants to live a blessed life. But it takes more than wanting it. And it takes more than just hearing about it.
Most of us spend our time and energy trying to prevent and avoid trials and suffering in life. But no one can completely control every circumstance. So, is there a better way to respond? Yes. And it all starts in your mind.
In this series, we explore the biblical book of James. A document written by the brother of Jesus who started out as a skeptic but eventually came to believe his brother was his Lord after seeing Him raised from the dead. James' teaching is tough, effective, and practical...a lot like going to gym class!
Happy families decide they owe each other everything but are owed nothing in return. But that requires effort. Everybody makes a choice every day. That choice feels more like a reaction, so most people don’t think they have a choice at all. But they do. Happy families make the happy choice.
As long as you think your spouse owes you, your marriage will be all about keeping score. That destroys intimacy. It destroys love. But what are we supposed to do about our hopes, dreams, and desires?
We all enter into relationships with hopes, dreams, and desires. They create expectations. But when you put those expectations onto someone, it turns into a debt/debtor relationship. We believe that we're owed something. So, how do you keep your hopes, dreams, and desires from becoming expectations?
Everyone brings hopes, dreams, and desires into their families and relationships. But what feel like dreams to us sound like burdens and expectations to the other person. What's the solution?
Christianity is not based on a set of teachings or beliefs, but on one single event that took place in human history - the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
When Jesus preached His most famous sermon - The Sermon on the Mount - there were two groups listening. The disciples and the crowd. You'll hear His words differently depending on which group you're in. So the question is: Which one are you?
Every person builds a life. Every life goes through storms. What makes the difference between a life that crashes and a life that endures? Jesus gives the answer.
Many people today view Christianity as narrow minded, exclusive, and bigoted. Do Jesus' words about the narrow and broad roads lead His followers to that conclusion? Or was He inviting them to something better?
Jesus gives the simplest, best practice for human relationships on earth. It always unites people. It almost magically puts you on the same side. And if we all followed it, it would change everything.
In our continuing series on The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses the biggest frustration when it comes to prayer.
When Jesus said "Don't throw your pearls to pigs" what did He mean exactly? And how does His statement hold a key to healthy relationships?
Why is it so easy to see problems in other people and not yourself? In this part of His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus offers His solution to help you see where you need to change and gives you the power to do it.
Jesus famously said "Do not judge." But what does it mean to be a non-judgmental person? Does it mean I become naive or stop holding up standards? The answer is found in the life Jesus lived and the implications will change everything in our relationships.
Worry seems to be a constant companion in all of our lives. But Jesus has a solution. And it's not a command or a new rule to follow. It's actually an invitation.
Greed is a problem most of us struggle with, but we don't think we do because it's so hard to see in the mirror. What was Jesus' solution to greed?
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches guidelines about fasting. How does that apply to us today?
Jesus taught that forgiveness from God is directly linked to your forgiveness of other people. What did He mean? And how does that work?
In week one of this series, we learned from Jesus how to break our addiction to approval through the practice of secrecy. Now, we see how this practice can apply to our generosity.
All human beings have an unlimited need for approval. Only God has an unlimited supply. So Jesus urges us to live as if God alone can see our lives.
