Olga Zubashko shares her story around her identity of being both Ukranian and American, the emotional impact the Russo-Ukrainian war has had on her and her community since 2014, and action steps that we can take no matter what causes or issues we are passionate about to support people in Ukraine" After our recording, I realized that subconsciously I've apparently learned to add "The" in front of Ukraine and that there is actually a history of oppression tied to that. I apologize for the use of the article, and rather than editing it out - I wanted to share an acknowledgement of this error and would like to pass along this knowledge to others so we can all un-learn that. This is the 2014 Time article that I read. As promised, here are the resources and organizations from Olga:
Get ready for this crossover episode with Dana Trimborn from The Big Dane Podcast. Crossover episode? Yes, her podcast also featured this same episode but on 3/1! Find out how it truly goes down with having a podcast in addition to a full-time job, and you’ve got two stories to hear from!
This month's mental health monday guest is Cecilia Fay. At the time this was recorded (November 2021) she was a senior at the University of Memphis studying PR. She was the Vice President of the Active Minds U of M Chapter. She is a mental health advocate and passionate about discussing the intersection of ADHD, gender discrimination and bias, and mental health.
Active Minds plays a special place in my heart because of my personal connection to the organization. I was a member of the chapter at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and our former president of Active Minds UNC (an inspiring friend, beautiful dancer, and bad*ss social justice advocate) lost her life to suicide. This episode is dedicated to Priya. You are loved and missed dearly. You showed me that it’s okay to speak my mind and speak my truth. You continue to have an impact on the world ❤️.
From her polarizing portrayal on Netflix's hit TV show Indian Matchmaking, Aparna Shewakramani became an overnight ambassador for women demanding to be heard—in their love lives, workplaces, and in every space they occupy. While she did practice law full time for 10 years, Aparna is currently on sabbatical with her first book, She's Unlikeable: And Other Lies That Bring Women Down, coming out on March 22, 2022.
Thank you to this episode's supporter - Jay Shifman. You continue inspire me with your work and your passion. Go give his podcasts a listen at https://www.chooseyourstruggle.com/!

But there are things to look forward to as well. Enjoy the episode! We hope someone out there relates to it.

Melanie Johnson is a comedic actress and writer living in LA! In this episode, we put our hilarious spin on true crime (including imagining both of us as serial killers), analyze the life of Lucille Ball, and so much more. Melanie is also 100% the reason this podcast exists. On 6/26/2020, she told me "But YES to a comedy podcast. Just go for it, girlfran! You are so charismatic and friendly, you don’t need a super original idea, just your take on a comedy podcast would be interesting...I’d just do a try-out podcast, just for the hell of it! You don’t have to release it to anyone. Just do it for you..." I released my first episode ONE MONTH later. Melanie, you are hilarious, inspiring, cheerful, creative, and THRIVING from where I'm standing. I'm so proud of everything you've accomplished, and I'm so pumped to see your movies on the big screen. In this 10 minute mini episode, you'll hear three brief updates from our hosts: life check-ins, recent struggles, and upcoming goals. Happy healing Corilynn!!
The new mental health series called Method to the Madness where we discuss issues that impact our mental health as they relate to our very unique and different backgrounds, perspectives, and ideologies. We hope to create a space where we can engage in critical dialogue, listen to, challenge, and learn from each other. We hope to model how different people can come together and find our comment interest. We might get a little mad at each other, but at the end of the day we are mad at how mental health is dealt with and talked about. Together, we will end the stigma!

In Episode 1 of the second Mental Health Monday edition, we kick off the series. We share each share of our 'why's around mental health advocacy and eliminating the stigma around mental health, mental illness, and suicide prevention.
New episodes on IGTV and YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK every Sunday. Audio will be available every two Mondays on the WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND? by Jani Rad podcast @whatsonyourmindpodcast - available on all podcast platforms. https://www.janirad.com/
