In this episode we talk to Alice Min Soo Chun (Founder and CEO SEEUS95 Inc. & Founder President Solight Design), as we discuss her companies, building relationships and so much more. Check out SEEUS95 Inc. & Solight Design) See Alice's Ted Talk See the video of her, President Clinton, and Mayor Yulin CRUZ More On Alice Alice Min Soo Chun, founder of Solight Design. Alice’s story is of an inspiring inventor, entrepreneur and former Columbia University professor who created portable, origami-inspired, solar lights to help with refugee missions, and so much more.

The story begins with Alice’s biggest passion — being a mom to her son, Quinn. At a young age, Quinn was diagnosed with asthma. After the diagnosis, they spent countless amounts of time in doctors’ offices. Through the time and effort that Alice put into understanding her son’s diagnosis, she was shocked to discover that one of four kids in New York City has asthma. This sparked the question — what kind of toxic environment do we live in?

Soon after, the 2010 Haiti earthquake rocked the country and sent 2.6B people scrambling without access to electricity. Alice was touched by the turmoil the Haitians were experiencing along with other staggering statistics such as: millions of children and their families affected by poor air quality; According to the World Health Organization, roughly 3.8 million people a year die from toxic kerosene fumes. 100K preventable dwelling fires in South Africa; a rise in women and children assaulted due to poorly lit areas and loss of light after a natural disaster. Reportedly, having a light in tent camps created a 20% decrease in assault cases.

Alice was moved to make an impact, thus SolarPuff, an award-winning, easy-to-use solar light was created under Alice’s new venture, Solight Design.

As a former Columbia University professor focusing on material technology and sustainable design/architecture, Alice brought SolarPuff to fruition. SolarPuff is a self-inflating, waterproof, solar light made from non-toxic, recyclable, hi-tech materials inspired by origami design. The light keeps its shape even when punctured and recharges in the sun lasting up to 12 hours — which is why the light can also be great for refugee missions.

In this episode, we talk to Nik Wallenda (World Record Holder & Author) as we discuss his new book, why he credits his community for his success, and what it is like going across an active volcano on a tight rope.

More On Nik

On June 23, 2013, Nik completed yet another life-long dream, this one 6 years in the making, becoming the first person to cross the Grand Canyon on a wire. His network partners, Discovery Channel, allowed Nik to undertake the walk in the Wallenda family tradition, completely untethered, and broke new ground as a network, broadcasting the event live in 183 countries. At a height of 1,500 ft above the Little Colorado River, Nik faced the challenges of wind gusts measured at 48 miles per hour, optical illusions of the canyon walls, and a dusty and precariously moving cable. Viewers listened breathlessly as Nik described the intense conditions he faced to Terry, his father and safety coordinator, and his Uncle Mike, his lead engineer, and also as he thanked God and prayed for peace in the midst of adversity as he traveled the distance of 1,300 hundred feet across. After nearly 23 minutes on the cable and realizing the end was in sight, he began to thank those that had made the walk possible, before kneeling to the cable, saluting his fans, and sprinting in the final distance to the waiting arms of family and friends. Through television and other media outlets, the event reached an audience of 23 million in the U.S. along, and millions more worldwide, setting viewing and social media records in the process. Revealing only days later the added adversity of battling and being treated for a severe cold the day of the event, Nik once again exhibited his motto, Never Give Up, and continued in his mission to inspire those around the world to pursue their dreams.

Pastor Chad Veach (Lead Pastor & Founder of Zoe Church) Show Notes: In this episode, we talk to Pastor Chad Veach (Lead Pastor & Founder of Zoe Church) as we discuss his new book, how he has transitioned during COVID, and his shoe game. Purchase his book here Check out Pastor Veach's church here More On Pastor Chad Veach While we remain on high alert through the Summer and Coronavirus fatigue firmly sets in, we are bringing you one of the most frequently sought-out voices in times of crisis — globally-renowned faith figure, bestselling author and pastor of LA’s fastest-growing young adult church (first held services in LA at nightclub 1 Oak!), Chad Veach. Timely, as he redefines what modern leadership actually is at work, with friends, and at home. He boldly challenges the archaic prototype that you must be authoritarian, feared above respected, work-obsessed. (I saw a recent study that showed Americans are working more during quarantine, extended hours at home, despite the absence of long commutes, meetings and social events.)

With a forward by the world’s defacto business authority, John Maxwell, and rave endorsements from moguls Ed Bastian/ Delta Airlines CEO, Kourtney Kardashian, DeVon Franklin, and more, the book outlines unique practices seldom touted by the world’s most successful— i.e. Literally scheduling in time to be unproductive, essential self-efficacy beliefs to counter negative spirals (especially in isolation), etc. Whether the team you lead is you and your spouse/ family, or virtual team of thousands— it explicitly starts with you.

With a disarming prominence across Hollywood (Justin & Hailey Bieber, Chris & Katherine Pratt, the Kardashians, Rickie Fowler, Tim Tebow, etc.), Chad’s family first became the focal point of a tattoo craze when stars like Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, got “G” tattoos for Chad’s oldest daughter, Georgia, who suffers from a rare life-threatening brain disease. The most poignant detail here is that Chad maintains an unshakeable faith and hope for a future full of promise, which we could really use a dose of right now. Mikaila Ulmer (Founder & CEO of Me and The Bees Lemonade) Show Notes: In this episode, we talk to Mikaila Ulmer (Founder & CEO of Me and The Bees Lemonade) as we discuss her business, her new book, and what she learned from President Obama. Purchase her book here Check out her website and non-profit.

More On Mikaila Let our founder, Mikaila, explain the origin of Me & the Bees Lemonade: When I was just four, I got stung by a bee and then got stung again less than a week later! Naturally, I didn't enjoy the bee stings at all and I became scared of bees. But then after doing some research about them, I became fascinated and learned all about what they do for me and our ecosystem. Around that same time, my family encouraged me to make a product for a couple of children's business competitions - the Acton Children’s Business Fair and Austin Lemonade Day. So I put on my thinking cap. I thought about some ideas. While I was thinking, my Great Granny Helen, who lived in Cameron, South Carolina, sent my family a 1940s cookbook, which included her special recipe for flaxseed lemonade. So then I thought, what if I make something that helps honeybees and uses my Great Granny Helen's lemonade recipe? I decided to give her beloved lemonade a new twist by adding honey from bees, instead of only sugar. That's how Be Sweet Lemonade was born! However, we had to change the name due to a copyright issue so we decided to call it Me & the Bees Lemonade because we give a percentage of sales to help save the bees. We are now celebrating more than 10 years in “buzzness!” Mikaila started her lemonade at youth entrepreneurial events and at her lemonade stand out in front of her home, donating a percentage of the profits to local and international organizations fighting hard to save the honeybees. That is why she touts: “Buy a Bottle…Save a Bee.” Now at age 15, her little idea from more than 10 years ago continues to grow and grow...by more than 500 percent since the company’s humble Austin, Texas-based beginnings. Today, the award-winning, ready-to-drink Me & the Bees Lemonades in five refreshing flavors is buzzing off the shelves of Whole Foods Market, The Fresh Market, World Market, H-E-B stores across Texas and Kroger stores in Houston. It is also available at a growing number of restaurants, food trailers and natural food delivery companies. When not traveling for speaking events to share her stories of being a social entrepreneur, leading workshops on how to save the bees, or participating in social entrepreneurship panels, you can find Mikaila coming up with ideas to help the Healthy Hive Foundation, a nonprofit to further help the mission of saving the pollinators. And of course, she’s working hard as a high school student, loving Spanish, science and rock climbing classes. Find Mikaila on Facebook and Instagram pages where followers can ‘like’ interesting facts about bees, honey and Me & the Bees Lemonade. Mikaila’s first book, Bee Fearless, Dream Like a Kid, launches in August 2020. Published by Penguin Random House, it is about her adventures in being a social entrepreneur and heading up a purpose-based brand aimed at offering premium, all-natural lemonades in a way that helps save the bees. In this episode, we talk to Bob Fisch (Founder & Former CEO of rue21) as we discuss how he led rue21 to 11 profitable years in a row, why he is a millennial baby boomer, and his latest book "Fisch Tales: The Making Of A Millennial Baby Boomer". More On Bob On his first day of work out of college, Bob Fisch was one of 100 new hires who heard the CEO of Abraham & Straus (A&S) New York identify ambitious milestones in career advancement. The new employees were told that only one of them would have what it takes to attain each of the milestones. That employee turned out to be Bob Fisch. A mere dozen or so years later, true to the CEO’s prediction, Bob was the one who rose to the rank of president—at Casual Corner, a division of U.S. Shoe. While learning his trade at A&S, Bob had the good fortune to work alongside future retail legends like Mickey Drexler (The Gap, J. Crew) and Michael Jeffries (Abercrombie & Fitch). Bob himself is recognized as a pioneering merchant for his bold and successful innovations in value-priced, fast-fashion retailing, notably at rue21. He took the company from bankruptcy to a fast-track winning streak that included a hot-stock IPO, building a national network of 1,200 stores, and a billion-dollar-plus valuation. Prestigious retail magazine Chain Store Age named Bob one of “10 CEOs to Watch in 2010.” The criteria for making the very short list wrote the magazine, was “the influence they wield in their respective categories—and because they are willing to shake things up a bit.” That describes Bob perfectly in his role as a disruptor who always is searching for better ways to inspire people and to ignite excitement in his stores, among customers and staff. His latest foray into disruption has been in the form of what Bob calls “generation splicing.” It sounds technical, but more than anything it’s about reframing your outlook on life and opening yourself up to finding wisdom from unexpected sources. A self-described Baby Boomer Millennial, Bob Fisch’s life has been uplifted by his dedication to mutual mentorship with Millennials. He teaches them business, and they teach him life. More than that, he wants everyone to know, regardless of age, that their best is yet to come. With a “whatever it takes” attitude and an excitement to help others reach their fullest potential, Bob’s wisdom, knowledge, experience, and practical methodologies have the power to transform lives and put people on trajectories that they could have only imagined. Bob’s keen awareness of the human condition laid the groundwork for what would become his book, FISCH TALES. Focused on concepts like “Mutual Mentoring” and inspiring mantras like “We Will Win Together” Bob has fostered a cross-generational understanding among his friends and colleagues that is unprecedented, and now he’s determined to take his message global.
