Conscious Slide // THEONEFOURFOUR

Conscious Slide, or Paul Lau as he is known to his friends and family, is a man born out of time, waiting for his moment. 46 years old with 24 years of clubbing under his belt, he’s seen a lot: having experienced the vibe from many a DJ at clubs and festivals across the world, he’s learnt from the best and seen first-hand what can make or break a dance floor. Starting his journey into DJing on vinyl, he spent the next few years practicing and learning, which lead him down a Progressive House route for a number of years and which, though he enjoyed this at the time, resulted in his struggle to find his own unique sound in an over-saturated market and one that began to feel stale to him. Rather than getting disheartened and giving up this only inspired him to try harder, with him acknowledging and accepting his deepening yearn for an edgier sound, which is when techno saved his life. Stepping out of the confines of his beloved vinyl and with the ever-expanding new digital frontier provided by the now-accessible internet, he was able to step in to a whole new world of music. And with each new track found, which opened the doors to new artists, new DJs and new labels, things became exciting again. Skip forward to today and he continues to immerse himself on dance floors both in the UK and internationally, and which provide the impetus for his own DJ sets. Now rocking a full digital set up with Traktor at its heart, 4 deck mixing, running through a Play Differently Model One mixer, he feels alive and he is ready to be heard.
