*A personal note: I read and re-read the covers off of Barry Jacobs’s ACC guides as a kid and it was really cool to have him do this.
Claire James stopped by the studio and Sweet Kemba a-Crossin' did we have an amicable conversation. Whether you know Claire from her work with Locked On Hornets or from her excellent live tweets of Hornets games, you have to respect her unique, often hilarious perspective. I asked her about what excited her most about the NBA All-Star game coming to Charlotte. Her answers proved her to be more prescient that Tony Romo predicting plays of a game he's already seen. The Kansas City Star's Brooke Pryor stopped by the studio and Sweet Ends a-burnin' did we have a respectful chat. Brooke covered the Super Bowl in-person, so I asked her about a positive takeaway from a game that so many people seemed to feel was less than. Then she gives a definitive answer as to which is better, North Carolina or Kansas City barbecue. Check it out, won't you?
Wake Forest tennis coach Tony Bresky stopped by the studio and Sweet Agassi's Mullet did we have a respectful back-and-forth. Coach's team had a magical season in 2018, capturing ACC and National titles. I asked Coach Bresky what is felt like to watch his team's hard work culminate in such on-court success. He was more than happy to answer.
Meredith College recently named Jen Grubb as its head soccer coach. I spoke with Coach Grubb and asked her to tell us 3 goals she'd like for her team to achieve in the coming season. She answered with enthusiasm and I definitely see her team converting this hat trick. Carolina Panthers beat writer Marcel Louis-Jacques stopped by the studio and Sweet Teppers Teppin' did we have a gentle chat. I asked Marcel what Panthers fans should be optimistic about for the future. He answered with gusto.
Duke University Women’s Rowing coach Megan Cooke Carcagno is no stranger to success. She was a gold medalist at the 2006 World Rowing Cup and a gold medalist at the 2006 FISA World Rowing Championships, helping set a world best time for the U.S. National Team. Her success has continued into her coaching career. With her background so packed with excellence, I asked her who she would give a gold medal to for kindness. She answered with aplomb.
