Did you know that Jesus came to commission us to preach the gospel of the kingdom? It's not just the minimalized American gospel of getting to heaven some day. God wants to do more than just get you to heaven by the skin of your teethe. He wants to release heaven through you here on earth.
Our core value of kingdom can basically be divided into two primary expressions. 1. It's the sense that (assuming basic orthodoxy) we are all part of the body of Christ and could win our cities if we began to work and play together better. 2. The original commission of man to multiple, subdue, and rule over the earth has be reinstated and redeemed by Christ. Jesus even gave us a model for this in the Lord's prayer; Your will be done, you kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
Another core value here at Harvest is Kingdom Excellence. This core value extends far beyond just the basic sense of doing a good job on a project. It's an overarching value that impacts literally every aspect of our lives.
Did you know that women were redeemed from the curse of Adam? So, not only is the woman free from the subservient rule of man, but she is also free from striving for position and vying for his authority.
One of the things that was impacted by the fall was the man's, and thus the world's, relationship with women. Should women have a voice and be empowered to lead as they are gifted, or should they be subservient to men? That's the question that we address in this week's podcast.
Is poverty a supreme value in the kingdom? Does God want you poor? Does the bible say anything about money? There are three primary areas that our lives can be broken in to; Our relationship with God; our relationship with others; and the financial resources that one needs to do those two categories well. Good news! Jesus has covered all three areas. Join us this week as we just barely break the ice on being redeemed from poverty.
Did you know that Jesus included health and healing in His benefits package? You have been redeemed from sickness!
Reading the bible isn't some religious activity! We're not more spiritual because we put a check in the box on this task that we are SUPPOSED to do. The bible is about relationship.
Is love a feeling or a choice? If we believe that love is simply a feeling and that we "fall" into it, we can just as easily fall out of it. We will be tossed around under its mysterious control. But if it's a choice, we can choose who and how we love. What does the bible say and who gets to define love?
The word rendered "homosexual" in the New Testament, is a word that has come under some scrutiny and opposition. The idea is that if one could prove that the word was mistranslated, it would ultimately force traditionalists to eliminate many of the otherwise prohibitive scriptures. So, was it mistranslated? Where did the word come from? What would it have meant to the original audience? Do a deep dive with us as we research the origin of the word and draw some surprising conclusions about the LGBT movement.
The LGBT movement has successfully transformed American culture. We are forever changed and will never go back to what it was 5 or 10 years ago. So, whether you like it or not, this is something that you, church, are going to have weigh in on. Do you know what the Word of God says on this subject, or are you just leaning on the tradition of the church? Has the church gotten it wrong all these years? Are the biblical texts on this subject antiquated and specific to a culture of 2000 years ago and thus of no consequence today? How in the world do we respond to our LGBT neighbors? How do we respond when asked to participate in a wedding or bake a cake? There is so much confusion on this subject, and frankly the church hasn't always gotten right. Join us as we explore these concepts and questions, as well as explore the biblical texts that speak to the LGBT world view.
God has given us everything that we need for godliness, but it's found in the knowledge of Him. It's in our pursuit of God and His Word that we discover the depths of His heart and what was truly accomplished on that cross.
What did Jesus accomplish on the cross? Is the cross limited to fire insurance, or did Jesus' sacrifice address all of that the first Adam corrupted through sin?
Was there anything that the cross didn't touch? Was there anything that Jesus didn't redeem? The benefits of the cross are enumerable, but they aren't automatic. We have to apprehend them by faith, and we can't do that if we don't know what was made available. Join us as we start to unpack this core value, the all sufficiency of the cross.
Jesus is the solution for the human sin condition. We were lost and hopeless, but God broke in!
In the same way that circumcision of the flesh in the Old Testament marked a distinction between believers and non-believers, circumcision of the heart in the New Testament also marks a distinction. You are a new creation. The old is gone. When you said yes to Jesus, your heart was circumcised and your "body of flesh" was removed. Join us in this Palm Sunday message to discover just how new you truly are.
We are made to worship. The question is, what are we worshiping? Listen this week as Ps. Shawn breaks down some of the benefits of musical worship, as well as that of a lifestyle of worship and what that looks like in a believer's life.
At its core, biblical worship involves the heart. It is the laying down of our lives in adoration. Then from the heart connected place of adoration, we serve Him. As believers, we are called to a lifestyle of worship, and that looks like more than a song sung on Sundays. It's a wholistic shift to make Jesus the center of our lives, where, because we adore Him, we seek to please Him with every aspect of our lives.
Did you know that God designed worship? It's not because He needs it or because it somehow makes Him feel more secure in His leadership, however. Worship is something that we get to do. In fact, it can be an involuntary response when we are invested at the level that God's goodness demands.
There is fullness of joy (happiness) in God's presence, and God gives us explicit instructions on how to come into His presence.
The corporate presence of God comes when we as a body are living consecrated lives before the Lord. We must shed "mixture" and "compromise", and stop avoiding and neglecting our pursuit of holiness, particularly as it relates to specific struggles we have. As priests we are called to be set apart so that we can serve God and truly love man as we have been called.
We know that God is omnipresent, which means that He is literally everywhere at once. But did you know that you can walk with God in such a way as to regularly experience His manifest presence? We were designed by God to abide in Him and that is something that goes beyond our natural intellect. We have to begin to sharpen our spirits to lead and discern His presence and His moving.
What do we mean by transparency and vulnerability? What does that look like in a church environment? Join us this week as Ps. Misty takes us a little deeper into this core value, explaining the difference between transparency and vulnerability, and showing how they are put on display as we relate with others.
The core value of vulnerability can be broken down into three simply categories: 1. Humility 2. Teachability 3. Communication We have to get to a place where we allow the reality that none of us are ever 100% right, 100% of the time to impact the way we relate to others, particularly in conflict.
What should the local church look like? What are we to become? Join us this week as Ps. Shawn shares vision for 2023 by teaching on the biblical model for church found in Ephesians 4.
Imagine what it must have been like for Elizabeth, having waiting her entire life to become pregnant, to have to share the limelight with, and even be trumped by, Mary who was now carrying the Savior through some supernatural experience. Elizabeth ends up being a considerable resource to Mary as she processes the gravity of what was now happening. Imagine if Elizabeth hadn't walked in that level of humility? Zacharias and Elizabeth prayed a lifetime for a child, a promise clearly outlined in scripture for those who were blameless before God concerning the law. We know that God is not slow on His promises, but sometimes it sure feels like it. Join with us as Ps. What do we mean when we say that we are Creating a Culture of Honor? What's the motivation of your heart when you are showing honor or performing a good deed? If we are doing good or right things simply so that we don't look bad, our motivation is off and we need to repent. Find out this week what God is really looking for in the way that we relate to one another.
Did you know that you are called to honor and submit to the many man-made authority structures in your life? Don't worry; it's not nearly as scary as it sounds. Listen this week as Ps. Shawn defines submission and honor as it relates to your government, your boss, and even your spouse.
God is very intentional to remind us who we are in Him while at the same time commissioning for service. Honor actually starts at home while looking in the mirror. Honor is knowing our own value and then being able to use that value to pour into the people around us.
What makes something valuable? Have you ever considered that? This week Ps. Shawn jumps into the core value of honor, where we begin to discover exactly what makes people valuable, and how we are to relate to them as a result.
As believers we are privileged to have received gifts from our heavenly Father. But those gifts come with the responsibility of stewarding them well. We do this when we serve the body of Christ in all areas of need through our giftings.
You will never fully understand what Paul is really suggesting the church do in the case of an unrepentant believer, unless you read the end of the story. Did you know that 1 Cor. 5 actually finds its conclusion in 2Cor.2? Tune in this week as Ps. Shawn Benson explains what really happened in the church of Corinth.

1 Cor.5 is one of the only verses in the New Testament that speaks to the corporate discipline of a churchgoing believer. This is where the Apostle Paul addresses the sexually immoral believer, and upon first look, his course of action can not only seem harsh, but even inconsistent with his own words to other churches. Welcome to our core value series. In this message we embark on our second core value with a message that centers on church discipline. What do you do with a believer who is in sin? Is it the pastor's responsibility? Should they be kicked out? Listen this week as Ps. Shawn describes the restoration heart of Father God in the context of family and community.
Any serious discussion on Discipline has to include Hebrews 12. This also happens to be the one place that people point to to prove that Father God is a punisher. Join Ps. Shawn as he dives into a verse by verse excavation of verses 1-6 in an effort to answer that very question. Is God a punisher who scourges His children?
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall find mercy. Have you ever considered how much mercy you have stored up in your account because of your sowing and reaping? God isn't calling us to be something that He is not. He's calling us to be merciful, because He is merciful.
It is true that Father God disciplines His children, whom He loves. But I would propose that because we have confused punishment and discipline in our culture, we have wrongly attributed all kinds of pain and suffering to God. Listen this week as I answers the question, is God a punisher or a disciplinarian.
Have you ever been scared of the verses in John that speak of pruning? Listen this week as Ps. Misty Benson describes the painstaking and meticulous care of the vinedresser and how that relates to the Father's abundant care and gentleness over you.
Galatians chapter 5 lists the fruit of the Holy Spirit. This is fruit is made manifest in our lives when we are in sync with God. But this list also describes who He is and how He relates to His people. Because God is never out of sync with His own character, this list becomes a good metric to determine whether we are believing a lie about God. It also happens to be a good metric to determine if someone is truly operating in the name of Jesus or by some other authority.
Core Values are the guiding principals through which you interpret all of life. They aren't just good ideas; they are literally the driving force behind what you think and why you think what you do. In this series we will explore Harvest Church's core values, but in doing so, I think that you will find that our values are actually kingdom values. So, embark with us on a journey of discovering God and His kingdom values again in this challenging and refreshing series.
With record breaking cost increases, the average American family is spending hundreds of dollars a month extra just to sustain the same level of living they had only one year ago. The question is, are you prepared?

How are you stewarding your season? All of life can be said to be a pass or fail test. If our moments of stress or even promotion are tests, are we approaching them with the necessary intentionality to pass and advance?
When we abide in Christ, we become like Him in 3 distinct ways. 1. In our compassion, grace, and love for people 2. In character, as displayed by the fruit of the Spirit 3. In power, in the demonstration of the kingdom.
In Jesus' last hours, before he went to the cross, he began engaging with His disciples on the importance of abiding. This week, as we launch our 2022 Easter series, Ps. Misty takes us into the concept of abiding, what it is, its importance, and how it is done.
Building trust with God is different than building trust with man. With man, it's simply word and action. You say you will do something and then you do it. Consistency in this arena builds trust. But with God, there are two major factors that distinguish the way we build trust with Him from that of man. If we don't understand this, instead of building trust with God, we will actually be building a history of mistrust resulting in being left shipwrecked in our faith.
We don't usually get to see the whole picture, but like Paul, we get the opportunity to find what God IS doing in our circumstances and choose joy. There is no question, God is building something in us as we walk through the storm. Will you have eyes to see?
Have you ever felt like you had to prop God up, like you had to convince others that He was good when your own circumstances seemed to point to something different? The way that we related to God and man differ, and if we aren't careful to see that, we might be setting ourselves up for disillusionment. Find out this week another facet of trusting God in the storm.
It's sometimes hard to get our mind around, but a lot of the time, advancing to the promise and even living in the promise can be difficult. That doesn't mean it's not God! Listen this week as we trace the story of Isaac, out of Genesis 26, as he begins to build his own history with God by stepping into risk.
Did you know that you are never to give brain space to negativity, even in the place of prayer? Learn this week the pattern that God has given us for coming to Him in prayer and walking away with perfect peace.
God is inviting us to think at a higher level, particularly about how we see the events of our lives. If you had a particularly rough 2021, or you have painful spots in your life that you just don't know what to do with, you won't want to miss this message.
Barna tells us that the most successful form of evangelism, by a far majority, is friendship evangelism, or the sharing of the gospel that happens in the context of your sphere of influence. Join us this week to not only find out why that is, but to be challenged to step out and begin to engage your sphere. Jesus is worthy of the reward of His suffering!

You have the God of the impossible living on the inside of you. If other people can muster the self denial, self-discipline, and the courage to face their mountains, surely you who have the Holy Spirit can conquer your current struggle!
Romans 7 is often used as a proof text for a doctrine that says that we are all just sinners saved by grace. If the Apostle Paul struggled as he did over sin, so the theory goes, then it justifies our own struggles. But we can't throw out everything that Paul said in chapter 6, which is what we would have to do to come to that conclusion. Find out this week what Paul was really talking about and discover the freedom that Christ died to see you walk in.
