On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning Brian Gentil asked Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU about the charity fundraiser they held this season for Goldfields School. Scott explained that they are presenting the school with $30,000 they raised which included the Thames valley Swampfoxes jerseys the school pupils signed that were auctioned off. A great effort.
Scott ran through a big northern region game development course coming up in Waihi in mid February next year with a lot of unions sending their representatives that do the job like Scott for a full on course that includes speakers and updates.
Brian and Scott checked out the World Rugby Awards where All Black Will Jordan won Breakthrough Player of the Year Award. Scott said he deserves it after scoring 15 tries in 11 games.
There was only one woman from New Zealand that featured in the Women's World Rugby Team of the year, Stacey Fluhler. When Brian mentioned her maiden name Waaka, Scott knew exactly who he was talking about, saying Stacey had affiliations with Thames Valley.
And Scott and Brian talked about the three New Zealanders, Ardie Savea, Beauden Barrett and that man Will Jordan again, who featured in the World Rugby Men's Team of the Year.
There were plenty of New Zealanders up for World Rugby Coach of the year with Ian Foster from the All Blacks, Australia Coach Dave Rennie as well as New Zealand women's sevens coaches Allan Bunting and Cory Sweeney nominate, but it was England's Simon Middleton who took the honour, and in doing so he has become the first coach of a women's team to win World Rugby Coach of the Year.
Scott said it was well deserved with the way he has coached England's "Red Roses" to their third successive Six Nations title in April and the team finished the year with an unbeaten record, winning 18 tests in a row. That included a couple of resounding wins against our Black Ferns. Scott and Brian are looking forward to some fantastic women's rugby at the Rugby World Cup coming up here next year.
And the sevens players of the year will be announced today with Sarah Hirini and Scott Curry in contention.

Brian asked Mayor Sandra about one of the items on the agenda for a quarterly report on how her Council is performing at today's Council meeting.
The Performance Measures Overview Report provides an update to elected members and the public on her organisation's progress against non-financial performance measures.
This is for Quarter One – which is up to the end of September 2021. The report measures against the 2021-2022 Long Term Plan progress.

The changes being considered will affect Thames township, Moanatairi, Kauaeranga Valley, Totara Valley, Kōpū, Matatoki and Puriri.
Changes include increasing densities in some places, creating new greenfield development zones, and ensuring that there is a good supply of commercial and industrial land to attract new businesses to the area and allow our existing businesses to grow.
Your input at this stage will help to determine how land is used, plus ensuring Thames’ unique identity is protected.
The Spatial Plan is not a statutory document but will inform the District Plan, infrastructure planning and investment decisions.

Brian Gentil spoke with Thames Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie to talk about the announcement of the government’s traffic light system and what it means for the Coromandel. The orange light for the district looks simpler than people were anticipating, Mayor Sandra said.
She explained that it was pretty good really and is Level 2 in a way. She also talked about vaccination certificates and how she understands there are a few issues. "I don't think it's too onerous. It's the vaccination certificates that are going to determine what level of business oversights that you have."
Vaccination certificates are or may be required to access certain places.
Wear your masks, keep your distances and sign in is the key.
Brian moved on to TCDC projects work going on at the moment, asking Mayor Sandra about what's happening across the district?
Council has lodged a consent with Waikato Regional Council (WRC) to renew the resource consent to discharge treated wastewater from the Matarangi wastewater treatment plant.
Public submissions close on 2 December.
Matarangi is growing, lots of subdivision is happening and about $18.5 million to invest in upgrading the wastewater treatment by 2026 has been allocated.
At Whitianga water meters are being installed, which will continue throughout the summer.
More than 1000 water meters are being installed on properties, which will help to detect leaks and improve network maintenance.
People won't be charged for metered water. If that was to occur it would require public consultation which may be looked to in the next Long Term Plan which is three years away.
Next week public engagement on the Thames and Surrounds Spatial Plan project will help set out the long term vision of how, why and where Thames can grow.

Police can only do so much to prevent crashes through education, engagement and enforcement and NZTA and local government fix and repair roads to make them as safe as they can be and promote safe driving. But none of this makes any difference when certain motorists are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or are just choosing to drive dangerously for whatever reason. If you’re what could be considered a normal prudent driver you can tip the odds in your favour by driving under the speed limit, always wearing your seat belt, following at a safe distance so you have time to react and constantly scanning for hazards when you’re driving.

Coromandel MP Scott Simpson called in to Gold FM for a chat. After telling Brian Gentil how getting his eyes lasered was one of the best things he's ever done Brian asked him about National's stance on Three Waters.
We're opposed to it because we think there are better ways of solving water infrastructure problems, Scott said, adding that one of the first things National will do is to repeal the legislation and return the assets back to rate payers and Councils.
Scott discussed the cause of Three Waters being introduced being due to a problem with sheep and infrastructure that needed upgrading which has been fixed for about $80 million, which is not a lot of money. Fixing the areas where there are problems would be better than a big corporate model being foisted on us all from the National Party's perspective.
Scott and Brian also discussed Covid 19 and how things have changed since the first year and the problems that are occurring.
Brian asked Scott what would National do that is different. He said Rapid Antigen Testing would enable people to get on with life. He is a keen supporter of vaccination and encourages everyone to get vaccinated. He's hopeful a lot of people will be heading to his electorate for summer.
Scott wished students well with their NCEA, Scholarship exams and other educational challenges,
Brian asked Scott about the protest he attended on the weekend. He supported the Groundswell Protest because he feels farmers have legitimate gripes with concerns about SNA's (Significant Natural Areas) and Three Waters in particular and they deserve to be heard.
Brian asked him Scott about the traffic light system and how he saw this working. Scott said the traffic light system is coming at us quite quickly and put his tongue in his cheek to talk about the two sets of traffic lights in his electorate and the other fact that there are no escalators in the Coromandel electorate.
Scott ended with a look ahead to getting his shoes off and getting some sand between his toes this summer and enjoying our beautiful back yard.
Scott had his mask ready as he headed off the Parliament. Click on our podcast to hear the full interview with Coromandel MP Scott Simpson.
Mayor Sandra joined Brian Gentil again this week for a Thames Coromandel catch up.
They have been updating where TCDC is at with the Three Water Reform programme. Brian asked Mayor Sandra what they plan to do now? She explained her Council's position telling him.
We've expressed our deep unhappiness with the Government’s decision to mandate Three Waters reform and we're going to fight hard for our communities at an upcoming Select Committee hearing.
The mandate is a total betrayal of the principles of local government, and we will be expressing our communities’ strong opposition at every available forum.
The reforms had initially been progressed through a voluntary, partnership-based approach, and in 2020 our Council agreed to opt into the early stages of the reform package.
This did not commit our Council to further reform or to transfer of assets. We have since been listening closely to our communities and the very clear message we’re getting is that we must hold the line on our water infrastructure staying in our local ownership.
Our Council relayed our communities’ key positions through a formal feedback process in October. Shortly afterward, government announced the reforms would be forced through.
There’s been no attempt to either consult properly, nor to listen to the input received so far. It’s been an abysmal process.
Over the next two months, our Council will run a campaign seeking community opinion and input on the next stage of reform. We don’t intend to back down.
Brian asked what Council will not back down on?
Mayor Sandra said they will be advocating for water and water-related infrastructure assets to remain in local ownership.
Local voices to have a place in planning and service delivery.
Assessments about our district to be made on rateable household property numbers, rather than usually resident population.
Local determination of the entity boundary that is most appropriate for our district, based on stakeholder and community feedback.
Now summer is around the corner the Thames Coromandel district is likely to receive an influx of visitors, Brian asked ... how is Council preparing?
Making sure core services run smoothly - local roads are ready, public education and awareness of water use/restrictions may be necessary and rubbish/recycling collected are priorities.
Mayor Sandrs said we are looking forward to our returning absentee ratepayers and visitors, many of who have been in lockdown for months. They're going to arrive excited and rearing to go
Let's all be patient with each other. In regards to COVID - our Council is in a communications/agency coordination capacity - we don't have resource to do/fund more.
The Emergency Management Team will be coordinating along and issues that arise with the comms team and from an elected member perspective Councillor Sally Christie Chair of the Emergency Management Committee will be front and centre to ensure the district and its people have a safe and enjoyable summer.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU how his body was shaping up after taking to the field with his Whangamata side on the weekend. Scott said it was a bit sore but well worth it. Whangamata went on to win the Thames Valley Club Rugby 7's Tournament held at Waihi Rugby and Sports Club Grounds in Kenny St. Scott even dotted down a couple of times I'm told, well done.
Scott said it was a fantastic day and there are a few who could have used a little more sunscreen. He also coached the Thames Valley Women's Vixens 7's team with their three games against Whanganui, and while they didn't win any of the games they have come a long way from 4 weeks ago when they first got together, and Scott can see with the team doubling in size the way the team is shaping up.
The focus went on the NPC finals played across the weekend with Scott and Brian first up talking about Taranaki's win over Otago, making it a clean sweep for the season with 10 wins from 10 for the amber and blacks. The final score was 32 - 19.
And Waikato prevailed over Tasman, the defending champions, on Saturday night in a close game. They won 23 - 20 and Scott mentioned some stand out performances from players that made the difference in a game that was close right to the finish. Scott said that's about 15 years since the last time they have won for the season.
Brian and Scott talked about the Black Ferns loss to France, losing 29 - 7, and how they have some rebuilding to do after being the dominant team for so long.
And the All Blacks suffered another defeat, this time against France in their last game of their Northern Hemisphere tour, going down 40 - 25 to a classy French side that never let up. Scott said the team needs a rest after a long tour but that was no excuse, and you can't blame the coach for a poor performance by the players. Scott mentioned several he thought weren't playing to the best of their ability for whatever reason. Brian brought up those who were quick to say it's time to change the coach as we haven't lost three games in a season since 2009. That's true he said, and we didn't get rid of Graham Henry, he was signed up for another two years to take the AB's to the World Cup in 2011, Sir Graham Henry now!

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about the results across the weekend with the English Premier League. Brian and Rudy ran through a number of games and their score before getting to Manchester United, Rudy's favourite team, and their loss to Watford 4 - 1. Their coach, or manager as they are known in England, has been given his marching orders Rudy said. Brian can't fathom why it's always the coach, when the players need to do to task asked of them and when that doesn't happen ... why is it the coach every time? No doubt there'll be some big names putting their hand up for the Man U job. Liverpool had a good win against Arsenal 4 nil and top of the table Chelsea continued their winning ways with a 3 - 0 win away over Leicester City.
Rudy and Brian checked out the games coming up midweek with the UEFA Champions League with some big name teams taking the field. Villarreal plays Manchester United, Chelsea are up against Juventus, Liverpool are playing Porto and Manchester City are at home against PSG.
Rudy talked about Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard's first outing as coach for Aston Villa on the weekend scoring a 2 nil win over Brighton.
Brian mentioned the Football Ferns will be taking the field on Wednesday with their game against South Korea, which is good for them as they haven't had too much game time recently.
And it was good to hear Rudy got a phone call late last week from Hamilton Wanderers where his son Mason is playing, saying they are looking at including him in the first team this season, congrats Mason.

Brian Gentil spoke to Pip Coombes about the very important work she and other volunteers are doing at Waihi Beach to protect endangered dotterels.
It’s nesting time for dotterels at Waihi Beach but unfortunately they are being impacted by the development and growth that has taken place and their nesting sites are now few and far between. Pip’s group Dot Watch works hard managing the nests to ensure the survival of the dotterel, Pip told Brian.
Once widespread there are only about 2500 birds left in New Zealand, making dotterels more at risk than some species of kiwi.
Pip said she became involved when former Prime Minister Helen Clark posted on social media asking the community to do something about the dotterels at Waihi Beach. A group went to the local community board to seek funding to try and start up a volunteer group they have called Dot Watch.
Dotterels nest in open sites, typically low-lying close to beaches and lagoons making their habitat increasingly at threat from the growing urban spawl and the extra threats human development brings with it.
Pip told Brian while people are a threat, dotterels are prone to predation so multiple nests have been lost from Waihi Beach this season. Dotterels can nest up to three times a season. Some birds have already nested twice and all their eggs have been lost by being eaten or taken away.
Cats are becoming an increasing threat to the nesting dotterels with them being out from dusk til dawn Pip said. The cats come in and steal the eggs or eat the chicks.
Dogs off the leash mow through the nests and trample the eggs and a whole host of other predators like stoats, rats, hedgehogs, black backed gulls, spur winged plovers, you name it, these little dudes have no chance.
King tides are another threat which has meant volunteers, with the help of the Waihi Beach Surf Club, moved the eggs to protect them, with permission from DoC under a wildlife permit. It was a first attempt and very successful.
Pip told Brian the nests are fenced off and there is signage alerting visitors to the beach that dotterels are nesting. People are asked to please stay at least 20 metres away from the nests and don’t stand there rubber necking at the chicks because close proximity to the nests can cause all sorts of problems from dehydration of the chicks with the parents avoiding the nest to a parent attempting to protect their young with their wings which can harm or kill the chicks. It’s the same for eggs on the nest, please don’t spend time around the nest as the birds will avoid the area while you’re there and the heat of the sun will kill off the eggs causing all sorts of problems. Birds then sit on nests that will never hatch and have to be removed, which causes the trust built up between the birds and volunteers to be eroded.
Brian asked Pip how the nests have fared this season. Pip told him it hasn’t been a good season for the dotterels this year for a variety of reasons.
It’s really important people keep their pets indoors at night during nesting season.
The dotterels have even been named this season. The pair of birds nesting by the surf club have been named Zig and Zag and the David Bowie has been remembered with the naming of chicks.
Pip said Dotwatch is trying to build awareness of the dotterels and develop a culture where people can share the beach with the birds and recognise that it is their home and they’ve been here far longer than we have.
Dotterels always go back to same spot to nest, usually within a metre. The breeding season can be quite extended and last til late February to mid March.
Pip reminded locals who have cats to please, please keep their cats indoors, especially at night, for the next four weeks to give the chicks a better chance of surviving as they’re already up against it.
Flyers have been distributed around the North End area of Waihi Beach area to let residents and holiday makers know about the nests so that people can get in touch as contact details are included.
Please take the necessary precautions to ensure New Zealand dotterels have a chance to recover their population and remember to keeps your dogs on a leash and your cats under control during breeding season.
The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day about the training this week and the game this weekend for the Thames Valley Women's Vixens side. They're playing Whanganui in three 7's games on Saturday at Waihi Rugby and Sports grounds with the first game kicking off at 11 am. Scott's really pleased how they've come together over the last four weeks. Good luck ladies as you play for the inaugural Wahine Toa Shield, Go the Vixens!
Scott and Brian talked about the Thames Valley Club Rugby 7's Tournament which is also being played at Waihi Rugby and Sports Club with some fast action across Saturday from 10 am. All the best to all the teams competing in what looks like a fine day. Scott reminded us that because of the covid restrictions no large groups of people will be allowed. Remember your mask for built up areas where people gather like for refreshments.
The NPC finals of the Championship and Premiership are on this weekend and Scott and Brian talked about the two games. Taranaki plays Otago at 2.05 pm Saturday, with Brian going for the North Island team as usual. And Waikato are at home, in Hamilton, for their game against Tasman starting at 7.05 pm. Scott says the in form team is Tasman but he'd really like to see Waikato win as he hasn't seen them lift a trophy at the end of the season for about 10 years! Brian, as usual, is backing the North Island side, especially as it's our own Waikato!!
And the Black Ferns are an early start for viewers on Sunday when they take on France. They haven't had a win on their tour so far and Scott says it's shown the lack of international play they have had over the last couple of years.
Brian said it's probably a good time to rebuild, in between the World Cup, Olympics and other major tournaments.
The All Blacks end their tour on Sunday when they take on France as well. After the loss to Ireland last weekend Scott reckons we'll be in for a different team this week. Sam Cane is back, Sam Whitelock is still the captain, Aaron Smith starts at halfback and Richie Mounga takes on the 10 jersey with Beauden Barrett still injured. Brian is looking forward to the game, which is at the nice start time of 9 am Sunday, and Scott wasn't complaining about the idea of a good brekkie leading up to kick off either.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday started with Brian asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about a birthday celebration in his family, which didn't leave much room for Rudy to keep his wife Karen's birthday today quiet ... sorry Karen, have a great weekend.
Brian and Rudy commented on the All Whites win over Gambia last Wednesday 2 nil and that they know full well they need some tougher competition to truly challenge them.
Rudy ran through the details of the A-League Competition with the Wellington Phoenix coming up against McCarthur in their season opener this weekend. Local George Ott is part of the Phoenix now and Rudy says while he may not get to take the field the experience is a good start.
Brian asked Rudy about Hamilton Wanderers. Rudy said their training is starting again next week now the covid level in Hamilton has come down, and there's an Under 20 league in the new year which his son Mason is hoping to be part of.
Rudy and Brian checked out the results from the mid week Europe World Cup Qualifier games including England's 10 - 0 win over San Marino and Rudy's favourite team the Netherlands 2 nil win over Norway.
The English Premier League gets underway again this weekend and Brian and Rudy talked about some of the games. Leicester City host league leaders Chelsea, Liverpool plays Arsenal, Watford are at home against Manchester United, Manchester City hosts Everton and Wolves are at home against West Ham.
And Rudy brought us up to date with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard as he gets his first game as head coach of Aston Villa, who are 16th on the table, as they come up against 7th placed Brighton at home.

On the Gold FM Fire Call Out Moe Stevens, Chief Fire Officer at Waihi Fire and Rescue, went over the four calls they attended over the last week.
Last Tuesday, November 9, at 11 am they headed about a kilometre south of Waihi to the weigh station on the side of State Highway 2 near Baxter Rd, where a vehicle had been reported in with smoke coming from under its bonnet. When the arrived they found a ute that had overheated and the 'smoke' was actually steam. Moe said it was a bit strange when the vehicle driver asked if he could use Moe's mobile to call for some help, as he didn't have one.
Later last Tuesday at 2 pm the siren went off again. This time they headed to Bradford Rd where there had been a report of gas being smelt. They checked the area out and pinpointed where they through it may be coming from. A commercial property had a truck cleaning out their oil and waste and this is where the smell was coming from. Brian asked Moe if the have gas monitors on board the fire engine. Moe said that they do, but they didn't need to use anything this time. He said the strong breeze had sent the smell around the neighbourhood, and it also helped disperse it.
At 3 pm on Wednesday November 10 they were called to School Lane to help St John with a patient lift.
And on Monday November 15 the siren sounded at 5.30 pm when they were called out to Coffee's Creek on the outskirts of Waihi after some kids set fire to trees. Moe said it's probably the start of the summer season unfortunately and they need to realise the damage they can cause, and the people they put at risk by doing this sort of thing.

Thames Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie joined Brian Gentil to update local issues in her district.
Brian mentioned they had been talking off air about her concern regarding the NZTA Waka Kotahi decision to make a two lane bridge one lane due to safety, the Boundary Creek Bridge just north of Te Mata. Mayor Sandra is concerned that with the peninsular being one big loop if a road gets closed it becomes a major situation right across the district. "It's our lifeline," she told Brian. Council has now asked for NZTA for data about the bridges in the district that details when the bridges were last structurally accessed, what their scores were and the remaining life history for each bridge. "We can't afford to have any bridge down at any time for any reason," the Mayor said.
She also made a comment about the roading budget having been reduced and what could happen with Three Waters if something similar were to happen with water infrastructure.
Council’s Shoreline Management Project held a series of successful online meetings last week.
The online meetings were designed to give property owners outside the Coromandel, or those who couldn’t make physical meetings due to COVID restrictions, the opportunity to engage with the project.
There was good attendance online, and the team fielded plenty of insightful and useful comments and questions from our communities.
The Shoreline Management Project has been examining the risks and hazards that are faced from coastal inundation and erosion as a result of climate change.
The Coastal Panels and the project team are now at the “what do we do about it” stage of their work.
All the information, options, and risk assessments for each section of the coastline are now online.
There is also a feedback tool available online for the public to leave comments relating to specific sections of the coastline.
The feedback is still open this week and it will be critical to selecting the correct options and adaptation pathways for each of the districts.
Brian asked Mayor Sandra about one of the issues community boards all raised about footpath budgets being reduced when they met for the last time of the year over the past fortnight and asked "what’s behind this?"
Waka Kotahi (NZ Transport Agency) has reduced the amount of its discretionary funding for capital works construction in the district.
As a result some projects will be reduced in scope or deferred.
In the past Waka Kotahi has subsidised capital projects including new footpath construction by about 51 per cent, with Community Board budgets making up the rest and setting the priority for the footpath construction programmes.
Over the next three years the subsidy will be focussed on road safety schemes previously approved by Waka Kotahi, with the remainder being proposed by staff to be allocated to an improvement required as part of an economic growth package.
Mayor Sandra mentioned there could be potential to sacrifice some of the footpath budget and reiterated her concern about roading budgets being reduced. Council will make a decision on the allocation of the available funding at its 7 December meeting.
The Government’s proposed Three Waters Reform Programme will become mandatory effective 1 July 2024, creating a new four-entity structure that would manage water services across New Zealand.
Brian asked Mayor Sandra for an update on the three waters reform project and the impact on her council at the moment.
Council’s submission to government on the reform programme was due in October.
What happens now is technical groups are to be formed to refine details relating to issues to be worked on – these will cover governance, rural water supplies, planning alignment. ·Recognition of the first allocation of ‘better off funding’ is to be available from 1 July 2022.
A series of select committee and related public submissions and hearings processes related to the Waters Services Entities Bill and Water Services Entities (Implementation) Bill and Economic Regulation (Water Services) Bill with MBIE leading the regulation and consumer protection public consultation processes.
A national transition unit board is to be established and consultation processes to be implemented.
Remind us what your Council’s position has been, Brian asked?
Council thinks this should be driven by rateable household property numbers, rather than usually resident population numbers. The usually resident population-based funding model is limited and misrepresents the reality of the three water service delivery requirements for our district.
It is proposed currently that TCDC be part of Entity B – but Entity A is also an option. The Council has no confirmed position but will request meetings with interested parties, including iwi and neighbouring districts to consider which makes most sense for all partners.
Council recognises and highlights this is a controversial issue and the feedback received from residents and ratepayers is to “opt-out” with requests that water must remain in public ownership.
Elected members are interested in thoughts and points of view on the reforms to help inform their positions and feedback to central Government. They are receiving a large amount of feedback already, and you can continue to send this to Thames Coromandel District Council at threewaters@tcdc.govt.nz
You can also go to tcdc.govt.nz/threewatersreform for more info.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, about the Heartland Competition finals games played across the country. Scott ran through the games with the Lochore Cup going to Whanganui with their win over North Otago 22 - 16. The Bill Osborne Taonga was won by Poverty Bay who beat Mid Canterbury 33 - 26 and the Meads Cup went the way of South Canterbury, who had the home ground advantage when they played the Thames Valley Swampfoxes, with a final score of 35 - 16.
Brian and Scott checked out the NPC semifinals next with some good games, and an upset too. Otago beat Manawatu 44 - 16 when they came to visit, Taranaki were victors over Southland 25 - 13, Hawkes Bay were surprisingly beaten Scott said in their game against Tasman, going down 33 - 27, while Waikato came out on top in their close game against Canterbury, taking the game 17 - 14.
Scott and Brian touched on the Black Ferns game against France, and another loss, going down 38 - 13, with another game this coming weekend against them.
And the All Blacks loss to a determined Ireland side early on Sunday can't be called an upset anymore Scott said, as they have now beaten the AB's three out of their last five meetings. It was a fantastic game that saw the Irish take the game to the All Blacks and never let up, winning the game 29 -20 at the end. The stats were stacked against the All Blacks with the number of tackles over twice that of the Irish, not helping their cause. Scott said the rushing defense on the AB's is something they need to look at and it's very likely to feature again this coming weekend when they play their last game of their Northern Hemisphere Tour against France.
Brian and Scott talked about the Thames Valley Women's Vixens team training this Thursday at 6.30 pm at Thames, and that any more women who would like to join them can turn up. They have a game coming up against Whanganui soon so get along Scott says.
And Scott mentioned that next weekend there's a Thames Valley Club Sevens Tournament happening at Waihi with eight teams involved and will give us more details on Friday's report.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning Brian started by asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about the day away with the Waihi College First XI to wrap up the season. Rudy said it went well with a few games of ten pin bowling, ask Rudy who won, and then a meal.
The FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers continued across the weekend and Rudy and Brian ran through some of the results, including an 8 nil win for France over Kazakhstan, Turkey beating Gibraltar 6 - 0 and Wales winning 5 -1 against Belarus. There were also some games being played during the Football Report with more to come over the next couple of days. These include Scotland playing Denmark and England come up against San Marino. Rudy ran through several of the other games as well, including the Netherlands who play Norway and the Finland game against France, both on Wednesday morning.
The English Premier League has had a break for the international games and returns this weekend with some great matchups. Rudy and Brian looked at the table and who was playing before wrapping up with an update on Barcelona star striker Sergio Aguero, who is taking the advice of the club doctors and resting for three months after it was reported he had cardiac arrhythmia, an irregular heartbeat.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday was all about finals, semifinals and an international.
Brian Gentil spoke with Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer Scott Day about the Heartland Competition finals weekend first. The Bill Osborne Trophy is on the line this weekend in Gisborne, when Poverty Bay take on Mid-Canterbury on Sunday at 2.05 pm. Scott's picking a home win for this one.
In the Lochore Cup final at 1.05 pm on Sunday Brian is backing the boys from the North Island, and Scott has gone the same way with Whanganui too strong for their North Otago opponents.
And there was no argument when it came to supporting the Thames Valley Swampfoxes in their Meads Cup final against South Canterbury in Timaru on Sunday with kick off at 3.35 pm.
Scott and Brian checked out the NPC semi-final games this weekend, starting with Friday night's game between Manawatu and Otago. Scott is backing Manawatu saying he thinks they will have the upper hand.
On Saturday Taranaki has the home ground advantage in their game against Southland, Hawkes Bay should be too strong for Tasman and Brian has gone for Waikato to beat Canterbury in the other semi-final, while Scott thinks the southerners will win!
The All Blacks game against Ireland this weekend came under the spotlight with Scott saying the AB's have put forward a very strong side with a good looking bench to add to the mix, and they should be too good for the Irish.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC if their senior side, who won the second division, were going up or not to the first division for next season. Rudy said there had been some talk but no decision had been made yet. Some want to go up a division while others think they should stay where they are for another year and then think about it. We'll wait to find out the outcome.
The World Cup Qualifiers are back in action with games being played as the Football Report was on. Rudy ran through some of the games and highlighted again how difficult it must be for some of the players who might play three games in one week, two for their club and in between representing their country, so there're some hard yards done in the background to keep that sort of fitness up.
Brian and Rudy checked out the games coming up next week with the English Premier League, which takes a break this weekend for the internationals window to take place.
Rudy also had some interesting news about previous Liverpool player, and one of the best midfielders of his generation, Steven Gerard, who has just been appointed manager, or coach as we say in NZ, of Aston Villa.
And Rudy mentioned the Wellington Phoenix and the local connection for this coming season with George Ott from Waihi joining their ranks. Brian's looking forward to seeing how they go with their season getting underway later this month.

Road Policing Message
Great work from members of the community at Waihi Beach last week. Police received multiple calls about crazy driving at the north end and Bowentown. Due to those quick calls police were able to get to both locations quickly and apprehend the perpetrators. This is a perfect example of how you can help your local police. If you see something, do something and call police at the time offending is occurring so police can respond and deal to those that would inflict harm in our communities.

Brian Gentil spoke to Mayor Sandra Goudie to catch up on what's happening with housing, particularly in Thames and surrounds.
Mayor Sandra told Brian Thames is beyond critical in terms of housing supply. There's an urgent need to accelerate housing for Thames so council is working with Kāinga Ora’s (Government’s Housing Department) to help speed up housing opportunities and unlock infrastructure (water, wastewater and roading) investment for some parts of the Thames area.
At the end of this month and through summer TCDC will be seeking people's views on "Your Thames, Tomorrow", which will help with considerations for land use change, infrastructure development and delivery, environmental management and recognition of cultural values.
Council has already done a large amount of work on the principles and objectives of Your Thames, Tomorrow as well as early conversations with iwi, agencies and community and business focus groups. Mayor Sandra explained how Council is now at the point where it’s about sharing progress much wider and seeking input on their direction.
There's an immediate and urgent need for housing and affordable housing for permanent residences in Thames, in particular.
Many employers have difficulty attracting workers to well-paying jobs due to the shortage of housing to accommodate them permanently.
It’s difficult to find residential, commercial and industrial land in Thames and Kopu that is free from natural hazards and commercially viable to develop.
A lot of evidence and data has been gathered which will be shared around infrastructure and current land use issues, while also working alongside the Shoreline Management Plan project team, which is looking at proposed adaptive pathways developed to help with planning new growth outside of coast inundation areas, so the overall risk profile of the Thames community is reduced.
"But there’s also a wealth of information within our communities that we also want to listen and find out more about," Mayor Sandra said.
This is a collaborative exercise to produce an evidence-based, future-focused (30-year plus) strategy that outlines an agreed vision and direction for Thames and its surrounds.
It will help with planning for the future, allowing Council to get ahead of the challenges the community is facing and create a great place to live, work and play for everyone.
For landowners, business owners and developers this will be important because it provides a strategic direction to make long term decisions.
For Council, it’s important because it informs decisions made during changes to the District Plan, will inform infrastructure planning and investment decisions and ultimately improve community outcomes. This is not a statutory document, but it will help inform any planning/rezoning work down the track.
An online survey will be going public at the end of this month and TCDC will be hosting online meetings so you can chat to them from your home.
There'll be targeted letter drops to property owners.
Drop-in sessions at venues around the Thames ward later this month.
You can find out more online at www.tcdc.govt.nz
Contact Mitch King, the project lead directly mitch.king@tcdc.govt.nz to provide feedback.
All feedback will be received with an open mind and be given due consideration in decision making. Mayor Sandra said, "We are here to genuinely listen and consider what people have to say."

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, about the Heartland Competition, and Thames Valley's game against Whanganui at Boyd Park in Te Aroha.
Scott said there was a great crowd there but unfortunately the Swampfoxes just didn't put it together on the day losing 35 - 27. Scott said it's probably the best time to have a loss, going into the final playing for the Meads Cup next weekend. It will give them a wake up call, and an opportunity to look at their game and come out a better team. Next weekend they travel south to play league leaders South Canterbury in Timaru with a 3.30 pm kick off.
Brian and Scott also ran through the other results of the Heartland competition.
The NPC had some great games across the weekend as well, and Scott ran through the results, including Waikato beating Otago 27 - 25 at their new home base of Rotorua Internatinal Stadium, Tasman with a comfortable win over Wellington 34 - 22 and a good win 40 - 28 for Canterbury over Bay of Plenty.
And Scott wasn't particularly impressed with the All Blacks win over Italy, with too many simple mistakes, dropped balls and general lack of direction when the Italian line came up quickly, cutting off the options of the AB's. Brian agreed and also mentioned it must be difficult with all eyes on you and an expectation of high scoring, mistake free rugby week in week out. Brian also mentioned how the All Blacks have broken a number of records this season. They have now scored 96 tries in 2021, breaking Argentina's record of 92 set in 2003, while their total points tally now stands at 675, eclipsing South Africa's 658-point haul from 2007. Scott mentioned the types of oppositions may have helped with them.
Scott ended with a reminder to any women who would like to be a part of the Thames Valley Vixens Women's Rugby side to turn up at Thames Rugby grounds on Thursday ready for a 6.30 pm start with nothing too serious and a lot of fun guaranteed.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC started with some banter about Brian's, and Richard James from Waihi AFC's, favourite side Liverpool losing just before the Football Report, going down 3 - 2 against West Ham. Rudy had wished the Hammers all the best on Friday. Brian was quick to point out that Rudy's team Manchester United had also lost, in their local derby of all things, against Manchester City 2 nil.
Rudy and Brian checked out the other results as well, and with Chelsea held to a draw 1 all against Burnley it's has changed the table slightly, with less points between teams after 8 rounds.
Rudy also mentioned the 'changing of the guard' with Tottenham Hotspur letting their manager go.
The UEFA Champions League has some great games on the way and Rudy gave a rundown of who is playing who in the next round, including top English sides Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.
There are some FIFA World Cup Qualifier games coming up which Rudy touched on with Brian including England against Albania, Italy playing Switzerland, Germany at home against Liechtenstein and Montenegro hosting Rudy's home country the Netherlands.
Rudy spoke about the different styles played for the club as compared to for their country, and how players didn't have much time to gel within their national sides in between playing for their clubs each week.
Brian updated the All Whites game coming up confirming they play The Gambia on Wednesday 17 November in Abu Dhabi, and also mentioned the Wellington Phoenix get their season underway against McArthur FC in Campbelltown on Saturday 21 November. Rudy is looking forward to watching one of their new recruits George Op, who has spent some time playing alongside Mason Sas, Rudy's son, at Hamilton Wanderers.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, Rugby Development officer with Thames Valley RFU, about the training night in Waihi on Thursday for the Thames Valley Vixens. Scott is the coach and he was pleased the numbers have increased, and it's not too late for other interested women to join them at their next training session which is going to be held in Thames next Thursday. Contact Scott at TVRFU if you want more details.
Brian and Scott checked out the Heartland Competition with Thames Valley at home for possibly the last time this Saturday. They're playing Whanganui, who are right on their heals, at Boyd Park in Te Aroha with kickoff at 2 pm. Scott and Brian talked about the other games as well, with first placed South Canterbury traveling away to play West Coast. The Swampfoxes may have to travel south to play for the Meads Cup depending on this weekend's results. Get along if you can and give them yur positive support. It's just $5 for adults, cash at the gate.
The NPC has some good games again this weekend, with Waikato taking on Otago, and Scott thinks Wellington might be too strong for Tasman. Hawkes Bay have a 'friendly' against Northland so the Ranfurly Shield is not up for grabs.
Scott and Brian talked about the All Blacks game against Italy early on Sunday morning. Sam Cane and Dane Coles are back, Sam as captain, and there are a few other lineup changes from last weekend's game against the USA. Ian Foster is resting some players and Brodie Retallic is taking the extra week with his shoulder injury.
Scott thinks the scoreline will be comfortable for the AB's, but don't right off the Italians he said.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning started with Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC and Brian Gentil talking about yet another cracker of a goal from Christian Ronaldo, saving Man U from a loss in the UEFA Champions League, and a commentator recently said how there are no words left to describe the talent he possesses.
The focus as on the English Premier League first with some great games lined up this weekend. Rudy and Brian ran through them, including top of the table Chelsea playing Burnley, Manchester United at home against neighbours Manchester City, Everton plays Tottenham, Arsenal are up against Watford, Crystal Palace are at home to Wolves and Liverpool travel away to play West Ham, who Rudy would like to see win!
There were some midweek games to cover with the UEFA Champions League with Rudy and Brian running through Manchester United's lucky escape with a 2 all draw thanks to Ronaldo scoring in the last moments in their game against Atalanta, Villareal's win against Young Boys, Chelsea beat Malmo 1 nil to add to their 4 - 1 win in the first round against them. Manchester City continued with another win against Brugge 4 - 1 to add to their first round win 5 -1 and Liverpool scored twice to beat Atletico Madrid 2 nil.
Brian mentioned the Football Ferns have secured a couple of international games against Korea Republic late this month, which Rudy thinks will be good for them as they settle in under new head coach Jitka Klimková.

Brian Gentil from Gold FM caught up with Greg Sheppard, the General Manager of Harcourts Gold Star in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach, and talked about the market, rugby and the Harcourts Foundation.
Brian started by asking Greg what the market is like currently, with some people who live in lock down areas where they can't travel and how they are viewing, and buying, houses around our area.
Greg explained that virtual tours, and friends or family that live outside the restricted lockdown areas looking on their behalf are ways potential buyers are getting as close as they can to properties, and they are often buying sight unseen.
Greg and Brian discussed the increasing cost of houses as well as who was buying at the moment, Greg saying it was tough for first home buyers and there was a mix of demographics when it came to who was in the market to buy. Brian also queried about stock, because without houses and properties to sell they can't satisfy their list of buyers.
Brian asked about the auction process, as that seems to be the most popular method of selling property at the moment. Greg agreed and said Harcourts are experts in the auction arena and he talked about how auctions get the best price for sellers.
Rugby was another topic, with Harcourts Gold Star proud sponsors of the Gold FM Rugby Report, and also sponsoring The Chiefs. Greg said he managed to get about 30 of the team to a couple of games which was great, and he is pleased they had a great season.
The All Blacks also got a mention after a great game against Wales last weekend, with Greg impressed with the defense and also the ball skills in a high scoring game won by the AB's 54 - 16.
And the Harcourts Foundation came up too. Greg gave a background to it saying it's a way that Harcourts gives back to local communities, with a number of happy recipients like schools, clubs and organisations benefiting around this district. Since its inception The Harcourts Foundation has handed out almost $7 million around the country.

Hollie Weir has been involved with drama all her life and one of the first things she looked up when she moved to Waihi, and was delighted to find out, was they had a very strong, thriving theatre company full of incredible talent, so she was thrilled to join the Waihi Drama Society.
Brian Gentil asked Holly to talk about the All Together Now! musical theatre production that is being staged all over the world on the same weekend.
Holly told Brian about the music and performers who are local and coming from further afield to sing their hearts out to some of the best loved songs from My Fair Lady, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Les Miserables, Matilda, Hairspray, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia and more.
All ages and all talent levels are taking to the stage at 'The Theatre' on Boyd Road next Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and again on Sunday at the earlier time of 5 pm.
The tickets are just $15, which is a brilliant price for a night at your local theatre being treated to live music performances. Tickets for children under 16 are just $5.
Holly explained that there aren't as many tickets available for All Together Now! as the seating will be more spaced out than usual.
She reiterated that the talent in the Hauraki area is very deep and she's sure people who head to the show are going to be very impressed.
Brian commented how it's a win, win, win situation - the public win cause they get a great show, and how often have we managed to go out with COVID-19 over the last year and a half or so, you guys win, he told Holly, because you get back up on stage and you love doing that, then of course the disabled facilities get improved, which is another win because All Together Now is a fundraiser.
Holly said people can even sing along if they want as they would love it.
The best thing to do is get your tickets before they're all gone for just three performances, next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, by either going online to www.waihidramasociety.co.nz or buying them from Waihi Stationery.
Click play on our podcast link to hear the interview with Holly Weir who is looking forward to performing along with several other talented performers in a global event that will be being enjoyed all over the world at the same time.

Coromandel-Colville Councillor for the Thames-Coromandel District Council John Morrissey was enjoying the Coromandel morning sunshine and bird song when Brian Gentil spoke to him to ask what his Council's reaction to the big news late last week was when the government announced that participation in the Three Waters Reform proposals is now mandatory.
The decision to opt in or out of the reform programme is now off the table for all councils.
Councillor John Morrissey told Brian his Council is committed to working with their peers in local government and with central government to improve the reform proposals and clarify the details. "In our Council’s feedback to the government on its proposals that we submitted at the beginning of October, we raised a number of concerns, questions and discussion points that we still continue to see as an issue."
Councillor Morrissey told Brian water should remain in public ownership and water services infrastructure should remain in public ownership.
"The mechanism to assess water service requirements should reflect rateable household property numbers as opposed to normally resident population, as this latter figure under-represents the water service needs in our district and so far the proposals are controversial in the Coromandel and the feedback received from residents and ratepayers is to 'opt out'," Councillor Morrissey commented, adding, "the reform proposals should tie in with other significant local government reforms on the table."
"While participation is now being made mandatory, our Council and our community can still play a part in shaping this legislation. We encourage community members to continue to send feedback to central government about the Three Waters reform."
Councillor Morrissey said other public consultations and community engagements are on the go and Council is seeking feedback on their Local Alcohol Policy (where alcohol can be sold), whether the Mayor should sign the Local Government Climate Change Declaration, and seeking input into their Shoreline Management Plan project. Make sure to have your say.
This month TCDC also start the summer road resealing programme, so there will be many local streets around the district that could be temporarily or partly closed for maintenance.
Community Board meetings are being held this week and next with a range of local issues on the agendas, so there's plenty happening.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday focused on the Heartland Competition, the NPC and the All Blacks and Black Ferns games along with an invite to women to join the Thames Valley Vixens on Thursday afternoon; plenty to talk about with Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU.
Brian Gentil began with the Heartland Competition and the Thames Valley Swampfoxes home game at Boyd Park Te Aroha against neighbours King Country. Brian said they seemed to be competing with the All Blacks 50 plus with their win of 50 - 15 in front of a packed ground. Scott ran through the game, saying there were times the Swampfoxes couldn't get things right, but at the end of the day it was a good win and great to be able to put 50 on the board. Scott says this means they are into the Meads Cup final, we're just not sure of whether it will be an away game or not, depending on how things pan out with this weekend's games.
The NPC started with a win last Friday night to Canterbury over Tasman 24 - 20, and on Saturday Southland won by four points 37 - 33 against the Northland Taniwhas. It was the same scoreline when Waikato beat Bay of Plenty 37 - 33 in Tauranga, and Hawkes Bay were victors over home side Manawatu in their game. Scott talked about the highlights of the games.
Scott and Brian talked about the All Blacks game against Wales on Sunday morning with an outstanding performance by the man of the match Beauden Barret in his 100th test, including an intercept try at either end of the game. Scott ran through some of the players that stood out in a game that saw the ball being passed about in the second half as if it was on a string. Sevu Reece was involved in one try where he featured three times before he dotted down, a real team try. The AB's play Italy this Sunday morning.
The Black Ferns unfortunately lost to England 43 - 12 in their first outing in about two years. The victory was the Red Roses' biggest winning margin over the Black Ferns and their first win against New Zealand since 2017.
The Black Ferns continue their Northern Tour with a re-match against England next Monday in Northampton, followed by two games against France in France.
Scott and Brian touched on theBlack Ferns and the England women's rugby team wearing instrumented mouthguards that record data in training and in two matches between the two sides as part of a head impact study.
Scott ended with a request for women to head to Waihi Rugby grounds on Thursday if they'd like to be involved in the Heartland Vixens Women's Rugby team. He's really keen to coach the team and just wants the numbers to turn up on Thursday to gauge the interest. He said there wasn't going to be any major training, it was more of a get together to get things underway. Turn up for a start a 6.30 pm, even if you just want to find out more.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning began with Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas checking out the English Premier League results from across the weekend.
Manchester United got back on their winning way, thank 'goodness' said Rudy, with a 3 nil win over Tottenham, the same score that league leaders Chelsea managed with their win over Newcastle. And Brian and Rudy congratulated Ronald on the announcement he and his wife are adding to the four children they already have, with twins expected soon.
Liverpool were held to a 2 - 2 draw with Brighton, and Burnley recorded their first win of the season, beating Brentford 3 - 1 with the first goal scored by New Zealand forward Chris Wood. West Ham had a good win 4 - 1 over Aston Villa and Arsenal were 2 nil winners against Leicester City.
Rudy and Brian then checked out the midweek games being played in the UEFA Champions League, including Malmo at home to Chelsea, Manchester United traveling to play Atalanta, Juventus are up against Zenit, Liverpool have the home ground advantage when they come up against Atletico Madrid on Thursday morning and Sherriff at home against top side Inter Milan.
Rudy and Brian also talked about the All Whites next gam. After beating Caracao and Bahrain last month they come up against Gambia, the Scorpions, on Wednesday 16 November NZT in Abu Dhabi. Kick off is at 5 am and the New Zealand side will again select a squad without any New Zealand or Australia-based players due to the current Covid travel restrictions in place.
Rudy brought us up to speed with Steven Taylor from the Wellington Phoenix, who left about a month ago, who has announced his retirement from football. He was a big part of the Phoenix and will be missed. The Phoenix fly out in a chartered plane to Australia today Brian said, with the New Zealand Breakers basketball team sharing the plane as the teams get ready to settle into their Australian bases. The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning began with Brian Gentil asking Thames Valley RFU's Scott Day about the Heartland Competition home game for the Thames Valley Swampfoxes on Saturday. Scott said it should be a good game at Boyd Park against King Country. The game starts at 2 pm and Scott explained that it was open to the public, entry is $5 cash at the gate with under 18's getting in free, and to respect at least a metre distance between people. A mask is also necessary in certain areas so make sure you have one handy.
Brian and Scott also ran through the other Heartland games being played this weekend.
The NPC continues across this weekend and Scott and Brian ran through the games. Canterbury play Tasman away, Southland host the Taniwhas from Northland, Bay of Plenty are up against Waikato at Tauranga Domain, Manawatu are playing Ranfurly Shield holders Hawkes Bay and Otago battle it out with Wellington.
The conversation was all about the All Blacks next and their game against Wales this weekend. Scott is pleased to see Beauden Barrett at 10, especially as it's his 100th game for the AB's. He's the eleventh centurion for the All Blacks and will play a big part in the makeup of the game Scott says. He also ran through some of the other players chosen to take on the Welsh early on Sunday morning NZ time, just after 5 am.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning started with Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC looking at the English Premier League games coming up this weekend. Rudy is hoping Manchester United can turn around from their loss to Liverpool when they play Tottenham away, while Liverpool come up against Brighton, who go into the weekend on fifth place. Newcastle are at home against top of the table Chelsea, Burnley plays Brentford and Manchester City has the home ground advantage against Crystal Palace.
The Carabao Cup had some more games earlier this week which Rudy ran through, including Chelsea's win over Southampton, in a penalty shoot out, and Liverpool beat Preston 2 nil. Brian mentioned the number of draws, and Tottenham had a good win 1 - 0 against Burnley. Rudy and Brian talked about the fitness levels required with all the games expected of the players.
There are still some English sides in the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United playing more games midweek.
Brian and Rudy checked out the latest news on the Wellington Phoenix, with the Women's team naming three of their Australian based players as they gear up to play Western City Wanderers in their first ever game in the Women's A-League on December 3rd, and the Senior Men's side also preparing for the start to their season in mid November. Rudy also mentioned a young Hamilton man, George Ott, who has signed with the Phoenix, and his history through Hamilton Wanderers and the ranks.

Brian Gentil called Thames Councillor Sally Christie for a catch up after the long weekend.
Sally told Brian Labour weekend was a little quieter due to lock down in Auckland and Waikato.
Then she talked about today's council meeting and topics they'll be looking at ...
The government's vaccination programme
Easter Sunday shopping
Local alcohol policy review
Funding for information centres - a couple Sally said are changing from i-sites to info centres
The 6 yearly representation review
Sally and Brian also touched on council's stance on climate change, a Tairua skate park project update and TCDC's stance on the proposed 3 Waters reform.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, about the Heartland Competition, and in particular the Thames Valley Swampfoxes game against Horwhenua-Kapiti in Levin on Saturday. It was good news from Scott who said they had another good game with several stand out players, with a final score of 28 - 11.
That leaves them in second place behind South Canterbury, who they come up against in a couple of weekend's time at Boyd Park Te Aroha. Scott also mentioned their home game at Boyd Park this Saturday against King Country, with $5 entry, a licensed area and lot of great rugby you can watch while a metre away from the next Swampfox Supporter.
Brian and Scott ran through the other results in the Heartland Competition as well, with 3rd placed Whanganui losing to South Canterbury meaning there's an 8 point gap between them and Thames Valley now.
The NPC games included a postponement of the Bay of Plenty game against Northland in Tauranga, so team members and others could get to Sean Wainui's tangi in Gisborne on Sunday. Hawkes Bay holds on to the Ranfurly Shield over summer after their win over Waikato 41 - 14, while Otago fought back from 17-nil down to edge Canterbury 22-20 in a thrilling match on Friday night in Dunedin.
And the All Blacks were resounding winners against the USA on Sunday morning racking up 104 points to their 14, which were the first tries the USA has scored against the AB's. Scott said there was a lot to be pleased with and also some lapses of concentration in the second half that coach Ian Foster would be wanting to rectify as they prepare to play Wales this Sunday morning in Cardiff, with kick off at 5.15 am NZT.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Tuesday morning began with Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC talking about the Two Day Tournament Waihi hosted on Saturday and Sunday. Rudy ran through the changed format, with several teams not being able to travel with the covid restrictions in place affecting both Auckland and Waikato sides that usually take part. Rudy said it was a great two days and everyone enjoyed themselves, even with a bitter wind on Saturday and some showers on Sunday.
The English Premier League fixtures over the weekend saw Liverpool visit Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. And they came away with an emphatic 5 - 0 win that saw the Man U fans booing their team's manager and the players at half time, when they were already 4 nil down.
Brian and Rudy ran through some of the other results, including Chelsea's 7 nil win over Norwich City, Watford who beat Everton 5 - 2, Tottenham Hotspur going down away to West Ham 1 - 0 and Manchester City had a good win 2 - 0 over Burnley. Rudy and Brian ran through some of the games coming up this weekend as well.
Rudy touched on the annual Under 19's Tournament for boys and girls in Napier on the weekend, which went ahead without a lot of the teams. In fact there were just 13 boys and 8 girls teams involved rather than the 68 to 70 teams normally taking part, with the rest affected by the alert levels and travel restrictions, including Rudy's son Mason and his side the Hamilton Wanderers.
To end the report Brian and Rudy went back to the Waihi Two Day Labour Weekend Tournament for a few 'thank yous', and rightfully so, to those behind the scenes that helped make the tourny a great success.

It was a busy Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning. Brian Gentil and Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU started with an opportunity for women with some Sevens tournaments coming up in November. Scott gave some details and also contact information.
Scott and Brian touched on the tragic death of Sean Wainui early on Monday morning in Tauranga. He was a well respected player and there are a lot of people hurting with the news Scott said.
The Heartland Competition has another good lineup of games, with the Thames Valley Swampfoxes away in Levin playing Horowhenua-Kapiti. Scott and Brian also talked about their game next week in Te Aroha before running through the other games.
The NPC games continue this weekend with Scott picking a win for Otago who take on Canterbury, Taranaki are at home against Manawatu, Wellington play Southland in Porirua, Hawkes Bay put the Ranfurly Shield on the line when Waikato play them on Saturday night and Bay of Plenty and Northland are Sunday's game.
The All Blacks game against the United States of America on Sunday morning is creating a bit of interest, with Scott picking a score in the seventies for the AB's. There'll be some old faces back again alongside some fringe players who'll have an opportunity to shine. Then they're off to play Wales, Ireland, Italy and finally France.

Brian Gentil was pleased to welcome Sergeant Nigel Sanderson back into the Gold FM studio.
Waihi has a new Police Sergeant Officer In Charge, Waihi, which is where Nigel is now based.
Sergeant Sanderson has gone through the ranks, formerly working in Waihi and then promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Hamilton, where he worked predominately in front-line policing looking after a team responding to 111 calls with another Sergeant.
Brian asked Sergeant Sanderson whether he had seen changes. Unfortunately he has, and things have got worse.
One thing that has become a real issue in recent times is lock down fatigue Nigel told Brian. It has been very noticeable this time compared to the first lock down.
Nigel has been here in the new role for four days so far and is already planning for summer. A problem in Whangamata last summer means work is going into preparing to ensure there is no repeat this coming summer.
Sergeant Sanderson reminded people in the Coromandel to ensure anyone in restricted areas who might be thinking of venturing out of their alert level for the long weekend should stay where they are rather than visiting this area.
Brian asked about the territory covered locally. Nigel said while they cover Waihi Beach they also help cover for colleagues in Paeroa, Whangamata, Whitianga, wherever a hand is needed, they assist.
Brian asked what's been happening that shouldn't be happening locally that people should be reminded about. Sergeant Sanderson said there has been a spate of cars broken into around the Waihi Beach, Whangamata areas. Of about a dozen vehicles, every single one was unlocked. It's easy to be relaxed living where we do but if we make things harder for these guys it wouldn't happen, Sergeant Sanderson said.
Remembering to drive to the conditions this Labour Weekend, and don't drink and drive, was another important message.
Welcome back Sergeant Nigel Sanderson from Waihi Police! Click play to hear the full interview.
On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club about the club's Two Day Football Tournament this Saturday and Sunday at Waihi College. Rudy explained with the alert levels several teams couldn't get there but they have adjusted the draw and will lengthen the games a little. Rudy mentioned the great job Matty Matich has done with the grounds, above and beyond, and he thanked Alistair and Waihi College for the use of the fields and facilities. The public is more than welcome, get along for some good football action and there will be food and refreshments available as well. Games start around 9 am Saturday, and we think 10 am Sunday.
Rudy and Brian touched on the UEFA Europa Conference League with Tottenham losing just moments before the Football Report 1 nil against Vitesse.
Rudy and Brian talked about the UEFA Champions League with games played earlier in the week seeing Manchester United coming from 2 nil down to win 3 - 2, Liverpool winning 3 - 2 against Atletico Madrid, Chelsea beating Malmo 4 - 0 and a 5 nil win to Manchester City over Club Brugge. Rudy mentioned some of the games coming up which sees the sides swapping grounds.
The English Premier League has another great weekend of football and Rudy checked out some of the games, which could see him up early on Labour Day Monday to watch his favourite side Man U play Liverpool ... Brian might get up early for this one too knowing it's a day off. Everton plays Watford, Tottenham are up against West Ham while top of the table Chelsea are traveling away to play Newcastle, who go into the game sitting 19th on the table.
Brian and Rudy talked briefly about the A-League and the Wellington Phoenix with their season kicking off mid November. The team's taking shape but they look like they will have to make the move and base themselves in Australia again for at least the start of the season.

Brian Gentil spoke to Thames Councillor Sally Christie for a Coromandel catch up. They talked about how Aucklanders won't be able to visit the district this Labour Weekend. Sally said we'll all look forward to seeing everyone at Christmas.
Sally talked about how vaccination is really important to her and a crucial tool to eliminate Delta without overwhelming health services. She spent time down at the mall on Super Saturday. She mentioned the mandatory rules for jobs will get really serious when it's your job versus the jab... and the 1,000 operations that were cancelled in Auckland last week.
Brian asked Sally for an update on Council’s Shoreline Management Project.
The purpose of this Shoreline Management project is to help understand risks from climate change so that thriving and resilient communities and coastlines are maintained.
It’s a three-year project and is now over halfway through.
Four Coastal Panels (made up of people in the community along with technical experts) are working to define and reduce the coastal flooding and erosion risks to people, property and assets.
A digital tool is available online that summaries the risks in specific areas. You can access it on the project webpage www.tcdc.govt.nz/smp
The coastal panels have done a huge amount of work to understand those risks, and they’re now at the “what should we be doing” stage of the project.
Sally said, "We need the public to have input on what options are available".
With public meetings starting this weekend … Brian asked what will you get if you attend?
There’ll be explanations around the erosion and inundation risks to specific area of coastline, and discussion around what protection and management options are being considered for each particular stretch of coastline.
The options being considered range from soft solutions, such as dune restoration and wetland regeneration, to hard solutions, such as stop banks and rock walls or managed retreat.
Sally said how are issues that affect us all, and we need your input so please check for the meeting times and dates, as well as options to hear more if you can’t make it through online channels.
Visit www.tcdc.govt.nz/coastal for all the details.
Council is also seeking feedback on whether or not Council should approve the Mayor signing the Local Government Leaders’ Climate Change Declaration.
Sally explained the consultation period started last Friday and runs until 4 pm on Friday 12 November 2021.
In 2019 Council decided to not sign the Declaration, and we are reviewing this following a High Court Decision after a Judicial Review of Council’s position. It should be noted that feedback from the public consultation does not oblige the Mayor to sign.
Go to www.tcdc.govt.nz/haveyoursay to find out all the details on that one.
With Labour Weekend this weekend - remember it’s a long weekend so your kerbside collections are a day later next week.

There were six jobs covered in this week's Gold FM Fire Call Out. Brian Gentil spoke with Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens from Waihi Fire and Rescue, starting with a call last Tuesday October 12, at 11.10 pm to Kimberley Rd in Waihi where there was a garage fire. Moe said unfortunately the garage was gutted, and luckily it didn't spread to the house. No-one was injured.
Late on Thursday night, October 14, at 11 pm they were called out to assist with a medical situation.
On Saturday 16 October the team was at the Waihi RSA having their midyear Christmas Celebration when, as often happens when they have a function, the siren went off. They headed to Queens Head on State Highway 2 at 5.15 pm to a car crash. A car heading north into the Karangahake Gorge had rolled and ended up in a paddock, missing fences, gates and road barriers in the process, and very luckily Moe said. The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance, and the car is probably beyond repair.
Then at 10.30 pm on Saturday night Waihi Fire & Rescue received another call out, this time to the car park at Mitre 10 Waihi where someone had lit a cabbage tree. Firefighters managed to save the tree.
And at 7.30 am on Sunday morning, October 17, they were called to assist with a medical situation but got stood down before they left the station. Then at 9.15 am they were called again, to the same medical situation, and they helped with landing the rescue helicopter while there.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday started with Brian Gentil and Scott Day, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, talking about the Thames Valley Swampfoxes great win at Boyd Park on Saturday. Scott said it was a points fest with 87 points in the 80 minutes. The Swampfoxes were victorious, winning 57 - 35. Scott ran through the game and some of many of the standout players for the Valley side. Scott and Brian also ran through all the other Heartland Competition results.
The NPC games over the weekend featured a couple of surprise results, with Hawkes Bay winning against Canterbury in Christchurch for the first time in 53 years, 45 - 26. And Taranaki beat Waikato in Tauranga 33 - 26.
Scott and Brian also talked about the All Blacks game against the USA this Sunday and the return of some players, and Ian Foster will likely give some fringe players an opportunity to get some game time before they head off to play Wales, Italy, Ireland and France.
Brian and Scott commented on the announcement that Carlos Spencer was off to the United States as assistant coach next year for the New Orleans Gold - also known as Nola Gold - in Major League Rugby's eastern conference.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club about their prizegiving on Saturday. Rudy said they had a kick-around then a BBQ with families along before the prize-giving at 6 pm at Morgan Park. Rudy ran through the Reserves and Senior Side prize winners with awards including Golden Boot, Players' Player and Presidents Trophy to Most Consistent, Most Improved, the Fair Play Award and 'the Toilet Seat', which went to a player for an own goal this year. No, no names here on Gold FM, and congratulations to the club on a great season.
Brian and Rudy checked out the English Premier League action over the weekend with some interesting scores. After 8 rounds second placed Liverpool won 5 - 0 against Watford while Manchester United just couldn't 'get it together' Rudy said, going down 4 - 2 against Leicester City. Brentford lost 1 nil to Chelsea, who are top of the table, and Tottenham Hotspur had a good win over Newcastle 3 - 2. Everton lost to West Ham 1 - 0 and Manchester City is in third spot after their 2 - 0 win against Burnley.
Brian and Rudy checked out the Waihi AFC's Annual Two Day Labour Weekend Tournament and that it's on, and they'll know how many teams will be there after the government's announcement about COVID restrictions and whether Auckland will move down from Alert Level 3.
And Rudy said it will also make a difference to his son Mason Sas who is in the Hamilton Wanderers Under 19 squad that is supposed to be playing a major tournament with 68 teams in Napier this weekend. No doubt we'll have an update on these two events on Friday morning's Football Report.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, about the representative game that has had to be cancelled. Scott explained that with the Alert Level in Hamilton it meant they had to can the game between the Thames Valley Emerging Players and Taranaki U19 side in Hamilton on Saturday unfortunately.
Brian and Scott focused on the Heartland Competition with some great games lined up across this weekend. The undefeated Thames Valley Swampfoxes are in a top of the table clash with Mid Canterbury, and Scott explained how a win, or loss, will affect the table. This is a home game for the Swampfoxes being played at Boyd Park in Te Aroha and Scott mentioned tickets are available at their office in Paeroa for $5 and also at the gate. Scott reminded listeners about the 1 metre distancing and courtesy, and is hoping for a good crowd on Saturday with kick off at 2.05 pm. Scott and Brian ran through the other games across the weekend as well.
The NPC continues, without the Auckland sides taking part unfortunately due to the covid restrictions. There are still some great matchups this weekend, including Northland playing Otago at Rotorua International Stadium on Friday night. On Saturday Waikato take on Taranaki at their 'home ground' of Tauranga Domain and Canterbury host Hawkes Bay, with the Ranfurly Shield safely left on the shelf in Hawkes Bay for this away game for the Magpies. There are two more games on Sunday with Manawatu and Wellington meeting and Tasman hosting Bay of Plenty in Nelson.
Brian and Scott talked briefly about the All Blacks as they gear up for their clash next Sunday October 24 against the USA. There'll be a few extra players to choose from with Sam Cane, Sam Whitelock and other AB's joining the team on their tour in time to be picked for the team.
And then it was on to the tights or leggings that are now allowed for men to wear during games. Scott explained it's because in the northern hemisphere they play a lot on artificial turf which can cause grazes and also infections so wearing the leggings is more for protection than looks! Brian mentioned it also gives a sponsor or two an opportunity to claim another space, hopefully not but let's wait and see.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday started with good news, when Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about their annual two day tournament over Labour Weekend. Rudy explained it is going ahead in some form or another depending on whether Auckland teams can join them, and also Ngaruawahia, who are in Alert Level 3 Friday morning. They'll just do a draw to suit.
Brian asked about the club prizegiving which Rudy says is happening this Saturday with partners and family welcome. They'll start with a kickaround followed by a BBQ then on to the official prizegiving. We'll find out the recipients on Monday, including who got the toilet seat.
Rudy and Brian talked about the Nations League final played earlier in the week, with Rudy picking France would be too strong for Spain, winning 2 - 1.
The All Whites won two games in the last week against Caracao and Bahrain, and Rudy talked about Nico Kirwan, All Black legend John Kerwan's son, scoring the goal that gave them the 1 nil win after coming on in the second half.
And the Football Ferns got the best wishes from Rudy and Brian as they prepare for two games against Canada.
The World Cup Qualifiers were played across the week and Rudy and Brian checked out the results, and then looked at the English Premier League games coming up this weekend after a week off. There are some good matchups with players who have just represented their country back on the field for their club just a few days later.

Brian Gentil spoke to Thames Ward Councillor Robyn Sinclair to find out the latest about her Council’s Shoreline Management Plan project.
Robyn told Brian they have a major coastal management project underway to understand risks from climate change.
The project aims to ensure that we have thriving and resilient communities, Robyn said, providing more detail. We have four Coastal Panels who have done a huge amount of work to understand the risks to our shorelines. We’re now at the stage where we need the public to have input on what options are available for protecting our coastline and communities.
We also have a new digital tool to help you understand the risks in your specific area. You can access it on the project webpage www.tcdc.govt.nz/smp
Public meetings will be held in October, beginning the week of the 23rd, see the website for the details for your area.
This is your chance to understand and have input on which protection and management options may be the right ones for your area.
The meetings will be following Covid 19 guidelines which may limit numbers.
Brian asked Robyn if she had seen the figures on vaccination levels around the country that the Ministry of Health has released and if she knew how Thames-Coromandel District stands in its vaccination rates.
Figures from Waikato DHB show that Thames-Coromandel District has the highest rate of fully vaccinated people aged 12 and above – 58.5% - in the Waikato.
For the first dose 75.6% of the eligible people have been vaccinated, not quite the highest, but it’s up there, Robyn said.
That’s great news, but we’re hearing from epidemiologists that much higher numbers of people need to be vaccinated so that COVID-19 doesn’t spread and overwhelm our health system.
If you haven’t got your vaccinations organised yet, there’s a nationwide Super Saturday push to get vaccinated this weekend.
Clinics and vaccination centres will be open all day so just walk-in or drive through if that’s available where you are. Check other locations on the www.healthpoint.co.nz website, Robyn said. Her challenge for everybody is for the Thames-Coromandel District to have the highest vaccination and stay there. "Just do it."
The Gold FM Fire Call Out featured no jobs for the Waihi Fire and Rescue crew to attend, a first for a long time.
Chief Fire Officer can't remember the last time they didn't have to attend a fire, car crash, trees fallen over the road or a medical situation over a week's period. Moe said it worked out well as they all attended a one day refresher course with St John on Saturday, which ties in with the two day course they do every other two years. As Moe said it readies them for any of the situations they come across and keeps them up to date with techniques and the likes. When asked how many calls they usually do in a year Moe said this year they were about average with over 200 so far, and Brian worked out with Monday being the 284th day of the year they are 'on the job' more days than not.
Brian queried how the station renovations were going and Moe was pleased to report there has been progress with bricklayers there, windows going in and things are 'starting to come back together', as Moe put it. Brian asked about a completion date and Moe said they are hoping for January at this stage.
Brian mentioned the knowledge required to operate the latest fire engines needing constant updating as well, which Moe agreed with, remembering the old fire engines compared to the latest technology that the new engines have these days.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday began with Scott Day, Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, and Brian Gentil looking at the rep game last weekend with Thames Valley Under 18's playing King Country, on TV too Scott said. They lost at Owen Delaney Park 27 - 0, and are back on the field again on Friday with another against Northland, and the Emerging Players have a game on Saturday in Waihi on Saturday which Scott will talk more about on Friday.
Round 4 of the Heartland Competition was held over the weekend with the Thames Valley Swampfoxes heading to Greymouth to play West Coast. The final score was 27 - 8 to Thames Valley leaving them tied for first on 15 points with Mid Canterbury, who they meet at Boyd Park this Saturday. Scott mentioned if anyone wants tickets they will have to go to the TVRFU offices in Paeroa so they can make sure they have the necessary Covid 19 protocols in place. Scott said it would be great to see a good turnout of locals to support the Swampfoxes in this top of the table clash.
Brian and Scott ran through the results of the other Heartland games and then checked out the NPC games, sadly with no Auckland sides taking part anymore after the lockdown level 3 meant they couldn't travel out of Auckland, and teams couldn't go there either. Wellington beat Canterbury 35 - 30 on Friday night and Hawkes Bay were too strong for Tasman retaining the Ranfurly Shield at McLean Park in Napier winning 34 - 22 in a hard fought match.
Brian and Scott talked about Waikato women's win 22 - 20 in the final of the Farah Palmer Cup over Canterbury, a well deserved win after being behind at half time.
And there were some interesting games in the World Cup qualifying matches played over the weekend with Canada being knocked out of the 2023 France hosted competition after losing 33 - 24 to Chile. And Uruguay are through after beating the USA, who now meet Chile in a two legged tie next year to see who qualifies.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning started with Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas talking about the All Whites, who looked very smart in their all black strip, beating Curacao in a 'friendly' game on Sunday 2 - 1. Rudy said they have another game on Wednesday against Bahrain.
The UEFA Nations League Cup final was about to get underway during the Football Report and Rudy thought France would be too strong for Spain.
Rudy and Brian ran through some of the results of the games played in the UEFA World Cup European Qualifying results, with England winning 5 - 0 against Andorra, and they are back on the field again on Wednesday against Hungary, who lost 1 nil to Albania on Sunday.
Rudy mentioned how it can be tough on the players with two games in four days playing for their country and then heading back to their respective clubs to play next weekend in the English Premier League, which took a break for the internationals to be played. There are some good games coming up this weekend including Manchester United against Leicester City, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford host Chelsea and Liverpool and are away at Watford.
Brian and Rudy talked briefly about the Labour Weekend 2 Day Tournament that Waihi hosts each year, and that they will know more of the make up of the weekend after the government announcement on Tuesday about alert levels heading towards the 23 to 25 of October and how that may affect some of the teams that usually take part.

On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning Brian Gentil spoke with Scott Day, Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, starting with an update of a couple of rep games played in Waihi on Thursday afternoon. Both the Thames Valley Under 16 side and the Secondary School Girl Vixens played Bay of Plenty sides in testing weather Scott said.
Unfortunately the Emerging Players game against a Waikato side has had to be postponed with the Covid Alert level in Hamilton not allowing that game to go ahead right now.
The Thames Valley Under 18 team play the curtainraiser to the King Country game against Whanganui in Taupo on Saturday. They take on King Country with kick off at Owen Delaney Park at 2 pm.
Brian and Scott talked about the Heartland Competition starting with the Thames Valley Swampfoxes away game in Greymouth against Buller. Scott ran through the team and thinks they should do alright again this weekend, and hopefully maintain their second position on the table, or possibly go past South Canterbury if they lose to East Coast. The odds are against that happening with East Coast yet to rack up their first win, although they did put up 31 points last week so they know how to score.
Scott and Brian checked out the other Heartland games as well, including King Country, who haven't won a game yet this season, getting a helping hand from All Black Captain Sam Cane. He's switched to King Country for seven days before reverting to Bay of Plent, who have a bye this weekend, so he can get back on the field before rejoining the All Blacks for the game against the USA in a fortnight.
The NPC has changed due to the Auckland teams not being able to rejoin the competition with their current Covid Alert Level restrictions. Brian and Scott worked their way through the games on this weekend, with a beaut to kick things off on Friday night between hosts Wellington and Canterbury. Scott mentioned it will be great to see All Backs Dane Coles and Sam Whitelock on the field getting some game time. And the Ranfurly Shield is on the line on Saturday when the third placed Hawkes Bay Magpies take on Tasman, the Premiership leaders at the moment.
Brian and Scott wrapped up their report with a look at the All Blacks as they prepare in Australia to head off to play the USA in a fortnight's time, before travelling on to come up against Wales, Italy, Ireland and then France.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning began with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about the Labour Weekend two day tournament Waihi holds, and how the Covid Alert levels are affecting their plans.
Rudy also mentioned that the Waihi AFC prizegiving will happen but they are just not sure exactly when and will wait until an update on the Alert Levels next week before deciding.
Brian and Rudy talked about New Zealand's All Whites two friendly games coming up, and that Chris Wood looks like he'll be OK to captain the side in the absence of Winston Reid. They're up against Curaçao this Sunday at 5 am and then on Wednesday at 5 am they play Bahrain.
Brian got Rudy to give a little background to the World Cup and he also ran through some games coming up, including a couple of games for England within four days of each other, a fast turnaround for the players, let alone fronting up for their respective clubs for the English Premier League which comes back next weekend.
Rudy and Brian touched on some of the games coming up next weekend in round 8 of the EPL.
Brian asked what Hamilton Wanderers are doing, knowing that their regular season sees them travel to Auckland every second weekend, and with the lockdown that won't be happening. Rudy explained about a couple of tournaments coming up and how things would pan out dependent on the Alert Level restrictions at the time.

Brian Gentil spoke with Amir Yussof to find out more about a song he has just released. Amir has been staying home at Waikino and being creative due to the time he has on his hands with current COVID alert level restrictions.
Amir said he's been making music in his home studio since his B&B business is basically 100% down.
Brian asked Amir to explain about his background. Amir comes from Malaysia. His father is Malay, his mother is Swiss and Amir had a 25 year career in Malaysia, mostly in Kuala Lumpur as a singer songwriter. He made his way to New Zealand to be with his partner, who is from Borneo but came here for work.
Enjoying New Zealand and the lifestyle here encouraged Amir to stay but it meant he had to give up the musical career he once had, which has been challenging.
Brian asked Amir to describe his guitar, which is a guitar that we see but we don't see. Amir said his 'silent guitar' is an acoustic guitar that is probably more well known than he is. It is just a frame of a guitar that needs to be plugged in to get the sound.
Brian asked about the new single Amir has just released. He told Brian it wasn't inspiration, it was more of a purging and it was a song he started in 2013. It was originally inspired by environmental concerns Amir saw in Borneo and has become even more relevant for Amir in today's world. Called 'Feel It Comin', Brian described it as, " a cruisey groove with a message."
Amir has also made a video that includes the lyrics.
He said when asked if he's a half full or half empty kind of guy he answers that he is the kind of guy that knows he has a glass.
Feel It Comin' was recorded remotely with the trumpet player in Bali, the piano player is Liam Ryan (from the Narcs) in Waihi, and the bass player is from Australia with Amir from Waikino. The song was mixed by Amir's mate Mike Bloemandal in Auckland.
Amir said he hopes people like it, can take something from it and maybe it can even inspire other people to do the same.
Have a listen to the full interview and Feel It Comin' by Amir Yussof.
Brian Gentil welcomed Thames Councillor Sally Christie to his show to catch up with what's been happening in her district.
Sally said we need to stay out of Hamilton and keep within our boundaries and remember to practice good hygiene by washing our hands regularly and coughing into our elbow. She also talked about the importance of being vaccinated and said we all need to presume that people around us have got it.
Brian mentioned how so far there are no cases announced in the Coromandel. Let’s hope people can stick to the latest alert level restrictions in the north-western Waikato around Hamilton, Raglan and other communities, to keep this latest outbreak locked in place.
The government has released a map of the alert level 3 area, it’s on the www.covid19.govt.nz website but it begins just south of Pokeno and runs down to just south of Hamilton stopping short of Cambridge.
Brian asked Sally whether any Council staff or contractors affected by this?
There are some staff contractors likely affected by this. For the most part our Council staff can work remotely, so we’re well equipped now for lockdowns, Sally told Brian.
We can make sure that the essential services we deliver like water supply, roading and building consent processing continue. Like other organisations carrying out essential work, workers who MUST cross alert level boundaries need to have an essential worker’s letter. People should check with their employer about that. Or, delivery drivers, for example, can provide delivery dockets as evidence of the purpose of their travel.
All the information people need about the west Waikato alert level 3 area and the restrictions are on the government’s COVID-19 website.
TCDC’s annual Council magazine “Our Coromandel” is out now.
Sally explained that the digital version of the magazine is available now on Council's website at tcdc.govt.nz/ourcoro2021 and hard copies are being printed right now and should be out by mid-October.
She said copies will be posted to all ratepayers who don’t live in the district – many are in Auckland and it's hoped they’ll be able to visit their properties soon.
There will also be copies available at Council service desks, District Libraries and visitor centres for Coromandel residents to pick up – just before Labour Day long weekend.
Brian asked Sally about what’s in this year’s issue? Sally said,"We’ve got a big focus on the aquaculture industry, how much it contributes to our district and the infrastructure we’re building to support it. We’re also focusing on what’s being done to manage our oceans sustainably with kaitiakitanga principles, so we can still keep on doing things like the good old Kiwi pastime of recreational fishing. We’ve got updates on projects around the district, we look at government reforms, particularly the Three Waters proposals and the impact to our district. We’ve got features on local artists and artisanal food and beverage producers and we look at what some of our best and brightest young people are up to.
Sounds like a great read!
Sally and Brian talked about the toilet upgrades and roading works being done to cater for a lot of visitors as well as locals. They also touched on the Coromandel town bypass project being confirmed in the district's Long Term Plan.
Sally finished by saying, "Stay well everyone - look after each other; get vaccinated and support your friends in Auckland - ring them up."

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about an emotional day at Waihi College on Saturday with the end of an era ... Rudy has signed off as coach after his son Connor played his last game for the school. The association has been for almost ten years and has seen Rudy and Karen's other son Mason go through the ranks as well. Good on you Sas family! Take a well earned break. Brian reckons with the Sas family's love of footy we'll see them around for a long time to come.
Rudy gave us a run down of Waihi College's last game of the season, which they won 2 - 1 against Hamilton Boys High School Red. That was the last game as coach for Rudy so it was good to go out on a high. Rudy and Karen's son Connor is off to university next year and both he and older brother Mason went through the ranks at Waihi College.
Rudy and Brian then checked out the results of the Plate Cup Knock Out Competition games the Waihi senior sides played. The Waihi Reserves unfortunately lost 3 - 2 against Waikato Unicol Development in what Rudy said was a close game. And the Waihi Senior side also lost, 3 - 1 in their home game against Cambridge.
There's a meeting later this week about the two day tournament Waihi hosts over Labour Weekend with a few things now in the air with Hamilton going back to alert level 3, which may affect which teams can take part.
The English Premier League results were interesting with a lot of draws this weekend. Rudy and Brian checked out some of the results, including the 1 all draw between Liverpool and Manchester city, a 1 all draw between Manchester United and Everton, and nil all draws for Burnley and Norwich City as well as Brighton and Arsenal. Brentford had a good away win 2 - 1 over West Ham and Tottenham Hotspurs had a win at home against Aston Villa 2 - 1.
Rudy mentioned there is now a break for some international games with the EPL back the following weekend.
Brian wrapped the report up with a thanks on behalf of Waihi College for all the time and effort put in by Rudy over the years, and behind the scenes his wife Karen as well, and Rudy thanked some of those who have been a part of the scene over the time he's been involved.

The Gold FM Rugby Report in association with Harcourts Gold Star was busy with Thames Valley rep games firstly. Thames Valley RFU's Scott Day joined Brian Gentil with a run down of the Thames Valley Secondary School Girls, Under 16's, Under 18's and Emerging Players games this weekend. All the best to the local sides.
Brian and Scott talked about the Heartland Competition and in particular the Thames Valley Swampfoxes first home game. After a couple of good wins away they play Buller at Boyd Park in Te Aroha on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm, yes the earlier time is correct. Currently at the top of the table Thames Valley should go into the game as the favourites.
Scott and Brian also checked out the other games in the Heartland Competition.
The National Provincial Competition is hotting up although they are still without the three sides that are within the boundaries of Auckland and are affected by the Alert Level 3 lockdown protocols. Scott and Brian ran through the games with Waikato up against Wellington on Friday night looking to be great match up.
Brian and Scott looked at the last round of The Rugby Championship, with Scott running through a number of changes to the AB's line-up. He mentioned Richie Mo'unga returning this week off the bench, and the changes to the wings after a few missed high balls last week.
Can the All Blacks do the Grand Slam and win all six of their games?

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about the Waihi College First XI and their last game of the season. They're up against Hamilton Boys High School Red team on Saturday. Rudy said the Waihi side had finally softened and agreed to a 9.30 am kick off, even though the opposite wasn't offered when they asked earlier in the season and they had to leave at 6.30 am to get to their 8.30 am kick off on time. Great attitude Waihi and good luck!
Rudy and Brian talked about the two Waihi sides who are playing in the Plate Cup Knockout Competition this weekend. The Seniors are at home at 2 pm against Cambridge while the Reserves are travelling to play Waikato Unicol in Hamilton at 12.30 pm. All the best to both sides.
Rudy and Brian checked out the UEFA Champions League games played through the week with some interesting scores. They also mentioned Christiano Ronaldo, another record ... but not as Brian suggested for taking his shirt off in the fastest possible time after scoring ??
And there was a bit of talk about the English Premier League games after six rounds with Liverpool one point ahead of about five other teams. Rudy and Brian looked at some of the games coming up as well.

Brian Gentil spoke with Mercury Bay Councillor Tony Fox from the Thames-Coromandel District Council and asked him to give us an update on Council’s Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) project, which is about to enter a new phase.
Tony explained where they are up to and said they have four coastal panels representing the four areas around the district.
The SMP is a critical piece of work that aims to better understand the coastline and the environmental and climate changes that are affecting it. Council's very clear goal is to ensure thriving and resilient communities.
The SMP is a three-year project and is now well over halfway through. The four Coastal Panels have been working incredibly hard to define and reduce the coastal flooding and erosion risks to people, property and assets.
The Panels are made of people in the community, and technical experts, and have received and assessed a large amount of expert advice and data on the erosion and inundation risks to each specific area of our coastline.
There is an interactive map which summarises these risks available on TCDC's website: www.tcdc.govt.nz/smp
The options for risk management and coastal protection are being looked into. These include hard engineering solutions like stop banks and rock walls, as well as softer options such as dune restoration and wetland regeneration.
The panels are evaluating which sustainable defence measures may be appropriate for each area.
Some communities are at more immediate risk than others, and so public meetings to explain all the options being considered in each area will be held.
The public is encouraged to attend the meetings which are scheduled to begin on October 23. This includes in-person meetings and online.
Thames Coromandel District Council is also encouraging everyone to familiarise themselves with the work that’s been done to date, including the hazard and risk data that the SMP project has already released to the public, so meetings can be as productive and focused as possible www.tcdc.govt.nz/smp

Crime Prevention Message
Following on from last week’s advice about protecting your child from sexually motivated offending on social media an offender was arrested at Whitianga last Monday. The victim in this matter was a child. Luckily a nearby adult witnessed what was occurring and raised the alarm. Over previous years police have received similar complaints across the Coromandel. Police advice this week is to not leave young children unattended waiting in cars at supermarkets or other businesses. Predatory offenders are out there looking for opportunities like this. Don’t let your child become a victim and report all suspicious behaviour.

The Gold FM Fire Call Out this week featured four jobs the Waihi Fire and Rescue team attended.
Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens ran through the list, starting last Monday September 20 when the alarm went off at a Gilmour St residence. On arriving firefighters found the fire alarm had been set off by one of the residents vaping indoors.
There were three jobs to attend on Sunday September 26. The first was at 12.30 am, when Waihi Fire and Rescue were called out to assist with a medical situation.
The next call was at 6 pm after a car went off the road on McKinney Road, just off Pukekauri Rd on the outskirts of Waihi. Luckily no-one was injured.
Then at 11.45 pm on Sunday night another call out came in, this time to another medical situation and to assist with the landing of the rescue helicopter.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday morning had some interesting results, some high scores, a game or two that went the other way and an All Blacks win that was stop start and had some ball handling skills that went amiss.
Scott Day, Thames Valley RFU's Rugby Development Officer, joined Brian Gentil and covered the results of the Thames Valley representative games last weeknd with the Under 16's playing Corinthians, the Under 18's against the Harlequins and the Emerging Players playing the Whanganui Development side.
The Heartland Competition Round 2 games were an interesting mix of scorelines, and Scott and Brian ran through these starting with the Thames Valley Swampfoxes away win against East Coast in Ruatoria, 35 - 19.
The NPC continued without the Auckland sides again this weekend as they are still in Alert Level 3 lockdown. Scott and Brian ran through all the results, with some high scoring games and an upset or two as well. Waikato beat Tasman 39 - 22 while Hawkes Bay travelled to Wellington and won 31 - 28, their first win against Wellington in the capital for 44 years.
Brian and Scott focused on the All Blacks game against South Africa with their 19 - 17 win securing them the Rugby Championship for another year, with a week in hand. Scott and Brian both agreed it was a messy game that was stop start and full of handling errors, and Scott added he wasn't that keen on the Springboks kicking game off every ball. A win is a win at the end of the day Scott said.
The Australians also had another win over Argentina and will be vying for second spot in the Championship this coming weekend.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy what happened to Waihi College's game against Hamilton Boys High School last Saturday. Rudy explained the other side defaulted after sending a txt message the night before. Waihi College First XI have another game this weekend against Hamilton Boys High School Red with an early kick off of 8.30 am. Luckily this time it's a home game for Waihi so the opposition will have the early travelling to do.
Brian then asked what happened to Waihi AFC Reserves game last Saturday. Rudy again had to explain how their opposition, Claudelands Rovers Cuckoos, had also defaulted with not enough players available.
So Rudy said Waihi AFC quickly rang around all their players and got a shortened game going between the Waihi Reserves and Waihi College First XI in the morning, and then a game between the Waihi Senior A and Reserves in the afternoon. Rudy said it worked out well and helps keep the players fitness levels up with the season not over yet. It also give an opportunity for the college players to get to know the club and players, a bit of an introduction Rudy said.
Brian checked the table for the Waihi Reserves where it looks like they will move up into fifth on the table to end the season. Rudy confirmed that and said the club was really happy with the team's performance across the season, considering Waihi didn't field a reserve side for the last season or two.
The Knock Out Plate Cup games are on this weekend and Rudy will have more news on the Waihi Seniors game against Cambridge at home and Waihi Reserves away game against Waikato Unicol Development in Friday's report.
The English Premier League had some interesting results that weren't expected over the weekend with several of the top sides drawing or losing. Brian and Rudy ran through some of the games, including Liverpool's 3 all draw with Brentford, Manchester City's win against Chelsea 1 nil and Manchester United's 1 - 0 loss against Aston Villa. West Ham beat Leeds United 2 - 1 while Tottenham Hotspur went down 3 - 1 against Arsenal. That leaves Liverpool at the top of the table with one point between them and Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton.
Brian and Rudy ended with their thoughts on FIFA's idea of holding a biennial World Cup. Rudy thinks it's fine the way it is every four years, and with all the other commitments of the players and clubs he couldn't see how it could work. And there's also the mental health of the players to consider.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, Thames valley Rugby Development Officer, about the Thames Valley Girls Tournament last Wednesday in Tairua. Scott said it was a great day and it is pleasing to see so many girls getting involved in rugby around the region.
Brian got Scott to run through the Thames Valley representative games this weekend, with the Under 16's playing Corinthians at Hinuera RFC at 12.30 pm, the Under 18's at home in Waihi against Harlequins with kick off at 1 pm, and the Emerging Players are in Wanganui at Cooks Gardens for their game this weekend against a Wanganui Development side starting at 2 pm.
Brian got Scott to remind listeners that unfortunately these games will be played without spectators with the current Alert level restrictions.
Scott and Brian ran through the Heartland Competition games including the Thames Valley Swampfoxes who, after beating Wairarapa Bush last week, travel away again this weekend to play East Coast.
The NPC continues without the Auckland sides, and sadly Scott thinks it might be a case of 'too hard' to get the Auckland teams back into the competition with the current lockdown levels keeping them away from training let alone playing any games yet. There are some good lineups across the weekend including Tasman hosting Waikato and Southland and Canterbury, which Scott thinks might just go the way of the southerners.
Scott and Brian checked out the All Blacks team that comes up against South Africa in The Rugby Championship this weekend. It's the two teams 100th test and Ian Foster has come out with a strong line-up, and plenty of power of the bench for this one.
And Scott reckons Australia will be too strong for Argentina in the other match in The Rugby Championship game.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about the junior sessions coming up and the Waihi College First XI, who have a game or two to play but this weekend's game has been postponed going into the school holidays after their opposition asked for a 'raincheck' because they 'had some study to do'. Strange but true.
Brian got Rudy to run through the happy story of the Waihi Senior team's league win and then Rudy talked about Waihi Reserves game on Saturday. They play Claudelands Rovers Cuckoos at Waihi College with kick off at 2.45 pm. They'd love to see you and hear your positives from the sideline, so get along if you can to support them.
Rudy and Brian ran through some of the English Football League Cup results from the last few days, including Manchester United being knocked out, while Brentford, Arsenal and Brighton all had good wins.
Brian and Rudy talked about the English Premier League games coming up across the weekend. Watford host Newcastle, Manchester City plays away against Chelsea, Manchester United are up against Aston Villa, Arsenal have the home ground advantage against Tottenham Hotspurs while Brentford are at home against Liverpool.
Rudy also mentioned the Waihi two senior sides involvement in the Waikato Knockout Plate Competition with games next Saturday, October 2, for both sides. Waihi Seniors are at home against Cambridge at 2 pm and the Waihi Reserves travel to Hamilton for their game against Unicol United at 12.30 pm next Saturday.

Beware of your child’s social media and internet activity. Last week police received a complaint from concerned parents of a 12 year old who was communicating with a stranger on Snapchat. The stranger sent indecent images and offered payment if the child sent images of themselves back. Sadly offending of this nature is a common occurrence. Monitor your child’s use of social media, set clear boundaries and know who they are communicating with. Ensure privacy settings are closed to strangers.

Brian Gentil spoke with Mayor Sandra Goudie about yesterday's 4 pm announcement regarding Covid cases found in the Waikato Region and asked her "what’s the mood in your district?"
The Mayor told Brian staff that live in Auckland but work for her Council will be relieved that restrictions are easing off in Auckland – but they’ll still be working from home.
The area of Waikato with the three recent cases is moving to a "bespoke" Level 4, with a set of temporary restrictions which will be reviewed on Friday. This area spans from Miranda, Kaiaua and through to Mercer – and doesn’t take in the Thames-Coromandel District boundary. Good that these precautions are being taken.
Police will be managing the boundaries.
The rest of the country, including the Coromandel, remains at Level 2 with a slight easing of restrictions, with the allowance of a maximum of 100 people to gather, including at hospitality venues. This will be reviewed in 2 weeks’ time.
If you need a jab – you can do so at Thames Goldfields Mall as a walk-in. You don’t need an appointment.
And keep on with the contact tracing, mask wearing and physical distancing as we’re slowly stamping out this latest community cluster.
Meanwhile, Thames Coromandel District Council is still keeping on with business as usual with local community boards meeting this week.
Yesterday was Tairua-Paunaui where there was quite a bit of discussion on the skate park project for Tairua. Brian asked Mayor Sandra to tell us about that. She explained that a site at Cory Park Domain in Tairua was identified as the site for a skate park but legal proceedings forced a halt to the project.
In order to start with a clean slate, the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board agreed to revoke all previous decisions made in regards to the skate park.
A new timeline and process has now been approved along with some budget from the Board’s retained earnings, for an independent company with expertise in planning, consultation and project management, to lead the work.
Between now and the end of the year, a new project plan and community engagement process is being developed to identify and assess options for locating a skate park in Tairua. Formal consultation will be held early next year.
Brian suggested if you’re interested in finding more about that go to tcdc.govt.nz/skate
The Whangamata Community Board meets with Thames on Wednesday. These meetings are recorded and can be viewed online where you can also find out more about district news by visiting www.tcdc.govt.nz
Brian wrapped up by asking Mayor Sandra for a brief comment on Three Waters as it's creating quite a lot of public interest at the moment.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star started with Brian Gentil asking Thames Valley RFU's Scott Day about the representative games across the weekend. Scott ran through the results of the Thames Valley Under 16's game against Wairarapa Bush, the Secondary School Girls match against the Harlequins on Sunday, and the Under 18's who played Waikato Secondary Schools.
The focus went on the return of the Heartland Competition with a good win to Thames Valley. Scott was on the sideline in Masterton to watch the game against Wairarapa Bush, with the Swampfoxes proving too good, winning comfortably 42 - 10. Scott and Brian ran through the other games with Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury and Whanganui also scoring highly in their games.
The NPC had another great round, without the three Auckland Alert Level 4 affected sides and their opposition, and Brian and Scott focused on the results, including a controversial loss for Waikato against Canterbury with their final kick being rushed but no second attempt allowed by the referee.
Tasman was too strong for Northland and Hawkes Bay retained the Ranfurly Shield, in extra time, with a penalty in front of the uprights, to take the match against Bay of Plenty!
The Rugby Championship saw the All Blacks with another good win over the Pumas, although Argentina didn't give up and scored close to the end, with the final result 36 - 13. Scott was impressed with the roll out of players that Coach Ian Foster featured which gave a number of fringe players an opportunity to shine, and they did. There were some standout performances which will help with the extended tour in the Northern Hemisphere still to come, and it would only take an injury or another birth in the team ranks that sees a player or two out, and these other players will need to be ready to join the team.
Brian and Scott talked about the game between Australia and South Africa as well, which saw back to back wins for the Kangaroos, beating the Springboks comfortably 30 - 17, a bonus point win. There's not much to stop the All Blacks from winning the Rugby Championship now, although they'll be preparing for a backlash from South Africa over the next two weekends.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday September 20 was full of good news, if you support Manchester United, Liverpool, Waihi College First XI and the Waihi Association Football Club senior sides.
Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas about Waihi College and their early game in Hamilton against Hamilton Boys High School Silver on Saturday. Rudy was pleased with the 11 - 3 win, and wrapped his son Connor continued with scoring in every game this season. In fact he netted 5, well done Connor and the team.
Rudy and Brian touched on the junior football training sessions at Morgan Park for boys and girls aged between 4 and 14, confirming there are another couple of weeks to go if anyone wants to join them, start time is 9.30 am.
Brian and Rudy ran through the Waihi Senior Reserve game against Claudelands Rovers Cuckoos, which Waihi comfortably won 6 - 1. They have another match against the same side this coming weekend to end their regular season competition, this time at home at Waihi College.
The Waihi Senior side didn't have a game, but several of the players headed to Hamilton to watch the game between Northern United Humblebees, who could overtake Waihi if they won, and Claudelands Rovers Vets. Rudy said within a minute of the game starting the humblebees scored, but the rest of the game seemed to go the way of Claudelands Rovers Vets and they came away winners 3 - 1. This confirms Waihi as the league winners for 2021. Rudy mentioned their dedication, especially the coach Richard James and several players who had gone the extra mile through the season, and it all paid off. Congratulations.
The English Premier League saw Rudy up early on Monday morning to watch Manchester United beat West Ham 2 - 1, while Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3 nil. Rudy and Brian checked out the other results and looked at the table, where Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U are at the top with 13 points, followed on 12 by Brighton.

On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning Brian Gentil and Scott Day, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley RFU, checked out the representative games coming up across the weekend, with games for the Thames Valley Under 16's, Under 18's and the Secondary School Girls sides. Good luck to the local teams.
The Heartland Competition is back on, although under slightly different circumstances as Scott explained; all these games are being played without spectators to abide by the Alert Level 2 Covid-19 regulations.
The Thames Valley Swampfoxes take on Wairarapa Bush in Masterton and Scott says they go into the game as favourites with the TAB, but the home side won't be an easy beat. Scott and Brian ran through the other games as well.
The NPC games this weekend sees Waikato up against Canterbury as well as a Ranfurly Shield game on Sunday between holders Hawkes Bay and their neighbours Bay of Plenty. Scott thinks Hawkes Bay will be too strong and will hold on to the log of wood.
Brian and Scott checked out the All Blacks line up against the Pumas, with quite a few changes to the team. And Scott thinks South Africa will come back with a win over Australia after their loss last week, especially knowing that if they lose this weekend the All Blacks will have won the Rugby Championship, before the two sides have even met. That's got to be a big incentive so we can expect a good game from the Springboks.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning began with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas about the Waihi College First XI and some good news regarding the rest of their season.
Rudy and Brian then focused on the two Waihi Football Club's senior sides with the Senior A side not playing this weekend, but waiting to see the result of the game between the Northern United Humblebees and Claudelands Rovers Vets to find out if the Humblebees or Waihi wins the league for the season.
Rudy is heading over to Hamilton early with the Waihi College First XI as his son is in the side playing Hamilton Boys High School Silver. It will be an early start with an 8.30 am kick off! Then they'll stay on to watch the game between Claudelands Rovers Vets and the Humblebees.
His day isn't over as Rudy is going to watch the Waihi Senior Reserves game at the same park after that, which kicks off against Claudelands Rovers Cuckoos at 2.45 pm.
Brian and Rudy checked out the English Premier League results from through the week and looked at some of the games coming up across the weekend.
The UEFA Champions League is also on and Brian asked Rudy what happened to Rudy's favourite side, Man U. Rudy explained.
The Waihi senior sides are still involved in the Waikato Plate Cup Knockout Competition and Rudy brought us up to date with when this would resume.

Brian Gentil spoke with Thames Councillor Sally Christie from the Thames-Coromandel District Council to find out how a council meeting today is going to work at Level 2.
Sally told Brian they will be following the MOH guidelines – 2 metre distancing in the chamber, face masks, using contract tracing and suggesting people view the meeting online rather than turning up in person because of capacity in the chambers. Sally said Council will be posting the recordings through their communication channels. She's also looking forward to seeing a few more people In Real Life.
The meeting has a very big agenda with lots to discuss, including how TCDC will approach the government’s three water reforms proposals.
Brian mentioned that this proposal is reviewing how all council’s manage water, wastewater and storm water with the government looking at establishing several new entities around the country to manage the service ultimately taking the responsibility off councils. He asked what approach council is working towards?
Council’s objective is to ensure any local decisions that are required are made in the best interests of our communities, Sally told Brian. Our Councillors have conducted an initial review and tomorrow we’ll be working through a number of concerns, questions and discussion points that we have raised.
Some of the points include the appropriate mechanism to assess service provision requirements. Council thinks this should be rate-able household property numbers, rather than usually resident population. The usually resident population-based funding model is limited and misrepresents the real make-up of the district and the reality of the three water service delivery.
Sally explained that it’s being proposed for Thames Coromandel District Council to sit within the geographic boundary of Entity B – but Entity A is also an option. Council has no confirmed position but will request meetings with interested parties, including iwi and neighbouring districts to consider what makes the most sense for all partners.
Feedback for all councils is due by 1 October 2021. TCDC is collating public feedback to share with their elected members so anyone who wants to comment can email threewaters@tcdc.govt.nz.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day from the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union about junior rugby now we have dropped to Alert Level 2. Scott said unfortunately the changing levels has caused a lot of uncertainty so the powers that be have decided to cancel the rest of the season.
Brian asked Scott about the representative games on this week and he explained about the Thames Valley Under 16 Boys game against Wairarapa Bush in Masterton as well as the Thames Valley Secondary School Girls who play Waikato Harlequins this Sunday at St Paul's in Hamilton. Best of luck to both teams.
Scott and Brian had a good look at the All Blacks game on Sunday night against Argentina in the Rugby Championship, which they won convincingly 39 - 0. Scott was impressed with the lineup and thought some of the layers really stood out, including Centre Rieko Ioane, a late inclusion into the All Blacks and all three of the Barrett brothers. Brian mentioned Sevu Reece and his nippiness, which helped with his try when he dived under a bunch of four big Argentinian forwards to score in the second half.
And Scott had some interesting comments on the Australia game against South Africa, with the Kangaroos wining by two after a Quade Cooper penalty just before full time. Scott said the Springboks didn't seem to have their usual flair and were content putting some high balls up and seeing what came of them.
Scott and Brian also commented on Mark Ozich, the popular Hawkes Bay coach who has accepted a full-time role on the Western Force coaching roster for Super Rugby Pacific in 2022. Scott marked his successes with Hawkes Bay and says he thinks he do really well in Perth.
The focus then turned to the NPC which comes back this weekend with a new draw, and the Heartland Competition is also on starting this weekend. Thames Valley travels to Masterton to take on Wairarapa Bush in a revised draw. Scott explained how the two new draws would work.
And to wrap up Brian asked Scott about Hawkes Bay's chances of holding on to the Ranfurly Shield this Sunday when neighbours Bay of Plenty challenge them for it. Scott said it's always a good game but he doesn't think the Magpies will let go of the 'log of wood' too easily.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club about the junior and college football now we are down to Alert Level 2 with Covid-19. Unfortunately it's all finished Rudy said, although they are waiting to hear what happens with the First XI school games and Rudy will have more news on Friday about this.
Rudy brought us up to date with the Waihi Senior Reserve team and how their season has two games to go. This weekend they play away against Claudelands Cuckoos and the following weekend they have their last game of the season at home, another clash with Claudelands Cuckoos, a catch-up game that was postponed earlier in the season.
Meanwhile the Waihi Senior A side won by default after their game against Te Awamutu last weekend, their last of the season, was cancelled when the opposition said they couldn't field a team. So Waihi got three points, and so did the Northern United Humblebees as they were yet to play them as well.
The situation is that the Northern United Humblebees are two points behind Waihi, who are at the top of the table at the moment, but the Humblebees have a game in hand. They need to win to take over at the top from Waihi. A draw or loss against Claudelands Rovers Vets by the Humblebees will see Waihi win the season in their league. Fingers crossed the Claudelands side can draw or win this weekend.
Rudy and Brian talked about the Plate Cup Knockout Competition which Waihi is still involved in, and these games will be back on soon.
And Brian mentioned the annual Waihi Football Club's Labour Weekend Tournament, which Rudy will have more information on soon.
The English Premier League games across the weekend saw some great goals, and Rudy started with Christiano Ronaldo who scored two for Manchester United in their 4 - 1 win over Newcastle. Brian mentioned the other goals were pretty good too. Rudy and Brian ran through a lot of the results and looked at the table, where Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool are all on 10 points after 4 rounds, just one point ahead of Man City, Brighton and Tottenham.
Brian asked Rudy what he thought of the idea of holding the World Cup every two years rather than four. Rudy thinks from an up and coming players perspective it might make it easier to be seen, but can they sustain the hype every two years is the question that needs to be asked.
Brian and Rudy touched on the Champions League games coming up midweek and Brian asked Rudy about his son Mason, whose Hamilton Wanderers team wasn't having a game last weekend ... but did, a friendly against Ngaruawahia. They're waiting to see if Auckland will drop from Alert Level 4, as at the moment a lot of their games can't be played as the teams are based in the Auckland district.

On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning Brian asked Scott Day, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley RFU, if he'd been to a training with the Emerging Thames Valley squad since we came down to Covid-19 Alert Level 2. Unfortunately they found out on Thursday night there have been a few changes and they'll hear more about the representative sides in the next week or so about what will, and won't, happen this season.
Brian asked Scott about New Zealand Rugby (NZR) trialing a range of law variations in school and club rugby for juniors that kick in on January 1. Scott ran through some of the things they are looking at which include reducing tackle height, enhancing breakdown and scrums, and ensuring players remain grounded while contesting high balls, in a bid to reduce aerial collisions.
Scott brought us up to date with the NPC competition which is about to get up and running, with a few tweaks. And the Thames Valley Swampfoxes are looking at their first game being against Wairarapa Bush possibly - TBC, next weekend. The draw is still to be finalised so we'll have more on this on Monday morning's report with Scott.
And the Rugby Championship Competition came under the spotlight as well, with both Scott and Brian looking forward to the All Blacks taking on Argentina on Sunday night NZT. South Africa will be too strong for Australia Scott thinks, but never count them out, especially on home turf.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday started with an update from Rudy Sas on the local junior football scene now we are at Alert Level 2.
Unfortunately all junior football has finished for the season, including the junior coaching sessions at Morgan Park on Sundays.
Brian asked Rudy about the First XI football, which he said is back on, but Waihi College have their first game back next weekend.
Local senior football is back on with Rudy explaining what's happening with the Waihi AFC Senior Reserves who have two games against the same team yet to be played.
Brian and Rudy also talked about why the Waihi Senior A side won't get to play their last game of the season and are going to have to wait to see the result of a game the Northern United Humblebees will play to find out if Waihi or the Humblebees win the season. At the moment Waihi is at the top of the table with a 1 point lead but the Humblebees could take the title if they win.
Brian and Rudy looked at the Knockout Cup and Plate Competition that both Waihi sides are involved in which is back on again, but at the end of the season, and Rudy is still trying to get his head around that the semifinals and finals will be played preseason next year!?
The English Premier League is back after a short break with some great games this weekend. Rudy and Brian ran through some of the matches, including top of the table Tottenham Hotspurs visiting Crystal Palace and Rudy is keen to watch Watford take on Wolves. Brian mentioned he was going to have to channel surf as Rudy's favourite side, Manchester United, is playing at the same time against Newcastle. Other games include Brentford playing Brighton, Leicester City against Manchester City and Liverpool take on Leeds United.
Brian also asked Rudy about his son Mason and what was happening with his football season with Hamilton Wanderers now we are back at Alert Level 2.

Brian Gentil spoke to Mercury Bay Councillor Tony Fox to find out what Alert Level 2 means for the Thames Coromandel District Council.
The important thing to remember is that we are still at Level 3 until midnight tonight.
Level 2 kicks in after midnight Tuesday.
This time Level 2 is very different to the previous Level 2 last year because this delta variant is so virulent.
School is back on Thursday for the rest of the country at Level 2. (Apart from Auckland)
Face covering is mandatory in all public venues – libraries, shops etc
There’s a limit for 50 people for indoor gatherings and 100 people for outdoor spaces (outdoor venues) at Level 2
All gatherings must record and contact trace.
Social distancing and tracing must be adhered to at places like gyms, museums and libraries, in fact all public places including supermarkets.
Council will be putting out more specific details around council services.
Brian asked Tony about people’s behaviour around solid waste during the past few weeks.
During Level 3 and 4 waste has gone to landfill during lockdown L4 and L3 where recycling of plastics and fibre has been tipped.
Smart Environmental has been trying to recycle plastics and fibre from kerbside collections. However the contamination rates are very high under level 2 and likely to be started up again.
The key message is the need to reduce the level on contamination from the recycling bins. Collection drivers are seeing many of the recycling bins are contaminated with face masks, and sanitary products. As well as what looks like residents cleaning out their cupboards and garages with clothing etc. When a large number of contaminated recycling bins are collected the whole truck load of recycling becomes contaminated and the whole load is tipped to landfill.
This undermines the good work of those residents who have recycled responsibly and increases the costs to the rate payer.
Tony said if we take personal responsibility we all benefit. The majority of people do that it's just a few that don't.
MetService has issued a strong wind warning and is saying the Coromandel is in for S/SW gales from Wednesday through to the weekend. So make sure you lock everything down at home and take care if you’re out on the roads.
Remember to visit the council website tcdc.govt.nz to keep up to date with Alert Level 2 council services.
The Gold FM Fire Call Out went into double figures this week.
Moe Stevens, Chief Fire Officer at Waihi Fire and Rescue, and Brian covered the 10 calls they received, starting with last Monday, August 30, at 7 am. They didn't have to go anywhere; as happened last week it was another malfunction of their own system, caused by their renovations seeing some wiring open to the weather. Moe said that this has now been rectified.
Also last Monday, at 11 am they were called to a medical assist.
On Tuesday, 31 August, Waihi Fire & Rescue was called to another medical assist.
At 2.45 pm on Thursday afternoon, September 2, they responded to a motor vehicle crash south of Waihi when a car rolled just north of Tanners Point. Luckily no-one was injured. No other vehicles were involved Moe said.
And at 6.15 pm last Thursday they took their water tanker to a serious house fire at Pahoia.
Unfortunately the two story house was virtually gutted Moe said.
On Friday at 9.30 am they attended another medical assist.
At 5.30 pm on Saturday September 4 they responded to a fire alarm that had been set off at the Golden Cross on Rosemont Rd. The cause ended up to be some people who had been smoking in the building.
On Father's Day, Sunday 5 September, Waihi Fire & Rescue went to another medical assist.
And on Monday, 6 September, the siren went off at 1.20 am after an alarm went off at Bowentown Boating and Fishing Club. They checked the building before returning to the station.
Brian asked if there had been anyone fishing at that time of the morning, with Moe saying they hadn't seen anyone and it all appeared very quiet, as it should at that time of the night.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Monday September 6 started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, the Thames valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, about local rugby and the chance that the Swampfoxes will get to start their season in the middle of this month. Scott confirmed their opening game is now Saturday September 18, and if we get to Alert Level 2 there may be some other local rugby as well. Let's hope!
Scott then brought us up to date with a World Cup match qualifier played yesterday between Canada and the USA, with what some say is an upset after Canada won 34 - 21. So now the USA has to win the second leg by 13 points or more Scott said.
The Bledisloe Cup / Championship Competition game between the All Blacks and Australia in Perth on Sunday was a great game Brian said. Scott agreed, with some amazing tries. Jordy Barrett's sending off was discussed and the fact NZR is looking at challenging the red card. Brian mentioned Beauden would be rubbing it into his brothers that he's the only one of them who hasn't been sent off as an All Black.
The Ioane brothers, Reiko and Akira had outstanding games with Akira running like a back. Scott said he has a knack of fending off players and creating openings for the AB's that he seems to do with no effort.
The Championship is the focus for the next few weeks and Scott and Brian looked at this coming weekend's game between Argentina and the All Blacks, while Australia takes on the World Champion South African side. All this will take place in Queensland with three different venues for the All Black games.
Scott is hoping to have some more news on the local front in particular on Friday, once New Zealand knows what alert level we'll be at.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club what the situation will be for local football once we get down to Alert Level 2. Rudy is hoping we'll get to see the end of season games played but that's in the hands of NZF and WaiBoP. Brian mentioned that if the season ends now then Waihi's senior side will be the winners of their league, as they are currently at the top of the table.
Some World Cup qualifying games were played over the weekend and Rudy brought us up to date with those games, as well as some coming up soon.
Brian asked Rudy to explain the situation with Christiano Ronaldo and the number 7 jersey saga, something that has created sales of millions of dollars in merchandise for Manchester United.
Rudy ran through some fixtures that were being played as the Gold FM Football Report was on as well as some coming up in the World Cup.
Brian asked Rudy about the traditional Labour weekend two day Tournament and the likelihood of that happening. Rudy is pretty confident it will go ahead. The interest from the teams is there and it just depends on what alert level we are at.
To end the report Brain got an update on Rudy's son Mason, who is due to play in a big national under 19 tournament in Napier over Labour Weekend.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday September 3 started with Brian asking Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU about the fitness difference between training and game time, after the break that's happening. Scott said there's a big difference and it's something coaches will have to watch.
Brian asked when we might see some local rugby, with Scott hinting Saturday September 18 might, that's might be a date to remember. That's when the Thames Valley Swampfoxes could be back out on the field, but it will depend on the Alert Level we are at at that time.
Brian mentioned Marty Banks returning to Dunedin and playing for the Highlanders, with Scott saying he's going to add that something special to the side, especially as a fan favourite.
Brian and Scott talked about the move north for Josh Ioane, who's going to fill the gap left at the Chiefs when Damien McKenzie heads to Japan next season. and then Brian asked Scott about his thoughts on the Super Rugby Pacific competition in 2022. Scott's really looking forward to some great games, and the Australian sides might find it tough.
Scott and Brian talked about the All Blacks game on Sunday against Australia, with Scott saying with it being played in Perth in Australia, it might make a difference for the Aussies. And he said he'd like top see James O'Connor and Quade Cooper come back to fill an injury slot or two, which wold make for some exciting rugby.
And there's plenty more top rugby on the way with Brian and Scott mentioning the Championship games on the way against Argentina and South Africa, before the All Blacks continue on tour to play the USA, Italy, Wales and more.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday began with an update on local football, well any football in New Zealand. Rudy Sas told Brian Gentil that until we get down to Alert Level 2 there won't be any games played, and with Auckland still in Alert Level 4 for a while it may be the end of the season for their season!
There's a gap in play with the English Premier League and other competitions with an International Window at the moment.
Rudy and Brian talked about Christiano Ronaldo and his new record of most goals scored by a professional male player, set yesterday when he played for Portugal and scored two fantastic headers, after missing from the penalty spot, in their win over Ireland.
Brian added that after taking his shirt off in celebration, which is a no no, he got yet another yellow card. Rudy explained that with an accumulation of about five yellow cards the player misses the next game, which is the situation with Ronaldo.
Rudy ran through some of the other games coming up.
Brian talked about the new coach for the Football Ferns, replacing Tom Sermanni, who stepped down after the Tokyo Olympics. Former age-group coach Jitka Klimkova from the Czech Republic will take the Football Ferns through to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. She has a bit of history with New Zealand women's football and should be a good fit Brian said.
Brian and Rudy also told us about a player who played two games in two countries in one day, one game was for his country, Wales, the other for his club, Bayer Munich. And his teams won their games!

Brian Gentil spoke to Thames Councillor and Chair of her district's Emergency Management Committee Sally Christie this morning for an update on what's been happening to prepare for a move to Alert Level 3 from 11.59 tonight. We are still in Alert Level 4 until then, and we need to stick to the rules.
Sally told Brian her role involves supporting services that need to be provided along with emergency services.
There are not too many changes between level 4 and 3, but it's not business as usual yet, Sally stressed. It will be great to see takeaways, cafes and restaurants being able to provide deliveries and non contact service ... and other businesses like builders being able to go back to work, abiding by the restrictions in place for that Alert Level.
Sally talked about people needing to get from one district to another, like Waikato Hospital, and the importance of following the process so they can get there without being turned around as there will be checkpoints between districts. You will need an exemption to travel so make sure you have the necessary paperwork with you if you have to attend hospital appointments.
"No going round to your mates for a bbq," Sally said. Coromandel escaped a potential outbreak of COVID, which was very well done by the community.
Council is now working to plan what services may be able to resume, and which staff may be able to return to work where it is considered safe. We will provide a detailed update on this work tomorrow, along with updated information on solid waste and Refuse Transfer Station hours, Sally told Brian.
If you need any support for your wellbeing, for example you’ve been to a place of interest in relation to the outbreak and are self-isolating at home and need essential supplies, please call the Ministry of Social Development helpline 0800 559 009 or visit their website www.msd.govt.nz/

The Gold FM Fire Call Out on Monday August 30 covered the four calls Waihi Fire and Rescue attended over the last week.
Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens and Brian Gentil went back to last Wednesday August 25 when the siren went off at 11.30 am. Moe said Waihi Fire & Rescue attended a small rubbish fire in Toomey St that had been called in. He said it was under control so they headed back to the station. Brian asked if their head office had indicated they'd prefer no open fires during lockdown, which Moe confirmed, while also saying this is probably the time of year people tend to burn their cuttings, trimmings and rubbish so they expect the occasional call.
The next job they were called out to was on Thursday August 26. Their water tanker was required to help Katikati Fire and Rescue with a grove of bamboo that had caught alight just north of Katikati on Rea's Rd. Moe said there was only a small amount of damage luckily.
The next calls were at 10.30 pm on Sunday 29 August, and again on Monday morning August 30 at 7 am. Moe explained that their head office is receiving signals from their system, which is currently in the midst of the major station upgrade, so it's sending false signals. They were hoping technicians expected on site today might be able to solve this issue.
Brian mentioned the generosity of employers of the 22 local volunteers, who often down tools and head off to crashes, medical situations and fires at a moments notice. Moe said Waihi is very lucky with such a positive attitude regarding the fire and rescue volunteers from employers across the board, and that support is really appreciated.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day how he was feeling after a long run yesterday, and the answer was 'a bit sore'.
Scott, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, is playing in the Thames Valley Emerging Players squad and is working on some fitness as he looks forward to getting on to the field once the alert Level has dropped enough.
Brian asked Scott when we might see some local games and rugby in general around New Zealand. Scott said with Alert Level 3 there isn't a lot of change but when Alert Level 2 kicks in we will hopefully see some local rugby, including the Thames Valley Swamp Foxes. Scott said don't quote him but if things go to plan they could be travelling down to his old stomping ground in Masterton to play Wairarapa Bush on Saturday September 11. No promises though he said. We'll hold you to that Scott!!
Brian and Scott talked about Ardie Savea being named the All Blacks Captain, with newly named vice-captains Brodie Retallick and Beauden Barrett helping out.
Ian Foster has been in talks with Roger Tuivasa-Scheck just before the All Blacks left for Perth last week, not about joining them, but what it is like to be on the road for 2 to 3 months. Roger has had experience and shared some advice on the highs and lows.
And Brian mentioned the Crusaders have signed former All Black halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi on a one-year deal. Scott reckons this is a good move for Te Toiroa, as well as the Crusaders.

The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club if he had an early start today, with his favourite team playing at 3 o'clock this morning. The answer was yes, and Rudy also said how nice it is at the moment with the early morning sounds being birds rather than traffic and industry while we are at Alert Level 4.
Brian and Rudy looked at the latest news from Waikato Secondary school Football Association and New Zealand Football, with no play as yet, even at Alert Level 3 Rudy said.
The results from the games played over the weekend in the English Premier League were next. Manchester United won, with a goal in the 80th minute Rudy said, against Wolves, or Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rudy said there were a lot of draws, and he wasn't wrong, with Liverpool drawing 1 all, the same as Burnley and Leeds, and Aston Villa and Brentford.
It was 2 - 2 between West Ham and Crystal Palace as well as Newcastle and Southampton. Manchester City had an awesome result against a 10-man Arsenal winning 5 - 0.
And our previous football reporter Brent Willoughby rang Brian Gentil just before the Football Report to mention his favourite side Tottenham Hotspurs was top of the table after their 1 nil win at home against Watford. We got the message Brent, and your other favourite team 'Brent'ford didn't do too badly either!
Rudy has obviously had some downtime with the lockdown and came out with an interesting fact ... the quickest goal known to have been scored in professional football is ...?

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning began with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, the Rugby Development Officer with the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, if he'd watched the Wheel Blacks game against Great Britain last night in the wheelchair rugby at the Paralympics. Scott had heard how tough and physical the game is and while he missed last night's game he's definitely going to catch their next game.
The All Blacks are on their way to Australia, and Perth, to get ready to play the Kangaroos next Sunday 5 September. This is the third Bledisloe Cup game and also is part of The Championship Competition. From there the All Blacks move to Queensland to play South Africa and Argentina in the same competition.
Brian and Scott talked about the re-signing of Brad Weber with the Chiefs, and his inclusion in an AB's touring side that is without several of their senior players. This is due to some injuries and also Sam Whitelock, Richie Mo'unga and Aaron Smith are all expecting additions to their families so won't travel until after their happy events.
Scott said he's excited with the end of year tour as well. With no gap to come home before they head to Europe, the All Blacks will possibly be away on tour for around 14 weeks. Scott would love to see them play England, but is still happy with games against Wales, Ireland, France and Italy.
Brian mentioned the Thames Valley Swampfoxes signing of Todd Doolan and Scott ran through his credentials and said it was pleasing to see him joining the team.
Scott also mentioned that local rugby around the country is a little way off yet with no games allowed until we get down to Alert Level 2 or less. We'll keep you posted.

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday August 27 Brian Gentil mentioned that there's obviously no local football on with our Alert Level 4 lockdown situation, and he asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club how this was affecting his son Mason's club, Hamilton Wanderers.
As they play Auckland sides week in week out, and Auckland is likely to stay in lockdown longer than the rest of New Zealand, Rudy said the teams aren't sure what will happen, whether they'll postpone the games or can them completely. He said it will depend on how long the lockdown in Auckland lasts.
Brian and Rudy talked about Pep Guardiola who's likely to leave Manchester City when his contract finishes in 2023, saying he wants to take a break and then look at coaching a national team.
Harry Kane is staying put with Tottenham Hotspurs, and Rudy mentioned how much was being talked about if he had transferred!
Brian and Rudy talked about Fifa saying the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga should release players for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month.
And the English Premier League is into week three with some great matchups again this weekend. Rudy and Brian ran through some of the games including Manchester City playing Arsenal, top of the table West Ham coming up against Crystal Palace, Rudy's favourite side Manchester United travelling away to play Wolves while 3rd plays 2nd with Liverpool at home against Chelsea.
There'll be lots to talk about on Monday morning at 7.35 am when Brian and Rudy check out the results and any other football news.

On the Gold FM School Report Brian Gentil asked Alistair Cochrane, Principal of Waihi College, how the handing out of hard copies, devices and the like to students had gone over the last few days. Alistair said they'd had over a hundred go out and if anyone had not heard from or been in touch with the school he will be there until early this afternoon. You're asked to call to arrange a suitable time to pick up what you need on 07 863 8349.
Brian asked if NCEA exam dates were being looked at like last year. At this stage they are still looking at different scenarios depending on the length and level of lockdown Alistair said.
Brian wondered whether it might be the midyear exams coming into play which Alistair said could well be the case. These exams haven't happened yet at Waihi College but other high schools and colleges could well have had theirs already so not only do they give you a guide as to how you are doing, but they may be used at the end of the year if exams are impractical to hold.
Alistair gave some advice about learning techniques from home, saying routines are important and to mix up your time studying and also family time.
Brian asked about people using the school grounds for exercise or play, which Alistair said was not allowed but had been happening a bit recently. School grounds are like council playgrounds and off limits at Alert Level 4 lockdown.

The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star this week started with Brian Gentil asking Scott Day, Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, how things were as a Thames Valley Emerging Player with no games at the moment. Scott said he's running each day and going through a fitness programme but is looking forward to getting back on the field.
Scott mentioned there were no games of rugby nationwide again this weekend, but it's for the greater cause. He said it really couldn't come at a worse time of year with the Heartland Competition delayed, representative rugby on hold and an upcoming tournament or two being affected as well at this stage.
Brian said at least the 'on then off and now on again' Rugby Championship is able to be played, with the third Bledisloe Cup and second Championship game between Australia and the All Blacks now set down for Saturday September 4 in Perth. Scott said he's really pleased as with the lockdown on, there are a lot of people who'd love to see some good games of rugby. He's looking forward to watching the rest of The Championship games which will now be played in Queensland, once South Africa and Argentina get out of isolation.
