The idea of beauty is always shifting and shaping to current trends depending on which part of the world you live in.  Today we're going to be talking about booty standards... oh oops, I meant BEAUTY STANDARDS! Nah but seriously, the amount of times we said booty in this episode is IMpeccable. Beauty Standards In episode 7, we touch on East-Asian beauty standards that we grew up hearing, and Coastal Australian beauty standards that we grew up seeing. We talk about how we balanced the two beauty standards and how we tried to achieve Australian beauty standards when we were younger. That meant loads of fake tan and box-dye.  We also delve into ways of how we personally started to leave beauty standards behind and just be ourselves, whether that incorporated aspects from one beauty trend or another.  ENJOYYYYY! 🌟

Recently we have started to see a rise in Asian representation in Hollywood and Western Media.  Crazy Rich Asians did a ting for us becoming the highest grossing romantic comedy of the decade.  The Farewell, The Half of It and Never Have I Ever shed light on Asian matters in a contemporary lens, while Ali Wong's Always Be My Maybe and Hasan Minhaj's Patriot Act made us laugh till the cows came home.   However, Asian Representation wasn't always like this.  From stereotypical characters to characters that didn't serve a large purpose in films, today we talk about the Asian representation we saw in the media while we were growing up.  We also delve into the other avenues that we consumed Asian media from when there wasn't enough in everyday TV and movies. Hope you enjoy this episode! Feel free to DM us at @sideofricepodcast on Instagram or message us on Facebook if you related to anything we talked about in this episode, or if you just wanna chat!

Hey Hey! Welcome to A Side of Rice podcast! This week we talk about our childhoods, where we were born and our journeys to Australia as well as the adaptation that had to come with it. Like a lot of children who grew up in Australia with immigrant parents, we sometimes had to adopt a third culture - a crossover between our heritage cultures and the culture we found ourselves in at school and among our friends. We delve into what rules we had at home, school stories and languages we speak.  There may even be a little sample of us speaking said languages at the end of the episode...  Hope you enjoy this episode! Feel free to DM us at @sideofricepodcast on Instagram or message us on Facebook if you related to anything said in today's episode, or if you just wanna chat!
