Billy McGuinness from Aslan joins More than 90 Minutes Editor, Andrew Milne on the Celtic Soul Podcast. Billy gives an update on Christy Dignam and Aslan’s plans. While looking back at the bands highs and lows over the past 40 years.

Back in 80’s Ireland was a great place for music as record companies searched for the next U2. Unemployment was high as young adults were forced to emigrate these shores and both Billy and Andrew look back with fond memories at the 1980’s Irish Music Scene and iconic venues like the Baggot Inn, Dublin and the Boxing Club in Drogheda.

Aslan’s rise and fall and rise again are discussed and Billy also takes us down memory lane to his young days at school and serving his time as a baker. Its amazing how buns from the bakery played a part in Billy getting into the band.

The band are no strangers to Glasgow having played the famous Barrowlands and the Classic Grand. They attended the Celtic Player of the Year awards after the game v the Rangers last season. They also supported Glasgow’s Gerry Cinnamon in Malahide Castle in the Summer opening up a new audience for the band.

More than 90 Minutes Editor, Andrew Milne welcomes back Matt McGlone, Editor of the Alternative View for a catch up on Talk from the Terrace show on the Celtic Soul Podcast. The Bhoys look back on Sundays Glasgow Derby v the Rangers.

Celtic shared the points on the day to keep their 6 points-gap from their nearest rivals with 3 games to go and a healthy goal difference of 19 as we go into Saturday’s game against Hearts at Celtic Park in another lunchtime kick off which the Bhoys preview.

The Japanese factor is discussed and the rotation of Rogic and O’Reilly and the differences offered by Kyogo and Giakoumakis leading the Celtic line.

Hearts have secured their place in Europe and are guaranteed third place which would have been their target at the start of the campaign, and they have a Cup Final to look forward to. Maybe they will have one eye on the Cup but for us it’s all about the Celtic because the title has still to be won.

The Rangers will play Sunday at 3pm against Dundee United at Ibrox. The visitors have a European place to battle for with Ross County and Motherwell so should be well up for the game.

Mark Lawell has been announced as Head of Scouting and Recruitment this week and the bhoys discuss his arrival and Ange Postecoglou’s reaction to his latest recruit who he has worked closely with before.

The bhoys also discuss the pro and cons of Celtic fans at Ibrox and the FC Statement fans at Celtic Park. As the transfer window approaches, Matt looks back in time to the transfers of Davie Hay, Kenny Dalglish, Kieran Tierney, and the departure of Henrik Larrson to Barcelona.

Simon Donnelly needs no introduction to Celtic fans and he joins Milish for a chat on the Celtic Soul Podcast as the bhoys preview this Sunday’s big game when Celtic take on the rangers at Celtic Park.

Both bhoys will be inside Celtic Park for kick off . Simon will be on media duties with Celtic TV and Milish will be watching with his mates from the main stand.

During the conversation Simon draws comparisons with the team that stopped Rangers winning 10IAR and the current Celtic team. Both Wim Jansen and Ange Postecoglou arrived at Celtic Park from Japan with little known about them in coaching terms, both had to bring plenty of new blood into the squads.

In 1997 iconic manager Tommy Burns left and Captain Paul McStay retired after failing to stop Rangers doing 9IAR. Both are Celtic Legends and are still very much in the hearts of all Celtic fans who witnessed their loyalty and love of Celtic

Another pair of Celtic Legends Neil Lennon and Scott Brown both moved on after failing to win the 10IAR last season. Like Wim, Ange introduced a new captain with a history at the club and brought in his own players and is now in the driving seat to repeat the double won by Wim Jansen and his all conquering team who stopped the 10.

Some of the players Wim introduced included player of year Craig Burley, Champions League winner, Paul Lambert, Marc Rieper and the Magnificent 7, Henrik Larsson who Simon played upfront with and he shares how that partnership came about.

Earlier in the season we witnessed a great partnership forming between Jota and Kyogo. injuries put a stop to that partnership during the season but just as we enter the business end of the season it seems that the duo are ready to rekindle that perfect partnership.

As we entered the business end of the season after the SPFL split Celtic travelled for a tough game to Dingwall where they were kicked from pillar to post by the home side’s hatchet men but the cream of the crop always rises to the top and on the day it was Jota and his perfect pass into the box saw Kyogo lose his markers and rise high into the air to head the ball home to give Celtic a 1-0 lead.

Jota picked up a man of the match award for his performance, but honorable mentions must go to Tony Ralston and Greg Taylor both full backs put in full shifts again, both players have improved under Ange Postecoglou and let’s hope that form continues when the Rangers come to Celtic Park on Sunday.

The disappointment of the cup semifinal exit at Hampden will be banished if we can wrap up the title and take home the SPFL trophy. Revenge is best served on a Sunday lunchtime. Role on Sunday.

More than 90 Minutes Editor, Andrew Milne joins Ange Postecoglou and Joe Hart at the media conference ahead of Ross County away. The manager chats about the importance of the league game and the 3 points up for grabs ahead of his first cup final on Sunday.

He also touches on the growing injury list and the recent Europa Conference League draw and the trip next year to Norway. Public health and Covid questions are asked and answered including the importance of having Celtic supporters in stadiums.

Andrew asks Ange about the squad players who came in against Betis and if they are now ready to step up if called upon before the January transfer window and the importance of B team players being ready when they are called up to the first team and the importance of the B team playing the same system and training at the same intensity as the first team.

Joe Hart chats about the games coming thick and fast and the focus of the team on the Ross County game. Andrew asks Joe about the unity between the manager, the players and the fans and also the heavy schedule and the lack of recovery time between games.

It's refreshing to hear Joe put any talk of the next European game aside with it being so far away to concentrate on the present rather than the future.

More than 90 Minutes Editor, Andrew Milne is joined on this Episode of Talk from the Terrace Podcast by Bhoys Ultras Ross and James to chat about why Bernard Higgins should not be employed by Celtic Football Club after his role in dawn raids on Celtic supporters homes during the campaign against the OBA.

They also discuss how the news was leaked about Higgins new role at Celtic Park and why they are part of the protests against him becoming an employee of Celtic as the campaign grows among Celtic fans from all corners of the World and all walks of life.

The Bhoys like so many fans hope that the club can enter into constructive dialogue with Celtic supporters representatives at a time when the Manager, Players and Fans are together but the feeling is the board are disconnected more than ever with the average fan on the street.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 100. More than 90 Minutes Editor Andrew Milne is joined by Celtic historian and author David Potter to chat about the life of Celtic Legend Bertie Auld who sadly passed away recently and was giving a fitting send off by the Celtic family.

Bertie Auld will be remembered fondly by Celtic fans as a true Celtic Legend, a Lisbon Lion, a Celtic Fan and a great character.

David recalls the many times he watched Bertie and his midfield partner Bobby Murdoch in action for Celtic and he has no hesitation in stating that they were the best midfield partnership ever to play for Celtic.

Off the pitch Bertie attended supporters’ functions around the World and was always happy on match day to sign autographs, pose for pictures and chat to Celtic fans.

Bertie sat behind Andrew for a number of seasons in the main stand and he recalls Bertie kicking every ball and loving the tribute on 67 minutes to the great team he played with who conquered Europe.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 80 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Jonathan Gould about Life, Celtic, Football and his experiences with new Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou

Jonathan Gould is a former Celtic goalkeeper. Gouldy will be remembered as the unsung hero who came from 3rd choice goalkeeper at Bradford to Celtic first choice stopper in the 1997/98 season when Celtic stopped Rangers doing 101AR and he only conceded 24 goals during that roller coaster campaign under Wim Jansen.

He also won a treble with Martin O’Neill and a League Cup under Kenny Dalglish and Tommy Burns to add to his first League Cup he won in his first season and went to the World Cup with Scotland in an amazing career from Non-League Football to 60,000 at Celtic Park.

He served under 5 managers at Celtic including John Barnes and was the goalkeeper during that infamous night against ICT and he knows a thing or two about our new manager Ange Postecoglou who he came against during his time coaching in Australia where he always came off second best against Ange’s invisible team.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 77 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Declan McLaughlin about life, music, politics and his hometown of Derry.

Declan is a singer/songwriter from Derry, home now is the Bogside but he spent many years touring America with his band The Whole Tribes Sings. His music is influenced on what he has seen going on around him in Derry and on his travels. His music has brought him around the World from Libya to Liverpool and from New York to Newry and beyond.

Not a football fan yet he relates to the Celtic not the players or the manager but the Fan Base because of the community it represents and the actions, politics and social conscious of many of the Celtic Support and he talks about his experience of going to watch a Celtic game at 7am at a packed Irish pub in New York when the rest of the city was only waking up.

Declan is proud of his home town and that shines through out the conversation and in his music. Declan can claim heavyweights of Irish music including Christy Moore and Damien Dempsey as fans and he can’t wait to get back to playing live again and we can’t wait to get to sit down, sip a pint and listen to him.

Editor of the Alternative View, Matt McGlone joins More than 90 Minutes, Andrew Milne to talk about the current state of play at Celtic.

Matt was Editor of Once A Tim, Celtic Fanzine and was the founder of Celts for Change who helped overthrow the old board when Fergus McCann heralded a new era at Celtic when the rebels won. What followed was a stadium rebuild and a team was built to stop Rangers doing 10IAR.

He worked at Celtic for a number of years during the McCann era before leaving to start the Alternative View Celtic Fanzine.

Eddie Toner joins More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne on the latest Talk from the Terrace to discuss Celtic’s recent season book announcement and the reaction throughout the Celtic Support since. Eddie was born in the shadow of Celtic Park and has never lived more than walking distance away from Paradise.

His family are steeped in the history of Celtic, his grandfather was the Celtic Park groundsman and he spent many a day in and around the old ground meeting the likes of Jock Stein and Billy McNeill as he played around the stadium. Match day is a family affair where generations gather in the Main Stand where he sits in between his Mam and Sister.

He is the former General Secretary of the Celtic Supporters Association and ever present at home and away games following Celtic but he has come to a cross roads in his Celtic supporting life and is wrestling with the unthinkable idea of giving up his season book as he feels so disconnected with those running OUR club.

Having witnessed two 9IAR’s and a Quadruple Treble along with the bad times in the 1990’s this is a sad state of affairs when those running the club are driving a wedge not only between themselves and the average Celtic fan on the street but a quick look on social media will tell you that they continue to divide the Celtic Support. At the moment the club we all love sadly does not resemble the community club it was set up for.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 72 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Hugo Straney

Hugo Straney will is well known to many Celtic Fans as the host of the NAFCSC Las Vegas Convention born in Belfast, Hugo grew up in the Divis Flats before emigrating as16 year old for a new life in Toronto in the 1970’s.

The conversation kicks off with Hugo and Andrew as they look back at some memorable moments from the North Amercian Convention over the years before Hugo talks about growing up in the Divis flats in Belfast including missing Dana winning the Eurovision Song Contest and a documentary that was made years later about the flats.

Celtic play a part in most of our guests lives on the show, Hugo first went to see Celtic as a 9 year old in Glasgow when they played Manchester United in a pre-season friendly and takes the listeners back to that special afternoon and a 4-1 win in the season that Celtic would become Champions of Europe and little did the wee bhoy know then that he would be on stage welcoming all those Celtic legends on to Las Vegas years later.

He also chats about going over to see Celtic play Leeds United at Hampden with his pals including Jim Mervin who I have shared many a bus with to Glasgow over the years.

After emigrating to Canada and the culture shock that awaited Hugo soon settled into life across the Atlantic. In 1981 his homecoming was a sad one, when he returned to Belfast for his cousins funeral, Joe McDonnell died on Hunger strike in the Maze Prison at a very dark period in Ireland’s history.

Hugo travelled back to Toronto and got involved in the Entertainment scene which he would continue to be involved in for almost 40 years including spinning records, singing, acting on stage and hosting his radio show and has also hosted the Celtic FC Foundaton dinner in New York and even played the late great Joe Dolan in a musical.

The Celtic Soul Time Machine gets dusted down and Hugo climbs in and goes back to Celtic Park for the 5-1 Dembele Demolition when he was sat next to Tommy Docherty.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 71 The Celtic Trust Special

Thanks to ACSOM for hosting the Celtic Trust Questions & Answers session with members of the Celtic Independent Fan Media getting the chance to ask questions for their readers and listeners in a live forum and it also gave Celtic fans tuned in a chance ask questions also.

On the Night Paul from Celtic Shared who many fans will know from his tireless with FAC also joined the panel to answer questions along with The Celtic Trust members. The event took place before Celtic PLC decided against opting to go with the Celtic Trust proposal for Celtic Shares to be issued to season books holders as an added value to the virtual season book and digital programs.

Celtic PLC has opted for a £50 voucher offer while keeping the same price as last year for the new season, which will add a cost to the club unlike the shares proposal which would have cost the club nothing. The discussion is worth a listen and will answer some questions on the gap that exists between the board and the Celtic support.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 70 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Tommy Sheridan.

Tommy Sheridan is a political activist, a former SMP, Celtic Fan and even popped up on celebrity big brother and has been very active in the Scottish Independence movement.

The conversation kicks off with Tommy and Andrew looking back over last season as Neil Lennon, Peter Lawell and Scott Brown all signed off at Celtic. While they look back and ask did the rot set in before Brendan Rodgers left the club? and talk about a recent interview with John McGinn where he spoke about what went wrong with him signing to Celtic before he headed for Birmingham and signed to Aston Villa.

Modern Football gets a going over and how important it is to have unity among the Celtic support with the vulture funds circling for a bigger piece of the pie as Super League/ New Champions League gets closer with each passing season.

The level of hatred, anti-Irish anti Catholic bile witnessed last Saturday in Georges Square when business premises were forced to close as the Rangers fans are called out once again for their actions. History tells us that their actions are nothing new and we must keep calling it out for what it is but if they showed Glasgow in a bad light while in the Pollokshields, local residents came out to stop two people from being taken from their homes, who the Police said were illegal immigrants, showed the true spirit of Glasgow. One City, Many Cultures.

Tommy goes onto speak with compassion when he talks about the Scotland he wants to live in which leads into the recent Scottish elections and the support that is growing for another referendum for an Independent Scotland while a border poll in Ireland also gets closer.

Palestine gets discussed, the solidarity showed by Celtic fans from the terraces and stands of Celtic Park and the disappointment of the club taking down the recent display of solidarity in an empty stadium as innocent Palestinian men, woman and children are bombed and murdered on a daily basis by War Criminals masquerading as victims.

Tommy jumps into the Celtic Soul Time Machine and goes back to Dixie Deans making the headlines in Cup Finals and European Semi Finals with the backdrop of the Miners being on strike as Glasgow homes fell into darkness.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 69 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Gary Kelly

His Legacy is the Cancer Centre named after him in Georges Street, Drogheda. Gary a working class kid from Marian Park, who from an early age had a ball at his feet.

As Leeds United captain the fans called him a leader now they call him a legend after 17 years at the club. Leeds is a team and city very close to his heart but the town of good old Drogheda has always been and always will be home.

An International star for Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy at World Cups as the Drogheda people looked on with pride as he lined out in the Green of Ireland. The Top Shop and Ollie’s Bars were filled to capacity cheering him on in distance lands at all hours.

The money from his testimonial game against Celtic would not only fund a cancer support centre in his hometown but money would be split with a cancer charity in Leeds.

Gary lives the quite life in his hometown now and is not interested in the limelight and after numerous requests to interview him he finally agreed to share his journey with us.

The Gary Kelly’s story will inspire many and is worth telling it’s a story of family, friends and football..

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 68 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Jason Maloney

If football teams were people then Jason Maloney would be married to Shamrock Rovers but he would also keep Celtic as a Mistress and would enjoy the occasional fling on football weekends around Europe on his many travels over many years. Jason could be described as a Terrace Anorak, who enjoys the whole football experience and not just the 90 minutes on the terrace. He is also the former editor of the Shamrock Rovers Fanzine – the Glenmalure Gazzette.

The interview kicks off with Jason talking about how he suffered recently with Covid19 and he had a word or two for the conspiracy theorists before the conversation turns to Celtic and the season we have just witnessed as we stumbled from one crisis to another in a season where there seemed to be no plan B.

.

Jason chats to Andrew about manager in waiting Eddie Howe’s CV from his time at Bournemouth including some decent signings he made along with a few bad ones. The bhoys shoot the breeze about Scott Brown’s time at Celtic and the improvement we saw when Brendan Rodgers arrived.

Many buses and trips to see Celtic were discussed including many in Europe with the Gallowgate Travel Club before the conversation turns to Shamrock Rovers, Fan Ownership and the recent 2 million euros investment in the club by Dermot Desmond.

Jason also shares some great stories of his travels to see different teams abroad including St. Pauli and how big a part football culture plays in his life and how much he is missing the whole fan experience.

No Celtic Soul Podcast would be complete without the guest climbing into the Time Machine and Jason travels back to 1998 when Celtic stopped the 10.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 67 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Fergus Dowd

Fergus Dowd is the Chairperson of the Patrick O'Connell Memorial Fund.. He has written for numerous publications including More than 90 Minutes, United We Stand, Beyond The Last Man, Póg Mo Goal, Nutmeg, and Football Pink. He is also the host of “A road less travelled podcast”

The conversation picks up again with Fergus telling his personal journey and how he became involved in telling the Patrick O’Connell story and how he played his part. His father called him after attending a talk on the Spanish Civil War and asked him did he ever hear of Patrick. The answer was No.

While cycling around football grounds to raise money for his friend’s charity, Scott Bell who sadly died of Motor Neurone disease. Scott played for Blyth Spartans and a game was arranged between the Spartans and FC United. Fergus arranged to get Patrick O’Connell’s family to come and tell the story to those attending the game.

After hearing the story Fergus was emotional and started writing to players to get them to sign jerseys to raise funds to give Patrick the resting place he deserved. Bertie Auld got the Lisbon Lions to sign a jersey, along with Roy Keane and others.

He then took the story back to Belfast and a mural was commissioned. In the summer of 2015 the mural was unveiled and Bertie Auld and John Clark attended along with hundreds of others before the story continues back in his hometown of Dublin where a plaque was unveiled in Patricks memory and an event was held in the Mansion House with the help of the then Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke to honour Patrick.

The story continues when a commissioned Bust of Patrick was brought to Real Betis and now sits in the club museum.

An incredible story, of how ordinary football fans brought the forgotten story of Patrick O’Connell to the World and how their hard work would lead to a 2 hour film to get the story out to a bigger audience Worldwide about the Irish man who saved Barcelona.

Fergus chats also about his involvement in the Tony Gregory exhibition in Dublin. Tony was an Independent politician in Dublin’s inner city and fought many fights for working class people.

The conversation continues about Irish footballers who have travelled around the globe to play football, some successful, some not and some stories end in tragedy.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 66 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Fergus Dowd

While researching an article on the formation of the Football Players Union in England he reached out to the striking Debenhams workers to find out their stories and he chats to Andrew about how he started to document their stories and the support they have received from players, musicians and authors.

The quality of the articles Fergus writes speak for themselves and unlike many of todays websites who are more interested in cut and paste articles taken from the tabloids. The research he carries out is second to none and he touches on his latest article which covers a lot from Victor Jara, the 1962 World Cup, Garrincha, Pinochet & the horrors of the Estadio Nacional.

The story of Patrick O’Connell is amazing with so many highs and lows which Fergus goes into great detail to share the story with the listeners of the Dublin footballer who died a penniless alcoholic on the streets on London after saving FC Barcelona from Franco, winning La Liga with Real Betis as manager 81 years ago this week. Their first and only title win.

An Irish international player who played his club football with Belfast Celtic and Manchester United who paid £1000 which was a massive amount of money at the time. Out of that transfer his family received £4.

Outside football O’Connell ran guns from London to Dublin to be used in the 1916 Easter Rising in his hometown. He played for two seasons in Scotland for Dumbarton and his first game for them was against Celtic at Celtic Park where he marked the great Patsy Gallacher.

An incredible story, give it a listen you will not be disappointed.

Jeanette Findlay from The Celtic Trust joins Andrew Milne to talk about the State of Play on Talk from the Terraces after a week of Super League moves and British League tabloid talk. Jeanette has been a tireless worker on behalf of Celtic fans and was one of the main movers in FAC.

The question is what do we want as Celtic fans going forward?

Do we want to be customers of a Global brand or do we want to be football fans?

Jeanette talks passionately about her position and where she stands and it is not being part of a global brand, it is about being part of a club with it’s heart and soul in the community it was founded for.

A move to a bigger league would be costly and would hit fans in the pocket and price many Celtic fans out who regularly attend games in Scotland but more importantly it would make Celtic more appealing to foreign investors and the likes of the Glazier family types.

It took the Gary Neville’s of the media World and Sky Sport pundit types about 16 years to realize the Glaziers had ripped the heart and soul out of Manchester United and it’s fans and now these parasites are ready to play their part in ripping football further away from the working class.

Sky Sports are responsible for moving kick off times and days from the traditional 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon games to Sunday at Noon and Monday Evening without a thought for the miles that fans have to travel to away games or the time they would have to take off work to attend these games.

If Sky Sports were part of the Super League deal they would be already rebranding to launch a new all singing and dancing cheer leading football soap opera and when UEFA rebrands and backs the Super League (Champions League for more non Champions), Gary and Sky will be there to kick the football fans further down the chain and embrace games played in the USA, UAE and China to increase the Global brand without a care in the World for the heartbeat of every club, the fans.

We should remember that LinSELL Train are here to increase the value of their shareholders and own 18.6% of Celtic. The Celtic TRUST wants to keep Celtic values and increase the fans shareholding in the club to 20% by growing the Trust and getting as much small shareholders to come together.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 64 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Paul Heaton

Sheffield United fan, Paul Heaton is a singer/songwriter who has never hidden behind the door when it comes to speaking out about politics and social issues. His CV of work and hit records is vast from The Housemartins to The Beautiful South to his solo career and to his reunion with Jacqui Abbot in more recent years.

The conversation picks up again when the lads chat about Italian football and Paul’s knowledge of the game in Italy from the mid-eighties to the mid-nineties when the three foreigner rule was in play. Paul also remembers seeing Maradona when he was lighting up the league with Napoli.

Paul Heaton playing a gig the night before a Celtic game in Glasgow is mentioned as a marriage made in heaven for Andrew and his mates while for Paul he prefers to visit old grounds as the atmosphere at the new stadiums is not the same as his team Sheffield United head for relegation and he is looking forward to going to Peterborough away.

Partick Thistle v Celtic and the area around Thistles ground gave Paul a chance to see another part of Glasgow as they drift into chatting about Celtic. Paul is certainly not a fan of modern football and his love of Sheffield United is a pure and honest love.

Paul has done so much good work for his community and has paid workers who have lost their jobs including the Q magazine workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic. He gets a little embarrassed when talking about this but Andrew feels that it should be noted on the Podcast.

Politics, Red Cards, Fame and Money all get touched on in the conversation including Lazio’s visit to Glasgow and the Green Brigades response.

As with every guest on the Celtic Soul Podcast, Paul jumps into the time machine and travels back to his teenage years and a Frankie Vali concert with his Mam and an early Housemartins gig when they played in front of two people and a support slot in those early days with Madness.

Paul Heaton is a true Working Class Hero who has never forgotten who he is. Fame and Money never changed him and he continues to live within the community. Paul is more push bike and public bus than Limousine and Security Guards in dark glasses.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 61 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Paul Heaton

The conversation starts in Dublin and swings back and forward as Paul recounts stories of his travels through Ireland and talks gigs, trips and visits to football grounds and more than one or two heavy sessions during his party days in the Beautiful South.

Paul’s music and lyrics have had an influence on so many including Andrew as they touch on politics, history and social issues before Paul reflects back on his childhood growing up in Sheffield in a football and sports mad house before moving to Surrey where he would become proud of his Northern roots and later the Miners’ Strike of 1984 would influence his politics and music.

It’s lovely to hear Paul talk about his relationship with Ireland and the songs he has wrote about the Emerald Isle and his respect for the people who have come along to so many gigs and the football fans who would eventually start singing his songs on the terraces and his call to the Celtic fans to follow suit after including Depeche Mode and the Stone Roses have been added to the Celtic Song Book in recent times.

Paul loves his football, a love he inherited from his Dad who coached teams all his life. Paul played over 700 senior amateur games at the highest level and has a pre-gig ritual of visiting football teams from Arbroath to Rovers and Bohs in Dublin to the famous United Park in Drogheda.

Paul Heaton is a true Working Class Hero who has never forgotten who he is. Fame and Money never changed him and he continues to live within the community. Paul is more push bike and public bus than Limousine and Security Guards in dark glasses.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 60 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Rudi Vata and Eddie Toner with David Potter and some match day friends.

Celtic AM Scottish Cup Special, Andrew returns after a year with the show which differs from the normal Celtic Soul Podcast which was recorded for Celtic Fanzine TV. All is explained in the intro from Andrew.

Celtic historian and author David Potter kicks off the show with a history lesson of Celtic in the Scottish Cup including recounting his own memories from 1965 onwards and he also recalls his father’s stories of famous finals in his time.

Plenty of Celtic fans are also on hand to recall their favourite Cup moments. Frank McAvennie in the Centenary season, giving Maggie Thatcher the red card and Tom Rogic’s magical late invisible treble winning goal are just three that get mentioned.

Eddie Toner chats to Andrew about how special the Scottish Cup is and his memories include the story behind a man in his thirties dressed in a full kit for the final in 1995 and the celebrations that night when Tommy Burns took the team bus through the Gorbals and the Gallowgate on the way back to Celtic Park.

Rudi Vata recalls being on the bus that day with two special Celtic fans who lived the dream, Paul McStay and Tommy Burns and how special a day it was for the team and he also goes back to relive that perfect pass in the semi-final when he found Phil O’Donnell for the third goal in a 3-1 win over Hibs to secure victory.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 59 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Jacky Meehan

Jacky witnessed the most successful period in Celtic’s history from 1965 till 1974 in Glasgow before moving to Canada for a new life. Jacky is the former President of the North American Celtic Supporters Federation and a driving force behind the Celtic Conventions in Las Vegas.

The Bhoys haven’t spoken since they met at Easter Road a few season’s back and catch up discussing the current state of play at Celtic and look back at some great moments in Celtic history for fans on and off the park. There is plenty of laughter as Jacky looks back at growing up in Glasgow close to the ground in Bridgeton and his passion for the club shines through.

Jacky celebrated his 12th birthday watching Celtic win the 1965 Scottish Cup Final and talks about following Celtic everywhere and enjoying the first 9IAR before leaving Celtic and Glasgow behind for a new life in Canada.

He gets back every year to Glasgow to take in a few games with Seville the highlight of his many travels home. In the early days Jacky would be on the phone to his brother in Glasgow if he couldn’t get a game on the radio and his brother would keep him updated throughout the 90 minutes.

Modern technology means Jacky can now get Celtic news 24/7 but some of the lengths Celtic fans went to get to watch games in North America over the years is recalled by Jacky including hilarious Police raids and chopping down trees!

Jacky chats about how the NAFCSC came about and some of the conventions in Vegas and elsewhere throughout North America and the Celtic players who have joined them over the years. Tales from Detroit, Las Vegas and New Orleans all get told.

The NAFCSC have donated quietly for many charities including to the families of two Celtic fans murdered in Glasgow. Sometimes these donations get over looked and it is good to hear that the wishes of Brother Walfrid are still alive and well in North America.

Jacky Climbs into the Celtic Soul Time Machine and goes back to Las Vegas and also watching Bobby Murdoch his favourite player. The 1965 Scottish Cup Final, Milan in the Snow, 1989 Scottish Cup Final and Seville also get visited.

Three words sum up this conversation Family, Friends & Football.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 58 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to David Low

David Low is Chair of the Celtic Trust. He is a Celtic fan and has been lucky enough to enjoy not one but two 9IAR’s and see Celtic reach 2 European Cup finals and enjoyed the recent quadruple treble. He was involved with Fergus McCann back in 1994 when the rebels won and the old board was ousted. He was a consultant at Celtic during the McCann years which saw Celtic Park redeveloped and Celtic stop Rangers doing the 10IAR.

A lot has happened since January when David last chatted to Andrew on the Podcast. Neil Lennon has left the dugout, Peter Lawell is getting ready to leave the directors box and we await the arrival of new CEO Dominic McKay as we wait to see who will become our next Manager.

David and Jeanette Findlay represented the Celtic Trust with a meeting with Celtic, CEO Peter Lawell, Financial Director, Chris McKay and Supporters Liason Officer John Paul Taylor recently and he talks about what was said and proposed at the meeting.

David quickly explains how the PLC works before going into detail of one of the major talking points of the meeting when the Trust made a proposal to Celtic to compensate the season ticket holders from this season with the option of a gift of shares to the value of the season ticket after you take out the costs of the virtual season ticket.

Covid19 and the fallout will continue to have an impact on Celtic and the greater football World David thinks that it may excelorate a European Super League and a chance for Celtic to play outside of Scotland and this was also touched on at the recent meeting in Celtic Park.

Andrew asks David to switch from his Celtic fans hat and his financial background on occasions as the conversation flows from what could and should happen at Celtic and in the wider football community with the likes of European Super Powers like Barcelona and Real Madrid heading into serious financial troubled waters.

They touch on the management vacancy at Celtic, player exit and maybe more departures from the boardroom. On the new CEO, Dominic McKay who David does not know personally but he says one of his business partners does and he gives his opinion on what he does know of him and he looks back at all the CEO’s who have served the club since Fergus McCann took up that position in the boardroom.

Peter talks about recent statements and the growth of the Celtic Trust their current shareholding and the targets they are setting and goals they want to achieve to give Celtic fans, a greater say in the running of Celtic.

They also touch on Celtic v the Rangers, Glasgow Derby and David climbs back into the Celtic Soul Time machine again, this time Andrew asks him to take us back to his time as a consultant at Celtic. This leads to David having a pop at the SFA for their treatment of Celtic including how they ripped Celtic off when renting Hampden and also how Fergus McCann stood up to the SFA and how the Suits at the club should be nowhere near the Tracksuits.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 57 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Peter Hooton

Peter Hooton, is a singer, songwriter and the front man of Liverpool band The Farm, he was a pioneer in what would become football fanzines when he started The End Fanzine back in the early eighties. He is a committee member of the Liverpool fans pressure group Spirit of Shankly and just to keep busy over the years he has written a couple of books and put out a documentary on the Casuals.

The second half of the conversation kicks off with Andrew and Peter chatting about the importance of supporters pressure groups such as the Celtic Trust and the Spirit of Shankly as we wait for European Super League and the influence of Billionaire owners. The Spirit of Shankly were inspired by the Green Brigade to support local foodbanks and Peter and the group have also been up to Celtic to check out the Standing Section in Celtic Park.

The second part of the chat floats between music, football and life and Peter explains how the sound the band created for the Spartacus album caught on and how football and music mixed to create the sound of The Farm and the image they created from terrace fashion and the influence it would have on the bands that followed them.

Peter chats about the friendly rivalry with the Happy Mondays and their hilarious Trip to Tipp, festival in Ireland and a session after the sound check and the shenanigans that followed before, during and after the gig.

Having followed Liverpool around England and Europe all his life, Peter stopped going into Anfield after Greame Souness gave an interview to The Sun on the anniversary of Hillsborough.Peter also touches on how some Liverpool fans were unhappy with Souness joining Rangers and are unhappy that Steven Gerard took the manager’s job at Ibrox.

Hillsborough is discussed and the Celtic v Liverpool game that followed and listeners can hear the pain in Peter’s voice as he remembers that day and what followed that traumatic experience.

Peter also turned out for Celtic alongside Jimmy Johnstone against Liverpool in a charity game before Ian Rush’s testimonial and he recalls how Jimmy wouldn’t pass the ball to him and Alan Hansen wouldn’t let him go by him but he did get to perform with The Farm at half time and he also speaks about returning to Glasgow to play on the Justice Tour with Mick Jones and Glasvegas. Gerry Conlon and Paddy Hill were at the gig that night and they know a thing or two about Justice!

Peter jumps in the Celtic Soul Podcast Time Machine and travels back to a Liverpool game in Europe v St. Etienne and into the Kop where he still stands to watch his team.

The story behind the song “All Together Now” is brought to life and Peter gives his opinion on the soldiers of World War 1 and the Poppy Fascism that has followed. Throughout the conversation Peter was open and honest.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 56 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Peter Hooton

Peter Hooton, is a singer, songwriter and the front man of Liverpool band The Farm, he was a pioneer in what would become football fanzines when he started The End Fanzine back in early eighties. He is a committee member of the Liverpool fans pressure group Spirit of Shankly and just to keep busy over the years he has written a couple of books and put out a documentary on the Casuals.

The conversation kicks off with Andrew and Peter chatting about the early years of The Farm and their Irish gigs supporting The Housemartins when they hadn’t a pot to piss in and the attitude of the band inspired by the Clash, their influences and those who helped them along the way including Madness and UB40.

The Clash who Peter spent a week in the company of in Paris after blagging his way onto the guestlist after he revisited the city after a European Cup Final win for Liverpool is recalled.

Peter talks about growing up in Liverpool and his Irish connections and the traditions of the Protestant and Catholic faiths in the city. The Liverpool docks became a big employer for immigrants for the original Irish and their descendants. Peter is great story teller and paints a picture of school days and his love of football and Bill Shankly for the listeners.

His love of football and captaining his school team would see him make his first trip to Glasgow to play against local schools before going to see Celtic and a chance meeting with Jock Stein and later the Glasgow Police in a Chippy.

Both Peter and Andrew have a love of Fanzines and their DIY nature, they speak about the End and the influence it would have on the Football Fanzines that followed and the connection music has with football culture and the new forms of media with Peter describing FaceBook as the revolution that went wrong.

The conversation travels from Dublin to Liverpool to Glasgow and even to London for Soho nights with Suggs from Madness who was once the Farms manager come drinking buddy.

You’ll Never Walk Alone gets mentioned and Peter gives the story behind how Celtic fans now sing Four Leaf Clover in Celtic Park after the Peat Diggers gig in Liverpool after Celtic UEFA cup game in the late 1990’s and he chats about the whole day in the pub listening to the band while the pub ran out of beer before emergency stocks were brought in while the fans of both teams were at Anfield.

All football fans love talking about away days and Peter tells the listeners about a trip with Liverpool up to Glasgow and sessions in the Gallowgate and the Gorbals in Bairds and the Brazenhead before the tape is paused on the first part of the interview.

In part two next Friday Peter opens up about Hillsborough, he also chats about pulling on the Celtic jersey to play alongside Jimmy Johnstone and the importance of fan pressure groups like the Spirit of Shankly and the Celtic Trust in modern football

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 55 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Charlie Fealy.

Charlie Fealy is a singer, songwriter and front man of the legendary Glasgow Irish band The Blarney Pilgrims. Born in Dundalk, it was Glasgow where Charlie and his band would become part of the Celtic Match Day experience for so many Celtic fans and his music can be heard blasting out of supporters buses up and down the coast of Scotland on route to Paradise and on European away days.

With the Blarneys iconic album “Granda Was A Celtic Man” now re-released on digital platforms including Spotify. Andrew and Charlie chat about the album, Charlie’s life growing up in Glasgow after moving from Ireland to the Gorbals at 3 years old and Kerry where he now calls home.

Charlie talks about the bigotry he faced in Glasgow and also the decent people who educated him and his awakening to Celtic and what it stood for on his first visit to Celtic Park as a young boy. They chat about Celtic, music, politics and social issues as the conversation flows after almost two decades since they last spoke.

Legendary gigs in Glasgow and Ireland come up in conversation including the Mean Fiddler in Dublin where another iconic album was recorded “Marching Down Sackville Street” and some new material that Charlie has written and hopes to record soon and who knows maybe a reunion and some live gigs to look forward to after these lockdowns.

They talk about the songs that Charlie wrote for “Granda Was A Celtic Man album” and how it was written through the eye of a Celtic fan for the Celtic fans. Celtic is much more than a team who plays for 90 minutes to Charlie and that comes out through his music and also in this conversation.

It’s fascinating to hear how the Glasgow Irish sound of the Blarney Pilgrims originated from and the musical pioneers who influenced Charlie along the way from America and closer to home in the pubs of Glasgow. If the London Irish sound was captured perfectly by The Pogues fussing of Céilí and Punk then the Glasgow Irish sound created by Charlie came from the drums of Republican Flute Bands and American Bluegrass.

Influenced by some wise words from Luke Kelly, Charlie set out on his musical career in smoke filled Irish pubs in Glasgow from his Gorbals home with the conflict in Ireland never far from his thoughts when he sang or strummed a guitar.

Charlie jumps in the Tim Time Machine and heads back to 1980 and into a packed Celtic Park when you could still bring a carry out in to enjoy the game.

Both “Granda Was A Celtic Man” and “Marching Down Sackville Street” are both available to download and listen to on Spotify.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 54 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Jonny Owen

Jonny Owen is a writer, producer, actor, musician and radio show host. In his younger days he was an amateur boxer. His CV makes impressive reading including the Three Kings documentary film about Jock Stein, Bill Shankly and Matt Busby which he directed.

Jonny and Andrew chat about The Three Kings Film, the legendary managers of Celtic, Liverpool and Manchester United Busby, Stein and Shankly the teams they built and the impact they had on each club. A miners son Jonny’s Dad would tell him when he was growing up about all three iconic football figures and their connections to the mines whenever they would come onto the television.

Both Jonny and Andrew grew up in working class areas with the same political and social landscape backdrop and a wonderful musical soundtrack to life. They share their experiences from boxing gyms, watching football, the odd all night party, trips to Glasgow and music from childhood, through the teenage years to manhood.

Jonny supports Cardiff City and the conversation takes in all of football culture and names crop up from time to time like Martin O ‘Neill and John Robertson from his connections with Nottingham Forest.

There is plenty of chat about Busby, football culture as the conversation flows in and out about Stein, Shankly and Busby all three working class heroes who would not only conquer the World of Football but the hearts of the communities they represented.

Modern Football, Football without Fans, Football on TV, all gets examined as does the late eighties and nineties culture when weekends were all about football, fanzines, music and staying up all night with no filters or Instagram to spoil the party. Life was more real then when teeth were yellow.

Jonny jumps in the Tim Time Machine and heads back to 1967 and into the heat of Lisbon while stopping off on the way back to relive some of his favourite times in Glasgow including a great session in the Gorbals.

The Three Kings is available to watch on Amazon and don’t forget to listen in to Jonny’s show on Talk Sport every Sunday

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 53 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Paul McQuade

Paul McQuade is the Editor of the Shamrock Fanzine. He is also the man behind the Walfrid Walking Tours and is one of the founding members of the Celtic Graves Association. He has written three books on Celtic, Said Lizzy To Philip How Celtic Gate Crashed the Coronation, This Is How it Feels to be Celtic an account of the Invincible Season and a book of Celtic Quotes. He is currently writing a biography of Johnny Doyle.

In part 2 of the interview, Paul and Andrew chat about his new book on the life and career of Johnny Doyle and the dept of detail he has researched to get the true picture of Johnny on and off the park.

Paul also looks back on the Invincible season, Why he wrote the book and how good a season it really was when the board, the players, the management and the fans were all United during that time which is a far cry from this season. He gives his opinion on Brendan Rodgers now and then.

Kieran Tierney a player who was ever present during that Invincible season gets talked about as does Tommy Burns who he tells the listeners had also contemplated leaving Celtic to improve his financial situation. Tommy when playing for Celtic relied on a league win bonus to bring his family on holiday. Hard to believe when you think of what some players are paid for sitting on the bench and kissing the jersey now and again.

He also gives his opinion on outgoing CEO, Peter Lawell and the task that faces incoming CEO Dominic McKay while he expresses his disappointment at the absence of power broker and decision maker, Dermot Desmond from Celtic Park.

Paul also jumps into the Tim time machine and heads back to the Centenary season.

Celtic Soul Podcast Episode 52 with More than 90 Minutes, Editor Andrew Milne chatting to Paul McQuade

Paul and Andrew chat about the current situation at Celtic while Paul reflects back on his formative years growing up and starting on his Celtic supporting journey. Johnny Doyle died on his 11th birthday and he now finds himself writing a biography of the player. As a youngster he waited outside the stadium to get Mo Johnston’s autograph, he has no plans to write a book on him.

His love of Celtic and Celtic’s history started at a young age when he was gifted a collection of books on Celtic and started to travel on supporters buses. He chats about selling Not the View during his University years in Edinburgh and the story telling that he has enjoyed from fellow Celtic supporters over the years. The 90’s may have been bad but you have to chuckle when he mentions Tony Mowbray’s testimonial when we were singing “Always look on the bright side of life”. A Monty Python moment!

Player recruitment and the policy of interference going back to Gordon Strachan’s time as manager get questioned and the fans stories of buses and away trips to Europe which may well lead to a book, Paul recounts stories like the bus that crossed the Alps from Turin after the windows were put in and takes us right back to the Celtic Brake Clubs who were the originators of Football Away Days.

Like his pal, Brendan Sweeney, Paul’s research for his books is amazing and that shines through in this conversation with his knowledge and love of Celtic. Both Paul and Brendan are just two of the founding members of the Celtic Graves Association and it was great to see how it came about and the work they and the other volunteers have done since then and the famous names they have honoured and remembered.

Paul also takes us on a Virtual Walfrid Walking Tour starting at Celtic Park which leads us then through the streets of the East End of Glasgow from the 1870’s onwards which is a fascinating listen.

Cherry Orchard, Shamrock Rovers, Celtic, the Irish National team and Leicester City were his teams and he followed them home and away over many years. He got to see Rovers winning the league and Celtic doing the Quadruple Treble before his sad passing.

John was a great supporter of the fanzine over the years and would buy 10 copies to give to his customers free in his taxi. He loved a midweek trip and was a regular on European adventures with his close mates in St. Margaret’s CSC and he was no stranger on a cold wet winter night to the likes of Dundee or Cardiff.
