Boldly Becoming You Podcast: Recent Episodes

Tasha Skillin

The Boldly Becoming You Podcast is your bi-weekly invitation to become who you were born to be. Underneath the layers of rules and expectations you have adopted over your lifetime, in an effort to connect and be accepted, you’ve lost much of who you were when you entered this world. Twice a week I will call on you to answer that whisper from your inner wisdom that you have been shushing for years and begin the redesign of your life.

On Mondays I’ll share truths about the human experience and highlight opportunities to deepen your connection to yourself so you can show up in all areas of your life in full alignment and with a meaningful impact. In these brief episodes, you will be reminded of your responsibility to yourself to become the person you have always wanted to be.

On Thursdays, I’ll introduce you to people who have lived both lives - the one where they agreed to what others expected of them, following the same arbitrary rules we all agreed to AND then had the courage to finally listen to their gut telling them there was something more. We will learn how to navigate the sometimes messy experience of listening to our truest selves from their collective journeys and then redesign daily life to pursue our respective purposes.

In reality, there are no Universal rules about what is right and wrong or good and bad in parenting, partnership, friendship, etc. It’s about what is aligned with your purpose...and what is not. Boldly Becoming You will help you challenge the rules you may not even know you are following so you can get on with living an authentic life that fills you up and allows you to have meaningful connections while practicing your purpose.

What do I want????

Whether you're deep in burnout, running on autopilot, or just feeling disconnected from yourself after years of being useful to everyone else… I get it. This episode walks you through the 5 mistakes that keep so many of us stuck in survival mode, waiting for clarity that doesn’t come and the first 3 steps to figuring out what you actually want.

Where you gently unhook from urgency, listen to your nervous system, and stop trying to solve your life like a math problem.

Here’s what we get into:

  • The biggest lie about “clarity” that keeps high-achievers spinning
  • Why your body needs to access that truth
  • And why desire isn’t a luxury, it’s a survival skill

If you’ve been trying to “figure it out” but everything just feels heavy, uncertain, or like too much work, it’s not you. You’re not broken. You just haven’t been taught how to do this in a way that actually works for your life.

In this episode, we unpack what’s actually going on when you “can’t stay consistent,” and why burnout, chronic stress, and your Complex Life Circumstances (CLCs) keep you stuck in a loop that discipline alone will never solve.

We dig into:

  • Why discipline only works after you’ve built capacity
  • The sneaky ways internalized capitalism, ableism, and childhood conditioning show up in your day
  • What your body, your flare-ups, your freeze response, and your avoidance are really trying to tell you
  • Why being “too tired to function” or “constantly behind” is not a personal failure and what it really means
  • How to tell if you’re living from survival mode (even if everything looks fine from the outside)

You’ll hear real examples from our own lives, from our clients, and from people just like you who thought they had a discipline problem, but were actually overdue for a total capacity recalibration.

By the end of this conversation, we’re asking better questions:

What do I want and what do I need ... today? What’s actually mine to carry? How can I build a life and business that supports my reality, not just my ambition?

If you’ve been forcing, pushing, and blaming yourself for not “doing it right” - this episode is your permission slip to stop performing and start restoring.

In this episode we dig into:

  • What actually happens when you stop living in survival mode and your nervous system finally chills the fuck out? Spoiler: it’s weirder than you think.
  • Having time doesn’t mean you magically know how to enjoy it. Sometimes the pause feels like a loss you didn’t see coming.
  • The very real tension between finally having space to create and just wanting to nap, zone out, or do absolutely nothing.
  • Your brain isn’t reacting to the moment, it’s predicting based on old chaos and current circumstances which means sometimes you kinda short-circuit.
  • Being regulated doesn’t mean life is easier right away. Sometimes it just means you’re awake enough to see what’s really going on.
  • Navigating art, chronic illness, parenting, and business in a house where everyone’s got complex life stuff... it’s not cute, it’s logistics and emotion every damn day.
  • Some of what feels "true" is actually just what you’ve been surrounded by your whole life. When you question it, a whole new world opens up.
  • The hardest part of starting something isn’t always the work, it’s believing you’ll be able to keep going, especially when you have a pile of complex life circumstances
  • If your environment feels like too much, it’s not because you’re weak. It’s because your body is telling the truth about what’s happening around you.
  • A behind-the-scenes look at how Brandon and I have restructured our life and business to actually feel like us, without making each other fit into someone else’s idea of partnership.
  • Two very different relationships to work, rest, and passion, and how we’re finally letting both be valid and valuable.

If you’ve ever felt like you were carrying the weight of the world alone, this episode is a reminder that none of us gets through life—or big movements—on our own. I shared raw insights into my journey, showing how leaning into community and prioritizing self-care made it possible to heal, rebuild and thrive.

In this episode I dig into

  • The inner tug-of-war between feeling powerless and the drive to contribute to something bigger
  • The exhaustion of navigating chronic illness and burnout while maintaining responsibilities.
  • The bravery it takes to reimagine life and purpose when everything you’ve known shifts unexpectedly.
  • The moments where I’ve relied on others to carry me forward and how those connections have shaped your path.

I woke up Monday morning AGAIN feeling very clear that my last 20 years of professional experience and personal healing led me to this season of humaning. Like all of us, our family has been processing the results of last week's election while holding space for all the emotions and thoughts flooding in.

One thing I know for sure is that the leaders guiding humanity through these next 4 years will need massive support to meet the demands of communities and their own families. I know this is part of my purpose, my calling and although it feels a little clumsy in how I can describe the vision and the path to it, I FEEL its truth deeply.

And as a result of Brandon's encouragement that opened the floodgates to this episode, I also recorded a 4ish minute free audio to activate the leader inside of you. DM LEADERSHIP on Instagram or Facebook to receive it...and potential future audios to add to it.

It's going to take all of us leaning into our strengths and gifts to carry our fellow humans through this next administration.

As always, we want to hear your feedback and if this episode resonates with you, share it your fellow badasses.

Thanks for being here

What if you aren't actually bad at follow through?

There are some sneaky rules about "follow through" that are making it impossible for your goals and dreams to become a reality. If you don't real about your complex life and the reality of living in survival mode the last 2-3 decades, you will never see or feel a difference.

When you redefine follow through, consistency, success, etc. you get to live more fully AND you inevitably see more progress.

If you like actionable steps, this episode has 2 homework assignments for you and we want to hear how they go so DM us when you do them.

I don't understand how this is something more people aren't talking about but there is a mountain of evidence showing this is a non-negotiable piece to a healing burnout and cPTSD. Humans are not meant to do life solo - we are co-creators, we rely on one another for feedback, encouragement, challenges and passing on wisdom.

In this episode, Brandon and I talk about the impact of relationships and how they will make or break your healing journey.

In this episode, we talk about why your day has become about other people's goals and dreams, the questions Brandon and I habitually ask ourselves, and how Brandon's phone countdown timer has helped him ask himself: What can I do right now? What new choice can I make right now that is aligned with any of my goals?

We dig into the difference between reacting and responding to the demands from the outside world vs proactively deciding how you're going to start your day and prioritizing YOU.

And what to do if you don't know how to make your dreams and goals the first thing on your to do list.

I wish I knew that part of healing and actually creating the life you want to experience - with joy, attunement, connection, authenticity and feeling safe in the space you exist in - wasn't all gamor and ease. There is a period of adjustment that I wasn't expecting and in this episode my intention is to pass along this lesson to you, to enable you to move through it with less overwhelm and more ease.

When your perspective filter has been set to "what is the worst possible scenario? and what do I need to do to prevent it or at the least, prepare for it?" ...it's really hard to see and receive the goodness that accumulates as you do the work of boldly becoming you.

It takes practice, knowing what to do in the transition period and genuine safe support. This is part of the healing journey humans cannot do alone - it's simply not how we're all wired.

But knowing what's ahead and how you can navigate the swamp of accumulating the new evidence to see how safe, and lovely, your life has become can make it a shorter journey, I believe.

I would love to hear if this episode resonated with you. Do you have a hard time experiencing the joy and seeing the goodness, despite it being right there in front of you? Do you find yourself constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop?

You're not broken, and it's not that something is wrong with you. You just need some practice clocking the safety in the new reality you've been creating.

Tag @rulesandrebellion if you share this on social, it means a lot to me, and it helps get these ideas to other people, which helps our community grow with more support and attunement.

If you want help in navigating this swampy healing journey, you can schedule a clarity call to chat to see if we're a good fit.

In this episode of The Boldly Becoming You podcast we travel back in time to the dark ages of our relationship.

A time without communication. A time…without boundaries 😱😵😵😱

We cover:

  • How the older you get, the more overwhelming boundaries can become
  • How capacity but also the fear of being a burden, inconveniencing someone else and what we see others do inform our ability and willingness to identify our needs.
  • An important question to ask if you are in a relationship that has a long future
  • 🌞😎 And the life-changing tip we learned in therapy 💃💃

But so were we.

In this episode, we talk about:

Tasha and Brandon talk about the silent fight in sharing Instagram posts with each other

How I kept telling myself, I just don't have enough time to do all the things I want to do

How Brandon’s title as the “perfect husband” was BAD for both of us

You want to follow through, you want to show up for the people you love and you want your life to feel…more better more of the time.

What started out as a fun, lighthearted exploratory adventure has turned into a journey to trust myself and my body after years of feeling untethered from it.

One of the biggest disappointments in getting sick in 2014 and being officially diagnosed in 2017 with myalgic encephalomyelitis, ME/CFS, was that Brandon and I were told, "It's unlikely you'll get better. And you'll be lucky, you'll be lucky to not get worse."

In this episode, I share some of that journey and the bigness of one of my 2024 goals to see 10 waterfalls in 1 day by hiking 8 miles, or 18291 steps.

I have used vision boards every step of the way over the last 6 years to keep me focused and believing in myself. And this next goal is not different.

I would love to show you how to create these same beacons of light and inspiration for you in your goals. Register for the Boldly Becoming You Workshop here and join me for a life changing, inspiring and energizing weekend.

If you’re a list maker, note taker, or a to-do guru then you KNOW that if it’s not on a list, it ain’t happ’nin.

So then why oh why does everyone get all weird when we bring up the topic of Vision Boards?

…is it maybe because they have been turned into this big scary expectation of happily ever after or else?

Or maybe it’s because no one ever told you how you are actually supposed to use the damn thing.

In this episode we talk about how to unlock the magic of your vision boards so you can fully unlock them as the powerful tool they are (hint: you just move ‘em around)

Ps. it’s not “magic,” it’s nueroscience that makes so much sense.

In this episode we talk about a concept that is overlooked by almost everyone.

Capacity.

Where does it all go? Why do we think we have more of it than we do, and a few ideas that will get you thinking…”oh yeah, that does make me tired”.

AND we give you a few tips to navigate this whole “capacity” issue.

This is a big deal, because without understanding the capacity you have, setting and achieving your goals is going to be impossible.

You wouldn’t go on a 5 hour drive without looking to see if you had enough gas to get there, don’t start on a journey towards your goals without knowing how much energy, time, and ability you actually have available to you.

And just in case you missed it, here is the replay link to Tasha’s live masterclass The SHE Method - where you learn the 3 factors responsible for making your goals a reality.

Earlier this week we asked the question: “What do YOU think is stopping you or standing in the way of you having what you want”

In this episode, we dig into your responses and our own relationship with goals, success and how we completely shifted our focus to out of burnout and off the neverending treadmill of letdown and disappointment in ourselves and our results.

Specifically:

  • Being too tired and overwhelmed to even think about setting goals past sleep
  • Wanting to want to have the energy to set goals
  • That frustrating feeling of getting started but not having the energy to keep things going

This one’s a good one for all of you go-getters out there.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but almost all of the 2024 new year content on social media is basically gone. That’s because all of that “New Year, New You” crap is all based on the idea of having everything PERFECTLY mapped out all before January 1st.

At R & R, we know that expecting yourself to have your entire year perfectly planned and ready to go by the end of December is based on a bunch of arbitrary rules that throws perfectionists into anxiety fueled fight/flight survival mode.

You’ve got a real life and rarely, if ever, does it line up with a calendar.

Today's episode is all about picking a word/intention for the year. It came out mid-month because you deserve the time and grace to join the party when you are ready and able.

The intention behind picking a word of the year is to have a mental filter to align yourself and your actions with. With that chosen word, you create a guiding principle to keep coming back to, and make decisions with, no matter what kind of weird shit happens between now and 12 months from now.

Picking a word for the year isn’t a brand new concept, but…do you actually know how to use your word of the year so that it's not just some woowoo exercise you forget about in a week?

In this episode we talk about what our words are and why we chose them, but also what the hell to do with them next.

DM us on IG with your word so we can celebrate with you!

And if you want to use this word as a spring board to create a year that you become the boldest, truest version of you, book your clarity call here today.

2023 was a BIG year for my personal growth and healing. It was a lot of inner work and in this episode I share the big lessons I learned including the new non-negotiable I made a vow to do before I touched anything I care about.

As a result of the commitment I made last year to keep facing my fears, and having the support I needed to stick with it, I grew my capacity and am dreaming bigger, attracting more abundance than I ever have as a result. My ability to see a more expansive future for myself feels surreal. I've never felt this calm and confident about such enormous goals for my future.

Nell was fed up with her business being so hard, waking up with her heart racing, pressure in her chest and flushed with anxiety and panic as she launched into action to get her business WORKING. Her confidence was on a roller coaster, depending on how her social media content was performing, and she was angry, flooded with emotion and was close to throwing in the towel despite having a solid foundation of engaged and aligned followers AND having had genuine success in selling her courses and programs in thepast.

Nell's post-concussion syndrome, ADHD, fluctuating hormones from her monthly cycle and chronic dysregulation had her stressed and anxious, operating in full-on masculine energy, draining her and leaving no room for inspiration.

But Nell joins us in today's episode to talk about her transformational experience in our 5 Essential Pivots program. She talks about how she found her footing, the new relationship that has her glowing, how she feels about her business today and her exciting next season of expansion.

👉🏼 You can check out Nell here and make sure to follow her on Tiktok and Instagram.

If you're like me, for most of your life, you've been told to not make excuses for "bad behavior" or when you didn't get something done that you were supposed to. And as a result, you haven't been able to actually give yourself the grace and compassion you deserve for all the times, and all the ways, your good intentions and thoughtful planning didn't turn out the way you had hoped.

In this episode, Brandon and I cover the difference between an excuse and an explanation, specific aspects of your life that are NOT excuses but DO need to be acknowledged if you want things to not be so hard and some challenging things to expect if you've been operating under this "no excuses" gaslighting doctrine for most of your adult life.

We've all heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But the tricky thing with Perfectionism and trauma response patterns in general is that it often doesn't feel like you have much choice.

And until you understand how your micro-decisions send a ripple into your daily life, you can feel powerless. In this episode, Brandon shares an experience from last night where he made a decision that was breaking his own rule - a rule that he made that was in alignment with his goals and that breaking it opened the floodgates to a slew of other, also powerful, inspired decisions.

We also talk about the experiment we did earlier this year of 90 days of new decisions with our relationship with money. This is a jam packed episode - I know you'll love it. Thanks for listening and sharing this with your people!

Our environments heavily influence us in daily life and in long-term achievements, satisfaction and creativity. If you aren't actively and intentionally choosing the people, places and things that influence you, it's likely you have some undetected resistance happening in daily life, adding to your frustrations, disappointments and false starts.

Great news, although we can't change the governement overnight or the social systems we live among, we do have a lot more choice in our daily life than you realize or were given permission to explore.

The homework in this episode is simple and powerful so make sure you give yourself permission to take the few minutes to DO it. 😉

Another fabulous LIVE session on IG and FB turned into a podcast episode 🎉

Myths about habits: - It takes 21 days to create a habit ❌ - If you don’t do it EVERY day, you aren’t being consistent ❌ - Bad habits are just because you aren’t committed or motivated enough ❌

A habit is a behavior or thought that repeats. You know that your habits make up most of your daily life and that there are some habits you want to or wish you already had locked down and there is a mile long list of "bad" habits you feel guilty for not getting rid of already. What if I told you that those “bad habits” were actually crucial for you to get to where you are now and are actually a result of your chronically dysregulated nervous system? Those are how you have survived this far 🤯 and they can disappear if you focus on 2 specific habits we talk about in this episode. Let us know what resonates with you the most from today’s masterclass - DM us on Instagram

And make sure you catch the first part of the series on episode 194: Skills and Ep 195: Environment for the rest of the S.H.E. Method to achieving your goals aka having what you desire.

A 'skill' is the ability to do something well. <-- This is multi-layered and complicated for perfectionists, particularly when efforting to achieve a goal.

The practicing part, the assessing what "well" means, the procrastination, people pleasing, hyper-productivity and pickiness - all contribute to that Perfectionist fight/flight skill development derailment.

But you can do it differently when you understand what's happening with your real life and your nervous system.

You're going to want to listen to this one a couple times so make sure you save it and share it with your recovering perfectionist friends.

And tune into the other 2 parts coming up for the rest of the S.H.E. Method to achieving your goals aka having what you desire.

The Boldly Becoming You Workshop is still in early bird pricing through the end of Monday, October 2, 2023 so grab your spot now.

Do you have days where you are super optimistic and hopeful, feel confident and walk with an extra little pep in your step, and then the next 2 weeks you wonder where she went? Why can't you access that incredible magnetic super charged version of yourself?

This is was a lifelong challenge and it's a huge factor in not only how you show up in your work, in your relationships, and your creativity/passion projects - it's also done a number on your confidence long term.

This is another layer of women's health being ignored for the sake of "ease" for the society built to serve the male biology, and it's wreaking havoc on everything.

You deserve kindness and compassion no matter what day or phase you're in, but it's especially crucial to shift your expectations and activities in the Luteal phase. I share a few shifts I've made to create a different experience for me, and all the things I do and the people I love.

And if you like productive homework, I give you some at the 6 minute mark.

Whew, do I wish I had been more open to hearing this truth SO much earlier in my journey. I spent decades wanting to be seen but never wanting to admit I had those needs. I would pour into people, into projects and work longer than anyone - just so I could feel like I'd done enough to rest, relax and maybe even have some fun.

It wasn't until I was deep in burnout that I learned how crucial this one thing is to the human condition, in particular for healing from perfectionism burnout.

How you start your morning is often how you feel throughout your whole day. And most people are muddling through their morning hours reacting and responding to the world around them, feeling defeated and unsatisfied with their productivity by the time they go to sleep.

I used to feel like I was failing when I didn't do all 5 things on my morning routine list. And that meant that I was starting the day with this dread of "I couldn't even do that right."

In today's episode, I share some observations, my morning practice currently, and some tips on how to shift your relationship with a morning routine so that it inspires you and sets your mental filter for the day.

A candid conversation about the journey to incorporating the awareness of nervous system regulation and the varying aspects of menstrual cycle in daily real life. So much of our self-story is false based on the expectations we had and were put on us that weren't designed for our well-being or lived experience.

This is biology, it's science and we have to start to acknowledge how much of our lives are dictated by someone else's biology. Not to judge anyone or anything but to just be more effective and to live a more full life.

This was recorded in the same foodtruck pod in Portland and although my voice was struggling at the end, I think you'll like this episode a lot.

Whether it's about savings or debt or creating wealth in the future - you have to return to your inner wisdom, your intuition repeatedly, which requires you to untangle your beliefs from the rules, obligations and expectations from the outside world.

In this episode, you are invited to ask some specific questions in your exploration of your relationship with money. And also what to do when you are irritated with your monthly bill paying experience.

Badass & Regulated is our foundational group coaching program that includes Safe with Money, the lessons I mentioned in this episode, to create a new relationship with money. B&R also has over a dozen other masterclasses, all future modules and lessons added (at no extra cost) and lifetime access to the Badass & Regulated private Village community, which includes a private online community and monthly live Q&A calls to personalize your experience.

Whew, money is a BIG trigger for all of us. In this episode I break down different categories of money that you might have a trauma response within, the 3 most common signs I have seen with our clients and in my own healing work, and the first 3 steps to moving out of that devastating pattern.

Most importantly - you didn't do anything WRONG. This is not a moral failing of yours. It's a lack of nervous system/trauma/human body education that all of us are just now beginning to unravel.

I mention the book Tapping Into Wealth by Margaret M Lynch and the Badass & Regulated Program we just launched. If you have questions, make sure to DM us on Instagram!

Survival mode has been used in many cases to describe physical survival and therefore when someone says survival mode, you may not be clocking it as something to pay attention to.

And when you figure it out, you'll know what to do next.

I mention these 3 courses in the episode because they are THE best resources for moving out of survival mode sustainably.

Nervous System Regulation has been the catalyst for so much sustainable change in my life - there isn't an aspect of my personal or business life this information hasn't drastically benefitted me and dozens of the clients we have introduced it to since we started publicly talking about it about a year ago.

But this is the podcast episode that I have ever talked about it to my knowledge but definitely with this depth. And there will be many more to come because so much of what you're trying to do in your healing journey is limited or hits a wall until you integrate this factor.

During a recent Rules & Rebellion Village Group Coaching Call, one of our members said this "I don't respect other people's boundaries." After some digging, we discovered that wasn't necessarily true for every one of her relationships but there were patterns from her family of origin that I am also very familiar with.

In this episode, I share some lessons I learned about how easy it is to unknowingly overlook your own boundary crossing when it feels like you are trying to help.

Perfectionism patterns are sometimes super sneaky and this one is something that isn't talked about enough. I hope you enjoy the episode.

Motivation and self-discipline are often credited for success on many levels. They are also credited for developing successful habits.

Which has translated to people feeling badly about themselves when they don’t currently have the habits they believe they SHOULD have in this moment.

The problems with habits and how people have talked about them is the same problem we have with success strategies for health and fitness, for business, for productivity, for efficiency, for creativity - the quotes and systems were all designed by and for a specific plug and play lifestyle.

In this episode, I cover 3 problems with the way conventional "wisdom" teaches us to develop habits.

But as humans we crave meaningful impact and a sense of purpose - above all we want peace, ease and joy.

What is the KEY ingredient to moving from where you are to where you want to be?

I pivoted from this path of a goal-driven life a few years ago...and it's been working.

You've tried all the hacks, all the strategies and the systems and still you feel defeated, constantly behind, exhausted and unsatisfied with what you've gotten done at the end of the day. I get it - I lived that life for almost 20 years.

Here's the thing, those systems were not designed for people like us. They were created by old white dudes who weren't responsible for the emotional well-being of their family and communities. Those systems weren't created with the flexibility we need for how real life happens - moments, hours and sometimes days or weeks hijacked by taking care of people - which we love but also takes time.

So no more controlling time - Time Integrity is a whole mood and today's episode is just the beginning.

After doing vision boards for over 17 years, I've learned what works and what doesn't. Vision boards have varying degrees of effectiveness but only when you apply the watered down version of the Law of Attraction to it and completely disregard how the human mind works. I certainly had years when I was disappointed in the lack of reality from the vision board I created and I have had years, like this one, where I can see the reality of those dreams and goals actualize regularly.

In this episode, I share the 5 most common reasons that vision boards haven't worked - the last one is a "Wow!" moment.

Growing up in the Foster Care system and then the prison system, Scott Hampton has a true understanding of how and where these institutions fail to teach and emotionally care for the youth of this country. It was in prison that Scott began to understand how the lack of acknowledgment of a person’s experience in the Foster Care system could truly impact them and hold them back from the growth and acceptance that they deserve.

It was from this realization that Scott began to do his own research on the “Foster Care to Prison Pipeline” and began to develop a mentorship program to help those who, like him, did not receive the empathy and support needed to live a full and happy life.

Accountability can feel like a sting or a scary deadline for many of us. It started when we were kids when we didn't do our chores or our grades were less than ideal. This version of accountability doesn't encourage us to show up and BE, DO and Have - it tells us to hide, feel guilty and question our worth.

This doesn't allow growth which means your journey to become the boldest version of you will be limiting and stunted.

What if accountability was encouraging, exciting and joyful? I give you the necessary pieces to create compassionate accountability that actually WORKS for reaching your goals and boldly becoming you.

In this episode, I sit down with Keely Stawicki, a badass entrepreneur whose passion for turning "junk into treasure" led her down the path of entrepreneurship at an early age. From horses to vintage clothing, and soon launching her online business where she helps small business owners to become empowered in their businesses through Facebook advertising and digital marketing systems.

Although her professional successes are impressive, I think what you will find to be the most remarkable is her willingness to not give in or give up on herself as she navigated her way through narcissistic relationships and codependency to be able to find the boldest version of herself. Stay in touch with Keely on Instagram and Facebook and check out her new business at https://www.rebelfunnels.com. ** in this episode we discuss the ability to manifest what you desire and the life you are meant to live. Although this is true for many, this concept has not always been easily executed by those who exist in marginalized communities who are systemically oppressed or discriminated against based on race, religion, gender, ability, etc.

I recognize the white privilege filter used in many current spiritual and "achievement" based conversations, including my own in the past, and the problematic application of these ideas to “all” people when “all” people aren’t safe to walk outside their home, much less take bold and unapologetic action. When all people are treated with respect, this idea of manifesting and pursuing your dream with the steps we discuss, will be the magic for all that is has been for privileged white, and many but not all others, for hundreds of years in this country.**

Regardless of how you became a parent, how you show up is completely up to you; this includes the mom and dad, as well as the bonus mom and bonus dad,. And the weight you feel to do it right is warranted because how we parent does determine how our kids feel about themselves and what they believe they can do or achieve, at least initially. This sometimes translates into the desire to perfect our parenting approach, be the perfect mom or dad in every moment of our children’s lives but I want to propose a different option:  Intentional parenting.

We wear lack of sleep as a badge of honor and proof that we are working harder than our peers to achieve more and reach epic levels of success. This is especially true in the world of entrepreneurship but also in parenthood and other areas of adulting.

We have heard news reports, read articles and listened to the gurus talk about how important sleep is but why?

What actually happens when you sleep that is so important? If I can run on 4-6 hours of sleep with a little (or a lot) of help from caffeine, what's the big deal?

In this episode, I give you the skinny on what's happening in your body now while you trade sleep for "productivity" and the sneaky truth of long-term sleep deprivation.

Dr. Gwen Williams knew at 4 years old she would be a doctor. She was raised by first generation immigrant parents who empowered her confidence by living the example of making the world a better place, to be kind, to have compassion and self-aware.

Having grown up in NYC, she was used to all flavors of diversity and was exposed to the historic truths of race in America by intentional community leaders. During medical school she was corrected by fellow non-white students to "behave" and she began to see a different side of the world she didn't anticipate.

Her story is compelling, her optimism is contagious and her perspective is invaluable which is why this conversation has been split into Part 1 and Part 2. Enjoy Part 1 today.

Boundaries and codependency have a weird stigma in the world of social media meme culture and have been watered down, thus ineffectively used in the effort of supporting healthy and connected relationships of all kinds.

I see dozens of posts regularly in the "relationships" category on all platforms about using boundaries when you find yourself in a "toxic" relationship. We will cover how ridiculous the term "toxic relationships" is in another episode but today we are pulling back the veil on the terms boundaries, codependency and INTERdependence (not the same as independence).

What they actually mean, the clarity on how to identify the tendencies (and not get distracted by the label)...and the truth about rewiring those habits that are inhibiting you from becoming the truest version of yourself.
