Busi G

A space Busi uses to explore and share all kinds of different ways we can possibly take care of ourselves in this world. No one size fits all, but we can learn and explore what works best for us while unlearning anything we may have learnt in the world that might not be serving us and the journey we are on.

In this episode, Busi discusses the importance of re-evaluating the place we live in, similar to how we carefully choose things like cars, clothes, and homes. She questions why many people remain in their place of birth without exploring potentially better options and addresses the societal stigma and perceived difficulties of moving. Busi also touches on historical migration patterns, the role of comfort, and notions of privilege related to moving. She invites viewers to consider how their living environment influences their opportunities and overall life satisfaction. The video concludes with a call for a discussion about why we prioritize everything else over the environment we live in.

On today's episode I talk about how I am starting to use what I call the " Feel Good Measurement" when it comes to my body and weight. I go into the different drivers that brought about this new way of "measuring" myself about from the influence of media to society at large. I delve into what it means for me to use feeling good as a measurement and how I see it move me forward in living a lifestyle that I know from previous experience makes me feel good, energized and gives my body and brain the nutrients they need to function optimally. I also go into how I am extending my feel good measurement into other areas of life and call on you to find and do more of the things that make you feel good, not only in the moment but long-term.

It is the end of a season, it is the end of a period/ a lifecycle/ a chapter, whatever you would want to call it. On this episode, I close off the Unlearning & Learning season which came with a lot of Unlearning's and Learnings of its own. A "season" that I know will be an ongoing theme in my life as I uncover and unpack years of learning that has taken place since I came into this world; questioning my beliefs, questioning my thoughts, my opinions, my ideologies and really digging deep to figure out if it's actually me, my maker or all the things I have been told and taught over the years that I should be, that I should do, believe and live coming out of me or something else.

I thought about making the title of this episode "Naked" because that is how I felt when I recorded it, that is how I felt when I was editing it and it's how I felt listening through it before I uploaded it! I felt NAKED! As if I had taken off all that covered me and just stood there, in front of you, bare.

This episode symbolizes an ending that is at the same time a birth and I am excited to continue going on this journey and hope that there's something you learn or take from it that helps you wake up and realise your own truth and start to actually live it. If you've read this far, thank you for going on this journey with me, I don't know exactly where we're going but I know the journey is going to be a beautiful one. Thank you for being a part of it.

Season three of my podcast has taken me on a joinery of unlearning, learning and remembering things I already knew but forgot. Things did not quite go as I had planned and I've had to pivot to make things work.

I hope you will be able to visit my YouTube channel to watch the short clips I'll be sharing about the individuals I had conversations with but couldn't share in the way I had intended initially on my YouTube channel which you find on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ2tT0-1KatS-GScGz4RjHw?view_as=subscriber

In 2019, on the self-care with Busi podcast, in the month of September, my birthday month, I started what I call a birthday special episode where I have someone lead the conversation and ask me questions as opposed to me leading the conversation with someone I’m speaking to. I have decided to extend the Birthday Special to YouTube and each year, in the month of September, I will have a conversation lead by someone else on my podcast and YouTube channel. Last year my husband kicked off the birthday special for 2019 on my podcast and this year I am having a conversation with my girl Kgaogelo Phatoane, she is a mental health activist, find her on Instagram @kgaodoll.

In 2018 I was a volunteer lay counsellor for an NGO called SADAG while I was based in South Africa. I went through training with them to become a lay counsellor in their call centre and it was a really fulfilling experience. I had a full-time day job in the tech world and I would volunteer during evening shifts. As a volunteer lay counsellor I worked in the call centre and was also part of a number of school talks that brought awareness around mental health and the helplines that were available.

During the time I was a volunteer lay counsellor I realised that as humans, we have a deep need for connection. Authentic and healthy connections with other human beings and so on this episode I speak about the importance of having healthy, authentic connections. Do you hear me, do you see me, am I part of something that is bigger than me! There is power in authentic, healthy connections, even for our health. Learn how you can go about doing a ‘belonging audit’ and get to know the type of connections you have in your life, are they positive, healthy and authentic connections.

Without a doubt, it is important to take care of our bodies! Our bodies are essentially the vehicles that help us navigate through life. Taking care of our bodies the best we can through eating healthy food  and doing exercises that stimulate us ensures we keep our life navigation machine in check.

On this episode I have a conversation with my friend and fitspiration, Itumeleng Tefu. I call her my fitspiration because she inspires me to take better care of my body by eating right, moving and getting fit, hence the title of this episode is "fitspiration". Though she argues this is not a real word, she's still my fitspiration!

Itumeleng takes us on a journey from when she decided to start working out and building healthier eating habits. She gives practical examples of choices she made in her pursuit to find what works for her and her body. If anything, you might find yourself a new fitspiration through listening to her journey; you might also find something that may help you in taking care of your own body.

On this first episode, I have a conversation with my husband, Thami Madlala, on the importance of taking care of your dreams as a form of self care. His story is one I find quite inspirational and I do believe there are a number of people who will find a lot of value in listening to him. The journey he has travelled, starting from being born in a small village in Kwa-Zulu Natal (a province in South Africa) to finally realising his life long dream of moving abroad is one filled with lots of lessons and inspiration. He overcame a number of obstacles along the way and speaks about how he has kept his eye on his dreams and continues to work at realising the new dreams he develops as he grows.
