In this Sunday’s message, “It’s Harvest Time,” Pastor Josh walks us through John 4, where Jesus meets a Samaritan woman and reveals God’s heart to reach people right where they are. The life-changing power of Christ is a free gift, and He leans into our brokenness to lead us to truth. Jesus did not come to shame; He came to claim, inviting us into honesty that leads to surrender and freedom. Our response to the revelation of who He is becomes the key to transformation. Now is the time to step into the harvest and share the good news of Jesus with the world.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
God’s heart beats for the harvest, both in the world and right here in our city. In Matthew 9, Jesus saw the crowds and was moved with compassion, and He calls us to carry that same heart. Compassion is more than a feeling; it leads us to action and often opens the door for the miraculous. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Will we be the ones who pray, who go, and who carry God’s heart into the field? This is an invitation to let God change our hearts so we can see His Spirit move in power.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

This Sunday, Pastor Josh continued the conversation on spiritual gifts, unpacking what it means to “earnestly desire” them. We believe these gifts are still active today and vital to our mission as a church. From prophecy to serving, every gift matters and plays a unique role in strengthening the Body of Christ. Scripture calls us to pursue the gifts eagerly, not for our own recognition but for the building up of others. The Holy Spirit determines the gifts, but we are called to desire them. Without love as our foundation, the very gifts meant to edify the church can become empty displays. Through it all, love remains the “more excellent way” that gives every gift its true meaning.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

As those who love and follow Him, we are called to live lives empowered by the Holy Spirit, marked by surrender, obedience, and His transforming power.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What does it really mean to walk with God? In this message, Pastor Gary reminds us that the life we’re called to is one of relationship—moving with God, not ahead of Him or behind. It’s not about going through the motions or settling for empty religion, but about living in step with the Spirit. Walking with God means cultivating a life of prayer, communion, and conversation with Him. There’s more for us when we learn to walk at His pace and follow where He’s going.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

What if the biggest shift in your life starts with the way you think? In this message, "The Renewed Mind", Pastor Diego unpacks the transformative power of renewing your mind, a process that is empowered by the Holy Spirit and rooted in truth. Because God is better than we think, He invites us to think differently and align our minds with His goodness and purpose. True transformation doesn’t come from changed emotions alone, but from exchanging old beliefs for new ones that reflect who we are in Christ. As 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, your mind matters to God, and it is worth renewing.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

When we trust Him with the process, we begin to live in the fullness of the future He’s planned.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
This Sunday, Pastor Josh brought a powerful word in his message, “The Promise Still Stands.” What if we truly believed that the same Spirit who filled the early church is still available to us today? As we reflect on the power of Pentecost, we’re reminded that apart from Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing. Just as Jesus lived in total dependence on the Father, we’re invited to live the same way. He ascended so the Spirit could come, giving us continual access to His presence and power. This is an invitation to live with dependence, hunger, and a deep desire for more of God.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
This Sunday, Pastor Josh dives into Galatians in his message, "The Life that Bears Fruit", showing us that a transformed life doesn’t come from striving; it comes from surrender. When we walk by the Spirit instead of the flesh and stay connected to Jesus, the Vine, we begin to bear the kind of fruit only He can produce. The works of the flesh point to us, but the fruit of the Spirit points to Him. A life that bears fruit is the evidence of a life shaped by His presence.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Be encouraged, and ask the Holy Spirit: What door do I need to close today?Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
Do you know who you really are in Christ? In this Sunday's message, "The Real You is the New You", Pastor Josh unpacks the powerful truth of 2 Corinthians 5:17—that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. God is good, His Word is true, and it’s in His Word that we discover both who He is and who we truly are. Our identity is no longer shaped by our past, but defined by what God declares is true. In Christ, the real you is made new.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What would change if you saw your work as a place of worship and communion with God?This Sunday in his sermon, "A Biblical Theology of Work", Pastor Diego unpacked what Scripture says about how God designed us for work—not as a burden, but as a way to reflect His nature and walk closely with Him. When we invite Him into our work, we discover that He is with us in everything: what we do, where we do it, and who we do it with. As we do all things unto Him, our work becomes an offering—an act of worship and connection. We don’t have to separate our faith from our work—God wants to meet us right there.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What does it look like to live sober minded and presence centered in a world full of noise and distraction? In this message, Pastor Steve unpacks Psalm 27 and the kind of life that flows from covenantal intimacy with God—a life where His presence is the goal, the anchor, and the reward. David stands as a powerful example of someone who pursued God with a whole heart, but this invitation is for all of us: to lay down our lives, allow the Lord to reset our hearts, and return to what truly fulfills. When we live with clear minds and centered hearts, we’re freed to love fully and walk in the reverence and beauty of a life wholly for Him.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
In this Sunday’s message, "Freedom Through Forgiveness", Pastor Josh shared how the power to forgive flows from the staggering truth that Jesus paid the ultimate price to cancel our debt. The revelation of what Jesus has done for us softens our hearts and leads us into the kind of forgiveness that brings true freedom.Who might Jesus be inviting you to release today?Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Left unchecked, offense can lead to bitterness and deception, distorting our relationships and our perspective. We were reminded that it’s our responsibility to guard our hearts, stay tender toward one another, and choose to see both people and God through the lens of truth. Real freedom comes when we fix our eyes on Jesus and the cross—our unchanging standard in a world of shifting emotions and opinions.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
Who reigns in your life? This Sunday, in his message "Who Reigns?", Drew Williams unpacks how sin and death enslave us through lies, shame, and broken cycles — and how serving sin allows death to rule over us. But Jesus came to break the power of sin and death once and for all. When we let Christ reign, His truth sets us free from the lies that keep us bound, and we step into true freedom, grace, and righteousness. This message is an invitation to let Him reign fully in our lives — and to allow Him to receive His full reward in us.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What if death isn’t the end, but just the beginning? In his Easter message, "The Resurrection Changes Everything", Pastor Josh unpacks how Jesus’ resurrection rewrites every story. He is alive, He is worthy, and His victory over the grave changes everything—past, present, and future. Jesus has broken the chains of fear, conquered the grave, and promised that what God did in Him, He will do in all creation. He is not only alive—He is the Resurrection, and His empty tomb is the promise that death doesn’t get the final word.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Through this meal, He showed us a new way to live—marked by grace, transformation, and belonging.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
Is He at the center? In this Sunday's message, "The Table of Abiding," Pastor Josh invited us to respond to Jesus’ invitation to draw near and abide. Abiding is a life fueled by hunger for more of Him, knowing that apart from Him, we can do nothing. His Word promises that when we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. He’s knocking on our hearts, and the choice is ours—will we draw near and let Him capture our hearts? Will we abide and make Him the center of everything?Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
This Sunday, Pastor Steve spoke on "Travailing Prayer," and the Lord cracked us open. Travailing prayer is about moving beyond a casual interest in God into an authentic, relentless hunger for more of Him. It’s an invitation to make real adjustments in our lives — to align with what God is doing right now. There’s a grace available to go deeper, but the way forward isn’t through performance or striving — it’s through prayer. Not the polished, rehearsed kind, but a raw, desperate cry for more of His presence and power. Are we willing to accept His invitation and be truly awakened?Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What if you’re not just called — but chosen for something greater? This Sunday, Pastor Josh shared his message, "A Royal Priesthood: Built Together, Set Apart," unpacking how 1 Peter 2 reveals our true identity as living stones, being built into a spiritual house for God's glory. We aren't meant to blend in — we are a royal priesthood, set apart to minister to God, offer our lives as sacrifices, and proclaim who He is to the world. This isn't just a title — it's a calling to live radically different, reflecting Jesus in everything we do.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
God has blessed us abundantly—not just to receive, but to give. This Sunday, Pastor Gary reminded us of this simple yet powerful truth: as His sons and daughters, we are called to say “YES!” to using the gifts, resources, and calling He has placed inside of us. Whether it’s praying for healing, sharing the gospel, or serving in the local church, we are meant to pour out what He has poured into us. God never runs out, and when we step into His plan, we live from inheritance, not limitation. How is God calling you to say yes and step into His purpose for your life?Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
What if greatness isn’t about power, success, or recognition, but about serving others? In this Sunday’s message, "Redefining Greatness: The Call to Serve," Pastor Josh unpacks how Jesus completely redefines greatness—turning the world’s standards upside down. True greatness, as Jesus teaches, is found in humility, sacrifice, and putting others first. He did not come to be served, but to serve—modeling a life where the way up is actually down. When we follow His example, we step into a greatness that isn’t about making ourselves known, but about making Him known through a life of love and service.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

The Word calls us to release anything that hinders our relationship with Jesus. In this Sunday's message, "Lose to Gain: The Beauty of Letting Go", Pastor Kristi unpacks the power of surrender and how letting go of what hold us back opens the door to deeper intimacy with the Father. Today, Pastor Josh shows us how we can resist deception by staying focused on Jesus and choosing a life connected to a Christ-centered community. Proverbs 18:1 reminds us that isolation can lead us astray, but together, we find wisdom, accountability, and the courage to walk in truth. Embrace the power of community to live fully in God’s truth, anchored in His love and guided by His Spirit.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
Just like a seed that must be buried to grow, our lives are meant to be planted by God. This Sunday, Drew Williams reminded us that being planted often means taking up our cross and letting go of our own desires. It can feel uncomfortable or even painful, as we surrender to what God wants for us. But it’s in this “burial” that we begin to find new life and purpose. This isn’t just a one-time choice; it’s an invitation to embrace a lifelong journey of following Christ and discovering the fruit He intends for us.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
This Sunday, Pastor Josh delivered a message that reminds us that a life of following Jesus does not shield us from resistance or pressure. It calls us to embrace unwavering faith as we step into our identities as heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven and boldly confront the fear and darkness around us, proclaiming our devotion to The One. Through the blood of the Lamb, who has triumphed over death and the grave, we are empowered to live as over-comers. Let us live fully devoted to Him, shining our light even in the face of adversity.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
The vision of the Christian life is Jesus- He is everything. We were created to reflect His image, to grow into His likeness, and to follow in His footsteps. This Sunday, Pastor Josh's message emphasizes that our lives are not our own- it's not about us. It's about allowing Him to live in us and through us. Through His example, Jesus shows us what is means to truly live: a life fully laid down. We are called to this resurrected life, but first, we must die to ourselves to experience the fullness of true life in Him.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
In a world full of distractions, it's easy to lose focus. But Jesus modeled a different way—He always saw the one in front of Him. Missions aren’t just about reaching the multitudes; they’re about refocusing our attention on Jesus and allowing that focus to shape how we see and engage with those around us. Today, we are being called to step into someone’s world, to listen to their story, and offer the life-transforming hope found in Christ. Take a listen as guest speaker, Marcus Liotta, shares his heart with us this Missions Sunday.Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

However, culture today presents being a devoted lover of Jesus as one who lives on the constant edge of burnout. Maybe some think being a believer is only about their assignment or getting their prayers answered. Yet, in the parable of the ten virgins, Jesus is clear about what it truly looks like to burn for Him passionately. Listen to Sunday’s sobering message, The Wise and The Foolish, on why it’s so important to prioritize intimacy with your bride-groom Jesus here.

Our text today is taken from the New Testament. By definition, a testament is something presented in support of the truth or accuracy of a claim”. Similarly, a “last will and testament” is “a written document, properly attested to, in which a person declares his pleasure as to the disposal of his property after death”.

Life is built with "in between" moments. These moments often build our character and in this week's message, Pastor Josh Thompson unfolds one amazing story from the Bible when Jesus was asleep on a boat with his disciples when a massive storm arose. We hope you're blessed and encouraged as you listen to this week's message.
Training for Reigning
Romans 5
“Unsettled”, “Vulnerable” and “Afraid” are three words that describe the mindset of a large percentage of people around the world today.
While the world wrestles with a wide number of issues without easy answers, it is my contention that the world is being brought to a spiritual precipice of sorts that will precipitate a world-wide awakening of epic proportions!
The chaos of our times is in essence, a clash of kingdoms. Light versus darkness…Good versus Evil…ultimately the Kingdom of God versus the kingdom of Darkness! The ancient enemy of God and mankind will continue to cause the devolvement of the unredeemed toward corruption, violence and tyranny. Conversely, the children of God will show the fruits of God’s Kingdom which are, righteousness, peace and joy!
My purpose this morning is to help us embrace one of the processes through which God is training us for the incredible season ahead. As we successfully transit this dark season of human history, His purpose is that we literally “shine” as lights in a dark place! The Bible speaks of a time when multitudes are in the “valley of decision”, that is certainly the case today. Our calling is to provide “light“, for those that dwell in darkness. Light is very compelling when we find ourselves in the dark!
Chapter 5 of Romans addresses the process God utilizes in producing in us the qualities necessary to become “light bearers”.
Romans 5:17 is the…what… the ability “to reign in Life”
Romans 5:1-5 is the…how… learning to “stand”, “rejoice”, “hope”
Considering the pathway Paul has laid out in the Romans passage, we get a strong impression that we are not going to be exempted from going through difficulties on the road to spiritual maturity.
To illustrate, let’s take a brief look at Jesus’ discipleship program for the team who would be responsible for carrying the Gospel to the world after His resurrection. It was literally a roller coaster ride of incredible highs interspersed with disillusioning and even devastating lows. The amazing “take away” for me is that as we will see, the disciples undoubtedly experienced dramatic spikes of emotion in the process while Jesus transited the same experiences in a calm assurance.
For illustration I have chosen a brief, few hours described in three of the gospels (Matthew 13:54-14:36, Mark 6:7-56, John 6:1-21).
For times’ sake let me just list the events the disciples experienced in an extremely short period of time…
Jesus rejected at Nazareth
Disciples sent out two by two to minister
John the Baptist is beheaded
Retreat to rest
Feeding the multitude
Surviving the storm at sea
There are a multitude of life-lessons we could draw from these three passages, but I want to focus on one for the moment, Matthew 14:25-33.
After the incredible high these 12 men experienced while feeding 12-15,000 people from a small boy’s lunch, they are sent across the Sea of Galilee in their boat only to find themselves in a life-threatening storm! Do I need to point out that they were in the “will of God” in this “near-death” experience?
When Jesus finally came to them in the darkest part of the night, one man demonstrated that he understood this part of the training. Eleven men were clinging “white knuckled” to the boat with one thing in mind, “Please Lord save us from this storm!” Peter, however, responded by pushing his fear aside and requested that he could join Jesus in the “reigning” position, walking upon the very real threats the waves presented!!
Later in life Peter would pen these words:
“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you also may be glad with exceeding joy.”
”Therefore let those that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.”
(I Peter4:12, 13,19)
Jesus’ half brother James added his voice to the same chorus with Peter and Paul, in his letter to the persecuted churches in diaspora:
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
“But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect (“mature”) and complete, lacking nothing.”
(James 1:2-3)
If we can follow the trail left for us by these men as well as Jesus Himself, we may well find out that people (whom Jesus loves and died for) have been watching us from the cover of darkness and longing for the light!
I suspect Jesus is still giving permission to those who want to walk on the waves. Remember the pattern…Trials, Perseverance, Character, Hope!
Also remember this…as I Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, He will not test us beyond our ability to withstand, but with every trial He will make a way of escape!

Be my witnesses.
Acts 1:8 (NLT)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
2. Be Imitators of God
Ephesians 5:1-2
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[a] and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
3. Be Free
Mark 8:34-35
34 Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 35 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
Galatians 5:13 (NLT)
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things

The Insidious Enemy Within May 30,2021
In the process of surviving 400 plus years of brutal slavery an enemy had secreted itself in the psyche of a nation for whom God had amazing plans. Like a traitor hidden within the ranks, it lay in waiting to further sabotage its host!
When the nation ultimately known as the Israelites became so miserable that they could no longer bear the tyranny of their oppressors, their cry was heard in Heaven. God, selected Moses to go on an “impossible” mission bearing a message that would be understandably seen as ludicrous, to the leader of the most powerful nation on earth.
In spite of heavy resistance on the part of the Egyptians and surprisingly, many of the Israelites as well, God extracted His chosen nation from their masters in a miraculous show of power! This once great nation was impoverished and decimated in their fight against God’s unfolding deliverance of what was probably over 2,000,000 people!
This “exodus” from Egypt, as the aptly named second book of our Bible describes it, was in every respect, a 40-year-long miracle! Nothing of that magnitude had ever occurred on planet Earth before or since!
At one point in recent history a former Quartermaster General of the United States Army described the logistics necessary to sustain 3,000,000 people. Although larger than what most scholars believe Israel was at the time this at least gives the staggering scale of provisioning and dynamics to support such a mass movement of people. See if you can get your mind around the Quartermaster’s description of just the necessities:
1,500 tons of food daily…(would require two freight trains a mile long)
4,000 tons of daily firewood… (several more mile-long freight trains)
Water, IN A DESERT…enough to drink and wash a few things (not counting the watering of livestock)…11,000,000 gallons
(this would require a freight train with tank cars over a thousand miles long)
The overnight Red Sea crossing would require an opening of around 3 miles in width so that as many as 5,000 people abreast could make the passage in that amount of time.
Imagine the area required to camp a group approximately the size of Kansas City, San Antonio or Austin!
Imagine the scope and logistics of this mass movement of humanity… Do you think that Moses could have had any idea how to handle ANY of these issues?
Yet, God supplied their needs, sustaining them in every way for FORTY YEARS! Every day was a miracle, featuring a cloud over them by day and a pillar of fire by night! Even their clothing didn’t wear out! You would think these people would have been convinced in short order to trust God no matter what He asked of them!
BUT SUCH WAS NOT THE CASE! Hidden away, deep within their sense of who they were, was a slave mentality etched into their very soul! Before long, the sad truth became evident… IT IS FAR EASIER TO GET THE SLAVE OUT OF EGYPT, THAN IT IS TO GET EGYPT OUT OF THE SLAVE!
Regardless of His faithfulness and assurances that …
” He had brought them out that He might bring them in to the land of their inheritance.” (Deuteronomy 6:23)
The enemy within actually succeeded in nullifying God’s standing promise for all but two individuals out of the entire generation!
The leaders of the twelve tribes even scouted out the land as the Lord had escorted them to a point near its border. They admitted that it was everything He had promised… BUT… there were giants, and that they saw themselves as grasshoppers before the inhabitants of the land! God said they were CONQUERERS, but the enemy within spoke with a familiar voice and reminded them that they were not!
Two men refused the familiar plea to be reasonable and opt for the safety of the familiar hopeless existence they had grown so used to. Somehow, these two men had taken God’s promises to heart. They silenced the enemy within and were now being driven by the same conviction a later prophet would declare in Proverbs 28:1:
“The wicked flee when no one pursues,
But the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Hebrews 4:2 commenting on this period after the miraculous exit from Egypt, points out why the failure to live out God’s promise befell all but these two men:
“…the word which they heard did not profit them,
not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
The horrifying result of this deeply imbedded belief system caused this entire generation of ex-slaves God had rescued, to needlessly die outside their God-given destiny!
I Corinthians 10 powerfully points out the fact that this whole event is to be seen as completely relevant to our own journey after salvation.
For time’s sake let’s look at the 11th verse, but a careful reading of at least the first 13 verses could actually be critical to entering our own inheritance!
“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our own admonition (instruction) upon whom the ends of the ages have come.”
In closing, I would like to spend a few minutes focusing on a very relevant “take away” from the mention of these ancient enemies of God’s people that affects you and me today!
It is actually highly likely that like ancient Israel, we ourselves have been “counseled” by the voice of the enemy within, to play it safe, to comply, to draw back, to avoid confronting the “giants” standing between us and God’s desire for our lives!
Seven tribes occupied Israel’s promised land. God repeatedly promised that He would drive them out in partnership with Israel. The process would occur…” little by little” so the land would not become wild again before they could properly settle it. This probably had something to do with their ability to grow competent in managing the land they obtained. In addition, it most likely would have helped them avoid falling prey to arrogance which would have been a likely to result from a constant string of easy victories.
Apparently, the literal meanings of the names of these tribes are said to come from commentary on their characteristics and behaviors.
These tribes are listed in Deuteronomy 7:1. Afterward the Lord gives terse instructions as to how they need to be dealt with and great encouragement in a powerful pronouncement all the way through chapter 9. Remember, all of this is relevant to us and meant to be instructive to us as pointed out earlier!
Tribe #1 Hittites…This tribe trafficked in terror and fear, broke enemies down through violence and confusion. Many other words are associated like, “panicked, dismayed, broken and beaten down”.
Tribe #2 Girgashites…” to stir up trouble”
Tribe #3 Amorites… “prominence, mountain dwellers, to challenge with words, murmurer, talker, a slayer”
Tribe #4 Canaanites…” merchant, trafficker, peddler, bring low, bring into subjection, trappers, to humiliate in a manner that leads to depression”
Tribe #5 Perizzites… “inhabitants of unwalled villages, squatters, illegal occupants” …Original meaning:” lack of commitment”
Tribe #6 Hivites…” Serpents, compromise, encampment, life-giving, tent village”
Tribe #7 Jebusites… “trample underfoot, loathe, tread down, subjugation, ruin, downfall, to be polluted, heaviness, discouragement”
Remember, it was among these tribes where the spies saw the giants. All these tribes were formidable, aggressively warlike and well entrenched in their homelands for many years. Their wickedness had reached a threshold at which the Lord wanted their influence destroyed and replaced by His people.
We should all realize that like those ancient Israelites, much of our inheritance is being guarded by just such entities. They don’t appear before us on horseback, looking fierce, powerful and bearing weapons of war, but they are there nonetheless! We should consider the possibility that we are unknowingly listening to an enemy hidden within that is being triggered by familiar feelings and fears! We are most likely to find our hidden enemies amidst painful experiences from our past. Most of us have developed coping mechanisms to deal with emotional injuries, rejection, unreasonable fears, disappointment, failures, insecurities etc. Most of these involve avoiding risk-taking and may inadvertently cause us to shrink back from the victories the Lord wants to grant us?
I want to suggest that the solution God utilized to get Israel to act in faith and take on those tribes, giants and all, may be the same one He is calling us to. It involved the death of an entire generation of voices nurtured in slavery! The Apostle Paul declared:
“I die daily”
I Corinthians 15:31
The discipline inherent to a “walk of faith”, literally demands putting the “flesh” to death, this essentially involves closing our ears to the voice of enemy within telling us not to engage the enemy, to shrink away and just survive!
Two statements come to mind, that I would like to leave you with today. The first was something my dad said virtually every time I was ready to give up on something or quit because something was too hard. He would say:
“Can’t never did anything…try did it all!”
The second memorable reminder is very much like it:
Faith is spelled…RISK!
IT’S HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT THE INSIDIOUS ENEMY WITHIN WILL EVER WHISPER SUCH THOUGHTS TO YOU WHEN YOUR INHERITANCE IS ON THE LINE!
So, in the words of a little song we sang in Sunday school growing up:
“Be careful little ears what you hear”
Here’s what I’m hearing:
…” the people who know their God will be strong and carry out great exploits!” Daniel 11:32
You can hear directly from the Father. Pastor Paul Harris shares insight on hearing the voice of the Lord as well as sharing what the Father is up to.

Truth is often stranger than fiction and such is the case for the term showcased in my title today… “influencer”! Before 2015 it was simply used in its simplest form as someone or something that swayed the opinion or actions of another. In 2021, it has experienced a rebirth and now describes someone with a quirky, creative personality or presentation on twitter, Instagram or some other social media platform selling products, ideas, lifestyles and etc. “Influencer” marketing has now been monetized to the incredible degree that it is now projected to surpass $10 billion on an annualized basis by 2022!
This amazing monetization of an age-old reality points out the natural willingness people have for following the example of someone we admire or can relate to in an arena of common interest. These platforms even offer opportunities to interact with and to be a part of a movement or trend along-side those we might wish to emulate.
Attesting to the power our “influencers” have in our lives, Dr. David McClelland , a Harvard social psychologist has stated:
“The people with whom you habitually associate are called your “ reference group” and these people determine as much as 95% of your success in life.”
Jim Rohn, widely held to be America’s foremost business philosopher and acknowledged personal development guru says:
“We will become the combined average of the five people we hang around the most.”
These secular observers have determined from data and personal observation the immense value of the “voices” we allow to influence and guide our development. Knowingly or unknowingly, they are only echoing what the Scriptures have already pointed out!
I would like to state my observations this way:
“The influence we prioritize…we metabolize!” Or said another way: “Intake predicts output.”
Psalm 1
In six verses the psalmist clearly addresses the power of the “influencer” to either bless or curse the life of their follower! This short passage of Scripture brilliantly portrays two drastically different pathways and destinations…
V.1… The path to blessing begins by avoiding three activities:
“Walking” in the counsel of the ungodly… (Original languages define “walking” as, “to behave, be conversant with, exercise, to follow or to grow”)
“Standing” in the path of sinners…(originally, “standing” carried a meaning of “abiding or dwelling continually along with a sense of being employed”)
“Sitting” in the seat of the scornful…( the language here depicted sitting as a judge in ambush, marrying and remaining)
This sequence illustrates a regressive process as a person moves from a more casual interest to full subordination to their “influencer!”
God’s blessing is categorically NOT found along this path!
Note: The “counsel of the ungodly” can come from many different sources (the spirit of the age, education, upbringing, media, self-talk, friends, our flesh etc.).
V.2… This verse points to the path of God’s blessing…Prioritizing and Meditating in God’s Word! Meditating describes a practice of repeating something over and over to yourself while digesting or pondering its meaning. (I’ve always likened it to “marinating” meat. More or less, it’s like infusing that seasoning into the internal fibers to enhance the natural flavor.)
V.3…This verse promises hidden resources, durability, fruitfulness and prosperity! Rather than the “regressive” process described in verse 1,
following God’s ways produce “progressive” blessing!
Vs. 4-6… These verses project the long-term and ultimate end of these two contrasted life choices. The “winds” of life have a separating effect as illustrated by the mention of the “chaff” being scattered and seen no more. This imagery would have left the original reader thinking of the grain that remained.
The voices we listen to are not benign! Whatever “Influencer” we give eye and ear to over time, will most certainly bear fruit according to their DNA! Given that fact of life… OUR “INFLUENCERS” ABSOLUTELY MUST BE MONITORED AND VALUED ACCORDING TO WHETHER THEIR VOICE IS IN AGREEMENT WITH GOD’S WORD…OR NOT!

Joshua 1:1-8 (NKJV)
•Points to remember while reading the Bible•
-When God encountered humanity, rather than yelling from heaven, God made the Word in human form.
-Reading the Bible is different than studying the Bible
-In order to understand what the Bible means we must understand what it meant.
-Read the Bible with God.
-Read the Bible daily.
-Reading the Bible renews our mind when our heart is soft toward God.
-The Bible is eternally relevant.
-Keep it simple

In this podcast, Pastor Josh Thompson shares from his heart the vision for 2021. There are three things that are crucial for the church. Encounter... Being a people who are encountering the presence of the Lord and responding. Being a church who is equipped for the works of the ministry. Not just inside the building, but all over the earth. Being a church who is empowered to go when called and send when called.
In this week's podcast, Pastor Gary Hay looks into the concept of how the Kingdom of God comes. It's rarely ever how we would naturally discern it to come and as we see in history, it's often rejected by people and in some cases the very people who long to see his kingdom come on earth. Unless you’ve been living under a rock or have perfected the practice of emotional distancing, you have probably been feeling some adverse effects resulting from the extremely “toxic” and chaotic environment currently assaulting our senses at every turn. Our lives have been altered in ways that by any stretch of the imagination do not approach normal! Unfortunately, the toxicity of the culture around us can even seep into the church, which ideally should stand out as an island of sanity in the midst of the chaotic and the absurd. One thing is for sure, the kinds of stresses we are currently experiencing are powerful catalysts capable of bringing out the best…or the worst…in any of us! -Pastor Gary Hay

Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am [a]undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin [b]purged.” 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Romans 12:9-21 9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in Spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. 20 To the contrary, if your enemy is hungry, feed him: if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Philippians 3:8
I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
Luke 9:23
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
MSG
“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat – I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way to finding yourself, your true self.”
Matt 9
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. 17 Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.
Is 54:2
Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.”
“If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn form the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference”

Christmas 2019
IT BEGAN WITH A WORD
John 1:1-14
The Christmas story is even more wonderous than what it appears on the surface. Although we can only shake our heads in amazement at the events experienced by the two couples we encounter in the Matthew and Luke accounts, there is more…much more!
The period of time in which these incredible events took place saw leaders and common people alike struggling through an era filled with war, political intrigue, hardship and poverty. Even with the backdrop of wholesale chaos and uncertainty, God was quietly moving heaven and earth with certainty and precision as He readied the delivery of His long-awaited promise.
It is beyond our ability to even begin to comprehend the incredible logistics of how everything meshed together under God’s direction to bring about the incredible events we celebrate during this Christmas season! But what I hope we can take away from the discussion this morning are some insights into “God’s ways”! Scripture tells us that the children of Israel knew the acts of God, but Moses knew the ways of God. In these next few minutes it is my fervent hope that the Holy Spirit will help me highlight a few “take-aways” from this watershed event in history that can move us toward becoming more acquainted with God’s ways. The degree to which that happens will bring increasing intimacy and joy in our relationship with the central character of the Christmas story.
The problems in the world in no way hinder God from making things turn out exactly as He said they would!
Jesus’ own words addressed that fact;
“These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
*the Magi…Heathen Arabs into Astrology?
*Zechariah and Elizabeth…old and virtually unknown.
*Mary… really young, single and inexperienced.
*The shepherds…pretty unsavory crowd!
*400 years of silence
The Christmas story is especially instructive in this regard, considering the individuals He reached out to after His extended period of silence. In essence…No one is beyond His reach and social status is a non-issue!
The Magi…Arab astrologers
Zechariah and Elizabeth…old and disappointed
Mary… preoccupied with her imminent marriage
*Local Shepherds…enduring the worst part of their year
Central to this amazing event in history are some principles observed in the direct interactions between Heaven and Earth. As we observe the Lord embracing these common, people from various backgrounds, whose lives would literally change history, we should take special note of how God worked with these people in bringing Heaven’s will about.
These are a few of God’s ways on display;
The Lord spoke few (but very impactful) words.
The vast majority of the time they were heard in
moments of quiet solitude.
every setting in scripture where significant words
were given to an individual.
motivate them to action regardless of the risks.
behind the scenes that only the “seekers” see
and things being revealed that only the “hearers”
hear!
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”
King Solomon, Proverbs 25:2

The book of Ephesians, in chapters 4-6 provides us with a set of waypoints that we should find ourselves passing through on the journey of faith the Lord has called us to. It is very important to note that these are not a list of behaviors that we accomplish on our own in some kind of legalistic fleshly effort. They are however decisive behaviors that are inspired and enabled by the indwelling Spirit of God!

Decisions Have Descendants 10/20/2019
Whether we like it or not our decisions will populate the future!
For instance, two men lived in the state of New York during the first half of the 1700’s. One was Max Jukes and the other was Jonathan Edwards, each had numerous descendants and a lasting legacy:
Max Jukes
Did not believe in Christ
Refused to take his children to church, even when they asked him to go
He had 1026 descendants
300 were sent to prison (average incarceration 13 years)
190 were public prostitutes
680 were admitted alcoholics
His family cost the state of New York $420,000 by the time the article was written
Jonathan Edwards
Loved the lord and had his children in church every Sunday
Had 929 descendants
420 were ministers
86 were University professors
13 were University Presidents
75 authored good books
7 were elected to Congress
1 was Vice-President of the United States
His family never cost the state one dime, yet contributed immeasurably to our country
The Potential Factor
Every decision will release its energy upon the future!
Our thoughts carry potential and our decisions release it!
As a young boy I was taught to shoot a gun. The fact of the power and range of my ammunition was stressed every time I was allowed to fire a weapon.
The Cardinal Rule in the decision to fire was:
“check downrange- make sure of your target!”
With this in mind:
Let’s consider for a moment…
…Eve beside the tree
…Cain alone with Abel
…Moses seeing what looks like a bush on fire
…Moses, a rod and a rock
…Caleb and Joshua-what to report?
…Abraham and Sarai- thinking maybe Hagar might
be God’s answer
…David deciding to stay home from battle
…A rich young ruler struggling with his investments
…Jesus weighing the Father’s will against His own
… Pilot deciding not to decide
…Ananias and Saphira deciding to lie
It’s plain to see from these few examples that;
The momentous often is hiding amidst the mundane!
It’s very obvious that a different decision in each case would have resulted in a very different outcome!
Question:
Is there any significant personal decision I can casually dismiss as “no big deal”?
I saw a quote one time I thought said it well:
“Life is what happens while you are planning more important things.”
Question: How am I going to live with the pressure, considering the fact that my decisions will have such a major impact on the future?
Thankfully, as believers, we have a massive amount of principles and promises from the Lord that assure us of His ever-present guidance and interest in leading us toward good results. His repeated promises of provision, protection, direction and even redemption and restoration not only make decision making less stressful but potentially exciting!
So, as a first order of business… FEAR NOT!
Let’s look at a very small sample of the many promises the lord has given to those of us who seek His direction…
These three verses provide what I refer to a kind of general “Atmospherics” to bear in mind as we approach a life filled with decisions…
…Psalm 119:105… (immediate and intermediate direction from God’s word)
…Galatians 5:16… (invites us to walk in the Spirit to avoid fleshly mistakes)
…Philippians 2:13… (indicates that God is at work in a submitted heart to provide the desire and ability to accomplish His will)
…Proverbs 2 and 3… (provide a beautiful guide to the attitudes and activities that will result in God’s direction, protection and wisdom in light of the choices we face)
Let me leave you today with a checklist of situations and attitudes I have identified in the Scriptures and in my experience that I hope you will consider when contemplating a decision.
Be careful about decisions made WHEN…
…You’re feeling weary, hungry, ill or otherwise physically distressed. (Esau… Genesis 25:29-34; Jesus… Matthew 4:1-11)
…You’re feeling devastated, overwhelmed and hopeless.
(Job… Job 2:7-10; The 10 Spies…Numbers 13:31-14:4; Saul…I Samuel 28:5-20)
…You’re being influenced by unusually strong emotions.
(Samson…Judges 16:4-20; The Disciples…Luke 9:54-56)
…You’re feeling self-satisfied or flattered.
(King David…II Samuel 11:1-17; Herod…Acts 12:21-23)
…You make assumptions based on previous success (yours or other’s). (Israel…Numbers 14:40-45; Paul… Acts 16:6-7; Seven Sons of Sceva…Acts 19:14-16)
…You’ve not properly counted the cost. (Tower builders…Luke 14:28-30; Adulterers…Proverbs 5:1-23)
…You feel you just need to DO something! (Abram…Genesis 16:1-12; Saul…I Samuel 13:9-14)
…You’re recovering from a major loss or suffering from significant levels of depression or confusion. (James 1:8; I Corinthians 14:33)
…You’re tempted to act out of anger, revenge or jealousy. (Moses…Numbers 20:7-12; An angry man…Proverbs 19:19; 27:4; Absalom…II Samuel 13-18)
… God seems far away due to prayerlessness and broken relationship. (King Saul…I Samuel 28:5-8; Judas…Matthew 27:3-5)
1 Corinthians chapter 13 has been well known as the "love chapter" of the Bible. Many have often applied this to marriage ceremonies, but today, Pastor Josh Thompson rescues this chapter and shares it as its original intent. Love can be defined. It's defined in the form of a man named Jesus and this is his characteristics as well as ours, as we follow him.

Jesus used this analogy to address the concerns of some religious people who were apparently offended. While these words were originally directed to the individuals who confronted Him, they are also meant to burn a truth into our own hearts that we dare not forget!
