Together we celebrate what most call the best episode of the season, thanks to Emmy-winning acting by Hank Azaria, not to mention the stunning direction of Lauren MacMullan. But can this sweet tale of Moe connecting with Maggie survive a whacky third act with the mafia? Grab an orange peel and listen along to find out!

We're joined again by journalist/podcaster Brendan James, cohost of the leftist history podcast Blowback, just in time for an episode inspired by America's wars. After the unexpected reveal that Ned love The Beatles, Bart joins the Pre-Teen Braves. That then leads to an extensive F Troop parody that's a gateway to the secrets of one lead actor on the show. Then it all comes to a head with a line that Fox tried to censor. All that, plus Ralph crashing through a window is born in this week's nondenominational podcast!

We are nearing the end of John Swartzwelder's time writing for the show, and he's turned in a quality script as the show gets political again in 2003. As we go deeper into season 14, we are left with this question: What if you wrote Homer The Heretic but without any of the brilliant satire or insight into religion? You'd probably end up with something like Pray Anything, where Homer sorta causes a biblical-level flood that somehow is canonical. It's time for us to cover another of the most controversial episodes in Simpsons history, and this time it's when Marge takes steroids. It might be hard to believe, but we haven't had a live show at PAX in four years. Why? We honestly couldn't say. But in 2023, we're making our grand return to the famed video game convention to celebrate the 28th anniversary of Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins! And frankly, we'd love to see you there. Check out the details below:
When: Saturday, September 2nd at 7:00pm
Where: PAX West, The Monarch Theatre
And here's the panel description, straight from the PAX website:
Shortly before the first Mortal Kombat movie violenced its way into theaters the world got a brief preview of this cinematic event with The Journey Begins. This direct-to-video commercial gave fans a taste of the upcoming film's first act rendered in cut-rate 2D animation and CGI scenes that make Reboot look like Pixar. And it only cost $19.99! On this panel, join your pals at the What A Cartoon podcast as they give you a tour of the highs and lows of this piece of MK media so you don't have to suffer through the whole thing yourself. As a new Mortal Kombat looms ever closer GET OVER HERE and see how far we've truly come!
This week's well-endowed episode sees us exploring one of the horniest episodes of Simpsons ever with Large Marge. After accidentally getting cosmetic surgery, Marge has a chest expansion that gets a lot of attention. After the show finds every possible joke they can about Marge's honkers, we then learn there are downsides to it, plus the confusing return of Stampy and Adam West to the show, some Hollywood lore on Burt Ward, and lots of immature giggling on this chesty podcast!

This week we're reaching the end of production season 13/starting broadcast season 14 with a tale spurred on by hate of reality TV (not to be confused with the three other eps just like it). Turns out they adjust to it differently in a plot that brings us back to Capital City with some returning season 2 stars. All that, plus robot history, googling Japanese pronunciation, and a couple of fart jokes in a weird episode!

Short version: In 2021 we'll be alternating between season 2 and 12 every week!
Long version: Hello everyone! As you may have seen, we polled our Patreon users to see if they'd prefer that we start our 2021 podcasts by revisiting season 2 of The Simpsons OR continuing on to season 12. The results to date of over 750 subscribers split with 70% for season 2, and 30% for season 12.
While season 2 is the two-to-one favorite, we were reading in the comments some great suggestions and realized there was a happier compromise for this idea. And so, as we explain more thoroughly in the attached podcast, starting next January we'll be doing an episode of season 2 one week, and then a season 12 episode the next. So Bart Gets An "F" will be followed by Treehouse of Horror XI, which will be followed by Simpson and Delilah, and so on!
We also wanted to let you all know we're amending our $15,000 a month Patreon goal. Previously that had been a third yearly miniseries, but we decided a better change would be, in 2021, making Talking Futurama a monthly exclusive podcast for our $5+ Patreon subscribers in addition to all the other current bonus content.
Be sure to listen to the podcast for some more context on our reasoning for these changes. Thanks as always for your fantastic support—we couldn't do it without you!!!
Attention Talking Simpsons listeners! Talking Futurama is back with nine new episodes, only on the Talking Simpsons Patreon at patreon.com/talkingsimpsons!
