Back for its sixth season, the "Pondcast" is a weekly American soccer podcast from the website Wrong Side of the Pond. Listen in to hear D.J. and Jeremy discuss the happenings on both sides of the pond, from the lower tiers of America’s soccer pyramid to the heights of Europe’s elite leagues. New episodes typically drop Tuesdays.
What? It’s totally normal to only record a “weekly” soccer podcast twice during the whole season. And that’s why we’re following up our 12th annual Premier League season preview show with the most natural second episode of the season… our 12th annual Premier League season review show. D.J. and Jeremy once again breakdown the 2024/25 table, spot by spot, before reviewing their surprisingly not-that-bad preseason predictions. Plus, an assortment of thoughts on Pulisic’s absence from the USMNT’s Gold Cup camp, excitement around the Club World Cup, and our thoughts on FC Cincinnati’s offensive transformation.

Nobody asked for it, but the Pondcast is back for a — checks notes — our twelfth season of gabbing about soccer. And just as we have for the previous 11 years, on the first episode of the season Jeremy and D.J. previewed and predict the Premier League season to come. Top four, relegation battle, golden boot, sack race winner, manager of the year, and whatever the hell “dark horse club” means. Plus, we talked about Mauricio Pochettino’s imminent appointment to the U.S. men’s national team vacant managerial position.

No, it hasn’t been two months since we last published a podcast… you just, umm, missed the other episodes somehow. We get how it may seem like we’re suddenly back out of the blue to drop our annual Premier League Season Review Show. But that’s the show in store for you in a totally not-surprise move. And just like the previous 10 seasons before this, the guys revisited their 2023/24 pres-season predictions — Top 4, Relegation, Dark Horse Club, Sack Race Champion, Manager of the Year, and Golden Boot — to see how bad their punditry skills are. That’s followed by Jeremy testing D.J.’s memory of the season with a 20-through-1 rundown of every club’s season. Well, we missed the pre- in the “preview” portion of our look ahead at the already extant 2024 Major League Soccer season. Though we’re sure you’d expect nothing less than that from D.J. and Jeremy at this point. If you’ve been with us for any of our previous ten MLS previews, you’ll know the drill. The guys will rundown their predictions for the playoffs, individual and team award winners, share are our favorite kits, and make some bold predictions for the campaign to come.

A rare new #Pondcast lands in your inbox today, and the boys have a doozy on tap for you. First on the docket is an in-depth conversation in reaction to U.S. women’s national team captain Lindsey Horan’s controversial comments about the depth of knowledge of the American soccer public — or lack there of. Next we turned our attention to the shock announcement that Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp will be stepping down at the end of the season and ask question like “Why announce that now?” and “Who’s going to replace him”. And as some icing on the cake, we congratulate the entire state of New Jersey.

Rejoice: a new #Pondcast! Yeah, it’s been another month since the guys last recorded, but that’s almost normal at this point. But the rarity makes it more special, right?
Anyway, the guys reconvened to talk about the January transfer window and the — flagging? — participation in the annual semi-annual scramble to flush out unwanted players and/or make panic-driven purchases to plug gaping holes in squads, such as Timo Werner to Spurs, Brandon Vazquez to Monterrey, and Mbappé to… well, probably nowhere. D.J. and Jeremy returned to the booth this week (with functional mics) and were given a soccer gift of their own: Big Sam’s return to Premier League touchlines. No, your ears are not deceiving you: that is the voice of one Jeremy David Lance on this week’s #Pondcast. Despite having open heart surgery just five weeks ago, our co-host rejoined D.J. “in-studio” this week to record a show where… we mostly just dumped on his own club. Chelsea find themselves in a sorry state of affairs, and we examined the myriad of causes for that situation. Worry not, we also looked at the analogous situation at Spurs. The title and relegation races also received some attention before we jumped across the pond to American soccer affairs including “El Cashico” giving us an oddball USAvMEX and a look a quarter season lookback in MLS.

Season 10 has been a bit of a bumpy one here at Wrong Side of the Pond, and our recent lengthy layoff is due in large part to co-host Jeremy Lance having to undergo a planned open-heart surgery in March. Luckily, things went spectacularly well and Jeremy is well on his way to a full recovery.
But in his absence, we’ve recruited back multi-time guest host Adam Maloney for a show unlike any we’ve posted in the last 10 years.
On this week’s episode, Adam and I deep dive into our perspectives on coaching. Leaning heavily on Adam’s extensive coaching background in the collegiate and professional ranks, we examine the value of focusing on the mental, relationship, and community aspects of guiding players and teams.

So what got D.J. and Jeremy to record shows in back-to-back weeks for the first time in several months? The impending return of domestic soccer, as Major League Soccer’s 2023 season kicks off this weekend. And for the tenth straight season, the guys gathered to make their predictions for the season — who will be in/out of the playoffs, award winners, and surprises we’re hoping for this year. After an extended absence due to the end of the World Cup, the holidays, a technical glitch on the site, and the FA Cup, D.J. and Jeremy finally convened in person to dish on all the happenings with the Premier League, USMNT, and beyond. And though we’re privileged to not be active participants in the acts of war, it’s natural to speculate how that might impact the things we care about. So on this week’s episode of the #Pondcast, we tried to take a larger look at the impact of Russia’s aggression has had on the world of soccer. What might supporters of clubs caught up in the fracas — such as Jeremy’s long-time love Chelsea and their now very-entangled Russian owner Roman Abramovich — be feeling. The challenges that are being faced by players in the warzone and Russia. And how do we all move on? Together with D.J., Fletcher helped rundown some of the biggest storylines from this past weekend’s Premier League action, including thoughts on Arsenal wriggling their way out of the North London Derby using the covid loophole, the cycle of disappointment continued by Rafa Benítez at Everton, and Coutinho’s Aston Villa debut. And after touching in on the craziness and chaos at the Africa Cup of Nations, we leaned on Fletcher’s knowledge of Detroit City FC’s jump to the USL Championship and the impact that will or won’t have on the locals.

Covid has crept back into the fore, seemingly infecting everyone in sight, and things are no different for the #Pondcast. As a result of a breach in the Switzer household, the guys were back to recording remotely again this week. Things got a little wild at the top of the Premier League this past weekend, with Jeremy’s Blues taking a tumble off the top after a loss at red hot West ham and City and Liverpool leapfrogging them as a result.
