On this week’s episode, Hope sits down with Marc Brackett, Ph.D., the Founder and Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and author of Permission to Feel. He is the lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by nearly 2,000 pre-K through high schools across the United States and in other countries.
This episode was recorded on Wednesday, May 25th, just one day after the terrible tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. We had this recording session scheduled for several weeks, and felt it was important to continue. The result is a very timely and relevant episode that can hopefully help all of us as we navigate this difficult time.

Whether you’re currently in testing season, just finished testing, or about start, it’s very easy to fall into the trap of feeling defined by a test score. In this episode Hope and Wade discuss things that truly define an educator (and it’s so much more than just a test score). We reached out to the Get Your Teach On community of educators to find out what you think define an educator, and we wanted to share some of those responses with you.
We have both lived in many seasons of life where we mistake busy for successful. But busy doesn’t = effective. As we head into the end of the year or the end of a season, we are often flooded by reflection – what worked? What failed? What will I change for next year? But instead of continuing to stack onto your plate, let’s work to eliminate, prioritize, and plan to execute more…better.
It’s never easy to fall the wagon but exhaustion is overwhelming and burnout is real. Usually falling off the wagon is accompanied with extreme feelings of guilt and/or never measuring up to the expectations that we set for ourselves. But the best part about wagons? This is a first for us! It's a Hope solo episode! We are moving into fall and its such a beautiful season to reflect on change, and coming to terms with things that either have or need to die in our lives. I want to share the 3 main things that I what to commit to removing from my life in order to feel more fulfilled and have more peace in the face of uncertainty.
