This Fourth of July, we're celebrating more than political freedom-we're talking about the freedom Jesus died to give us.

What invisible walls are still shaping your life? Fear, shame, rejection, anxiety, or the belief that your past defines your future?

In this episode, Sherry explores the oldest battle in history-the battle between truth and deception-and how the lies we've believed can quietly become the language we live by. Through Scripture and powerful illustrations, you'll discover how to renew your mind, rewrite the story you've been telling yourself, and embrace the freedom Christ has already won for you.

One heartbreaking chapter doesn't get to become the title of your whole story.

Pull up a chair, grab your coffee, and join us at the coffee table as we ask one life-changing question:

Who told you the glass was still there?

You said you wanted different.

Not perfect. Different.

In this episode of It's a Single Mom Thing, Sherry invites you to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and revisit a simple but powerful question: What did you say was important?

Somewhere between the breakthrough and the becoming, many of us get distracted. We get busy raising kids, paying bills, juggling responsibilities, and simply trying to survive. Before we know it, we've lost sight of the very things we once prayed for—peace, healing, freedom, stability, and a different future.

Through relatable stories, a few laughs, and heartfelt reflection, Sherry explores why it's so easy to drift from our purpose and how to find our way back by following the breadcrumbs we left behind.

If you've ever found yourself staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m. wondering how you got here—or if you've forgotten why you started your healing journey—this episode is for you.

Because maybe the answer isn't found in a new strategy.

Maybe it's found in remembering what you said mattered most.

Join us as we revisit the prayer, the promise, and the purpose—and discover that the God who met you in that 2 a.m. moment is still sitting at the table.

When life hurts, where do you turn?

Food. Busyness. Social media. Serial dating. Avoiding the hard things. We all have our "fix"- something that helps numb the pain, distract us from reality, or make us feel better for a moment.

But what happens when the fix isn't fixing anything?

In this heartfelt and honest episode of It's a Single Mom Thing, Sherry explores the difference between temporary relief and lasting healing. Building on last week's episode, Healing Is an Assignment, she dives into the coping mechanisms we often reach for when life feels overwhelming and asks a powerful question:

Can I trust God with the places I've been trying to manage myself?

Through personal reflections, practical insights, and biblical encouragement, you'll discover why some fixes quietly become substitutes for God, why healing requires surrender, and how true freedom begins when we stop managing our pain and allow God to transform it.

If you've ever found yourself running back to old patterns, struggling to let go, or wondering why healing feels so hard, this episode is for you.

Because painkillers have a purpose.

Band-aids have a purpose.

But eventually the wound has to be cleaned if it's going to heal.

You want God's best? Forget the rest. Let Him fix your fix.

Healing Is Our Assignment

What if healing isn't standing in the way of your purpose?

What if healing is part of your purpose?

Many of us spend our lives asking God about our calling, our next step, our future, and our purpose while avoiding an assignment that's already sitting on our desk: healing.

As single moms, we're often experts at surviving. We keep moving, keep functioning, keep showing up for everyone else. But surviving and healing are not the same thing.

In this episode of It's A Single Mom Thing, Sherry explores what it means to accept healing as an assignment from God—not as punishment, but as preparation. Together, we'll discuss why we resist healing, how unhealed wounds can impact our relationships and children, and how God can redeem the very things He didn't cause.

You'll discover:

❤️ Why healing may be connected to your purpose
❤️ How God prepares our hearts before He expands our influence
❤️ The difference between surviving and healing
❤️ How healing can impact two generations at a time
❤️ Practical steps to begin your healing journey today
❤️ Why God isn't withholding something good—He's holding something good

If you've ever wondered why God keeps bringing you back to the same area, this episode may help you see that He's not trying to hurt you.

He's trying to heal you.

This week on It’s a Single Mom Thing, Sherry gets deeply personal as she shares what it’s looked like to trust God through an unexpected season of brain fog, medical challenges, slowed-down plans, and surrendered opportunities.

After last week’s episode Problems to Promise: When God Rewrites the Plan, this conversation dives even deeper into what happens when God’s provision doesn’t look the way we expected.

What if the interruption isn’t the punishment… but the provision?

Through honest reflections, spiritual insight, and real-time lessons, Sherry explores:

  • learning to slow down without guilt
  • surrendering control
  • trusting God in uncertainty
  • allowing others to help
  • recognizing God’s provision through people, redirection, and community
  • and discovering that you are not alone—even when you live alone

This episode is for the woman who feels exhausted, overwhelmed, delayed, interrupted, or unsure of what God is doing in this season.

Because sometimes… where God guides, He provides not through hustle—but through healing, surrender, and support.

What if the problem you’re walking through right now…
is actually part of the promise you’ve been praying for?

In this powerful and real-time episode, Sherry shares a deeply personal look at what it means to trust God when life doesn’t go according to plan. From moments of clarity and open doors… to unexpected disruption, physical challenges, and emotional tension—this episode walks through the journey from promise to process.

You’ll hear how God gives the promise first…
but often rewrites the plan in ways we never expected.

the problems show up.

But what if those problems aren’t setbacks?

What if they’re preparation?

What if they’re positioning you for something greater?

Through honest storytelling and faith-filled perspective, Sherry unpacks the path from:
✨ Promise
➡️ Plan
➡️ Problems (the tests)
➡️ Possibilities
➡️ Promise Fulfilled through obedience

If you’ve ever wondered:

  • “Why doesn’t my life look like the promise?”
  • “How do I keep moving forward when everything feels off?”

Are you constantly trying to fix your child’s problems…only to feel like you’re missing something deeper?

In this powerful and heartfelt episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, Sherry dives into one of the most common parenting struggles—knowing when to offer advice and when your child simply needs to be heard.

“Fix It or Feel It: The Advice Trap in Parenting” unpacks the emotional disconnect that can happen when we jump into problem-solving mode too quickly—and how that can impact trust, communication, and connection with your kids.

Through real-life parenting scenarios—from little kids feeling left out…to teens shutting down…to life-altering moments like bullying, fear, and unexpected situations—Sherry shares how to recognize what’s really going on beneath the surface and respond in a way that builds lasting connection.

This episode is especially powerful for single moms navigating both nurturing and leadership roles, offering insight into how to balance emotional support with guidance—without feeling like you have to be everything all at once.

You’ll learn:

  • The difference between fixing vs. feeling in parenting moments
  • How to help your child process emotions beneath the surface
  • Why kids shut down when they feel dismissed or corrected too quickly
  • How to respond when your child shares something serious or overwhelming
  • How your response today can shape your child’s future—and even future generations

This episode also speaks to the heart of healing generational patterns, helping moms recognize the “hand-me-down” emotional habits they may be carrying—and how to break them with intention and grace.

If you’ve ever wondered…
“Why didn’t that conversation go the way I thought it would?”
“Why does my child shut down when I’m trying to help?”
“Am I doing this right?”

This episode will meet you right where you are.

Because sometimes…your child doesn’t need you to fix it.

They just need you to feel it with them.

It didn’t start loud.

It started as a thought…
one you didn’t even think needed to be challenged.

A voice that sounded familiar.
Comforting.
Reasonable.

And before you realized it…
you weren’t just hearing it.

You were agreeing with it.

This isn’t just a story.

It’s a glimpse into how something subtle…
can quietly take hold.

Maybe it’s not your exact situation…

…but you might recognize the voice.

Because this isn’t just one story.

This is a we thing.

You are not who you were…

But a lot of us are still living like we are.

“I was hurt…”
“I was left…”
“I was the one who didn’t get it right…”

👉 Maybe not in pigtails anymore… but still carrying it around in a ponytail.

But God didn’t say “I WAS.”

👉 He said I AM.

And if He lives in you…

you don’t have to keep living from your past.

👉 I AM rebuilt… I AM.
👉 I AM chosen… I AM.
👉 I AM free… I AM.

Spring break can turn a single mom’s routine upside down—more snacks, less structure, and a whole lot of chaos. In this Power-Up Pep Talk, Sherry shares encouragement from Luke 1:45, reminding moms that sometimes faith doesn’t mean having every answer—it simply means holding onto one promise from God.

Together, we reflect on Mary’s faith while she was still carrying the promise of Jesus and how that same kind of trust can carry us through our own uncertain seasons. With Easter approaching and the days getting longer, this short devotional offers practical encouragement, a simple “Promise Post” activity you can do with your kids during spring break, and a reminder that God finishes what He starts.

If you need a little fuel for your week, this pep talk is for you.

At some point, every woman has to decide what’s non-negotiable — not out of pride, but out of wisdom.

In this episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, we’re talking about the lines that protect your faith, your healing, your relationships, your children, and your future. Because if you don’t define what’s foundational in your life, life will define it for you.

We’ll unpack how we negotiate with ourselves, why silence can cost more than truth, and how your boundaries today shape the adults you’re raising tomorrow.

This isn’t about building walls.

It’s about building standards.

So the question is simple:

What’s your non-negotiable?

🎙️ Move, Mountain | Faith, Authority & Mustard Seed Belief for Christian Single Moms

What did Jesus really mean when He said, “If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Move,’ it will move” (Mark 11:22–24)?

In this powerful episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, we unpack the biblical context behind mountain-moving faith and what it means for Christian single moms navigating fear, finances, co-parenting, and rebuilding after divorce.

This isn’t about manifestation or hype.
It’s about identity, spiritual authority, and mustard seed faith (Matthew 17:20).

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or quietly believing small stories about yourself, this episode will challenge you to stop negotiating with your mountain and start speaking to it.

You don’t need giant faith.
You need alignment with God.

And when you begin speaking truth over your past, present, and future… something shifts.

Move, mountain.

Love doesn’t start with a person—and it definitely doesn’t start on Valentine’s Day.

This episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing is not about dating advice, relationship status, or pressure to be “okay” with where you are. It’s about your heart—and where it’s been drawing love from.

Whether you’re dating, healing, resting, hopeful, guarded, or choosing peace right now, this conversation meets you where you are without trying to move you anywhere. We talk about why people make terrible sources, why your heart may feel tired instead of broken, and what shifts when love stops being something you look for and starts being something you live from.

Rooted in faith and honest reflection, this episode reframes love away from being chosen, pursued, or claimed—and back to its true source. Because when love has a steady source, everything else stops carrying the weight of your worth.

No sappy clichés. No Valentine’s Day pressure. Just a freeing reminder that you’re not waiting for love to begin—it already has.

Fear of failure has been acting like your boss—and today, we’re firing it. In this episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, we’re flipping the pressure of “What do you want to achieve?” into a more powerful question: What do you want to experience this year? Even if life feels messy, heavy, or uncertain, you can still choose a direction.

We’ll talk about the question that exposes what your heart really wants—“If you knew you could never fail, what would you do?”—and why fear of failure keeps so many single moms stuck in overthinking, delaying, and talking themselves out of growth. You’ll walk away with practical, real-life shifts to get moving again: shrinking the step, redefining failure, creating a 14-day experiment, building a Plan B, and choosing courage over confidence.

Plus, I’ll guide you through the Experience Map—a simple 3-step exercise to help you choose one word for your year, picture what it looks like, and take one brave step that fits your real life.

What if you’re not behind…
What if you’re not late…
What if you’re more prepared than you think?

Season 6 of It’s A Single Mom Thing begins with one powerful word: Prepare.

In this episode, Sherry speaks directly to the single mom who feels tired, overwhelmed, and unsure how to prepare for a future she can’t clearly see. If you’re living in survival mode, comparing your life to others, or wondering how to trust God when there’s no clear plan, this conversation is for you.

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 2:9, Sherry unpacks what it really means to be prepared—not compared, and why God often prepares the person long before revealing the promise. Through the stories of Joseph and Daniel, she explores how God works in the waiting, in exile, and in seasons that don’t feel productive—but are deeply formative.

You’ll also hear practical encouragement for:

  • Single moms living without a clear plan
  • Preparing your heart when life feels reactive
  • Letting go of comparison, pressure, and control
  • Understanding preparation as partnership with God, not performance
  • Trusting God when clarity hasn’t come yet
  • Finding hope when you feel behind or unprepared

With real talk, faith, and a little sass, this episode reminds you that preparation isn’t about having everything figured out—it’s about making room for God to work.

And it ends with a question you won’t be able to shake:

What if the clarity you’re asking God for only comes after obedience?

Relationship Rehab Series – It’s a Single Mom Thing with Sherry Chandler

Alright sis, grab your gloves — we’re gettin’ dirty. 💅🌱

Because in this week’s episode of Relationship Rehab, we’re not just talking about soil — we’re digging in it.
And sorry if you just got that fresh mani-pedi, but girl… your growth is gonna require some dirt under those nails. 😏

Sherry’s breaking down what it means to grow Kingdom fruit in real soil — not that counterfeit, Instagram-filtered, “I’m fine” kind of ground. We’re talking rich, messy, miracle-grow soil — the kind with a little poo in it. 😉

💬 In this episode, we’re uncovering:
🌿 What kind of soil your heart’s been planted in — peace or pressure, truth or toxicity.
🌾 How Ruth reaped in a field she didn’t plant — because favor finds the faithful.
🌸 How to stop trying to write your own love story and let God grow one better than you could imagine.

Plus, Sherry’s got a little hands-on homework for you — the Forget-Me-Knot Challenge.
You’ll plant a few seeds (literally) to remind yourself that even when you can’t see the growth, God hasn’t forgotten you.

And for my Cold Turkey Crew — listen, this challenge has not thawed out! You’re proving that when you cut off what’s toxic, God can cultivate what’s true. 🔥🙌

So roll up your sleeves, sis.
We’re gettin’ dirty, digging deep, and letting God show us that the best growth always starts beneath the surface.

📞 Need prayer? We’ve got you 24/7 at 855-822-PRAY.
💙 Join the It’s a Single Mom Thing Facebook group and post a pic of your Forget-Me-Knot pot — let’s see those dirty hands and growing hearts!

Because this week, we’re not planting just flowers — we’re planting favor. 🌿✨

Are your feelings fooling you into chasing counterfeits instead of waiting on Kingdom love? 👀 In Episode 2 of Relationship Rehab, Sherry pulls back the curtain on the lies we tell ourselves, the red flags we ignore, and the soul ties that keep us stuck.

This isn’t just dating advice — it’s rehab for your heart, mind, and spirit. Whether you’re single, dating, or already in a relationship, this episode will help you recognize what’s real, release what’s not, and rebuild on the truth of God’s design.

In this episode, we cover:

✅ Why feelings will fool you but fruit will tell the truth
✅ Counterfeit vs. Kingdom love: what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like
✅ Red flags: pressure, inconsistency, fast-forward promises, and playing marriage without covenant
✅ Kingdom markers: peace, accountability, respect, boundaries, and fruit that lasts
✅ Sex & soul ties: the difference in how men and women bond, and how to break free
✅ A couple’s prayer for realignment back to God’s design

Rehab Checkpoints:

  • Am I falling for feelings instead of truth?
  • Is this fast food or a feast?
  • Does this relationship bring peace or create pressure?
  • Am I chasing chemistry without covenant?

📚 Resources mentioned in this episode:

  • Too Close Too Soon: Avoiding the Heartache of Premature Intimacy by Jim Talley & Bobbie Reed
  • Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

💡 Challenge: Continue your “Cold Turkey Before Turkey Day” fast — no swipes, no sneaky DMs, no late-night texts. If you relapsed, reset. Rehab isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress.

👭 Share this episode with a friend who’s dating, or with your teen before they start dating. Start a Relationship Rehab group chat and walk through these checkpoints together.

Are you ready to check yourself into Relationship Rehab? In this first episode of our brand-new series, we’re digging deep to uncover deception, break free from sabotage, and reclaim the truth of who we are in Christ as single women and single moms.

Why now? Because the holiday season is coming — and nothing tempts us to settle for counterfeits like Christmas lights, cold weather, and a little mistletoe. This is your pregame before the season hits, so you don’t fall into the same traps of swipes, situationships, and sabotaging your own heart.

This week we’re asking 3 powerful rehab check-in questions:
1️⃣ Am I falling for feelings instead of truth?
2️⃣ Am I mistaking singleness for punishment instead of preparation?
3️⃣ Am I falling in love with the idea of love instead of the Author of love?

Through raw honesty, biblical truth, and a little sass, we’ll flip the script on singleness and love. Because let’s be real — butterflies don’t pay bills, sparks don’t heal trauma, and chemistry doesn’t cover character. 💥

And don’t miss the end, where I share a challenge I call Cold Turkey Before Turkey Day. Let’s just say something’s cooking — but you’ll have to listen to get the recipe. 👀

👉 Tune in now to reclaim your worth, refresh your vision, and fall back in love with being singular — so you can stand strong in truth and avoid counterfeits this holiday season.

Have you ever felt like when your heart breaks, the only safe thing to do is shut down? In this episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, Sherry gets real about the instinct to close off when life hurts—and why God is asking us to open wider instead.

Sherry shares her own struggles and fresh lessons from God, reminding us that even mustard-seed trust counts, and that vulnerability can actually break strongholds and push the enemy back. She unpacks:

  • Why we tend to shut down when our hearts break (and the generational patterns behind it)
  • What it practically looks like to “open wider” in everyday single mom life
  • How even tiny faith can shift your perspective and move mountains
  • Why your kids, your family, and even your co-parent need you to live this message
  • A weekly challenge to pause, breathe into God, and take one step forward instead of shutting down

Whether you’re a single mom walking through heartbreak, someone on the fence about Jesus, or just feeling weary, this episode is your reminder: a broken heart doesn’t have to be a closed heart.

What does “normal” even mean when you’re a single mom? Culture may call single parenting the new normal, but if you’ve ever sat in a school auditorium surrounded by married couples, or explained to your kids why your family looks different, you know it rarely feels normal. In this episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, Sherry keeps it real—messy, complicated, and sometimes unfair—while pointing to the faith, strength, and purpose you can still find in the middle of it all.

Whether you’re co-parenting, flying solo, or simply navigating a season you didn’t choose, this conversation will help you laugh, reflect, and reset. With honesty, sass, and hope, you’ll discover:

  • Why culture’s definition of normal leaves us feeling anything but.
  • How faith steadies you when everything falls apart.
  • What your kids learn by watching you live through the mess.
  • Why messy doesn’t mean meaningless—and how God grows miracles in chaos.

This isn’t a life sentence—it’s a lesson in living. And maybe, just maybe, it’s the start of your new normal. Normal? Please.

✍️ Journal Questions from this episode:

  • Where did chaos sneak in and trip me up?
  • What’s one next step I can try (shoes by the door, Sunday huddle, grocery pick-up, teen dinner night)?
  • For teens/young adults: My Win, My Learn, My Next.
  • What’s my hourly rate, what did I spend on food, and what’s that costing me physically, emotionally, and spiritually?

In this episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, Sherry takes it from the court to the heart—literally. Using the game of pickleball as a powerful (and hilarious) metaphor, she unpacks what this fast-paced sport can teach single moms about spiritual focus, mental resilience, and staying on mission in the middle of life’s messiest matches.

Whether you’re feeling intimidated by your current season, frustrated with your pace of progress, or straight-up ready to throw your paddle and walk off the court—this one’s for you.

🎯 Learn how to:

  • Stay focused on what matters (just like Peter kept his eyes on Jesus in the storm)
  • Handle emotional curveballs with grace instead of reaction
  • Recognize the spiritual warfare that comes through distraction
  • Set an example for your kids who are watching your “gameplay”
  • Serve with purpose—on and off the court

👟 Sherry shares her real-life (and real-funny) experiences as a competitive pickleball player and uses them to encourage single moms to keep showing up, even when they feel behind.

🎄 Rewind Episode: "It’s All Relative When It Comes to the Relatives" 🎄

Ah, the holidays! A time for joy, togetherness, and… navigating the delightful dynamics of family gatherings. Whether it’s Uncle Joe’s unsolicited advice, Aunt Karen’s casserole critiques, or co-parenting complexities, the holidays can sometimes feel more like a battlefield than a feast. Sound familiar? 🙃

As we gear up to gather with friends, family, and e-v-e-n the extended crew, let’s chew on this:
“Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict.” – Proverbs 17:1 (NLT) 🍞💨

The holidays are meant to be holy, harmonious, and full of love and laughter—but let’s face it, sometimes they come with a side of stress, a pinch of anxiety, and a dollop of drama. Whether you’re balancing relatives or co-parenting with an ex, setting healthy boundaries is the secret sauce to keeping your sanity and your peace. 🧘‍♀️✨

💡 In this episode, we’re rewinding to some timeless wisdom on:
👉 Keeping your perspective on point
👉 Maintaining harmony (even when the family group text is exploding)
👉 Setting boundaries that honor your well-being and your joy

So, grab your plate (even if it’s just dry crust—peace tastes better anyway), and tune in for tips to make your holidays lifted in love, laughter, and just enough grace to get through that second helping of awkward small talk. You’ve got this! 💪

In this powerful episode of It’s a Single Mom Thing, we reflect on the inevitable storms of life—both literal and emotional—and how they force us to confront change. Drawing inspiration from Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl, we explore what it means to find growth and meaning in the most challenging circumstances.

As my community reels from two back-to-back hurricanes, I share my personal experience of navigating through these storms, the heart-wrenching decision to leave behind my firefighter son, and the lessons God has been teaching me through it all. Sometimes, when we can’t change our circumstances, we’re called to change ourselves.

This episode is a reminder that even when everything around us feels uprooted, we can find strength in faith, trust in God’s plan, and the power to rebuild—not just our homes, but our hearts.

Join me as we discuss how to face change head-on and lean into the purpose God has for your life, no matter the storm you’re weathering.

What if hitting rock bottom could actually be the beginning of a powerful journey towards faith and resilience?

In this special "Salty Summer Remix" episode of "It's a Single Mom Thing," I share my raw and personal experiences—from the heart-wrenching shock of divorce to the relentless challenges of unemployment and health issues. These stories are a testament to the shared struggles many single moms face, but more importantly, they highlight the strength we find when we lean on what I call "the rock," inspired by Psalms 18.2.

This isn't just about surviving; it's about finding refuge and strength in faith, reminding us that even in our darkest moments, we are never alone.

Do you know who you are?

The person beyond the image you see in the mirror, rather, the person in the mirror who wants you to see YOU. The you beyond the figure who maybe still has some things to figure out.

The you in unique.

Yeah you!!!

  • Has the world or even the "good opinions" of others shaped who you think you are?
  • Did your parents tell you who YOU were going to be when you grew up?
  • Now that you are a parent, do you share with your kids who they really are?
  • Do your possessions, associations or associate degrees tell others who you are?

My guess, is they tell something, but NOT who you really are

Join me on this journey of self-discovery into God's "interior design" through body image, the power in the meaning of your name, and even how one 14 year old diagnosed with cancer knew who she really was. Hint, it's not cancer.YOU were created to be you and you have somethings do in this world that only YOU can do.

Are you ready to stand up?

Is it something that kept you up at night with excitement with anticipation of the day that it would come true? Whether it was a song, a book, a home, a husband, world travel, a career, retirement, your figure, or a certain number of figures in your bank account.

But, now, now that you are a single parent….. have you forgotten it or even let it go?

Have you squashed it, given it to someone else thinking it wasn’t for you or even it wasn’t meant to be? Picture this, what if I told you can dream again.

When the foundation of a two-decade marriage crumbles on the eve of its 20th anniversary, the ensuing chasm of love loss and identity crisis is profound. Embark on a heart-wrenching journey with us as we unravel the emotional tapestry of a wife and mother faced with the shock of divorce, navigating through the debris of shattered dreams and a life once intertwined with another. Our conversation traverses the broader societal shift towards late-in-life divorces, acknowledging the pain of both men and women as families reconfigure and single parents emerge. This episode is a raw and honest look at the struggle to rediscover oneself amidst the echoes of a love that was meant to endure.

As the narrative unfolds, we find solace in the promise of new beginnings and the power of unfailing love. Just as the story of Easter delivers hope through the resurrection, we draw parallels to the possibility of personal rebirth after the despair of lost love. With an eye towards our 100th episode, coinciding with Easter Sunday, we delve into the transformative love of Jesus and its capacity to guide us through life's valleys. Offering resources for spiritual growth and support for those traversing the difficult path of divorce, this episode stands as an invitation to rise from the ashes of heartbreak and embrace the dawn of a new chapter. Staring at the empty pantry, the weight of single motherhood pressing down, I found myself grappling with the fear that maybe, just maybe, I was focusing on all the wrong things. Today's journey is a heartfelt exploration of the widow of Zarephath's story from 1 Kings 17, a tale of scarcity and unwavering faith that resonates with every single mom's struggle to keep the bigger picture in focus. I'll share with you how, even when our cupboards seem bare, there's a way to find abundance in what little we have.

As we gear up for our 100th episode celebration on Easter Sunday, I extend a warm invitation to Tampa Bay's single moms of faith to come together for our "It's a Single Mom Thing" class and support group. It's here where we weave spiritual support with empowerment, ensuring our collective journey strengthens rather than hinders us. If your heart seeks a deeper connection with faith or longs for a community's prayerful embrace, join us at shepherdsvillage.com/classes, where guidance and support await to help you navigate your Zarephath moments with grace and hope.

So as we get ready in the coming weeks to gather with friends, family, and e-v-e-n extended family, I want us to feast on this.

Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict. Proverbs 17:1 NLTThe holiday and holy season is a time meant to be filled with cheer, celebration, joy, and togetherness. However, it can also be a period of stress, anxiety, and strained relationships, especially when managing family dynamics that don’t include your immediate family. As the holidays approach, our to-do lists grow longer, our time and energy become shorter, and our patience can wear thin like our hairline. Whether dealing with relatives or co-parenting with an ex-partner, setting healthy boundaries is crucial to ensuring that the holidays remain holy, harmonious, lifted in love and laughter, and balanced emotional well-being for all beings involved.

Learn how to keep your perspective on point as it is all relative when it comes to the relatives.

How many of you listening put your hard-earned dollar, dollar bills in somebody else's pocket based on the label sewn into a pocket, emblazoned on a handbag, or embossed on the side of a fresh pair of kicks?

Let's go one step further.

How many of you tell your money where to go based on how an ad claims where your life will go if you buy this product?

The US ad industry is a 352 billion dollar industry. That is a lot of money trying to tell and sell you on who you are or could be if you bought x, y, z.

But who do you say you are?

So my guess, is you are known for something? Do you know what that is?

Are you wearing a label based on your experiences? And has that not been wearing on you too?

Maybe it’s time to rebrand yourself for a brand new you.

Divorce, difficulty, and desperation – this wasn’t a part of the plan when I said, I do.
In sickness in health. I do.
For richer or poorer. I do.
For better or worse. I do.
Till separation do us part. I don’t.
Hopeless and hurt. I don’t.
Financially devastated and a life of loneliness. I don’tI don’t.
I DON'T, remember any of that being a part of the plan.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Home is where your heart is”, right? So, how many of you listening, if I did a drive-by of your home, would I not find you nor your heart there?

Would it be at somebody else’s place and space?
Would it be busied in a bunch of Bible studies at church?
Would it be buzzing around on a date and a dating app? or
Would it be doing one more DoorDash for some extra cash?

Where you be, girl?

You see, where you be is where your heart is also, and if it is not at home nor focused on your home, my bet is your kids may not feel protected and your house is neglected.

As a single parent do you find that life tends to feel like you are caught between a rock and a hard place?

Not really a comfortable place to be, is it? Especially, if you’ve been there for a long time or, maybe, you recently found yourself there. It is a difficult single situation where you may feel like you are forced into a place of unequal and unpleasant challenges. None of which has an option to upgrade nor one you would want to buy into.

When we live a surrendered life, we learn that there is significance in a single situation. We find our sweet spot in surrender.

So it may not be Christmas, at the end of July, but I do think it's. a season where we all need to find joy in our jumbled mess.

The facts are, times are tough, and not one of us is not touched by it in some way.

If you’ve recently found yourself in a “single situation,” you may even feel more singled out, but that doesn’t mean you have to “single-handily” go on the journey of solo parenting - no matter how tough times are or big your jumbled mess is.

So at this moment, maybe we can’t change the immediate situation, but what if we could change those negative feelings immediately with something better even if it’s not the Christmas season?

Dating and Relating.

Whew, girl, this is a subject that has been a subject of many questions with single mommas whom I have talked to, who, like me, are looking for love and to be loved.

So I am going to go on record and say, this is a tough subject for me to talk about and one I can’t say I am a dating expert in. More like have experience in.

Yes girl yes, we are in the same boat and so before we launch we need to remember who is also in this boat with us. Now, If you are as lost as a ship at sea as to what I am talking about. Pause for this cause and listen to the podcast titled, “Will you get in the boat.”

Then be sure to come back now, you here.

Have you ever had those times in life where you felt like you hit rock bottom? Whether it was by way of a simple slip of your foot, a slow fade where you lost your balance falling backwards to the bottom OR even with intention to just go over the edge as the time that seemed like the best option.

I’m guessing everybody listening can probably say, yeah, I’ve been there. I even have the scars to prove it.

Maybe you are even there now as you sit at the bottom in this cold, dark, damp place, frantically looking for something to grab onto as you look up the tall cold cavern of the rocky, jagged, and slippery walls thinking to yourself, how did I get here?

  • Does anybody even know that I am here?
  • How will they find me?
  • How am I going to get out of this place?
  • Does anyone even care to find me?

The answer is a resounding YES!

That's so fire. A lesson learned from 3 curious and courageous solo mommas.

He wants to be with you right now, IN THE FIRE, whatever fire you are in.

We all have them. These uncontrolled burns so to speak.

Whether the fire started in your childhood when your mom cheated on your dad, someone you dated cheated on you, or you cheated your marriage by ending it too soon.

We all have them.

Someone told you were stupid, you are not enough. I don’t love you anymore. I’m leaving you and I am taking our children with me.

We all have them.

Whether you got burned on a job, in a church even, and your life took a turn that you didn’t see coming. That check-up, that didn’t check out so well.

We all have them.

You can’t live in this fallen world and not feel the heat, not get burned, we all have our turn in the fire, BUT there is a way to not get consumed by it and that is what I witnessed yesterday in these women of worth.

Find out more on how that is possible.

Recently, I went on a mission trip to North Dakota.

Yes, North Dakota and not Haiti.

Funny, a local in one of the coffee shops said the same thing. To use her words, and I quote, “There wasn’t anywhere else in the world you could go to, you came to North Dakota?”

Yep for someone that has never traveled outside of the country other than the Bahamas (that really doesn’t count in my opinion) God sent me to North Dakota for my first mission trip.

So why North Dakota? Why should I care, you ask, and what on earth did you do there?

Relent.

We are all "trying" to deal with something.

A child that has turned its back on God, a family member who can leave their family but not the bottle behind, a bill you have no idea how you are going to pay, a hurt so hard it’s painful to breathe, a job meant for two and now it’s just you - you are dealing with something and it’s stealing something from you. Although the aforementioned single situations are different they are all the same, putting us all in the same boat.

Will you get in the boat?

Does parenting on your own leave you feeling exhausted? Burned out? Irritable ... even angry? You could be experiencing the everyday symptoms of single-parent stress. And while it's unavoidable, your need for rest is something you should never ignore—because taking care of yourself is an important part of taking care of your kids. After all, you're the most important person in their lives. And if you're not 100, you can't give them 100 of what they need.

Single parenting is a journey not just a destination and it requires frequent rest stops!

As a single parent how often do you feel like you are running on empty?

Everyday when you get up, it’s go, go, go and you just go until your light goes out. From school to daycare to work to after school activities, homework, dinner, dishes, laundry, bathtime, storytime, bedtime and maybe some you time.
And that’s IF you didn’t fall asleep while putting your babies to bed.

Now for some peeps it doesn’t stop there.

After your kids go to bed, you go to work on either a second job working remotely from home or you attend school online. All in an effort to either make up for the loss of income, as you are now one, OR you are the one trying to better your family's future.

Girl, you aren't even gassed you are straight up EMPTY!

Have you ever thought about solo parenting as service?

If you are a Christian solo parent listening to this podcast, trust me, you are in service the question is to whom are you in service to? Is it to self or self-less?

I bet you never thought about single parenting that way, maybe because quite honestly you don’t have time to think as you are always just doing or responding to what someone else is doing.

But what are you doing and have you thought about the way in which you are doing it?

As a single parent, you are pulling double duty, wearing many hats, keeping many balls up in the air, spinning many plates, and wearing both the pants and the skirt of the family. Forget about personal pronouns, YOU ARE pronounced both the male and the female of your household because you hold it all together.

Unlike the first time your baby was placed in your arms and in a flip of a switch you just kind of figured out or assumed your mom's role, the role of becoming a double-duty parent doesn’t. It doesn’t become you because it isn’t supposed to be you. It’s awkward, frustrating, perplexing, and uncomfortable trying to fulfill a role that is not yours and, well truth be told, it wasn’t gently placed in your arms either, it was kind of dropped there.

Now in time mind you, as you are forced to assume both the role of dad and mom simultaneously, somehow it does become part of your DNA as if your brain is rewired. In most cases without you even noticing, that switch does eventually get flipped on.

The challenge is knowing when you need to turn it off.

Have you ever asked yourself, what am I waiting for?

So to be clear here, I am not saying sit on the side of the road and wait for the next bus to go by. I am talking about actively waiting WHILE you are dating, even if you are just dating God or yourself in this solo season.

There is still work to be done while you are waiting. So to go back to the question I asked of you earlier, what are you waiting for?

Do you even know?

As a solo parent and a single woman, who never took the time to consider asking myself this very question before I started dating, I just found more of the same in my life.

In this episode discover and uncover what you are waiting for while dating.

In fact, research shows that the average person speaks 7,000 words a day with many speaking more than that. Meaning us women, we speak on average 13,000 more words to be precise.

Ladies, the next time a man in your life complains you talk too much, silence him with science.

Tell him - at length, of course - it is all because of the Foxp2 protein. Which is a long conversation for another time.

Now, according to LinkedIn Learning Instructor, Jeff Ansell, in his course on Communicating Confidently Jeff says, “That our words are imprint on the world.”

So what in the world are we talking about and are they leaving an indeliable wound or are they used as a witness on the world and I’m talking about your small world at home.

As women, I tend to think we like to overthink just about everything. We think so much sometimes, I think we even think for others.

You know, what people should do or exactly how they should do it. So what do you think is behind all this overthinking?

What I have discovered, when I catch my train of derailed thoughts, is that there is usually a high-value outcome that I want and/or am trying to make happen and my” perceived” worth is determined by it.

My desired outcome is now a mountain to overcome.

In this episode we will discuss:

  • How We Measure Up.
  • Obsessing and Stressing.
  • Saying Uncle - learning to overcome when I let go of the outcome.

So I have a question to ask you

If you, could be a kid again this Christmas, what would you do?

  • Would you unwrap the day differently?
  • Would you sing more fa la la’s?
  • Would you eat more cookies?
  • Where your PJ’s all day (oh wait, some of ya’ll may still do that)
  • Would you leave some hairs out of place?
  • Worry less and play more?
  • Would you choose joy over jolly?

Listen, this season is certainly full of jolly, you hear it in all the songs, read it in the cards and watch it in your favorite Christmas movies and there is nothing wrong with jolly except that it’s seasonal. It comes once a year and melts as fast as snow on a sunny day.

Joy is for all seasons and our devotional thought as we close out another year.

Kids want to unwrap waaaay more than just traditional baby dolls, toy cars, or trains this Christmas.

Am I right?

So what about you?

That’s right you!!! What do you want to unwrap this Christmas?

Do you think it’s silly or selfish to think of yourself cuz, what, you are supposed to be playing elf?

Do you think as a solo parent by way of a divorce, that you got what you deserve this Christmas? Heartache, hurt, loneliness, or even debt that you can’t pay back.

Are you hoping for some help, peace, or relief and you think you shouldn’t ask for it?

Or maybe you got this, you don’t need anyone, and you don’t want to unwrap anything someone has to give you.

But what about a gift of grace that's prepared and prepaid just for you available not just this Christmas season, but in your solo season?

**Ready or not, here come the holidays!!!! Or as I like to say, the holiDAZE.

Four weeks of school functions, holiday parties, Christmas musicals, tree lightings, baking, decorating, shopping, wrapping, menu prep, AND your kiddos “must haves”. Four weeks of complete chaos, 28 days you don’t get back, and one major holidaze.

The holidays can create a set of unique anxieties and inner conflicts that are as common as Christmas carols in this season and a reason why many single parent experience what I call, holiDAZE.

So how can we flip the script and make it less feel like a holiDAZE and focus more on the Holy Days?**

Let me tell you. Thre are few things more disheartening to a child than having one awesome story to tell and no one to listen to. If you've been married, you know what I am talking about as I am sure you had stories to share with your hubby and he was checked out like an overdue library book.

As a mom, you're physically there, but mentally you are zoned out! I mean I don't know why, it's not like you are trying to hold the whole household together by YOURSELF! It's hard for a solo momma to put that aside and listen to things that appear trivial or uninteresting.

I Love You, But Please Stop Talking!

Today, we will discuss 3-ways you can stay present...

  • connecting with your kiddos
  • scheduling time for yourself to process and rest so you can enjoy being present
  • managing expectations while life unfolds like your laundry.

It takes courage to participate in life!

As solo mommas, we aren't just heads of our households for income tax purposes, we are spiritual heads of households for all purposeful incoming attacks on our household.

Of all the things we do as a solo momma, whatever it is that we do, that is probably the easing most important thing a single momma has to do in a day. PRAY!

Just as our babies look to us as the one with all the answers, we must look to the one who is the answer and has all the answers!

As a solo momma, you know how quickly the intended direction of your day can change based on unforeseen circumstances and your kiddo's schedules. It's hard work being the so-called "alpha and omega" of your household and how do we hold it all together? Especially, when there is one who wants us to fall apart?

Prayer matters. Prayer shatters.

On Mother's Day, you may soon realize, kids don't realize it's Mother's Day unless someone tells them.

Sure they may make you a card in school, but come Sunday, they forget to get it out of their backpack.

If I'm honest, I hadn't thought about it either when I woke up that first Single-Mother's Day morning, until I woke up. As I wiped the sleep from my eyes, I soon had to wipe away the tears as I thought about how no-one was going to make me breakfast or have cards and a gift waiting for me on the kitchen table.

No-one remembered to honor me that day!!! That Mother's Day was a huge disappointment and epic failure to launch.

Whether it is your first Mother's Day as a solo momma or your 14th, Mother's Day like holidays, can be painful.

Join me as I share four things I learned from one big pity party.

  1. Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself - Have NO Expectations.
  2. Teach to Reach Your Children.
  3. Make a Plan to the Plan.
  4. Feel Your Own Feeling

Together, we will learn how to embrace this new normal as a solo momma on Mother's Day and not just see it as cycle on your washing machine.

As a solo momma, you know what it's like to create a new normal while grieving the loss of the old at the same time, especially post COVID-19.

We were stretched to the limit like Elasta Girl from The Incredibles. We had no support of a second parent and had to find our "bounce-back" as we were forced out of the workplace due to lack of childcare - finding ourselves in a financial pinch, working from home, and now with school in our home.

Nevertheless, we somehow made it work, but how is it working for your kiddos?

We may have been able to establish some kind of new normal out of what certainly was not normal, but our kids will NEVER know the normal we once had.

Our kids are dealing difficult stuff and can easily stuff their emotions if they aren't taught some stuff.

So how can we help our kiddos process difficult emotions during these unprecedented and unpredicatable times?

When you look in the mirror WHAT do you see?

Do you take the time to take in all the traits that make up you or do you quickly cover yourself with make-up to conceal you from you and everyone else?

When you look in the mirror WHO do you see? What is it that you reflect on when you take in your reflection? Do you see every curve, line, texture, tone as an imperfection or the perfecting pattern of a person called YOU!

What disappoints us the most in life is the picture in our heads of how life is supposed to be.

Now picture that, momma!

Do you feel that way when you look at your wedding picture or even a current picture of your family and notice someone is missing in that picture?

Do you find, like I do, that your "I do" you said as you stood at the altar would be forever?

It's not quite how you pictured it, is it?

Today we are going to do a cannonball into that pool of thoughts - when our reality doesn't match our dreams - forming, WHAT, an unmet expectation.

Today, we are going to have some fun practicing speaking our mind and speaking a word that often comes to mind, but for some crazy reason, we do mind saying it out loud.

It's funny how strange how just two letters that sit next to each other in the alphabet can really sit heavy on our hearts if we fail to express it.

So why is saying NO, so hard, and why do we see it as a bad thing as opposed to maybe a YES to a Next Opportunity. Learn more as we boil saying "no" to four next opportunities!

4 Next Opportunities:

  1. Saying No On Your Own Terms
  2. Maybe Next Time
  3. Saying a No That Buys You Time
  4. Full On Stop. NO!

Show Highlight: Learning to say "no" opens new doors to say "yes" to better things and next opportunities!SUBSCRIBE to this podcast on your favorite podcast platform.

  • Are you in control of your life or is God?

In this episode, we will discover how "all that" affects both you and the "potential guy" that you look to date.

Listen, mommas, in this season you have to consider if you are really ready to date, OR are there some things that need to change before you try to change someone else?

So, if you think you are ready to date again or are even considering it, let's toss around six practical tips to guide you through the process.

  1. Your Healing Comes First
  2. Know Your Motivation
  3. Become the Right Person

Valentine's Day is a season and reason why many solo mommas and Christian single women get bitter - it's hard, it hurts, and it highlights what we think we don't have instead of putting a spotlight on what we do have!

So today, we are going to focus on the relationship we do have, and some wisdom that is sprinkled in His Word. He is our hope, and it is He who is preparing us right now for relationships with Him, and the man who is yet to come into our life.

Luke 14:34-35 says, "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile, it is thrown away.

So why would He say such a thing? What does salt do that is worthy of his word to you?

Find out more as we forget the sad and get a little bit salty up in here.

Show Highlights

  • You are single and saved.
  • He is the relationship you are looking for and He will prepare you for the relationship He has for you.
  • We are not capable of loving someone without conditions if we don't know the one that loved us first.
  • We are singled out for His purpose.
  • We want God's best, forget the rest.

It’s instinctual, actually.  So, why are so many of us not reaching our goals?  Because the real challenge with goals is not determining if you want the results, but if you are willing to accept the sacrifices required to achieve them.

Conflict is inevitable.

It happens on the daily, and as Moms, it’s our job to manage that conflict as powerfully as we can. It’s almost a cosmic joke at times, given how much is on our plate, how sleep-deprived we may be, how much stress we’re under, and yet we’re supposed to be able to find our inner “wooo-saaaa” for the umpteenth time in a day and help to model conflict management strategies for our children.

Many single moms are trying to win the game of life as a team of one, and it’s leading to disastrous outcomes. You can’t be everything to everyone and expect to win at anything. Families are like a team. Each individual family member brings skills, personality, and a designated role to contribute to the whole. Each player needs to work together (learning from past history and setting future-focused goals) to ultimately be victorious.
