Intrepita (Paul Stillwell): Recent Episodes

Paul Stillwell

Dark Ambient and Berlin School with a smattering of Industrial and Musique ConcrĂȘte. Toronto based electronic musician and member of The Canadian Electronic Ensemble. Modern modular synths, classic hardware synths, field recordings, software synths, along with digital and analog effects all have their place and find a home in my music. Most (but not all!) of what you find here are rough cuts & works in progress. I hope you like it!

Been feeling very off lately... work pressures, personal pressures, they've had a pretty big impact on me lately and as a result I haven't been making much music. This was an attempt to shake my head and bring me back a bit. I decided to limit myself to Ciat-Lonbarde instruments only. There is a tiny amount of software reverb and delay but other than that it is all from the instruments. Completely improvised, no cuts.

A dark & moody jam... a little droney. Decided to spend some time trying different things out, stumbled across some stuff I liked and pressed record. This has been mixed but nothing was edited out. Improvised start to finish.

After a long time apart due to the global pandemic, Not Your Average Worker Bees (Intrepita & Simple Sineman) got together for a long overdue jam. It felt real good! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it! Many emotions float around in this track; Joy for being together again, angst for the future & not knowing when we will be able to do it again, concern for friends, family, and everyone.

How much fun can you have with just 3 notes? Turns out to be quite a bit! Performed live in one take. Only a touch of compression added after the fact otherwise it is untouched.

This was born of an exercise in learning to get as much happening as possible using the amazing Elektron Analog Keys as the primary controller for my modular system. In use are the Analog Keys sequencer providing pitch, gate, and modulation via a funky sample and hold LFO thing. The Intellijel ShapeShifter is the sound source. the modulation from the AK is modulating FM on the ShapeShifter and the inverse of that is controlling the cutoff of the Synthesis Technology E440 filter. Audio out into Intellijel Dubmix Channel 1. Effect Send A to Echophon and Effect Send B to Clouds.
