I've been planning this mix for months now and so excited about it...so it brings me huge joy to finally get it to you.
I'll tell you about the influences that helped me create it and then I'll tell you about why I envision it as "Fire Island" house music. First, the influences. I was lucky enough to live in Philly during the glory days of clubbing (the 90s). Because of my close proximity to NYC I was going to clubs on a near-weekly basis listening to internationally famous DJs such as Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, DJ BUC (RIP), Hex Hector, Louie Vega, Danny Tenaglia and Morabito to name a few. I was going to clubs such as Sound Factory, Roxy, Limelight and Sound Factory Bar(and of course the Pavilion on Fire Island). Those DJs were the most influential to me -- and largely molded me and my style of DJing from the very beginning. So that's a quick bit about where my influences come from.
About why I envision this music as "Fire Island" house music: It was almost always a guarantee that me and my friends would stay in the clubs and parties until the very last note rang out -- usually in the wee hours of the morning. During the Autumn, Winter and Spring the above-mentioned clubs were the places to be. As the nights turned into mornings the sound would transition to a spin-chilling sound that was laden with pianos, horns and sweeping melodies. Morning music was a thing and it had a most definite sound. It was jazz, funk, disco and urban influenced. During the summertime the center of gravity in New York moves out to the most magical paradise of the Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove. That same clubbing blueprint is enacted at the Pavilion in the Pines. I have been fortunate to spend more nights than I can count experiencing that glory. But it isn't just about clubbing on Fire Island. House culture is a huge thing on the island. One can walk the boardwalks at 3PM or 3AM and it is guaranteed that there will be music wafting through the air. And it's not just any music. It's THIS music. Because this music is melodic and rooted in "real" music...it is also versatile and perfectly aligns itself with not only early morning clubbing but also lazy days by the pool and on the beach.
About this particular mix: I hope you love hearing it as much as I loved creating it. It's something of a tale of two sounds (that perfectly belong together). The first half of the mix is made up of stunning piano house pieces. I then transition into a more vocal-centric sound the second half of the mix that is influenced by that jazz, disco and funk that I speak about above. Every note you hear...started in my heart. As I always say...from my HEART...to your EARS. Love.

Pulling this podcast together was both incredibly easy -- and hard, all at once. Easy...because of how much breathtaking music I had to choose from. And hard...because of, well, how much breathtaking music I had to choose from! You see the predicament. ;-)
If you're a follower of mine on one of the various streaming sites then you you've probably seen that it's been a good spell since I've been able to mix for you. Life has just had so much else on my plate. The good thing though is that through the "quiet spell" I never stop sourcing the music. I go through life with my eyes, ears and heart wide open. The gathering of music never ends. The benefit is that when I do finally find the time to mix...I am overwhelmed with gorgeous music (and emotions!). And now it brings me unspeakable joy to share it with you.
This is a very special collection of music. The skeleton list that I compiled to choose the final tracks from was over 70 songs long. Because I limit all of my mix sets below 80 minutes it means you'll hear 14 of the best of the best of what I've found. I guess that's the "bad" news. The good news is that I've got no shortage of tracks for upcoming mixes. ;-)
This edition features records by worldwide superstars Above & Beyond, Kygo, Sultan + Shepard, Shallou, Forester, Tinlicker, Eli & Fur, KC Lights, Claptone and more. I'd say it really IS a collection of the best of the best in chill and deep house. As always this podcast was mixed with every ounce of love that I've got to give.
From my heart...to your ears...

I'm always unsure of how my Chill sets will be received because it's pretty rare to hear this genre of music mixed into a DJ set. I wouldn't say the music is rare, per se. I'd just say that it being mixed as a DJ set is. But I was always attracted to the melodic and emotional side of music and I have always insisted on having my heart lead the way on my musical endeavors -- so here we are. From the very beginning I tried to stay true to myself and not allow a desire to please the masses cause me or my sound to change. If you've been listening to me for years then you know that my sound is two things at once: nothing like was in the early years and exactly the same as it ever was. Seems crazy, but it's true. I wear this as badge of honor.
If you're a new follower of mine...I ask you to keep an open mind. You've probably not heard any of this music presented in a DJ mixed format. For me...it's both super easy and astonishingly hard to do sets like this. Because this music pushes my buttons in all the right ways...it's super easy to conceive because my heart is the driver. But technically it's almost impossible to mix music like this together. So I have to be crazy clever and creative in how I do my blends. Please do forgive me if a mix or two is less than perfect. Essentially none of these songs were formatted to be mixed in the way I that I do it.
About this music: This is the very same music that I present on my Sophisticated Morning sets, just chugging along at a considerably slower pace (102 to 107 bpm). I've intentionally designed this series to be versatile enough to be anything from "typical everyday background music" to "dancing your way into the late night/early morning hours" music. OK enough of my ramblings. On to the music. As always...I've mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears.

Heart. That's the word that comes to mind when I think about my newest musical journey. I guess when I think about it I can say that I'm blessed to have always been very in touch with my heart and not afraid to share it with others. And that's where you come in. This is a collaboration -- and I'm happy it's between you and me.
As far as this production goes...one would say it's a tale of two mixes. The first part is a breezy chill-house affair anchored by gentle vocals that pull at the heartstrings. These are records that I've specifically picked for not only the sound they convey but also the words that they contain. Listen closely. There's messages to be had here. From there I move the mix into sturdy and powerful deep-heart anthems. The sounds may transition from pop oriented chill house to a deeper and more serious sound -- but the heart and emotion stays intact. I've always been intrigued with finding records that are deep, anthemic and emotional all at once -- and I'm particularly excited for you to hear these new ones.
As always...this set is a gift from my heart to yours. Listen, love & share; It's what makes the world go 'round.

Hello my fellow music-lover. Good to be back with you again after a too-long absence. Life has had too much on my plate and I've not had lots of extra time to create a set...until now. Just in time, right? Spring is in the air. The sun is out. The air is warm. The birds are chirping. And here's new music to match the season.
I'm always excited about releasing a new music project. But I'm particularly excited about this set. Maybe it's because it's been a few months since I've created a set. I do have a good story to accompany the mix. I was actually going to release this a week ago -- but I was having reservations about a couple of the songs on the mix. First, I wasn't really feeling the opening song and I'm a huge believer that the opening song is possibly the most important song of the mix (if there is one?) as it sets the stage for what's to come. Just as I know from the first note if I like a song or not...I believe that YOU should know from the first note of my set whether you are going to like the journey (or not). There was also another song or two later in the mix that didn't quite gel with the rest of them. So....I held off and didn't push the mix out. Fast forward to yesterday morning and I was on a call with my friend Michael Rackley and...as we always do...we started talking about music. We're DJs. What else are we supposed to talk about? ;-) He asked me if I had heard the new Galantis acoustic mix of Becky Hill's "Run". I hadn't! He the asked if I had heard Gryffin's new collaboration with OneRepublic "You Were Loved". I hadn't heard that either. Well, there you go. There's your first two songs on the set. Thank you Michael for solving the problem of what to open my set with. It's a big and powerful heart-tugging acoustic anthem and I hope that you love it as much as I (WE) do. From there I weave my way through my signature deep house soothers that segue into uplifting vocal anthems that again segue into driving spine-chilling instrumental masterpieces. They segues are subtle; you will hardly notice as I push the energy and intensity higher. If you're a Flagger...your Flags are going to end up in whipped excitement. If you're a Dancer....your hands will reach for the sky. Eyes closed. Hands high.
As always this music project is an act of LOVE. Every note, tone and word you hear is rooted in Love. From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY.
PS: One of you turned me on to the third song "Starlit Afternoon" by Craig Strickland and I can't remember which one of you did. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for doing so. I'm in love with it and it's on constant rotation with me. AMAZING.

Of all the music that I mix and present it's the heartfelt deep house music that I love the most. And it's been more than three months since I released a Sophisticated Morning set -- so I'm crazy excited to bring this new edition to you. This mix has music by the best and most current chill and deep house artists, producers and remixers including Forester, Shallou, GoldFish, Matoma, Zak Abel, Robin Schulz, Alle Farben, KC Lights and even Bono & The Edge of U2 fame. I start the mix in my signature emotionally warm and rich sound and slowly ramp the mix up into euphoric deep house anthems that will have you dancing, flagging, tapping, shimmying, wiggling and smiling ear to ear. And with that...let's get on to the music. Every song on this set was mixed with love and originated from my heart -- so settle in and prepare for a euphoric heart trip! As I always say...from my HEART...to your EARS.

Let me tell you an awesome story. I played Epic Maui Journey on the beach every year for 7 years (until 2021 of course) and we were hoping for its return in 2022. Unfortunately because of restrictions on Maui that were lifted too late to give most people time to plan we weren't able to pull together an official party again. But 2020 and 2021 being what they had been (especially to me personally) I decided to go ahead and go to Maui this year -- official party or not. I assumed it would be a very small gathering of maybe 10 of us. It mattered not. I wanted to be on Maui with Billy and the few friends I knew were going. Imagine my surprise when I got there and realized that several dozen of our closest friends had made the journey to experience the magic. We were smart enough to have a large enough of a sound system that we were able to permeate the beach with outstanding sound -- something we knew was a must even if there had been only 5 of us on the beach. Amazingly enough...even though there was no party per se...well, one happened anyway. There must have been between 50-75 of us on the beach that day and the same magic happened as it always does. The music was loud, the love was abundant and the magic was real. One very special thing that got to happen this year was that I was not held captive behind the DJ booth performing live. There was no live set from me; only pre-recorded music that then allowed me to play and frolic with my friends and allowed me to see this party through their eyes and experience it just as they always have. Wow. Let me tell you what a rare and magical experience it is. I always knew it was. But to experience it from "the other side" of the DJ booth was very special for me (and something I'm actually considering for next year). More on that later. Originally Billy and I had decided that this year would not be called EMJ8 because it wasn't official. But upon it happening the way it did we have decided that we would in fact called this year #8 and next year #9. But because of the outpouring of love and support from so many people the party really did happen - if only a little different this year. So....prepare for number NINE next year. ;-)
Now...about this music: Sunsets are serious business. They are big, powerful and mysterious. Knowing that I decided to pre-record one set for the hour of the day that is most special to me (and surely everyone else there) and call it The Golden Hour. These are the hours where late afternoon is awash in a golden hue that is almost indescribable. So it was important to me to put together a big, powerful and mysterious soundtrack to match the big, powerful and mysterious show that the Sun was giving us. And now that recording is my gift to you. It's important to keep the scenery in mind as you listen to this set. I specifically chose these songs for how they would affect us in that very moment. These are songs that were chosen to pull at our heartstrings as the giant golden globe was casting it's mysterious glow upon us as it slipped below the horizon of the Pacific. And as it slipped below the horizon we all burst into thunderous applause -- and all was right with the world -- if just for that very moment. From my heart -- to your ears.

Here is New Year's Eve in Detroit -- Part 2. I should note that the four parts that I'm going to upload don't flow together seamlessly. They all have quite distinctive feels that are quite different from the others. Since these are samplers of what the night would have sounded like live I wanted to neatly orchestrate these podcasts so that they would showcase various points in the night. In this sampler I showcase melodic tech and progressive house with wicked percussion riding along rolling baselines, shiny horns and infectious grooves. The mix eventually gives way to vaguely familiar rhythms and melodies -- all while still keeping the sound firmly rooted in today. I would say that this is a set that has an amazing energetic foundation while still keeping an uplifting overall feel. As always...every sound, rhythm and vibe originated in my heart! From MY heart -- to YOUR ears!

Conceptualizing the music for Alan Brown's New Year's Eve party in Detroit was an incredible endeavor in joy for me as I got to get really creative with the musical journey. I should note that this is not a live recording. Unfortunately this party was cancelled at the last minute due to the omicon varient but we thought that the music should still be heard -- live or not. That being said...if you've been listening to me long enough then you know that I treat my live performances as journeys that create a clearly defined music arc. All-night affairs like this give me the elbow room to weave through different genres from the beginning and through the rise, peak and post-peak phases of such a party. Detroit having it's place in history as Motown...I would have been remiss to not throw in both subtle and unsubtle references to Motown. So for this beginning set I conceptualized a vaguely familiar (yet fresh) sound that included hits by the BeeGees, Michael Jackson, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa and more. Remixers include Purple Disco Machine, Tensnake, Barry Harris and more to create a sound of disco-centric house, nu-disco and full on uplifting house music. This sound is just familiar enough to allow the crowd to feel nostalgic for yesteryear while being fresh and current enough to be firmly planted in the sound of today. Now...on to the music. I hope you love this groovy and uplifting set. From my heart....to your ears -- ENJOY!

One of the awesome things about having been around and immersed in music for as long as I've been is that I know songs from years ago and the general history of music that surrounds those songs -- and that knowledge guides me through my current musical projects. One of my major sources of joy is finding new remixes of songs from years ago that are fresh, intriguing and current with the times. And with that I'm super excited to bring you Sophisticated Morning 84. This set follows my tried and true template by starting out chill and emotionally warm and then slowly and subtly building in intensity until my listener has arrived into full blown feel-good anthems. On this set I am really excited to bring you the new Seal release called "Just A Ghost". I always loved his voice and am so happy to hear that he's still gracing us with his brilliance and beauty. My three stunning recognizable finds on this edition are "On The Beach" by York (originally by Chris Rea), "This Is Your Life" (a stunning morning house classic from the 90s by Banderas) and last, but not least, the stunning, powerful and spine-chilling 2021remix of "Silence" by Delerium. By the time you finish listening to this set...I hope you'll have the same blissed out chill bumps that I got time and again while composing this DJ set. As always...this project was made with every Love I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears.

I was lucky enough to have come of age during the glory years of the 90s when clubbing was in it's youthful years and it wasn't pounding beats far into the next morning/day. During those years the transition from late night to the early morning hours at clubs and parties were notable for the slowing of the BPM tempo as the music settled into a melodic and emotionally-rich groove. One could hear and dance to the most spine-chilling music imaginable as the DJ (me) slowly allowed the crowds to come down from the ecstatic euphoria from the peak of the night. Those morning time hours were and still are my favorite aspect of the journey. Fast forward to now: these Sophisticated Chill sets are largely a result of my having come of age during that time and are my nod to it all. One important note is that all the music on these sets is fresh and new. Although the style of music is a nod to the past...the actual music is a nod to the here and now. Times have changed and I have changed too. But what hasn't changed is my commitment to providing you, my listeners, touching and emotionally uplifting music whether you be on a dance floor at 6AM or you're cleaning your house, going for a run, Flagging in your living room or driving home from a long day at work. This is music that transcends atmospheres. I hope that you receive it with as much joy as I give it after having conceived and composed it. This is my gift and my labor of love for you. From my heart...to your ears. Enjoy!

On all of my DJ sets I always have one or two songs that are my absolute favorites from the bunch; the songs that I listen to on repeat, over and over and over again. Well...almost unbelievably...there are about 6 or 7 of those songs on this new Morning set. These are songs that would have a legitimate shot at my "record of the year" title. Sometimes...luck, fate and circumstances deliver me the opportunity to deliver one of the very, very, VERY special sets of music that stands out amongst all of them...and that is what has happened with this set. Regarding the actual music...you might could say this is a tale of two mixes. The first half is full of emotional deep house ballads and anthems that yank at one's heartstrings and send emotions soaring. The second half bounds into powerful progressive house anthems, some with vocals, some so powerful that no vocals are needed. All pieced together...I believe that it's one of my best compositions in a long long time. I dearly hope you'll agree. As I always say...from my HEART...to your ears. Enjoy!

I have always been a huge fan of many different genres of music and that's been a real blessing to me as a person but in some regards I consider it a slight curse -- as an artist. Let me explain that so that it makes sense. Personally I love many different genres of music -- some that might surprise you. I love disco, tech house, techno...and the list goes on and on and on. You probably don't know me much for those sounds because I don't push them forward very often in my podcast sets. What you probably know me most for is my chill and deep house sets. I decided a good few years ago that it was important that I try as hard as I could to "brand" myself in a particular way...so as to not confuse the listeners who came upon me. Artistry is important but branding is also extremely important. As an artist one never wants to confuse their audience. So...I decided to work hard to "stay in my lane" since it was one that I love passionately and consider myself to be pretty good at. If you listen to my (Sophisticated) Morning, Deep and Chill sets you will hear direct similarities in them. They all fit nicely together running what I call "parallel to the dance floor". They are kind of dance floor friendly....but also kind of not.
All that being said...I AM a child of the dance floor. I love to dance and I love to DJ to dance floors. That brings me to this newest podcast, Fire Island House Music 8. Every summer I have released a Fire Island House Music set because I love house music so much and as a gift to my many listeners who I know love it as much as I do. Two weeks ago I released #7 in this series and was totally blown away by the outreach from my listeners in response to it. I actually can't remember the last time I received response like this to a music set. I've had phone calls, direct messages and even had people calling me through Facebook Messenger.
House and disco house are what I mainly spin at my live performances but feeling and seeing your response to that last Fire Island House set has motivated me to start pushing more of them out via podcast. If I confuse a person or two....well, so be it. I'm going to listen to you (and my heart). From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY!

If you've ever been to either the Pines or Cherry Grove on Fire Island...then you've been blessed to experience what I say is the closest thing to heaven on earth. Fire Island is truly a place like no other.
Starting with the moment you get onto the ferry in Sayville to carry you over and continuing on with every single moment you're there...there's something magically different about it. That difference definitely includes the music. And no matter the time -- 3AM or 3PM -- as you walk you'll ALWAYS hear music wafting through the air from the stunning houses that dot the boardwalks. And we're not talking just any music. It's OUR music. There's a very particular sound that permeates the island. What is that sound? Well, I'd say it's classic house music with major influences from soul and disco. This is house music that has stunning melodies, rhythms and vibes. It's sometimes sweeping and soaring, sometimes laden with gospel choirs and sometimes groovy and hip shaking. But what it always is is classic and timeless. It's versatile enough that it's perfect for lazy days by the pool or for hands-in-the-air nights at the club.
Every year as Summer shines upon us I mix this set with a nod to the island. For those of you that have experienced this magic...then you know what I've just described is magically true and accurate. And if you haven't experienced it...then I hope that you can close your eyes and visualize the beauty of the island as the mix plays along. As always, I've mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears. ENJOY!!!

You hear me talk a lot about what I call "heart-tuggers"; songs that pull at your heartstrings. I've always had a weak spot for those types of songs because I find music so much more enjoyable when the songs I'm listening to really pull some sort of strong emotion from me. Really, what's the point of music if it isn't going to affect us (and hopefully for the better)? All that being said...I'm happy to say that this new edition of Sophisticated Morning is full of those blissful heart tugging masterpieces. These are songs that will lead you to dream and surround you with warm and happy love. As always, I've gone out of my way to bring you the most current and trending artists of the day including Coldplay, London Grammar, The Midnight, Emmit Fenn and more. And I always post my track listings so that you may dig in and discover more from these artists yourself. I hope that my collection of heart tuggers touches and overwhelms you with love. And as I like to say...it's all from my heart...to your ears. ENJOY!

With this new Deep episode I am beside myself with excitement by the messages that the Sprit has brought to me...and I therefore get to bring to you. As is the usual case there are very few vocals to be found on this (Deep) mix. But I do open with two vocal pieces."Wide Eyed" by Double Touch and "Music Is My Medicine". The lyrics on both pieces just spoke to me so powerfully so I broke my "no vocals on my Deep series sets" and am happy I did so. Upon listening I'm sure you'll get it. From there I glide through the most sublime, mysterious, entrancing and exotic pieces of melodic house, gently pushing up the energy as the set progresses. The Spirit and my heart guided this project. My hope is that you hear it...and FEEL it. Now...on to the music. From my heart...to your ears. ENJOY!

I've always believed that the job is a true artist DJ is like walking a tightrope in that it's imperative to deliver music to listeners that they easily latch on to and identify with while at the same time staying true to the artistry aspect of it all by playing fresh and unique music that has a great air of surprise and mystique to it. It's always a delicate balance. Play too much of the music that's easy to latch on to and the DJ risks being more juke box than artist. Play too much unique and unknown music and the DJ risks alienating his audience by not giving them the vague familiarity that almost all of us seek in our experiences. Those facts are always on my mind. I want to be the perfect artist DJ for you by delivering fresh, new and unknown music to you while still including you in the process by finding things that you yourself know. That brings me to this, my newest DJ mix. I believe I've found the perfect balance here in bringing you the best in both "known and unknown". This set includes the outstanding new remake of the Cyndi Lauper's classic "True Colors" by Sam Smith, a breathtaking new remake of "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses, fresh new remixes of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and "Living On My Own" by Freddie Mercury. All surrounded by the most gorgeous and emotionally-rich chill and deep house of today. My goal has been to pull at your heartstrings...and I dearly hope to have succeeded. As always this set originated in my heart. And as my saying goes...from my heart...to your ears. ENJOY.

When I first started DJing in my early 20s I had no idea of the magical ride I was about to embark upon. Few things seem to be forever, but one thing that I've discovered as the years have rolled along...is that there are two things that have been "forever" in my life: my drive to deliver love and joy through music and also the enduring friendships that I share with so many of you through that music. To say I'm grateful for both would truly be the greatest understatement ever made. So...let me thank you for sharing this incredible life journey with me by delivering another set to touch your heart. I sometimes pinch myself to make sure it's all real. Luckily..it IS. OK. Enough of my mushy talk. Let's get on to the music. This latest Chill mix is a collection of what I call "heart-tuggers". These songs get right down into your core, touching you in the most happy and loving way. I hope you agree with me when you listen...and that a sense of peace and joy overwhelms you. As always...I mixed this set with every ounce of love that I've got to give; from my heart...to your ears. ENJOY!
I've been thinking about life lately; where I've been, where I am and where I'm going. I've been thinking about the musical traditions and history that involve our gay culture and subculture. I consider myself so fortunate to have come of age when I did. The second Summer of Love from the summer of '88 had recently happened and ballooned into a full-on worldwide phenomenon resulting in music that was being produced at the time that was melodic, heartfelt and emotionally rich. Those were the "golden years" musically. I entered gay (sub)culture in the mid-90's and I was largely shaped by Susan Morabito, Michael Fierman, BUC, Jimmy Gomez, Sasha, John Digweed, the Brothers In Rhythm and too many more to count. These were (are) DJs that taught me to tell stories through music. Music ended up changing as the decade moved along, but I didn't (musically). So that's where I was. But where am I now? I'm proud to say very much the same place I always was. That being said...I pride myself on playing only new releases by current superstars or emerging artists. So I'm constantly looking backwards with a remembrance of the traditions and history that I came from but with my eye firmly on the who and what of now. Where will I will be in the future? I can't say exactly. But if history serves as a guide....I do know. Exactly.

One of the best things that 2020 brought me...was my discovery of "the" sound for my Deep series. If you've listened to me long enough then you'll know that there's a wide range of styles of music that I love. As a music lover, that's awesome! But as an artist it's not great as it pertains to defining my "brand". When I conceptualized the Deep series...I knew I wanted something, well, deep. But deep house music takes on many forms. The first 8 episodes of this series were a variety of styles within the deep house category. I wouldn't say there was a defined style yet. I was still searching (even though I may not have even known it at the time). Then I mixed #9 and that changed everything. As it turned out...#9 had a very specific sound to it. It was ethereal, and entrancing, exotic and enchanting. As I studied it upon it's completion I was blown away. It was intentional and accidental, all at once.
Fast forward to now; it is all my pleasure to bring you Deep 15. I wanted to bring a little surprise to my followers who were on my dance floors in the 90's so I dug up the classic "Beachball" by Nalin & Kane, assuredly one of the most notable international dance hits of the decade. And from there I float through brand new melodic and organic house, bringing up the intensity ever so gently so that by the time the episode is coming to a conclusion you have arrived into full on Melodic anthems without even realizing it. For this I'm very proud. The first half of the mix is somewhat subdued, with an introspective and entrancing feel to it. The second half is sometimes mysterious and symphonic, sometimes worldly and tribal. I hope you enjoy this little trip around the world I take you on. You'll know what I mean when at one moment you feel as though you're in feeling the serenity of a seaside village and the next you've been transported to the enchanting lands of the Middle East. This trip was brought to you with all the love I've got to give. Share it freely, share it widely. It is my gift to you and our shared universe. From my Heart...to your ears. ENJOY.
This new edition in my Sophisticated Morning series is extremely special to me (and I hope it will be to you too). If you've been following me long enough or if you know me well then you'll know that I look at my musical endeavors as much more than me just serving beats to people wanting to party. I think of my music as serving a greater purpose so I go out of my way to have my music deliver messaging, whether it be consciously or subconsciously. Interestingly enough there are several songs on this edition that found me; I didn't find them. The words were so specific to this moment in my life that I was almost bewildered that they could have come to me exactly when they did. That being said...please, PLEASE listen closely to the words on this edition. Some are songs that spoke to me at this moment in my life and some are my love songs to you, my friend. I would be remiss if I let this moment pass and not say thank you to many of you who love me and supported me through the last couple of months. I always knew there was a special bond between us...but I gained an even greater understanding of that bond through this moment in life. Thank you for the love that you showered me with and the support you gave me when I needed it most. I hope that you'll let me give that love back to you in the best way I know how...through this gift of music. With love, Me.

What a gorgeous collection of songs this newest Sophisticated Morning is. I start the set out with the heart-tugging acoustic mix of "All On Me" with Andreas Moe on vocals (produced by Armin van Buuren) and then weave my way through warm and emotionally rich morning music before subtly ending up on a sound of gorgeous and uplifting trance music. Have you been following me long enough to have been on my dance floors back in the 1990s? If you have been then you'll know that I have a big love of trance music. And if you haven't been along for the ride with me that long....well, now you know! There are elements of trance in all of the songs towards the beginning of the set and elements of morning music in all of the latter trance pieces -- so the trip is smooth and subtle. These are songs with emotional chords, melodies and rhythms that will pull at your heartstrings no doubt. I hope that you receive as much joy as you listen as I did conceiving the set. As always this DJ mix comes to you with all the love Ive got to give. From my heart...to your ears!

Life and it's goings on will make it so that there will sometimes be slightly longer stretches between my podcast uploads than I would like there to be. That being said thank you for your patience as we just went through one of those stretches. I am super happy to end our recent "music drought" and bring to you Sophisticated Morning 77. I start this edition out with a warm, melodic and laidback vibe and slowly ramp the energy towards a crescendo at the end of the mix. Visualize this mix as an arc. There is no straight line here. Each song subtly builds in energy until before you know it you're hearing full-on anthems. This set is versatile and would be perfect for anything as varied as late night dancing with your friends to working out at the gym or driving in the car. I hope you enjoy the uplifting vibes I've brought you. Every sound you hear originated in my heart and was mixed with every ounce of love that I've got to give. From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY.
It's a fine line that I walk as it pertains to keeping the sound of the various mix series podcasts that I release constant and steady, especially with the Sophisticated Deep series. It's super important that I keep the sound tightly confined within the genre that the series belongs to but equally important that I present enough diversity that the mixes don't become stale or all sound alike. That brings us to Sophisticated Deep 14. This one presented me a particular challenge in keeping the sound consistent from beginning to end because of how unique the song selections are. I think I succeeded and hope that you'll agree. These songs are as unique as you'll hear; sounds that are blues-y and twangy at times and exotic and Middle-Eastern sounding at others. I believe that the end result is a rich and nuanced musical smorgasbord. This is a sound that is versatile; perfect for dancing into the wee hours of the morning or as the background music to your daily routine. You pick. As always, this episode is mixed with the most joy and love humanely possible. From my heart to your ears...ENJOY.

If you are reading this then most likely you were no stranger to dance floors and the beautiful music that has graced us over the past decades. One of the best things about music is its ability to take us back to a particular time and place as though it were just yesterday. So on that subject I'm really happy to bring you the newest edition of Sophisticated Morning. There are 15 songs presented here. Five of them are instantly recognizable classics. And six of them will be recognizable to you if you were on a dance floor in the 90s (and really paying attention). And seven of them will be recognizable to you if you really REALLY know music. So that makes my newest release an awesome trip back in time. These are newly released and refreshed versions, not the originals. So I hope that you enjoy all those memories mixed in with all these amazing new chill house records to take you on the perfect trip. As always you've gotten every ounce of love I've got to give mixed into this set. In other words you're about to hear my mixed...EMOTIONS. From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY!

One of most important ingredients in the DJ/listener relationship is trust. I believe that the most successful DJs are the ones that figure out how to convince a crowd to trust them so that they may have the liberty of being a true artist -- versus being a human juke box that plays what is demanded of them. Playing what's demanded of me always seemed so boring -- and insulting truthfully. I would much rather stand my ground, play from my heart and while doing it build a following of listeners that trust me to lead them somewhere mysterious -- and beautiful. And because I know that people are trusting me it makes me take the responsibility that much more seriously. While I am an artist and I insist on creating a distinctive sound...it is also true that I myself am molded by outside influences. One influence that touched and affected me almost more than any other that I've ever encountered is the Burning Man community. 2016 was my first year and I was blessed with playing both at FunkyTown camp and also on BAAAHS on the deep Playa. If you're a Burner then you know exactly where I'm coming from here. Why am I telling you all this? Because it's all directly related to my new Sophisticated Deep 13 mix. Upon listening to this set you will hear faint touches of the Playa. It's not in-your-face obvious, but it's there. If you've been following me enough then you know that a chill and loving beat is what I'm all about. I've been a DJ for over 25 years now and I've ALWAYS been known for "morning music" -- that sound that captures your heart and your soul. This is not party music (very much by design). It's songs, without words, that don't need words. It is firmly rooted in the late night/early morning hours. I believe that if one concentrates closely enough that they will extract powerful messages -- no words needed. What are the messages in this music. I'll let you decide but for me...It's all about love and peace and spirituality. Thank you for trusting me enough to share it with you (and I hope I don't let you down). Now...enough of my babbling. On to the music! From the my heart, by way of the Playa, ENJOY.

Welcome to Sophisticated Chill 9, the slower sibling to my Morning series. The music that I source and play for the Chill sets have very much the same feel as the Morning sets -- with the only difference being that they chug along at a slower pace. This Chill set clocks in between 105 & 110 bpm, whereas the Morning sets groove along at about 120 bpm. Otherwise you'd really not know the difference. Same artists, same feel, same love. I'm especially excited about this particular set, as I have remixes/remakes of notable artists such as Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Foreigner and Men At Work. These updated familiar hits are nestled amongst the most beautiful in tropical and deep house music being released today. As always I've poured every ounce of love I've got to give into this production...and I hope that you feel and hear it. PodOmatic and Soundcloud links in the comments. From my heart...to your ears. LOVE.

Welcome to Sophisticated Deep 12. The Deep series has fast become a favorite of mine to mix. It's what I call the deeper, sturdier and more worldly sibling to my Sophisticated Morning series. These songs have the same warmth and melody that the Morning series has but are largely missing the vocals. The music that I find for the Deep series is sometimes deep and meditative, sometimes sweeping and symphonic and sometimes exotic and worldly. The common denominator is always a sound and rhythm that is intoxicating and hypnotizing. I hope that you enjoy this set as much as I loved making it and I hope that you hear and FEEL the love that I put into it. My DJ sets are true labors of love and I hope that it comes across to you as you hear and experience them. I go through hundreds of records for every mix and spend countless hours perfecting every last detail so that the journey is unique and truly one-of-a-kind. I've included the track listing in the hopes that you will support the artists and remixers who made this brilliant music. And now...on to the music. From my heart....to your ears...ENJOY.

This is the continuation of the Flagging In The Desert Party that I spun in Palm Springs on February 29, 2020. It was a day full of sunshine, bliss, laughter and love. How lucky were all were to have squeaked this amazing day in right before everything came to a full stop. This segment of the day was full of feel-good vibes and uplifting anthems. Lots of energy. As always, I hope you enjoy what I did and where I went. From my heart...to your ears....!
The art of creating soundscapes is a really tricky thing. There are so many circumstances that go into magic happening and there is never any way to know that it's happened until it's already in process or it's played itself out. I just had one of those really rare experiences; I composed a set that fell together so seamlessly and with such little effort that as I was mixing I couldn't believe that it was happening. I usually put more emphasis on the technical components of a mixed set as much as the messaging itself. As far as I'm concerned the messaging comes from the Spirit, a higher power, and I believe that my intuition won't allow me to put mixed messages together. So typically my obsession during the creating process is on the technical side of it. With this set I completely flipped that script. Here -- I obsessed with the messaging. This mix set had been planned for weeks but yesterday I awoke to find out that a friend and mentor had suddenly passed away and it has rattled me deeply. The set of music that I was going to create had to go out the window and I had a day to completely reimagine what this set should sound like. Now that it is finished I really am astounded. Almost every song has hidden or not so hidden messages in it that are relevant to this very moment in my life and the lives of many that surround me. So I hope that you'll hear the peace and love and that the messages will speak to you clearly. As always this music came from the depths of my heart and it gives me life to share it with you. From my heart...to your ears.
Welcome to Sophisticated Deep 11. You know, my creation of podcasts is a long and winding process. The amount of music that I have to sift through to find enough to put on any one podcast is staggering. And the amount of time that I spend shopping for the music is equally staggering. And once I have the music gathered and sit to compose a mix...a whole new journey begins. When I'm piecing a set together I'm focused on the "feel" of the pieces of music more than actually listening to the songs specifically. The listening comes later. I'm also hyper-focused on making sure that the songs "belong" together. Sometimes before I mix a set I'm convinced that that particular one will be the best of the best...and then I come to feel later that it's just so-so. And then other times a set will sneak up on me and will blow me away once I've actually settled in and listened closely to the actual records. Well I think with this set I have found one that has surprised me and left me speechless. I hope that as you listen to this new set that you'll allow the chords, the sounds, the textures and the vibes to entrance you and let you dream and think. As always I've composed this set with every ounce of love that I have to give and I share it with you joyfully. From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY.
I like a lot of music but I reserve LOVE for very few pieces of music. I usually "frame" my mixes around the particular pieces of music that I love the most. Most of the time my sets are built around a few songs that are my favorites and sometimes it will be literally, one song, that the entire set is built for. So I'm really excited to present to you Sophisticated Morning 70. My favorites on this set are the first song by Harry Styles (formerly of One Direction fame) "Falling", the fifth song "Perfect Motion" by Rob Made which is a male vocal remake of the incredible song by Sunscreem, and lastly "Believe" by Zhiko, which is a remake of the massive Cher hit. The sound of this entire mix is built around those 3 songs. I hope that you love what you hear and that it all lifts you up during these hard and challenging times. As always I've mixed this set with an abundance of soul and love. And it's my gift to you. From my heart...to yours. ENJOY!
Hello again beautiful music-lover.
Welcome to Sophisticated Deep 10. This is a patient, slow burning, mature mix that really draws you in. There's really no words to be found on this mix, but that's very much by design. What you will hear though is music with stunning textures, brilliant sounds and exotic rhythms.
You'll hear hints of my Morning series all throughout this set. In fact, it was a toss-up as to what I was going to name this set. I did almost brand it Sophisticated Morning -- but decided against it because, although it's stunning in beauty, it's missing the vocals that most of my Morning sets have. So...Deep is what you get! I hope you "feel" me here. This is my raw soul up front on display for you. Music is my gift to the world. So if you love it...share it! From my heart...to your ears. LOVE.

Continuation of my live performance in Palm Springs, California. This part of the day was rising in energy and crescendos into a gospel-house throw down.
I'm still kind of glowing from Flagging In The Desert in Palm Springs on Saturday. Getting to do what I love so much while being surrounded by people that I love so incredibly gives me a feeling that's pretty much impossible to describe. Thank you to all of you that were there surrounding me giving me so much happiness. Your energy feeds my soul. Now...about this music: it's a sound that I've loved forever but don't push forward in my sets very often. For FITD I decided to play house music only; concentrating on a sound that was sometimes deep and funky, sometimes piano-laden, sometimes disco-centric and sometimes driving and uplifting. But the common theme was house music. I had the time of my life and I hope that you'll hear it in this live recording (#1 of 4). The rest of the set will be up shortly. In the meantime...enjoy the beginning of the day. From my heart...to yours.
We say this every year...but wow, what a day it was on the beach. Every year we don't think the joy and euphoria can be topped from the previous year and then, just like magic, the joy and the euphoria is totally off the charts. This year was epic in every way. Now...about the music: if you've been a follower of mine for years then you'll know I am insanely critical of myself when it comes to my DJ performances. I believe that the (beat) mixing component of the art is as important as the musical selections. Luckily I was "on" this day. I was having such a blast behind the decks and I hope that you'll hear it as much as I felt it. Full track listing is below for those of you that follow the music extremely closely (and I know there's a lot of you). From my heart...to yours...ENJOY THE MUSIC!
