One person's journal in attempting to answer the question - “What roads lead to lasting satisfaction?”
In an unequal world, where suffering can be dramatically reduced by coordinating / helping across boundaries, how can we enable sufficient empathy to spur action, at scale?
The problem at a societal level is that 'valuable skills' are fairly highly correlated with privilege.
The crisis we face now - persistent, omnipresent, and yet invisible - triggers not our “A-Game”, but anxiety. “Lowering the temperature” for ourselves and loved ones, and acting out of thought and not emotion, therefore becomes our responsibility, not an ‘automatic’ defense mechanism.
It’s better to start with a 2 minute version of something rather than not start at all.
Most situations in life don’t need us to be smart, they need us to be calm and aware. And taking 5 minutes off can be the fastest way to the right answer.
The limitations we acknowledge are more numerous and harmful than limitations that truly exist.
In a world which seems obsessed with moving quickly, there’s tremendous value in slowing down.
