Eventually, Lot, his wife and two daughters were virtually and hurriedly pushed out from Sodom. His wife, still with a yearning for Sodom, disobeyed God’s command, looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt; destroyed with the people of Sodom. The final event in this horrifying life story was Lot’s incest with his daughters, the result from which was the fact that Lot became the father of the Moabites and Ammonites. These nations proved to be constant enemies of Israel for many years.

What lessons could be learned from this wasted life?

I must hate what God hates;

I cannot compromise with known sin;

I need to have clear visible separation from the world and known error;

I must always act in faith and never by sight; Without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11.6. Whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14.23.

In Genesis chap.9 God made an everlasting covenant with Noah and all future generations. How exciting it still is to see a rainbow! As William Wordsworth said "My heart leaps up when I behold A rainbow in the sky: So was it when my life began; So is it now I am a man; So be it when I shall grow old, Or let me die!"

May all transitory thing, O Lord, be worthless in mine eyes, And dear to me everything that is Thine, and Thou, O Lord, above all things. Give me a watchful heart which no sinful curiosity may lead astray, Which no unworthy affection may debase. Give me, O Lord, a strong heart, which no temptation may overcome.

Christians should produce fruit in their lives. Jesus said "Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples". In the parable of the sower, some seed produced thirty, some sixty and some a hundred fold. On God's standard how do I score?

Noah had to learn patience to wait for the waters to subside. We too must learn, to “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” Psalm 37.7. Our Lord will come to the air and take His Church, true believers, to be with Himself as He promised, to our inheritance in heaven, prepared for us. May we like Noah wait in patient expectation.

The Word of God says "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement:" But man says "I really find that hard to believe". Remember Jesus said "As it was in the days of Noah so shall it be in the days of......." People just will not listen!

Some day the door of opportunity for those on earth to accept Christ as Saviour will close, not by you but by God. As in Noah's day God still says "My Spirit shall not always strive with man." Will you be on the inside when that door is closed or like those in Noah's day left to face judgement and eternal separation from God.

We live in an environment of constant noise, clamour and upheaval. Will the forewarning voices be heard above the alluring sirens of pleasure and commerce or ignored “as in the days of Noah”?.

We read that the earth was corrupt and filled with violence. Much like it is today? And Jesus said "As it was in the days of Noah so shall it be...."

However, we read "all that God commanded Noah, so did he." Sadly, such an epitaph could not be written of many of his fellow citizens nor of our world today.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55.7/8) Somehow man always assumes his thoughts are should be considered by God!
