Bridging The Gap Between Generations Who Assume Things About Each Other: Recent Episodes

Karen Johnson-Diamond and Stephanie Wolfe

Stephanie and Karen, both mid fifties, have assumptions. As do others. Let's talk about it.

Welcome to Bridging the Gap Between Generations who Assume Things About Each Other, the podcast where your hosts Stephanie Wolfe and Karen Johnson-Diamond speak to people of different generations and breakdown assumptions. (We, as women in our 50s do not actually sit in bed all day knitting, not all 13 year-olds play video games and 40 year-olds don't have to know what they are doing)

This week, Stephanie and Karen chat with (almost) 40 year-old Fawnda, The Alberta Podcast Network's own programmer!

This podcast, Bridging the Gap Between Generations Who Assume Things About Each Other is all about...well...you know. But this episode is special; we talk about some serious biz with our guest Tim who's been called a 'Lazy Millenial'. People have expectations of him and he has expectations of himself. He has self doubt and questions. Turns out Stephanie and Karen had all the same thoughts/feelings/woes as Gen X-ers, as did their boomer parents.
This is a conversation that reminds us that the gaps might not be as big as we all think.

A note from your hosts Stephanie Wolfe and Karen Johnson-Diamond;
This is a very special episode.
Thomas was our guest on the very first episode of this podcast and we checked in with him a year later on our one year anniversary episode. Last episode we met his sister Sadie - 10.

Now, with Stephanie opening a show at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton (The Garneau Block, running until Oct 10th, www.citadeltheatre.com) what was Karen to do without her co-host? Ask Thomas, that's what!

And to make things even better, Thomas interviews Karen's own son Griffin.

Stephanie and Karen are trying to bridge the gap between generations who assume things about each other. Hence the title.  They've learned there are not as many gaps as everyone thinks, and the bridges kind of build themselves.

Take Lexine for example.  All she had to say was 'mango flavored cotton candy' and Karen and Steph could see that glorious bridge right there. Hear all about roll-y-poll-y bugs, and how she's learned to hack into her dad's tablet. Chinchillas! Subway! And a day out in a boat.

You are a bus driver at a station. 10 get on the bus and no one gets off. You drive 10 miles to another station where 3 people get on and 1 gets off. You drive another 10 miles only to get 25 people on and 5 people go off. Next you drive 3 miles while 12 people exit the bus. You drive back to the place knowing that a couple more stops along the way untill the ride is done. At the 2nd to last station 5 people get on and 2 get off. And at the last station (5.5 miles) 25 people get on for no reason and 1 gets off. What is the bus drivers eye color?

Stand back.
Greysen. Know. Everything. There. Is. To. Know. About. Thomas.

Karen and Stephanie barely got a word in edgewise, and wouldn't have had it any other way :)

It's episode #12!!

In this week's episode, Karen and Stephanie continue their "quit blaming all of the things on the 20 year olds" series.
Seriously. We're serious.
All those 20 - 30 year olds that are being blamed for spreading ..."IT"?? -They are the ones who are pouring you coffee while you sit at Denny's and opine. So. knock it off.

Get a load of Bri 'four jobs' Zubik and Quinn 'consent matters' Lazenby.
Karen thinks there is NO WAY on earth she could have been this aware ('woke') in her 20s.
Karen doesn't know what the Mandela effect is.
Stephanie has become one with Salmon
Quinn and Bri are introduced to who and what Fraggle Rock and Christopher Reeve are

The Mandela Effect - read all about it

The Center for Sexuality - Quinn is an amazing spokesperson!

Meet Emily (or Bob or bug). She's 21, she's responsible, and she's freaking hilarious.

I hope you all pull a hip flexor and need HER as a personal trainer!

In this episode, Karen did a terrible job of introducing our guest to the listeners because ....well....Neil Diamond.
Zoe is 10. Zoe now lives in Calgary. Zoe is a dancer. Zoe is adorable.

Sure, that's how old she SAYS she is......
Stephanie will post a photo on our 'Insta'. Go judge for yourself. Actualy don't. There is no gap at all between generations when it comes to what we think about judging. You all do you and we'll all do...we.

She's Generation B
She loves Micheal B
And she looks 23

Join Karen, Stephanie and Bev as they discuss swiping right, dying plants and spa bathrooms.

Stephanie's husband says that Stephanie and Karen give long answers.

He is right.

We do.

We really do. We aim to keep them short, but we can't. It's nigh on impossible. Try as we might, there are many many words that follow the words that provide our answers. We commit to trying to change our ways regarding this manner. We require your patience. It could take a while. Like a month and a half. Give or take a day. Or two.

Meet Stephie's next door neighbor Lauren. What do you assume about the typical 18 year old? That they are thinking of University? You'd be right. That grad is all about drinking? Hmmmm... This gal will surprise you with a lot of things you wouldn't assume, like cookie tins, rabbit humping and THE BLOCK

Here is the charity Lauren mentions in the episode
Why not make  a small donation here on behalf of the Strathcona High 2020 Grad class?
