Javie is an British-Chilean illustrator that centres black and
brown people in her work. Her illustrations have appeared in
Gal-dem Magazine and Shado Magazine. Javie is also a
trustee and campaigner for the Save Latin Village Campaign.
We find out what it was like growing up in Felixstowe, her
move to London to study illustration, and how she found her
community far away from home.
In the first episode of SOMOS we hear from Juanita Euka. Juanita is a LUKAS award-winning singer-songwriter who grew up in Buenos Aires before coming to the UK. Known for her work with Wara, London Afrobeat collective, and Animanz. We find out what she has been up to during lockdown, how she is related to a Congolese Rumba legend, and what sounds we can expect on her debut album releasing in 2021.
