All Around Music
A podcast hosted by Matt and Grant discussing all things music. They talk about everything from their favorite music and concerts to the technical side of music making and production. Also they interview local musicians and feature music from the local music scene.
This week Averielynn, who is a local artist based out of Kokomo, Indiana, joins us in the studio to talk about her background in music and along with her debut EP “Different, but Okay.” Averielynn is a part of the Rhum Academy of Music and also serves on the Worship team at Bridgeway Church in Kokomo. Averielynn also does a special acoustic performance live in the studio of her songs "Different, but Okay" and "Here."
This week we speak with Hollywood, California based rock band, Disciples of Babylon. In 2016, the band was selected as one of the acts to compete for the Vans "Road to Vans Warped Tour" kickoff with Sleeping With Sirens, Crown the Empire, Sum 41 and more. In 2017, the band performed at the extreme sports themed "Dew Tour" sponsored by Mountain Dew as well as kicking off the "Gladiator MMA Championship Series" with a performance at the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. We speak with band about how the band met, their influences and more. We also feature their single "Liberty"
This week we speak with Pop/R&B singer-songwriter, Adam Emil. Adam is also the recipient of the Apollo Legend title along with BET’s Ya Heard new artist award. Adam has spent the last five years touring with the platinum group Color Me Badd. They’ve also been a part of the I Love The 90's Tour that includes Salt N Peppa, Vanilla Ice and more. Throughout Adam’s career and his career with Color Me Badd, they’ve opened up for Common Jerimih, Mickey Howard, Ginuwine, Fat Joe and more. We feature his singles "Prolly Why" and "The Fire"
This week we speak with Matt and Sean of American heavy rock band Fear Culture. The band pushed metal core boundaries with the debut EP in 2018, “Room to Breathe.” After the band spent the next year opening for bands such as: Palisades, Salves, blessthefall, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Fear Culture further carved their own unique path ending the year with the release of their single, “Supernova” in 2019. The newest chapter for the band’s career, further paving their own lane in the heavy rock industry consists of their 2020 singles, “Old Habits” and “Medicate Me” feat Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. This week we speak with EJ Olson of Portland, Oregon based rocked band 09 (OH-NINE). 09 has two main members of the band that put together all of the music, but also put an interesting and fresh spin on their music by collaborating with singers across the scene. We talk about their influences, their writing and recording processes and more. We feature their singles "Masquerade" (feat. Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire) and "Impermanence" (feat. Malia Endres of Glacier Veins)
This week we speak with Chicago based house/electric music DJ and drummer duo, Dance Loud. DJ KRISTIN is a vinyl house/electronic DJ, with a penchant for adrenaline building blends with heavy equalization and hip-hop style scratching on strong percussive high tempo EDM tracks. Desereé Fawn is a classically trained rock/jazz drummer, that is noted for her syncopated off beats often using polyrhythms and polymeters to create a energetically diverse sound and performance. The combination of these two musically diverse artists, introduce a seductive and energetic fusion of syncopated rock/jazzy drums beats, hip-hop scratching with high tempo dance music We feature their song "Hollow" from their album "The Moment."
This week we speak with the members of Pink Laces, Elijah Wahlberg and Ian Bradford. Pink Laces was formed during the COVID-19 quarantine and they are fresh off their debut EP release "Shelf Life." We speak with Elijah and Ian about how they met, how the band formed and we feature their singles "LOVE:MAYHEM" and "Mr. Zero Gravity" (feat. Spencer Sotelo) of Periphery and King Mothership.
This week we speak with Roger Ortega. Roger is a charting R&B singer/songwriter and a voting member of the National Recording Academy meaning that he can also vote in the GRAMMYs. We speak with Roger about his background in music and we feature his singles "Spread Love" and "Goodbye To Summer."
Cardigan Records is an independent record label based in Durham, NC. Cardigan was founded by Shane Kelly in July of 2013. They are passionate about loud guitars and honest lyrics. Their diverse roster is currently home to An Author A Poet, Jordyn Zaino, Paperback, Reveries, So Soon The Truth and Time Spent Driving.
This week local hip-hop/rap artist Mike Brad Lee returns to the podcast. We speak with Mike about his plan to release a new single every week for a year straight. We also talk about the techniques and styles of rapping. We dive into the his background with music and we also featured his singles "Bruiserweight" and "Read Em and Weep."
One of Salt Lake City's newest and most exciting acts, Spirit Machines is the brainchild of an MIT chemist, a radio host and entrepreneurs. The band in a short time has been able to release their full length record, "Feel Again" and then gain the attention from the 90's alternative band, Tool with their release of a "Zober" mashup of "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin and "Sober" by Tool.
This week we speak with Kristin Juel of Juel Concepts. Juel Concepts is a boutique music management, marketing and PR agency, that provides artists creative label services and brands comprehensive, effective and integrated campaign strategies. With over two decades of building brands like Blue Cross, Nissan Automotive, Kahlua, KFC, Church’s Chicken, Hotwire.com, Herbalife, TiVo and Kaiser Permanente, Kristin has a keen sense of what it takes to create a meaningful experience for all audiences.
Based out of Texas, As the City Sleeps is a 5-piece progressive pop punk band. We speak with the them about how the band formed, their main influences, how the frontman Jarred almost broke his back and more. We also feature their songs "Where You Belong" and "Constant Source of Disappointment" from their EP "Not Bad for Being Under the Weather."
This week we speak with Victor and Jesse of Arrows In Action. Based out of Gainesville, Florida, Arrows In Action is a pop-punk power pop band that delivers a sound that everyone can get behind. We learn the history of the band, talk about some performances, their writing process and more. As the son of Pat Vegas - legendary founder of Native American, Billboard Top 100-charting band REDBONE - music has always been at the forefront of PJ’s life. With so much promise and potential, Nicole’s now signed to a new deal with Kay-Gee & Vin-Rock’s (Naughty by Nature) New Label, Slugga Ventures. Nicole has a jewelry line launching in Spring 2020, with Dune Jewelry Company as well.

Years Later, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a 5 piece modern alternative rock band creating music with nostalgic elements they love from the late 90s and 2000s. The group set out to hit the ground running by recording their first two singles in early 2020 with producer Seth Henderson (Knuckle Puck, Real Friends, Sleep On It), and will be returning to record an EP in the Fall. We talk with the band about their recent single releases, "Therapy" and "Complacency." We also talk about the impact COVID-19 is still having on the music industry from music venues to bands compiling music and waiting to release.

August 19th, 1967: The Beatles scored their 14th US No.1 single with 'All You Need Is Love'. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Keith Moon, Graham Nash, Marianne Faithfull and Walker Brother Gary Leeds all sang backing vocals on the track.
August 19th, 1971: Led Zeppelin kicked off a North American tour at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, Canada. The band played to a sold out crowd of over 17,000 fans, another 3,000 fans outside the venue who didn't have tickets started a battle with local police.
August 19th, 1972: David Bowie played the first of two nights at the Rainbow Theatre in England on his current 182-date Ziggy Stardust world tour.
August 19th, 1977: The Sex Pistols started an undercover UK tour as The Spots, (an acronym for Sex Pistols on tour secretly).
August 19th, 1978: The Commodores started a five-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Three Times A Lady'. Lionel Richie wrote the song about his love for his wife, mother and grandmother hence 'Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady.'
August 19th, 1988: 'Crazy' by Patsy Cline and Elvis Presley's 'Hound Dog' were announced as the most played jukebox songs of the first hundred years. The jukebox had been around since 1906, but earlier models had been first seen in 1889.
August 19th, 1999: Lauryn Hill won New Artist Of The Year and Album Of The Year at the US 'Source Hip Hop Music Awards' in Los Angeles. R. Kelly won R&B Artist of The Year; DMX won Artist Of The Year and solo and live performer Of The Year.
August 19th, 2016: American record producer and fraudster Lou Pearlman died aged 62 from cardiac arrest. He was the manager of successful 1990s boy bands such as Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. In 2006, he was accused of running one of the largest and longest-running Ponzi schemes in history, leaving more than $300 million in debts. After being apprehended, he pled guilty to conspiracy, money laundering, and making false statements during a bankruptcy proceeding. In 2008, Pearlman was convicted and sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.

August 4th, 1958: Billboard introduced 'The Hot 100 Singles Chart', Ricky Nelson was at No.1 with 'Poor Little Fool’.
August 4th, 1963: The Beatles appeared at the Queen's Theatre in Blackpool. So many fans crowded around the theatre, blocking every entrance, that The Beatles had to go through a construction area, up and across some scaffolding to the roof of the theatre, from where they were lowered through a trap door.
August 4th, 1984: Prince started a 24 week run at the top of the US album charts with 'Purple Rain'. His sixth studio album which features the hits 'When Doves Cry' and 'Let's Go Crazy', as well as the title track has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, becoming the seventh best-selling soundtrack album of all time.
August 4th, 1996: Oasis played two sold out nights at Balloch Castle Country Park, Loch Lomand, Scotland to over 80,000 fans. Oasis roadie James Hunter was crushed to death between a fork-lift truck and a large vehicle during the bands two days shows.
August 4th, 2000: Craig David scored his second UK No.1 single with '7 Days'. At the age of 19, he became the youngest male artist to score two No.1's since Donny Osmond in 1973.

Featured Artist: TJ Rosa
Tj Rosa grew up in the tiny town of Dayton, Indiana, but currently resides in West Lafayette, where she attends Purdue University studying Elementary Education with minors in Women's Studies and Theatre. She is 19 years old and her instrumental skills include guitar, piano, and ukulele. Tj develops her sound by combining her wide range of influences, including indie, acoustic pop, rock, show tunes, and pop punk. She studies guitar with Jeff Anderson and piano and songwriting with Nicky Kerr. The subject matter of Tj’s tunes ranges from love songs to lullabies, and most things in between, and she’s performed locally at farmers markets, festivals, gallery walks, and concerts.
Tj recently released her first EP entitled “Yellow,” which features five of her original songs.
You can see Tj perform live at this years Taste of Tippecanoe on Saturday, June 17th. She will be playing at 4pm on the Digby’s Songwriters Stage.
