Jeri Dye Lynch, president and founder of the Conor Lynch Foundation, became a pedestrian and driver safety advocate in 2010 after her 16-year-old son, Conor, was killed by a distracted 18-year-old, non-licensed, hit-and-run driver that same year, while he was crossing the street in front of Notre Dame High School, his high school, in Sherman Oaks. Ironically, this happened during National Teen Driver Safety Week - something that Jeri had never heard of until then. Since Conor’s untimely death, Jeri has advocated locally, as well as nationally to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of pedestrian safety and safe streets in general. Jeri continues to do a massive amount of work with so many organizations on a national level including Inclusion Matters, Drive 25 and Keep Kids Alive and has been awarded the CSW Pioneer Woman of the Year.

Kalina & Kiana is a California-based pop duo with fresh ideas, relatable lyrics, nostalgic sibling harmonies, and a crazy story that got them here… At ages 11 & 13, they formed an all-girl band, for which John Stamos produced a pilot that Disney held to replace "Hannah Montana.” Flashforward, this led to another musical TV series in Europe, which took the sisters off the market for nearly 5 years. During this time, Kalina & Kiana were contractually kept from using their own names, so they wrote and played under a pseudonym. AND Kalina went through cancer and chemotherapy but, they kept playing gigs.

While under contract, they still played 100s of live gigs and wrote songs for shows on Netflix and Disney. Since then, there have been many other career highs and lows, Today, the sisters are no longer contractually bound and making the best music of their lives as they try to navigate through a broken music industry.

Alison is a resident of Denver, Colorado and mother to two young adult cancer survivors.  It is her hope that by sharing their unique story, she can help others be diagnosed earlier and have less damaging treatments. Only 4% of federal funding goes to researching childhood cancers, thus many children and young adults are left without hope.  If they survive, they are often left with lifelong damage done by brutal treatments meant for adults.  It is her hope that they can save each child’s life while also giving them a future.

Dr. Shirley Madhère is a plastic surgeon who practices using a holistic approach. She is the Founder of Holistic Plastic Surgery in New York as well as the elevated aesthetic medical mobile service, Jet Set Beauty RX, where she offers procedures such as injectables, Vitaglow facial vitamin infusions, PRP, chemical peels, and more.. As with her multi-cultural background, her interests are diverse and contribute to her perspective that beauty and healing emanate from within, and that external appearance is a reflection of inner health of the mind, body, and spirit. She believes that appearance is an expression of beauty and of our overall sense of wellness. Moreover, she understands that looking well is an important aspect of leadership and achieving professional and personal success. According to Dr. Madhère, “Personal style, manifested by what we wear and how we look, mirrors our complexity as human beings. Thus, beauty is a visual marker of whom we are and how we communicate that to others. This non-verbal method of communication not only speaks volumes about ourselves, but also bolsters our sense of self and helps us to relate to the world.”

She offers a combination of wellness and cosmetic counseling before recommending any surgical procedures and empowers her patients to seek life-affirming cosmetic treatments that are guided by a personal definition of beauty and self. In pursuit of a robust education, Dr. Madhère is a graduate of the Dartmouth Medical School and Brown University School of Medicine combined program and she has a Master’s Degree from the Brown University Graduate School. She completed both a full residency in general surgery and a second subsequent residency in plastic surgery at the Montefiore Medical Center as well as a one-year educational program on holistic nutrition at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Eden Dranger is a Los Angeles based comedian and writer. She wrote this bio and thinks its a bit weird that she’s referring to herself in third person, but she figures she can say flattering things about herself this way without sounding pretentious. She started her career acting when she was 13 and ended up in culinary school after college. She decided she liked eating food more than preparing it for people so she’s shared her creative recipes and tales of the kitchen in her popular humor and food blog, Eden Eats Everything.

Travis was raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Kelly was raised in Fairfax, Virginia, and our family currently resides in Kensington, Maryland. College sweethearts who met in Abilene, Texas, our life together has taken us to Dallas, Raleigh, Fairfax, D.C., Nashville, and the Maryland suburbs of D.C.

We have been married over twenty years and have three children – Bennett (age 14), Jackson (age 11), and Reagan (age 9). Bennett has quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and is obsessed with “The Wiggles.” Jackson enjoys legos, aviation, and nearly all sports. Reagan is our family artist who loves soccer and basketball. Most importantly, the Christian faith was the foundation of each of our upbringings – and is the cornerstone of our family life.

Cheering for our kids while savoring the big and little moments of life – along with chips and queso – are a few simple pleasures that we enjoy.

It was in 1996 that the police burst into Bruce's home while he was sleeping and arrested and handcuffed him—all while his 10-year-old son was watching wide-eyed in terror.

Now, 25 years later, there are so many emotions tied to this fateful day. He still remembers the surprise, the fear, the anxiety, and the rage at being hauled off to jail for a crime he did not commit. He's thankfully now at peace with the tragedy of being falsely accused, arrested, and incarcerated. He is  saddened by the lasting impact this turn of events has had on his four children. And he is still amazed that he was able to exonerate himself—after 4 long years. But, mostly, he is grateful for the opportunity now as a man, as a father, and as an attorney to help others understand the peril and to avoid the trap of false accusations made during divorce proceedings. That is the reason he chose to share my story. Hope for a better future for parents and their children.

Patrick Samy was building consumer products for Microsoft when he noticed that his 10-hours-a-day desk job was taking a toll. Paul Cardall: Living With A Stranger’s Heart It’s a miracle the GMA Dove Award winning artist Paul Cardall is alive. His story is a testament to the human spirit, one full of determination and humility. After being born with a profound disability, Paul underwent critical surgeries, just hours after his birth. Throughout childhood and early adulthood, he lived with just ONE WORKING VENTRICAL, so basically half of his heart. This made him acutely aware of his own mortality. Following the tragic loss of one of his closest friends when he was a teenager, Paul spun into a dark place filled with existential questions and haunting grief.

Fighting the heartache, Paul made the choice to grow. With the piano as his foundation, success found its way to him when, in 1994, author Richard Paul Evans invited him to compose a musical adaption of his No. 1 New York Times best-selling novel "The Christmas Box". The resulting album and Evans’ mentorship launched his professional recording career. 5 years later he founded Stone Angel Music which was a springboard for the release of his own albums. They debuted at Number 1 on 8 Billboard charts and solidified a worldwide committed following, earning him over 2 billion streams on Pandora alone.

In 2009, another miracle happened while sharing his own experiences with parents of children suffering from congenital heart disease at Children's Hospital, Paul was notified that a heart had become available for him. It belonged to a young man who had taken his own life after his family left the States and returned to live in Mexico.

As a recipient of a normal functioning heart, Paul says he felt like he had been driving an old truck all his life and that was all he knew. Then the doctors gave him the keys to a Porsche. His story is nothing short of miraculous.

He has performed to sold out audiences in Slovenia, Croatia, England, France and various venues within the United States. Some of these include national TV performances at the White House, Lifestyle Magazine, and music featured on CNN. In 2018, Paul’s holiday album, “Christmas” won the Gospel Music Association’s prestigious Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year.

He has collaborated with countless musical greats and lives in music city - Nashville, TN with his wife Tina. His latest album “December” takes listeners on a journey from the rise of a new moon in September through the start of the New Year. Paul strives to capture as many emotions as possible in his music in the hopes of comforting and giving hope to all his listeners.

Dr. Jacob has been on the path to being a chiropractor since he was 11 years old. After graduating from high school as the valedictorian of his class, he went on to study at Duke University, and then Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, California. There, he elected to learn nine specialized adjusting techniques and advanced clinical nutritional knowledge to better serve his patients. At his graduation in 2010, Dr. Jacob was the recipient of the highest award given at graduation at Palmer College, awarded to one student per class. From 2011 to 2013 he served as the primary clinician in the highest volume chiropractic practice in Ventura County, California, and to date has delivered nearly 75,000 chiropractic adjustments. He is certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association in the Webster Technique for pregnant women, and he is the founder and lead clinician of IS Chiropractic, a successful vitalistic chiropractic office in Santa Barbara specializing in prenatal, family, and lifestyle care.

As a chiropractor, Dr. Jacob teaches that the nervous system is the body’s connection to the soul and the mind’s connection to the world. When there is interference in the nervous system due to a spinal subluxation, integration within the body is decreased. Specific chiropractic adjustments remove nervous system interference and allow for optimal communication between the brain, body, and the innate strength present in both. This allows for the highest life expression and health for the body, mind, and spirit.

Welcome to Health Interrupted hosted by Celebrity Personal Trainer, Gina Lombardi, and Former Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler.

Today we have the pleasure of talking to country music star T. Graham Brown. It was one of the most vibrant and exciting time periods in Country Music history – the mid-1980s. A new and exciting crop of talents were springing up all over the place – and T. Graham Brown remembers it like it was yesterday. Brown’s initial entry to Country Radio was the sad and soulful “Drowning In Memories.” That Top-40 single helped him to establish himself, and by the winter of 1986, he had warmed up to audiences with the bluesy hit “I Tell It Like It Used To Be.” Other hits quickly followed, with his first self-penned release “Hell And High Water,” which became his first number-one song. “I Wish That I Could Hurt That Way Again” and “Don’t Go To Strangers” were the next releases, which all became chart-toppers. It was a gripping 1998 release about his battles with alcohol – “Wine Into Water”- which helped him introduce his music to the Christian audiences. This iconic song has been recorded by over a hundred artists, most recently by Loretta Lynn, on her critically acclaimed project, Full Circle. T. Graham Brown’s life came full circle as he now celebrates sobriety and believes his life’s mission is to help others become sober. The powerful lyrics to his song, “Wine Into Water” have impacted so many people on their journey to sobriety and creating a better life for themselves. He says he’ll continue playing music as long as he’s got a band and a bus and he’ll keep taking the music to the people as long as God lets him.

At age 77, Gordon was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on March 17th, 2020 after apparently contracting the virus at the March 1-4 Australian International Documentary Conference in Melbourne. Having been intubated twice and near death, he decided he wanted to make a film about the fundamental issues about communication across the intubation barrier. Gordon states that he has had several health interruptions including cancer and ruptured discs but NOTHING has compared to the level of illness he endured with Covid 19.

Our guest today is Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Having been dubbed ‘The Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century’ by Sports Illustrated, Jackie Joyner Kersee’s athletic accomplishments are literally second to none. By the conclusion of her career in the heptathlon and long jump events, she had amassed six Olympic medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) and four World Champion titles over four consecutive Olympic Games. Jackie was the first woman in history to earn more than 7,000 points in the heptathlon and today, over 20 years later, she still holds the world heptathlon record of 7,291 points. She continues to hold the Olympic and national records in the long jump and her 1994 performance in the long jump remains the second-longest in history. In addition to heptathlon and long jump, Jackie was a world-class 100m and 200m runner and, after a decorated All-American career in basketball at UCLA, she eventually played professional basketball for a short time.

Jackie’s athletic accomplishments have been well documented and remain some of the best ever across all of sports. Less well known are her tireless efforts and remarkable accomplishments off the field as a philanthropist and an advocate for children’s education, health issues (in particular asthma from which she has suffered throughout her life), racial equality, social reform and women’s rights. Born in 1962, in East St. Louis, IL, Jackie came from very humble beginnings but despite the at times, very strained conditions she describes her early home life as being full of love, principle, and discipline. These ingrained values have served Jackie well both on and off the field throughout her life. She has been described by the sports media as one of the warmest, most even-tempered, grace-filled persons in all of athletics.

Jackie is the author of both A Kind of Grace (1997), her autobiography, and A Woman’s Place is Everywhere. She is an active professional speaker and is widely considered one of the most inspiring motivational speakers in all of sports. Jackie speaks on topics of athletics, business success, living with the limitations of medical issues, nutrition, women’s issues, and youth advocacy.

Evan began dancing at the age of five in his hometown studio and by age ten, he was accepted into the famed New Jersey Tap Ensemble. Upon entering his sophomore year at Montclair State University while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, Evan was suddenly diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer of the right leg. Enduring nine surgeries in a six-month period in an effort to save the leg, the cancer returned more aggressively than the original diagnosis. He was faced with the ultimate decision of amputation in order to stop the cancer and save his life, as well as undergoing chemotherapy for sixteen months.

Eighteen months after the amputation, and only two days after receiving his “peg-leg”, Evan was tap dancing again. In 2018 he received a Drama Desk Nomination for Best Actor in a Musical, a Chita Rivera Award Nomination for Best Dancer in a Musical, and was awarded a Clive Barnes Award in Theatre for his portrayal of Tom Jones in NYC’s off-Broadway hit “Bastard Jones.” In 2019, he won the Courageous Spirit Award at the Shane’s Inspiration/Inclusion Matters Gala. Originally from League City, Texas, near Houston, Texas, Cory grew up playing football, basketball, and track as a child. Once he entered his freshman year of high school, Cory focused on his growing love for basketball. Cory caught many college recruiters, including Detroit Mercer, Norte Dame, Texas A&M, and Concordia University. During his high school career, Cory faced many adversities, specifically in his junior year, where he suffered from a rare sinus infection that caused him to undergo four brain surgeries in a matter of months. Through it all, his love for basketball pushed him to recover and come back stronger than ever. Following that year, Cory received numerous accolades like the Come-Back kid of the year for the school district, All-Academic District Team, and 1st Team Defensive Player of the Year. Following his high school years, Cory went on to play for Concordia University in Austin, Texas, where he was a valued star in the community. Following college and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Science, Cory was allowed to work with his former high school basketball coach Chris Johnson and continue to work with his love of basketball. Here, for less than a year, Cory has developed a name for himself by working with professional athletes like Elizabeth (Liz) Cambage, Andrew Wiggins, and Tyrese Maxey. In the future, Cory plans on continuing his practice in developing players in basketball, hoping to share his love for the game with as many individuals as possible.

Welcome to Health Interrupted hosted by Celebrity Personal Trainer, Gina Lombardi and Former Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler.

Our guest today is Bryan Anderson. Bryan enlisted in the United States Army in April 2001. His deployment date was on September 11, 2001. He served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Sergeant in the Military Police. On October 23, 2005 while stationed in Baghdad, he was taking his unit commander on a routine mission to visit Iraqi police stations, Bryan’s Humvee drove past an improvised explosive device (IED). His was the last Humvee in the convoy when the bond exploded. The IED would have caused fatal damage if they had been traveling at 30 miles per hour, but they were traveling at only 5 miles per hour. After being transported by helicopter, he lost consciousness and awoke one week later at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and was confused to wake up seeing his mother staring back at him. He endured 13 months of rehab at Walter Reed Army Hospital. At the time of the incident, Anderson had two months left in Iraq before he was to return to Fort Hood, Texas. He is the Iraq War's fourth triple amputee. He was 9 months into his second tour in Iraq, where he served as a specialist in the 411th Military Police Company.Bryan was awarded the Purple Heart shortly after his tour.

While in recovery and learning how to walk in his prosthetic legs, he literally tripped into Gary Sinise at the Army Hospital. Upon meeting, Sinise called Anderson, "The REAL Lt. Dan!" referring to the character Sinise played in the film Forrest Gump. Since then, Sinise wrote the foreword to Bryans memoir, titled No Turning Back: One Man's Inspiring True Story of Courage, Determination, and Hope. The two worked together to get a bill passed in the United States Congress for a disabled veterans memorial in Washington, D.C.

He’s been on the cover of Esquire, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. He has won gold medals at the National Wheelchair Games for table tennis and archery… AND was actually made into a character for the Marvel Comics Captain America series! Anderson is the spokesperson for USA Cares, a nonprofit organization that helps post-September 11 veterans.

Welcome to Health Interrupted hosted by Celebrity Personal Trainer, Gina Lombardi and Former Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler.

Today’s guest is Nick Hardwick. Nick is a former NFL Pro Bowl Center for the San Diego Chargers. He started in 146 games, earned distinction as one of the 50 Greatest Chargers of All-Time as a member of the 50th Anniversary team, won the Ed Block Courage award, and earned Pro Bowl honors for his play on the field. Nick’s proudest accomplishment during his career was earning the title of Team Captain for his last 5 seasons in the league. Nick was drafted to the Chargers with the 3rd pick of the 3rd round of the 2004 draft, 3 years after walking on to the Purdue University football team, inspired by Drew Brees and the success of the Boilermakers at the time. All of this, and Nick didn’t play high school football! He was a high school wrestler who hit puberty late! Go figure! At Purdue, during Nick’s second year, a friend in the ROTC program, where Nick was on scholarship to become a Marine Corps officer, showed him an ad in the classified section of the Purdue student newspaper for walk-on tryouts. The rest, as they say, is history.

Following Nick’s illustrious career in football, he immediately lost 85lbs in under 5 months, showing up at his retirement press conference weighing 208lbs. This grabbed a lot of national media attention, where Nick was falsely accused of being on performance enhancing drugs during his playing career, because, “How else could the rapid weight loss be explained?” Nick decided to use that as motivation to show others how to lose weight fast, reclaim their health and ultimately their life. The program he designed for himself to lose weight has become the Lose Like a Lineman Program and most recently Lose Like a Lady designed with his health conscious wife, Jayme’s guidance. Together they are helping hundreds of people lose weight and stay active every day. They also host a health and wellness focused podcast, called The HardwickLIFE.

Today’s guest is Eric Tozer. Eric Tozer is a TYPE 1 diabetes ambassador who inspires the community through sports and utilizes his athletic accomplishments as a platform to be a role model in the diabetes community. Eric was diagnosed with T1D in 2006, while traveling in Europe. He had the classic symptoms of diabetes including constant thirst, increased appetite, frequent urination, blurred vision, lethargy, and weight loss. Eric had always lived a very active and healthy lifestyle, so the sudden 20-pound weight loss made him aware that something was seriously wrong. Upon returning home, a visit to his doctor revealed the devastating and life changing news of his diagnosis. We are excited to bring you today’s episode with Dave Lopez. For fifty years if there was a story in Los Angeles, reporter Dave Lopez covered it. Fires, floods, serial killers, OJ, crooked politicians…Dave brought the stories that mattered into LA living rooms. He retired in 2020 after an unprecedented 43 years on the air as a reporter at KCBS Channel 2, Los Angeles. A talented journalist and diehard sports reporter, Dave broke barriers at a time when there were not even Spanish-speaking first responder firefighters or cops in the city, much less appearing on a major newscast. He credits his success to his upbringing in South Park, where he was raised by his parents, Tilly and Al, both of whom came to the US as children from Mexico. Dave’s father Al, a fixture in the neighborhood for fifty years, was the rock of his family. Sadly, Al fell apart when his wife of five decades was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Today, Dave will discuss his own diagnosis with prostate cancer, skin cancer, losing his wife to cancer and also how caring for elderly parents, particularly those with dementia or Alzheimer’s destroys not only the patient, but the family as well. 00:02:17 Our Sponsor for today’s episode is The Zen Roller!
