Episode 107

It's common for Christians to doubt their salvation and to doubt their faith. But through prayer and proper due diligence, you should come back to 100% confidence in your faith and your salvation.

Romans 10:9 says:"if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in yourheart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved,"

No more than that is needed. It's between you and God! If you believe in your heart/spirit/mind that Jesus is Lord and confess it with your mouth, you will be saved!

Episode 106

Immediate Gratification is a killer in our society. It kills our dreams, it kills our patience, it kills our peace, it kills our perseverance, and it can kill your future - you being the person God wants and created you to be.

Some things in life takes lots of patience and when we show impatience and give in to the quick gratification answers/choices, that shows that we lack Trust in God!

If what we are desiring and praying for are from God, then Trust He will accomplish them.

"But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow,[a] do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! ..." (Habakkuk 2:3)

Episode 105

Today we are going to talk about a quality that if you can master it, you will be so much more successful in all areas of your life. It’s opposite of what our culture teaches you – no surprise – it seems like everything that culture tells you is complete opposite of what you should do! Seriously!!!

God wants us to have patience. And when we have patience we can play the long game which is always better than playing for the short term!

“Patience leads to abundant understanding,
but impatience leads to stupid mistakes.” Prov 14:29 (CEB – Common English Bible)

Episode 103

I’ve heard really successful entrepreneurs that are also social media celebrities if you will say that the NUMBER ONE question they get asked is – How do you deal with the haters?

And these questions are coming from people who are trying to do greater things in life, achieve more, take more risks, expose themselves to more “haters” by trying new things or by setting big goals.

And as Christians, we know we will face Haters but Jesus did and he was PERFECT!

Ecc 7:21

Don't pay attention to everything people say—you may hear your servant insulting you, (GNT)

Episode 102

Recently I watched the documentary : Agenda: Grinding America Down. A man named Curtis Bowers directed it in 2010 and it will blow you away when you watch It current day 2022. I mean it’s like back to the future where Curtis has been in present time and went back to 2010 to write and tell about it.

Then there is an Agenda 2: Masters of Deceit that was a follow up done in 2016. And again its crazy to see how much has happened that is spot on in this documentary! It’s scary! And it’s way to much to be just “coincidence”

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NLT)

Episode 101

Luke 16:10

10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. (NLT)

The older I get and the more life experiences I obtain, the more this passage hits me! We all love the easy route and would love for the end result to be just a snap away but the truth is that's not how life works and that's not how God works! We must be faithful in the little things to be entrusted with more!

Episode 100

Wow...100 Episodes!!!

Phil 4:8

And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. Phil 4:8 (TLB)

I know how hard it is for me to stay focused on Jesus and His truth – I’m an adult Christian and former Youth Pastor – So I know it’s that much harder for you young people out there! It’s not easy and it will be hard and it will be a daily decision you must make to stay focused!

For me personally...the times I've messed up the most in life were the times when I lost focus on Jesus and His Truths!  We need to fight daily to stay focused on Him!

Episode #99

“Boo’s Don’t Block Dunks” – Kobe Bryant

Kobe was more focused on being a great basketball player than he was listening to all the hate and all the noise and all the distractions around him! He was a very gifted athlete but he was an extremely hard worker! He was relentless! He wanted to be so good that nobody could stop him.

Right now in our world, there is soo much noise for Christians and for people trying to do morally good things! And by noise, I mean distractions, false information, lies, distorted truths, haters, evil, etc. We are living in a very corrupt time and now is so important for you young Christians especially to be so focused and dialed in that you don’t get distracted! Don’t listen to the noise! Don’t get distracted! Don’t give any weight to others being negative towards you!

Matt 27:27-31

27 Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters[a] and called out the entire regiment. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it. 31 When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified. (NLT)

Matt 27:35-44

35-40 After they had finished nailing him to the cross and were waiting for him to die, they killed time by throwing dice for his clothes. Above his head they had posted the criminal charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews. Along with him, they also crucified two criminals, one to his right, the other to his left. People passing along the road jeered, shaking their heads in mock lament: “You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you’re really God’s Son, come down from that cross!”

41-44 The high priests, along with the religion scholars and leaders, were right there mixing it up with the rest of them, having a great time poking fun at him: “He saved others—he can’t save himself! King of Israel, is he? Then let him get down from that cross. We’ll all become believers then! He was so sure of God—well, let him rescue his ‘Son’ now—if he wants him! He did claim to be God’s Son, didn’t he?” Even the two criminals crucified next to him joined in the mockery. (Message)

We don’t just learn for the knowledge. You learn so that you can use it. All you in sports…when a coach critiques you or corrects your actions. He doesn’t just want you to have the knowledge. He wants you to apply that knowledge and do better next time!

When a boss or manager tells you how to do your task better or more efficiently. They don’t want you to say – oh ok. That’s nice. And then keep doing it the way you were doing it!! You have the knowledge to use!!

Same with parents, teachers, friends, …. Everyone! Every relationship you have – when someone gives you advice or asks you to do something or is teaching you something. It’s never for the sake of knowledge. They want you to apply that knowledge!

And Yep...God doesn't want us to just have knowledge. He wants us to take Action and be Doers of His Word!

James 1:22 (ESV)

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only..." (ESV)

"Do what God’s teaching says; don’t just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves. (Easy-to-Read)

Episode #97

These days on Social Media you are constantly seeing posts by “influencers” and “brand ambassadors”. Well what exactly is that? Influencers are seen as someone who has influence over others. They have a large following or at least a following of people that want to hear what they have to say.

Brand Ambassadors may not have the same amount if influence as larger influencers but they have a following of people that respect their work or their knowledge in a particular field of expertise.

As followers of Christ, we are called to be Brand Ambassadors for Jesus!

20 We are Christ’s ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you: we beg you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love he offers you—be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20 (TLB)

The Resurrection of Jesus brings us Peace! We can be confident that Jesus is who He claimed to be!

1 Corth 15:17-19

17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is a delusion and you are still lost in your sins. 18 It would also mean that the believers in Christ who have died are lost. 19 If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more,[a] then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the world. Please listen to part 1 (episode #94) 1st. We realize we all will have some type of thorn in our flesh at some point in life. This podcast we look at why and the purpose of the thorns.

2 Cor 12:7

7 I will say this: because these experiences I had were so tremendous, God was afraid I might be puffed up by them; so I was given a physical condition which has been a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to hurt and bother me and prick my pride. (TLB)

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NLT)

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Episode 94

A saying I used to hear a lot growing up is “Thorn in my side” or “Pain in my side”

If you have never heard it or not sure what it means it’s just a saying to refer to something or someone who is annoying, frustrating, trouble, painful, etc. I think most people use it to refer to someone – Such and such person is a “thorn in my side” or “pain in my side!”

But sometimes it stuff – maybe it’s literally a physical condition that you live with that is constantly bothering you, annoying you, giving you frustrations, or pain – mental, physical, emotional, etc.

Sometimes we have “pains” that are very short lived and don’t last long. Others we might have for our entire lives!

Well guess what…that saying originates from the Bible. Paul referred to a thorn in his flesh.

2 Cor 12:7

7 I will say this: because these experiences I had were so tremendous, God was afraid I might be puffed up by them; so I was given a physical condition which has been a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to hurt and bother me and prick my pride. (TLB)

We all have thorns! Some short lived and others for life but it doesn't mean that God doesn't love you nor does it mean He loves you less than those around you!

Episode 93

This past week I heard the amazing story of Dakota Meyer who received that congressional medal of honor for his courageous actions during the Battle at Ganjgal in the war in Afghanistan 2009.

I had never heard the story before and man…it’s crazy. There needs to be a movie about it. But anyways. It really rocked my whole day. I couldn’t quit thinking about it.

His story of bravery and courage is incredible but what really struck me was his love for his fellow soldiers – both American and Foreign. They were his teammates and he was willing to sacrifice his life for them!

It reminded me of these Bible passages:

John 15:13

"The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them." (GNT)

Romans 5:8

“We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.” (Message)

One of the most fundamental and most important truths to remember about God is that He loves us! Loves us more than we can comprehend!  I know you listening have someone in your life that your love with all your being! But even that love isn’t as much as God loves us!

But think about this for a minute. The people that you love in your life…what to you want for them?  Do you want good and not evil for them? Sure you do! Do you want blessings and not curses?  Sure you do!  Do you what benefits them or what harms them? You want whats best for them or what’s worst for them?

Of course you want all the good things for them if you truly love them!

2 BIG keys to God answering our prayers…the way we want…is 1. Is it what’s Best for us? 2. And is the timing right?

God is working for our GOOD! TRUST that!!!

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans. (NLT)

The prayer of Jabez can be a powerful prayer in your life as you strive to be and achieve all that God has created you for! He refused to be a victim and wanted to achieve great things!

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

9 Jabez was more distinguished than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because she had such a hard time at his birth (Jabez means[a] “Distress”).

10 He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work; please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (TLB)

If you are familiar with Chick-Fil-A then you know how important customer service is to them! It's their differentiator! It's what makes them stand out! They care more about the customer's positive experience than they do about making great food! Don't get me wrong...they care about great tasting food but they care so much more about the customer!

And this has helped them become one of the most successful companies on the planet! It has served them well by serving others!

That's what we are called to do as Christ Followers....serve others! And this will serve us well!

Matt 20:28

“Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.”

Phil 2:4

"And look out for one another's interests, not just for your own." (GNT)

Gal 5:13-14

"For, dear brothers, you have been given freedom: not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other. For the whole Law can be summed up in this one command: “Love others as you love yourself.” (TLB)

Episode 88

I got asked the question recently – Do you have to believe everything in the Bible? It’s a good question. And I believe the mindset of picking and choosing what to believe is a very common practice in our World today. We can thank Media, News, social media and many other sources for this! When you are constantly bombarded with lies and half-truths...you have to pick and choose what’s real and what’s fake...what's truth and what is lies!

So many people – including myself – are skeptical of so many things because of all the lies and hidden agendas out there! So, I don’t blame people for being skeptical of the Bible.

James 2:10 (message)

"You can’t pick and choose in these things, specializing in keeping one or two things in God’s law and ignoring others. The same God who said, “Don’t commit adultery,” also said, “Don’t murder.” If you don’t commit adultery but go ahead and murder, do you think your non-adultery will cancel out your murder? No, you’re a murderer, period." (Message)

Episode 87

Something that I have learned through lots of experience is that we if are going to improve overall or even in a specific area of our lives…developing good habits is key to success.

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is 1 Cor 9:25. Because I have come to learn and respect Grit and self-discipline. I certainly didn’t appreciate it or understand the value of it when I was younger but now I do see the value! And the fact that it talks about being an athlete and being competitive and striving to win! But the passage applies to so many different aspects of life.

1 Cor 9:25

25 Everyone who competes practices self-discipline in everything. The runners do this to get a crown of leaves that shrivel up and die, but we do it to receive a crown that never dies. (Common English)

25 All who compete in the games use strict training. They do this so that they can win a prize—one that doesn’t last. But our prize is one that will last forever. (Easy to Read)

25 Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last forever. (GNT)

Habits can help us stay on path and keep us in a routine.

Bad habits are keeping us from progressing!

But ultimately...Habits really can make us and break us!

Titus 3:2

2 Tell them not to speak evil of anyone, but to be peaceful and friendly, and always to show a gentle attitude toward everyone. (GNT)

“…..God’s people should be bighearted and courteous.” (Message)

I know this just seems common sense but it’s not! Don’t speak evil about others and show kindness and courtesy... Seems simple but not in our culture! Christ wants us to constantly be a light and be a witness for him and these are a couple of ways we can do that!

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great holiday break and is excited about a new year! I am! Which for me and my family we are in a new chapter of life, In a new city, new schools for the boys, new community for us to get involved in, etc.

Some of you listening may be in a similar boat…lots of new changes for you in 2022 or will be coming in this year.

So today, I’m reflecting back at this past year. I had no idea all that would happen in 2021. But as I listened back on my 1st podcast of 2021 (Episode 43), I talked about a prayer that I was going to pray for that year. And this is what it is:

The passage is Colossians 1:9-12

9 So ever since we first heard about you we have kept on praying and asking God to help you understand what he wants you to do; asking him to make you wise about spiritual things; 10 and asking that the way you live will always please the Lord and honor him, so that you will always be doing good, kind things for others, while all the time you are learning to know God better and better.

11 We are praying, too, that you will be filled with his mighty, glorious strength so that you can keep going no matter what happens—always full of the joy of the Lord, 12 and always thankful to the Father who has made us fit to share all the wonderful things that belong to those who live in the Kingdom of light. Episode 84

Christmas is just days away and we ALL need to stay focused on the Real Reason for the Season...JESUS!

Today's podcast is all about the Christmas Peace!

Luke 2:4-21

4 Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, the birthplace of King David. Joseph went there because he was a descendant of David. 5 He went to register with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him. She was pregnant, 6 and while they were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to have her baby. 7 She gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger—there was no room for them to stay in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels 8 There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid, 10 but the angel said to them, “Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. 11 This very day in David's town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord! 12 And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God:

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!”

15 When the angels went away from them back into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and saw the baby lying in the manger. 17 When the shepherds saw him, they told them what the angel had said about the child. 18 All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said. 19 Mary remembered all these things and thought deeply about them. 20 The shepherds went back, singing praises to God for all they had heard and seen; it had been just as the angel had told them.

Jesus Is Named 21 A week later, when the time came for the baby to be circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given him before he had been conceived.

Episode 83

It's real easy (for students especially) to make Christmas all about us! What do we want this year? What’s on my list?

But that’s not what Christmas is about! Never was about that and never will be about that! It’s about the gift of a Savior! The gift of baby Jesus! Which is the best gift we can ever receive!

Matt 2:9-10

9-10 And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 11 They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to him.

None of us like punishment BUT punishment does produce Wisdom (if we allow it to)!

“To discipline a child produces wisdom,

but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.” Proverbs 29:15 (NLT)

When we are not punished or when we don't punish others, we are not instilling wisdom to those who need behavior corrected.

Life is full of valleys (lows and difficult times) and mountain tops (good times when everything seems to be going your way). Of course its natural to love the mountain tops and hate the valleys. We look forward to mountain tops and dread the valleys and try everything possible to get out of the valleys as soon as possible.

This podcast puts a twist on that mindset and how we need to be thankful for the valleys!

We all mess up because we are humans!  But sometimes our mess ups are bigger than normal.  In this podcast I give advice on what you should do if/when this happens to you.  This is based on my own life experiences as well as experience that I have gained from working with and counseling tons of teenager over the course of 2 decades.

I'm sure at some point in your life you have wondered why God made you the way you are and why couldn't He have "improved" some of your traits, characteristics, etc. That what I discuss today! You are not an after thought or a mistake! You were well thought out by God and created with Love and for a purpose and a plan! But if we are not careful, we can fall into the trap of questioning God and focusing on our "negatives" instead of all the positives we have!

Psalm 139:14

“I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe.

You have approached even the smallest details with excellence;

Your works are wonderful;

I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.”

Episode 78

As living human beings, we don't deserve much but that doesn't stop people from thinking they are entitled to soo much and that they deserve all sorts of blessings, good lives, and on and on.

However, God tells us that we have all fallen short! We all have sinned! (Rom 3:23). And He goes on to tell us in Rom 6:23 - "When people sin, they earn what sin pays—death. But God gives his people a free gift—eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (easy to read). So in all honesty we deserve death and we deserve separation from God who is Holy and Perfect! But God gives us a way to Him and a way to Life by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives!

So be grateful you and I don't get what we Deserve and instead God gives us Grace and Eternal Life!

There’s a popular saying that says:

If it’s Easy, It’s not Worth it; If it’s Worth it, It won’t be Easy

I realize this isn’t a universal truth and there will be some exceptions to this but I have to say…the more life I live and the wiser that I’ve gotten over the years…this statement has a lot of Truth to it!!

Guys, life is tough! And to make the most of life and to succeed (and not just financial success but more in the sense of relationships, impact, careers, business, athletics, spiritual life…all areas of life…its not going to be easy! We will get tired but we must not give up!

“Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9 NLT).

Episode 76

Critical Thinking is a bit of a hot topic currently in our World with all that is going on (Covid, Vaccine Mandates, Racism, Political Division, etc). Critical thinking can be defined as:

“Critical thinking is the ability to think in an organized and rational manner in order to understand connections between ideas and/or facts. It helps you decide what to believe in. In other words, it’s “thinking about thinking””

So now more than any other time that I’ve been alive do I believe that we as individuals and as a society need to be critical thinkers about the information that we are being fed!

Every day we are bombarded with lies and half truths!

But critical thinking isn't just for politics, education, science, etc...it's also needed for our spiritual beliefs!

Col 2:6-8

6 You have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord. Now keep on following him. 7 Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.

8 Don’t let anyone fool you by using senseless arguments. These arguments may sound wise, but they are only human teachings. They come from the powers of this world[a] and not from Christ. (CEV)

Episode 75

Garth Brooks sang a great song call "God's Greatest Gifts." The chorus of the song is this:

*Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers

Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs

That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care

Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers*

I don't really believe in unanswered prayers but I do believe God delays answering our prayers and/or He gives us an answer we didn't want! But the idea of the song that some of God's Greatest Gifts are Unanswered Prayers is genius! There are soo many of my prayers that I'm glad God didn't answer the way I wanted Him to at the time!

Isaiah 55:9

*“I don’t think the way you think.

The way you work isn’t the way I work.”

God’s Decree.

“For as the sky soars high above earth,

so the way I work surpasses the way you work,

and the way I think is beyond the way you think. (Message)*

*Just as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways,

and my plans than your plans. (Common English Version)*

That's the focus of this podcast and the faster we believe in this and trust this, the better off we will be!

Episode 73

As I personally transition into a new chapter of my life - closing out 13 years of being a youth pastor on a church staff - I stay true to my Mission. My mission hasn't changed. The way avenue(s) I use might be changing but my mission is still the same. My mission is clear and so is yours! Once we have accomplished the main objective in life - to become followers of Christ - then our new mission becomes very clear. It's given to all Christians in Matthew 28:18-20

18 Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.” (GNT)

Today (9/1/2021) is a special day for me. It’s the start of a new chapter for me. I finished up my last chapter which was being the youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Venice, FL (FBCV). It was a great 8 years with lots of great memories!

So everyone wants to know “What’s Next?” Well I’m not 100% certain what the future is. God has definitely opened some doors for us as a family and we are pursuing that. As more time goes by, I’ll be able to reveal more. But something that God has taught me is that HE is Faithful and He is in Control! And I have been completely at peace with knowing that!

But as of today, I am unemployed and starting a new chapter...a new beginning - Day One Dollar Zero!

One of my Favorite passages from the Bible is in the book of Micah. I figured since my name is Micah, I better have a passage from that book of the Bible that I really like...Haha. Well it turns out that I do! It's Micah 6:8 and in this passage we are told 3 things that God required of His people. In this episode, we talk about those 3 things and how God still wants us doing/living like that today!

8 *The Lord has told you, human, what is good;

he has told you what he wants from you:

to do what is right to other people,

love being kind to others,

and live humbly, obeying your God. (NCV – New Century Version)*

For the past couple months my messages and this podcast have focused on “The Process” – trusting the process and last week it was how God is developing our character and He cares more about that than us be comfortable.

All these things – trusting God, trusting His process, developing God’s character in us….these all lead to Spiritual maturity.  And Spiritual Maturity is a Lifelong Process!

Ephesians 4:13

“This will continue until we are united by our faith and by our understanding of the Son of God. Then we will be mature, just as Christ is, and we will be completely like him.” (CEV)

You have probably heard the sayings that “God cares more about your holiness than your happiness” and “more about your character than your comfort”.

Comfort can be both good and bad! It’s tricky! We ALL LOVE comfort! Comfort is Easy, its feels good. But sometimes comfort keeps us from growing and that's what I talk about in today's episode...how to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

Ephesians 4:22-24

22 So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to—the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. 23 Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, 24 and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy. (GNT)

“Take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.” (The Message)

When you think about it….Life is composed of experiences! It’s a mass accumulation of experiences. Some Good, some bad, and some indifferent! All those experiences make you who you are!

We can let our experiences be just experiences or we can learn from them and grow from them.

Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him.” Deuteronomy 11:2

We need to be learning and remembering what we have learned from our experiences in order to become the person God wants us to be!

Episode 67

So many times in life we do things that we don't want to do and we are doing them for someone else - our parents, teachers, coaches, bosses, etc. It's part of life! But what if we changed our perspective and stopped doing those things for "man" and we do them for God!

Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.”(GNT)

"Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ." (Message)

Episode 66

This podcast builds on episode 64 where I talk about "Trusting The Process." A lot of times when coaches tell us to do something we don't want to do they will say, "trust the process." Parents on the other hand like to say, "because I said so!" Both of these statements leave us with little explanation other than we must trust the person saying them and have faith that it's for our own good.

"Noah was another who trusted God. When he heard God’s warning about the future, Noah believed him even though there was then no sign of a flood, and wasting no time, he built the ark and saved his family. Noah’s belief in God was in direct contrast to the sin and disbelief of the rest of the world—which refused to obey—and because of his faith he became one of those whom God has accepted." Hebrews 11:7 (TLB)

Noah built the ark because God said so! He trusted Him and trusted the process even though it seemed crazy and he didn't fully understand! But because of his obedience, God blessed him! Had he not obeyed....

What blessing are you potentially missing out on because of your disobedience? Or what blessing might you receive because of your obedience?!

Episode 64

You've heard the phrase before, "Trust the Process!" Usually said by someone who knows others are not going to understand and/or like what the process is going to involve. But the results will be liked and/or worth it in the end if the process is completed properly. Well, God has a process for all of us and in that process we are being molded to be more like Jesus! At times we won't "enjoy" it and at times we will not understand it BUT...it's necessary for our own good!

Phil 1:6 (NLT)

6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Episode 63

I have Marlem Louis as my guest on the podcast. He is a former student of mine at FBC Venice and is currently a student at Richmond University where he plays football. Of my 15 plus years of being a youth minister, Marlem is hands down one of the best student leaders I have ever had! His charisma, positivity, happiness, joy, humor, excitement for life, and love of Jesus is contagious. So we have a sit down conversation in this podcast about keys for succeeding as a Christian teenager in the middle school years, high school years, and then in college.

You have heard the saying, "Slow obedience is No obedience." Well this is a very true statement. Not only in life with parents and authority but it's true in our spiritual life as well. God wants and demands immediate obedience.

Psalm 119:60 (GNT)

“Without delay I hurry to obey your commands.”

Episode 61

Today - May 19th - is my anniversary! In fact it is our 20th!!

So today I want to honor my wife Lois Ann and honor Christ by speaking on Selfless Love! Christ showed us selfless love and that is a key to having successful relationships!

1Cor 13:4-8 (TLB) 4 Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, 5 never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. 6 It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. 7 If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.

8 All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever.

Romans 5:8 (TLB)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

John 15:13 (GNT) The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them.

Episode 60

I watched the Son of Sam documentary this past week and was reminded that small compromises can lead us down a deadly and destructive path! David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) later said he never thought he would end up killing people when he first became part of a Satanic Cult. It seemed somewhat "innocent."

I was reminded of a quote that says, “Sin will take you farther than you ever thought you would go;

It will keep you longer than you ever intended to stay;

And it will cost you more than you ever expected to pay.”

So TRUE! Don't compromise!

All around us we are being told to live a life based on our feelings: Do what makes you happy, etc. But this is NOT Biblical! So many times in the Bible we see where following our feelings gets us into trouble. And we see that some of God's most faithful had to deny their feelings and live according to Faith! Not all feelings are bad but certainly not all feelings are good and of God either! We must live a life of Faith and not Feelings!

Scientology is a religion that was started by a man named L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard was known for his science fiction writings. The word "Hindu" is derived from the word for Indus River (in modern day Pakistan and Northern India). The term was first used to describe the people who lived beyond the river Indus.

There doesn’t seem to be a completely agreed upon start date or how it actually got started. But it is a very old religion. But most Hindu's say “Its not a religion but a way of life.” I understand this is a way of life for them but because they believe and have faith in a god or gods and afterlife, it is essentially a religion.

In this podcast, I talk about the main points of Hinduism and some of their key terms.

Episode 49

We tend to think about and question the love of others in our lives so what about the Love that God has for us?

Let’s face it…at times we have or will at some point feel lonely! We are going to feel unloveable! But the great news is during those times we are still loved by the most important person…well Being…and that of course is God! God will always love us. This is His nature!

Jeremiah 1:5

5 “I chose you before I gave you life, and before you were born I selected you to be a prophet to the nations.” (GNT)

John 3:16

16-18 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. (message)

Bottom line is that God Does Love us far more than we can ever grasp and far greater than we can love Him or others! And He SHOWS us His love by His Promises and His Actions! And nothing will ever separate that Love!

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, 39 or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us. (TLB)

I continue the conversation of - Why bad things happen to good people. So if you have not listened to part 1 go back and listen to it.

We pick back up with the last 2 possible reasons that God allows bad things to happen and allows us to experience pain.

I use Job as an example; discussing all the bad that happened to this good man and how this story had an amazing ending.

Episode 46

It’s a common question and a seemingly good one.

But one of the first things that come to my mind is…Who is Good? And what definition of Good are we using?

If we look at what Jesus said in Mark 10:17-18

17 As he was starting out on a trip, a man came running to him and knelt down and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to get to heaven?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good! (TLB)

Isaiah 64:6-7

*We are all dirty with sin.

Even our good works are not pure.

They are like bloodstained rags.

We are all like dead leaves.

Our sins have carried us away like wind.* (TLB)

But regardless if we are "good" or not...There are 4 reasons I will cover as to why bad things happen to "good" people:

I will cover 2 in this episode and 2 more in the next.

We are to use our bodies and our lives as instruments for God's glory! Our lives should be a reflection of God.

The moon shines because its surface reflects light from the sun. And despite the fact that it sometimes seems to shine very brightly, the moon reflects only between 3 and 12 percent of the sunlight that hits it. So think about how bright the moon shines at times - like during a full moon on a clear night. It shines like a large street light in the night! But it's merely reflecting the sun's light!

So we too need to. be like the Moon. But instead of reflecting the sun, we reflect the Son's light - Jesus!

Are you using the talents and abilities that God gave you for your glory or for His glory?

Col 4:5b

“…Use your time in the best way you can.” (Easy to Read)

Acts 20:24

24 But life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s mighty kindness and love. (TLB)

24 I don’t care about my own life. The most important thing is that I finish my work. I want to finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace. (Easy to Read)

A favorite of quote of mine that I have on my bathroom mirror is:

"This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be a gain, not a loss – good not evil. Success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.” – Heartsill Wilson

Episode 43

Paul and Timothy wrote a letter to the Christians that lived in Colossae. In the beginning of this letter, Paul tells these Christians a prayer that he and Timothy are praying for them. As I was re-reading this passage this week it struck me as a great “New Year’s Resolution” or at least a prayer that I’m going to continue to pray for myself this year. And I believe you too should make this a goal and pray this prayer - perhaps daily this year.

(TLB)

Episode 42

Merry Christmas!

Luke 2: 6-12; 15-20 (TLB)

6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born; 7 and she gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him in a blanket[a] and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.

8 That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly an angel appeared among them, and the landscape shone bright with the glory of the Lord. They were badly frightened, 10 but the angel reassured them.

“Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you the most joyful news ever announced, and it is for everyone! 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born tonight in Bethlehem![b] 12 How will you recognize him? You will find a baby wrapped in a blanket,[c] lying in a manger!”

15 When this great army of angels had returned again to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Come on! Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 They ran to the village and found their way to Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 The shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story expressed astonishment, 19 but Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and often thought about them.

20 Then the shepherds went back again to their fields and flocks, praising God for the visit of the angels, and because they had seen the child, just as the angel had told them.

Episode 41

I LOVED getting presents at Christmas time as a kid! I think back to some awesome gifts I got and how much happiness they brought me at the time!

But as Ive gotten older, I love giving gifts more than receiving them! Especially when it comes to giving my sons Christmas gifts! I love seeing thier excitement and happiness!

But here’s the thing…Every tangible present that we receive here on Earth cannot fulfill the ultimate joy that God wants us to have. Nor will the happiness last forever. Just like with all those awesome presents I received as a kid…yeah they made me the happiest kid in the world for a moment. But then you get tired of those toys or something newer and better comes along and then we set our desire on that!

But the really cool thing is…God knows how to give gifts a lot better than we do! And he has given us the Ultimate present!

Rom 3:24-26

“…Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.

25-26 God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear…God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness.” (Message)

This is the gift that lasts FOREVER! There is just no other gift compared to this one! Everlasting life with Jesus!!!

Episode 40

Last week we talked about Advent. As a quick refresher…that word means "the coming." And the 1st advent was about the coming of Jesus (the birth). And the ancient world eagerly awaited the coming of Jesus! After Isaiah told them about a future Savior, they had to wait 700 years for His birth!

The 2nd Advent is about the return of Christ as King and Judge! We don't know when this will be but we too eagerly await.

Titus 2:12-13

12 That grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world, 13 as we wait for the blessed Day we hope for, when the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ[a] will appear. (GNT)

Not only will Jesus return one day...He returns as the Victor! So we wait but we wait as Champions! The game has already been decided and we are just waiting for the time to expire! (Rev 19:11-21)

Episode 39

Advent means "The Coming." It is typically celebrated 4 Sunday's before Christmas - my favorite holiday of the year!!

Celebrating Advent means learning how to wait. Waiting is an art which our impatient age has forgotten. We want to pluck the fruit before it has had time to ripen. Greedy eyes are soon disappointed when what they saw as luscious fruit is sour to the taste. In disappointment and disgust they throw it away. The fruit, full of promise rots on the ground. It is rejected without thanks by disappointed hands....The greatest, the deepest, the most tender experiences in all the world demand patient waiting.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Luke 2:25-32

25 At that time there was a man named Simeon living in Jerusalem. He was a good, God-fearing man and was waiting for Israel to be saved. The Holy Spirit was with him 26 and had assured him that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's promised Messiah. 27 Led by the Spirit, Simeon went into the Temple. When the parents brought the child Jesus into the Temple to do for him what the Law required, 28 Simeon took the child in his arms and gave thanks to God:

29 *“Now, Lord, you have kept your promise,

and you may let your servant go in peace.*30 With my own eyes I have seen your salvation,31 which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples:32 *A light to reveal your will to the Gentiles

and bring glory to your people Israel.”* (GNT)

This Christmas be reminded to wait patiently on God's plan, purpose, and his timing!

*Patience leads to abundant understanding,

but impatience leads to stupid mistakes.* (prov 14:29 – CEB)

Episode 38

Of course there are bad things that happen in life and there are times of difficulty, pain, and heartache...But God tells us to be Thankful.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16-18 Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. (message)

16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (NLT)

So how do we do this when things are not all happy and great?!

It's about your perspective. And it's about understanding that God isn't telling us to be happy about all things that exist in life or that happen in life. He's telling us to be thankful in all situations! There is a big difference! In this episode, I explain this more!

Episode 37

As we get close to Thanksgiving, I pray you have many things to be thankful for! But something we all should be thankful for is Life! Being alive is a something we tend to take for granted but what a great gift it really is!

Ecc 9:4-6

4 There is hope for those who are still alive—it does not matter who they are. But this saying is true:

A living dog is better than a dead lion.

5 The living know that they will die, but the dead don’t know anything. They have no more reward. People will soon forget them. 6 After people are dead, their love, hate, and jealousy are all gone. And they will never again share in what happens on earth. (Easy to Read)

Episode 36

When you play sports, how much value do you think it would be to have the other team’s playbook or in baseball terms – knowing their signs? It is a huge benefit! That’s why teams spend so much time studying game film. They are trying to figure out what the other team is going to do. How they are going to attack and how they are going to defend. Who are the key players, etc.

Good news for us as Christians...Satan’s playbook has been given to us!

2 Corinthians 2:11

“...I don’t want Satan to outwit us. After all, we are not ignorant about Satan’s scheming.” (Names of God)

“…We know very well what his plans are.” (Easy to Read)

He is the father of Lies and a deceiver!

One of the best things we can do is put on the Armor of God!

(Eph 6:10-18a)

10 Last of all I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within you. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand safe against all strategies and tricks of Satan. 12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world.

13 So use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up.

14 But to do this, you will need the strong belt of truth and the breastplate of God’s approval. 15 Wear shoes that are able to speed you on as you preach the Good News of peace with God. 16 In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. 17 And you will need the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the Word of God. Pray all the time…(TLB)

In the end, Satan is defeated and Jesus is the Victor which means we as followers of Christ are victorious as well! Stay focused on Jesus, Pray continually, and put on the Armor of God daily!

It's easy to get caught up in the Comparison Game where we are constantly comparing ourselves to others. This is especially true because of social media where we are constantly seeing everyone's best...everyone's highlight reel!

Episode 32

I love the concept of preparation meeting opportunity! The more life I live, the more I see this truth being played out over and over - "Success occurs when preparation meets opportunity." I use the word success loosely but it can even mean a more favorable result in this case. Too often we get way too focused on the opportunity and don't spend nearly enough time preparing for that opportunity!! No doubt God wants us to be prepared for life.

In this podcast I talk about 3 specific areas that I believe is most beneficial for teenagers. The 3 areas are:

  1. Extracurricular Activities

  2. Relationships

  3. Spiritually

Matt 24: 42-44

42 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. 43 Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. 44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

1 Peter 3:15

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Bottom line is that God wants us to be prepared! Focus less on the opportunity and more on being prepared! Obviously the most important thing that you can do in this life is prepare for eternity!

Romans 10:9

9 For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and believe in your own heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Episode 29

Yes we want to live a life that is recommendable and we want to live in a manner that others respect how we live as followers of Christ. But just because we live a life like that doesn't mean everyone will respect that. As followers of Christ we will be ridiculed and we will get made fun of and we will get "hated" on. The fact is there are mean and evil people in this world.

So stop caring what others think of you! You are spending time and energy and emotion worrying about it but in the end the only opinion that matters is God's!!

Proverb 29:25

*The fear of human opinion disables;

trusting in God protects you from that.* (Message)

It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe. (GNT)

Gal 1:10

10 You can see that I am not trying to please you by sweet talk and flattery; no, I am trying to please God. If I were still trying to please men I could not be Christ’s servant. (TLB)

10 Does this sound as if I am trying to win human approval? No indeed! What I want is God's approval! Am I trying to be popular with people? If I were still trying to do so, I would not be a servant of Christ. (GNT)

Josh 1:9

9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NLT)

9 Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.” (GNT)

Episode 28:

Building on the last episode when I talked about living a life that is recommendable, we take it a step further. Paul tells the Christians in Thessalonica that not only should they love others but they also should mind their own business and go do work!

1 Thess 4:11-12

11 Do all you can to live a peaceful life. Mind your own business, and earn your own living, as we told you before. 12 If you do these things, then those who are not believers will respect the way you live. And you will not have to depend on others for what you need. (Easy-To-Read version)

11 This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and doing your own work, just as we told you before. 12 As a result, people who are not Christians will trust and respect you, and you will not need to depend on others for enough money to pay your bills. (Living Bible)

Paul says (and showed us with his life) that we should be "good citizens" but yet still be bold in our Christian beliefs and our witness. But instead of going and meddling in other people's business and getting caught up in public controversies that we should just focus on the most important thing - which is sharing Jesus with others while earning the respect of non-believers. Now there are times in which we as Christians need to be vocal and stand up for what is right for the sake of Christ. But there is a fine line and that's where you need to pray about it and see what Christ would have you do.

We also gain the respect of others by being hard workers. Lazy people and people who constantly mooch off of others don't get the respect from others! But hard workers who do the right thing and work with integrity....those people have respect!

Episode 27

I heard a business professional say that we should live a recommendable life. Meaning that the words we speak and the actions we do should be honest, dependable, and worthy of others respect to the point where they would recommend us for something - that something might be a job, a service, a product, etc. But as I thought about it, I thought that yes we as Christians should be living a life that is recommendable as well! Our lives should represent Christ to the point where others would recommend Christianity based on what they see and hear from us!

Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon) said, “Your brand is what other people say about you when you're not in the room.” We all have an individual brand! As followers of Christ that brand should be a light for Christ.

Matt 5:16

16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

Episode 26

Self Evaluation / Reflection is something that is important and can be very valuable in multiple areas of our life – especially our spiritual growth.

2 Cor 13:5

5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. (NLT)

5 Check up on yourselves. Are you really Christians? Do you pass the test? Do you feel Christ’s presence and power more and more within you? Or are you just pretending to be Christians when actually you aren’t at all? (Living Bible)

5-9 Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. (message)

We need to spend less time grilling other people and spend more time evaluation our own lives and our own faith in Jesus!

Episode 25

I continue the talk from the previous episode about Old vs New Testament. Jesus arrives in the New Testament and creates a new covenant/agreement. This time the covenant is not just for ancient Israel, its for All people!

Jesus says in Matt 5:17

17 “Don’t assume that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” (HCSB)

17-18 “Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together…” (Message)

Later Jesus is asked which is the greatest command and this is how He responded:

Matt 22:36-40

36 “Sir, which is the most important command in the laws of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ 38-39 This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: ‘Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.’ 40 All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets stem from these two laws and are fulfilled if you obey them. Keep only these and you will find that you are obeying all the others.”

So it's all about loving God and loving others!

Do your actions and words show that you love God and love others? If not....

Episode 24

I know the Bible can be confusing at times. This is especially true when you talk about the Old Testament and the New Testament. So many laws and practices in the Old Testament don't seem to apply to the New Testament. And then some things in the Old Testament seem to still be true for the New Testament. So how do you know which is "outdated" and which is "relevant"?

In this podcast I talk about the differences in the 2 testaments and give a foundation on which we will build on for the next podcast when we talk about sin and if the 10 Commandments are still relevant.

Episode 23

How does David - a man after God’s own heart (see passage below) - go from being loyal to God and seeking Him for every decision to committing murder?

22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ Acts 13:22

It doesn't happen overnight! It's small compromises that lead you way down a path you never intended to go! It's small compromises that lead to big disasters!

Episode 22

Life is full of "things" that slow us down and/or keep us from moving forward towards a goal. This is true for pretty much everything in life...school, sports, relationships, career, business, health, and of course spiritual.

Heb 12:1-2

12 As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. 2 Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne. (Good News Translation)

12 Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.

2 Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the place of honor by the throne of God. (Living Bible)

12 1-3 Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! (Message)

We have to learn to recognize and then get rid of the things that slow us down and hold us back spiritually. Sin tends to grab hold of us and doesn't want to let go! But it can ultimately keep us from finishing our race of faith!

Episode 21

So many people believe the purpose of life is to be Happy or the Pursuit of Happiness! It's a misconception. I believe most people are actually pursuing gratification instead of happiness. And in reality they should be pursuing Joy instead of happiness! Today I talk about all 3 of these concepts and how they relate and how they are very different. Only Joy will fulfill us in the end. Gratification and Happiness will always leave us empty and/or wanting more.

Solomon who had it all - Money, Power, Fame, Wisdom, and Women - had this to say:

Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

1-3 I said to myself, “Let’s go for it—experiment with pleasure, have a good time!” But there was nothing to it, nothing but smoke.

What do I think of the fun-filled life? Insane!

*My verdict on the pursuit of happiness? Who needs it?

With the help of a bottle of wine

and all the wisdom I could muster,

I tried my best

to break through the absurdity of life.

I wanted to get a handle on anything useful we mortals might do

during the years we spend on this earth.*

4-8 Oh, I did great things:

*built houses,

planted vineyards,

designed gardens and parks

and planted a variety of fruit trees in them,

made pools of water

to irrigate the groves of trees.

I bought slaves, male and female,

who had children, giving me even more slaves;

then I acquired large herds and flocks,

larger than any before me in Jerusalem.

I piled up silver and gold,

loot from kings and kingdoms.

I gathered a chorus of singers to entertain me with song,

and—most exquisite of all pleasures—

voluptuous maidens for my bed.*

9-10 Oh, how I prospered! I left all my predecessors in Jerusalem far behind, left them behind in the dust. What’s more, I kept a clear head through it all. Everything I wanted I took—I never said no to myself. I gave in to every impulse, held back nothing. I sucked the pleasure out of every task—my reward to myself for a hard day’s work!

11 Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work. But when I looked, I saw nothing but smoke. Smoke and spitting into the wind. There was nothing to any of it. Nothing.

He had it all but still was left void!

Episode 19

This episode continues to build on the theme of "Doing Good." In the last podcast, I talked about Galatians 6:7-8

7 Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows! 8 If he sows to please his own wrong desires, he will be planting seeds of evil and he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death; but if he plants the good things of the Spirit, he will reap the everlasting life that the Holy Spirit gives him.

Many people call the principle of You Reap What You Sow as Karma. But Karma is an Eastern religion term so we as Christians should try to avoid that term so that we don't potential confuse non-believers.

Well Paul continues to talk about doing good in the next couple of verses.

9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith

Paul encourages us to not get tired of doing good. To not get fatigued! But that is easier said than done! However if we continue to do good and not give up, we will reap a good harvest! We will be rewarded!

Episode 18

In my previous episodes, I've talked about doing good. I continue to build on this foundation. I believe our world desperately needs for others to step up and do good. Our world is full of hate, division, and selfishness. Christians need to step up and do good things! Serve others and help others and encourage and love others!

Not only is it jus the right thing to do and Jesus commanded us to do it but there is also another reason.

Gal 6:7-8

7 Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows! 8 If he sows to please his own wrong desires, he will be planting seeds of evil and he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death; but if he plants the good things of the Spirit, he will reap the everlasting life that the Holy Spirit gives him.

This is what the world likes to call Karma but it's a Biblical principle of reaping what you sow!

Episode 17

With all the wrong doings by police, protestors, politicians, media, etc....We all need more Good deeds being done!

Paul concludes his letter to Titus with this:

Our people must learn to spend their time doing good, in order to provide for real needs; they should not live useless lives. (Titus 3:14)

Paul wanted Titus to instruct the Christians in Crete to do good! To meet the needs of those around them and to live USEFUL lives! Lives with purpose! Apparently the Christians in Crete were not living the way Christians should be living and doing good. Their lives seemed to be fruitless.

Jesus said His followers should produce fruit!

“A good tree does not produce bad fruit. And a bad tree does not produce good fruit. Every tree is known by the kind of fruit it produces. You won’t find figs on thorny weeds. And you can’t pick grapes from thornbushes! (Luke 6:43-44)

Episode 16

This week when I was reading the book of Titus, Paul's writing hit me hard! Paul was writing Titus to help Titus teach and instruct the followers of Jesus on the island of Crete. In the 3rd chapter, he talks about how believers should submit to authority and be obedient and peaceful with the governing authorities over them. Considering the times we are currently in with the Covid-19 pandemic and all the racial injustice...this passage really hit me!

“Remind the people to respect the government and be law-abiding, always ready to lend a helping hand. No insults, no fights. God’s people should be bighearted and courteous.

It wasn’t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which way by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that.” (Titus 3:1-5; Message)

Episode 15

Think about how much of life is waiting! We spend so much time waiting on all sorts of things from small and quick to large and long! I believe technology has decreased our patience because it has spoiled us into not having shorter wait times than we did in the past. Which is great but in many ways but I think it hurts us some when it comes to our impatience when waiting on answers and plans from God. We need to learn to wait on His timing. But we also need to wait Expectantly for those things He has promised (His will or promises found in the Bible). Expect God to answer your prayers! Expect God to fulfill His purpose in your Life! Expect God to use you for His glory! He is in control! We need to trust Him and have more faith in Him which allows us to wait expectantly!

“I wait expectantly, trusting God to help, for he has promised.” Psalm 130:5 (TLB)

Episode 14

In last week's podcast I talked about how Love is the answer to living in a time of hate and division. I continue the theme of love and pick up where we left off last week. Which is the story that Jesus tells of the Good Samaritan when explaining who our neighbor is. The Jews and the Samaritans despised each other yet in the story it was the Samaritan that came to help the Jew when his own fellow Jews wouldn't even come to his rescue!

Luke 10:25-37

30 Jesus replied with an illustration: “A Jew going on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes and money, and beat him up and left him lying half dead beside the road.

31 “By chance a Jewish priest came along; and when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. 32 A Jewish Temple-assistant[b] walked over and looked at him lying there, but then went on.

33 “But a despised Samaritan[c] came along, and when he saw him, he felt deep pity. 34 Kneeling beside him the Samaritan soothed his wounds with medicine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his donkey and walked along beside him till they came to an inn, where he nursed him through the night.[d] 35 The next day he handed the innkeeper two twenty-dollar bills[e] and told him to take care of the man. ‘If his bill runs higher than that,’ he said, ‘I’ll pay the difference the next time I am here.’

36 “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the bandits’ victim?”

37 The man replied, “The one who showed him some pity.”

Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”

Episode 13

I'm so trouble by all the hate that is currently in our country! The recent killing of George Floyd by a white police officer...all caught on video. It's horrible and so troubling to watch! And now a week later our country is in chaos with rioting and looting every night. I fully support the peaceful protesting for George and other black people who have been victims of racism! It's not right! It's evil!

But I do not support the rioting and looting that others are doing (all races)! That's wrong as well! That's evil as well!

God created ALL of us in the imagine of Himself! We as humans (no matter color, gender, race, socioeconomic status, etc) are all God's children! We need more love! Love doesn't allow for racism! Love doesn't even allow for us to hate our enemies!

We are called to love others as ourselves!

Mark 12:29-31

...So he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus replied, “The one that says, ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only God. And you must love him with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. “The second is: ‘You must love others as much as yourself.’ No other commandments are greater than these.” (TLB)

We are also called to love our enemies as hard as that may be!

Matt 5:43-45

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. (NLT)

Jesus was an innocent man who was tormented, humiliated, and murder. He responded in love and said to pray for them! We need to follow Jesus' lead. We need to love everyone! We can't change others. But we can love others and pray for others and pray that God changes their hearts and takes the evil and hatred out of them.

Episode 12

This is part 5 and the conclusion of my series on The Last Dance (Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls documentary). In the last episode of The Last Dance, Michael Jordan is reflecting back on his last season with the Bulls in which they won the Championship in 1998. They has a stacked team at the time and had won 6 titles! But this was it...this was the last season with all these superstars and their coach. They had been told at the beginning of the season that things were going to change after the season. Upper management wanted to go a different direction and begin to rebuild instead of continuing to pay high salaries with the stars they had.

Jordan believes they could have won 7 titles if they could have come back and played one more season. Here Jordan is 20+ years later still upset they he didn't get that chance and is haunted by the "What if..."

We all have those "What if..." moments in life where we look back and think about decisions made or life events.

But of all the "What ifs" we have in life, there is one that I never want to have and pray you never have either! That is the one that you have after you die and you are in eternity separated from God! "What if I had accepted Jesus as my Savior and given my life to him? I could be in Heaven with Him but instead I am forever separated and there is NO second chances or redos!

Luke 16:19-31 (The Rich Man and Lazarus)

Episode 11

I continue my series with part 4 of The Last Dance (Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls documentary). In the 8th episode of The Last Dance, Jordan and the Bulls talk about how in the 1995/96 season they were on track to beat the single season record of most games won in the NBA regular season. But that's wasn't their main objective. Their main goal was to be crowned the Champs! If they beat the record then great! But they wanted to stay focused on the main goal so they came up with a saying: "It don't mean a thing without the ring." They constantly said this to help stay focused. Because they knew if they beat the record for most wins but lost the championship then it wasn't a successful season after all.

This made me think of the following verse:

Matt 16:26

“What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?” (HCSB)

"What profit is there if you gain the whole world—and lose eternal life? What can be compared with the value of eternal life? (TLB)

"And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? (NLT)

That's the "Ring" for us as Christians! Eternal life! It doesn't matter if we break the season win record if we lose the championship...If we accumulate and accomplish all this world has to offer but lose our soul/ever lasting life...then we haven't won anything in the big picture!

Episode 10

In this episode, we continue the series on The Last Dance that is based on the documentary of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the 1980's and 1990's.

In episode 7 of the documentary, they discuss the type of teammate and leader that Jordan was. He was tough and hard and pushed his teammates really hard to be the best! He wanted to win and he wanted them to win! But he always led by example!

What kind of teammates are we when it comes to the game of life and the Christian faith? Are we helping our teammates - our brothers and sisters in Christ - be all they can be? Are we leading by example?

Proverbs 27:17 says:

"Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another." (CSB)

"As Iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend." (NLT)

Episode 9

This is part 2 of The Last Dance series that is based on The Last Dance documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls during their basketball dynasty in the 1990's.

In episode 5 of the documentary, Michael talks about his endorsement deal with Nike. While discussing the process he makes the following statement:

“My game is my biggest endorsement – what I did on the basketball court. My dedication to the game, lead to all this other stuff. Believe me, if I was averaging 2 points and 3 rebounds, I wouldn’t have signed anything, with anybody. So my game did all my talking!”

We, as followers of Jesus, should make sure our game (the way we live/our actions) is our biggest endorsement! What does our life say about who we are? What does is say about the God we believe in and the God we worship?

Matthew 5:14-16

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Episode 8

I've been watching the new documentary series called "The Last Dance" that is about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls 1990's dynasty. This past Sunday night I was watching episode 3 which featured Dennis Rodman. In an interview he said, “Basketball is simple. It’s a simple game. But when you leave this confined zone, it’s hard. It’s hard.”

I thought a lot about that statement. Confused at first but then it started to make more sense. In this podcast I talk about that statement and how being a Christian is similar. The game of Christianity is easy based on Paul's statement in Romans 10:9. "If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

It looks simple on paper but when we get outside the "confined zone" - it's hard!

Episode 7

Paul tell the Christians in Philippi to think about (dwell on/meditate on) things that are TRUE! We as Christians should focus on Truth!

He says in Philippians 4:8-9:

“And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.” (TLB)

So not only Truth but we as believers should also focus/meditate on things that are good and right and pure and lovely...

I've learned over the years that whatever we feed our mind has an impact on the way we think, talk, and act! If you constantly feed your mind with junk, it's not healthy and it is having an influence on you!

Currently (at the time of the making of this podcast) we are still in Quarantine from Covid-19. That means more time to fill our minds with social media, the internet, Netflix, music, etc. That means more opportunity for us to feed ourselves unhealthy junk if we are not careful! We need to be more intentional about feeding ourselves "Healthy Food" - which is Biblical Truth!

When we do this, God says He will give us PEACE! We all want and need more peace in our lives! This is one way, we can achieve it!

Episode 6

Even though Easter is only celebrated once a year, we should celebrate it EVERY day because in my opinion it is the Greatest Even in the History of the world! Why do I say that? Because everything about Christianity hinges on the fact that Jesus conquers death!

Paul said it best when he said:

"14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. 15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. 16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. 18 In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! 19 And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world." 1 Cor 15:14-19 (NLT)

The cool thing about the resurrection of Jesus is that there is historical evidence to support it! Not that we as Christians need evidence but that just supports our belief. When I was in seminary at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) I had the privilege of hearing and studying under a couple great Apologists (Apologetics is the defending of our faith) Gary Habermas and Mike Licona.

Today I share some of their research and findings that will help you in defending your faith and showing that the resurrection of Jesus is the most plausible explanation for the facts that exist.

Episode 5

Sometimes God delays rescuing us and that can be hard to understand. Why would a God who loves us so much, let us suffer and delay our rescue? That's a good question and we are going to talk about why that might be the case. Perhaps God wants to do some bigger in our life! Perhaps God is trying to get our full attention! Perhaps it's not even about us but about Him receiving more Glory!

We are going to read and talk about the story of how Jesus delayed in coming to the rescue of his close friend Lazarus. Instead of coming to heal his sickness, Jesus lets him die! But...why?? He had a bigger vision!

Our passage comes from John 11:1-45

Episode 4

Perspective is such a huge part of how we experience and evaluate life and life experiences. In this episode, I talk about how I personally came to realize this through Obstacle Course Racing - specifically Spartan Race. I learned to look at obstacles in life as opportunities for me to get better or learn something new versus being just a hinderance.

I discuss Paul and how he and Silas were able to sing praises to God after being beaten and thrown into jail for doing the right thing! And what the outcome of that was!

The passage used is Acts 16:25-35.

Are you a Control Freak? You may be more of a control freak than you think. I'm talking about how there are certain circumstances or certain parts of our life that we don't want to give up. We don't want to give God control of those areas because we like being in control! But ultimately God knows best and He is the one that is Ultimately in control!

Our verses used in today's podcast:

Psalm 46:10

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth”(Gods Word).

Colossians 1:17

"For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment." (MSG)

"Christ was before all things. All things are held together by Him." (New Life Version)

"He has always been! It is His hand that holds everything together." (the voice)
