We cover everything from the initial networking (whether you have a dream company in mind or you're not even sure what industry you want to work in) to applying for the job, standing out on your resume and application, how to prepare for the interview, and questions to ask during the interview itself. Welcome back! This week’s guest is smart West, psychologist, podcast host, and co-founder of the Boom Journal meditation app. Matt shares the story about how an injury in high school disrupted his life as an athlete, but led him to discover a deep passion for psychology, and eventually for mindful journaling. We talk about how in these obstacles there is often a silver lining and how if you aren’t mindful about your decisions, sometimes life will make those decisions for you.

Matt opens up about his own experience getting everything he thought he wanted (degree, job, family, house), only to find that there was still something missing. He talks about being a people pleaser and the importance of valuing and prioritizing yourself so you can show up for everyone else. He also gives tangible tips for how to be more mindful, including how to develop a mindfulness practice from scratch. We talk about the difference between mindset and mindfulness and different practices we can all implement into day.

Welcome back! Today we are joined by Katie Sands, Amazon On-Air Style Host and the face behind Instagram account @honestlykate. Katie opens up about how she started her Instagram as a way to share her favorite outfits with her friends and family, and how it eventually grew to a lifestyle destination for over 285 thousand people. What began as a fashion-only account now encompasses so many areas of her life: from mental health to workouts, and other pieces of her day-to-day routine. Katie is breaking the mold by continuously partnering only with brands who's values align with her own.

Since the start of COVID, she has made it a point that each of her partnerships have a charitable aspect, and she is mindful to create content that will resonate with people from all different financial backgrounds. As her name states, her brand is honest and authentic and chatting with her truly feels like catching up with a friend.

As someone who is constantly in the public eye, Katie typically keeps her family life and her relationships pretty separate, as a way to hold boundaries for herself and to respect the boundaries of the people in her life. We were lucky to hear some backstory of her current relationship - how they met, why she didn't want him to follow her account in the beginning, and a bit about what it was like dating in NYC with such a public career on social media. She also shares her advice on how to meet someone, what outfit to wear on a first date, and what her must-have quality is in a significant other.

Do first dates make you nervous? On today's MINISODE, Carleigh is breaking down all the questions she loves to ask on first dates. We chat about how to rephrase common questions to keep the conversation flowing, and to dig a little bit deeper and find out if this person is someone you want to go on a second date with. We also share our thoughts on questions that we think should be saved for later dates, or maybe not asked at all. We give advice on how to ask questions about things you might not even realize you're looking for in a relationship.

Some common questions we answer:

  • Is asking about previous relationships ok on a first date?
  • Is it bad if we talk about work the whole time?
    • How early on should we ask about their intentions for the relationship?
    • When should you bring up if you've been married and/or have kids?
    • How do I keep the conversation flowing but also keep the topics light and fun?

Welcome back! This week we are joined by Alexa Cawley, Founder & CEO of Forever Friday Consulting and Host of The Friday Society podcast. Alexa shares how her career with companies like Lululemon and SoulCycle helped her see a gap when it came to marketing representation of small, boutique companies within the wellness industry. She ultimately decided to fill this gap with the launch of Forever Friday, where she takes on clients of all sizes, from business owners to fitness instructors - she helps her clients create content, navigate social media, etc., and arms then with the tools to get their business where they want it to be.

This episode goes deep into how we've seen the fitness industry change over the last 10 years, specifically in NYC, first gradually and then abruptly in 2020 with the COVID19 pandemic. Alexa shares her favorite and least favorite wellness trends, her favorite way to sweat, what made her successful in the launch of her company, and what she thinks are the most important qualities in a fitness instructor today. We also talk about the importance of how bigger fitness companies like Peloton treat their employees, and how dating has changed in NYC during the same time period we've seen the fitness industry change.

This episode is part of a swap with did with Alexa, and you can head to The Friday Society to listen to our episode and to check out her other amazing episodes with guests like Elizabeth & Dale of Sweats and the City, Alexandra Bonetti of TalentHack, and so many more!

In this week's minisode, Mia is interviewing Carleigh about emotionally toxic relationships - how to identify them and how to move on. Toxic relationships can be extremely difficult to identify, especially while you are in them, and our hope is that you will benefit from hearing our experiences and be better equipped to navigate your relationships. Toxicity is not only found in romantic relationships, but also in friendships, in the workplace, and with family members.

We break down some of the signs that may indicate a toxic relationship and open up about our own experiences. We talk about if we believe this is something you might be able to fix, how to get out of it, and how to eventually move past it. If you have someone in your life who you think is toxic, you are not alone. Most people have dealt with this on some level and we strongly urge you to reach out to a support system or seek help from a therapist.

Amy shares her story of how learning to read her own astrology chart helped her find her own true identity and how she uses this tool among many others to help people through 1:1 coaching and healing.

Welcome back! Today we have Colleen Wachob, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Mindbodygreen, lifestyle media brand dedicated to inspiring you to live your best life through a 360-degree approach to wellness. Mindbodygreen has been a huge resource for us when it comes to learning about all different areas of “wellness”. In addition to the company’s media platform, mindbodygreen now offers functional nutrition coaching, thousands of wellness classes, and nutritional supplements that TRULY work.

Colleen is a wealth of information and it was such a pleasure chatting with her. We learn about how she and her husband Jason started MBG from the ground up, why she decided to take it full time, and what he’s been like building a staff of people who are passionate, driven, and dedicated to the success of the company. She opens up about what it’s like running a company with her husband and how they find work/life balance. We also talk about the intersection of health and wellness and how that has evolved over the years since MBG’s launch.

Colleen shares some insights on MBG’s readership, supplement sales, class enrollment & podcast listenership in 2020 when people have really started to prioritize all areas of wellness (fitness, mental health, spirituality, etc.). We chat about her favorite and least favorite wellness trends, what MBG supplement she (& Carleigh!) swears by for a deep, restorative sleep, the Pilates class she loves, and her thoughts on the Oura ring. At the end of the episode Colleen tells us the best trip she ever went on (hint: hikes & pizza), her favorite foods in NYC, her morning & night routine, and advice she would give to her younger self.

You can find Coleen at @colleenwachob on Instagram, and to learn more about MBG, head to @mindbodygreen on Instagram or mindbodygreen.com. And of course, check out their podcast here.

Right now you can get the MBG Ultimate Detox Bundle ($169 value) for just $69. The bundle includes a 14-Day detox plan, their AMAZING probiotic, and a gut health shopping list. Head to this link to learn more and to check out their other supplements and nutritional classes.

This week we are joined by KIRA WEST, Wellness Blogger and Digital Content Creator. Kira is a Brooklyn raised New Yorker working full time in tech and travel.  She uses her blog, ByKwest, as an outlet for her two greatest passions: Fitness and Travel and she is dedicated to making Wellness inclusive.

In this episode, we discuss how Kira developed her love for travel and fitness and started her blog from the ground up, how she chooses which brands to work with, how she is staying balanced during quarantine, and why wellness is a RIGHT, not a privilege.

We dive deep into what it means to be an ally, right now and every day, how we should all continue to show up for the black community, and the idea of progress over perfection and collaboration over competition.
