This podcast is a weekly conversation between hosts Tylena Jeans and Sara Woody to explore our own curiosity about some of these topics. Too often, a lack of understanding prompts fear and self-preservation instead of transformative learning. We hope to model heartfelt, curious, honest conversations about everything from pop culture to politics.
This week’s episode is historic and important for so many reasons! We got the legendary Squad chat together for the first time EVER. What else could bring us together like the combined feminine angst of Taylor Swift’s Red album and Adele’s new 30? We deep dive into our reactions to these two albums, and compare them too. What we’re not going to do is pit two powerhouse women against each other, but we talk about what parts of the albums make us feel seen and which parts leave us just…feeling.

In May, Netflix came out with a documentary series called High on the Hog, which explores how African cuisine has shaped US food culture. 1.Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

We are excited to share with you that we’re starting a series exploring different facets of resistance. We understand resistance to be the ways we free ourselves from bondage to patriarchy, white supremacy, and colonialism. Our teachers and guides out of this bondage must always be BIPOC, but this is a journey to which all people are invited. Our first exploration is with Mary Beth Johnson, a chronically ill food blogging Chapina who works in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago to teach young people about food justice and holistic nutrition. In her words, she has created her own masters' curriculum of food anthropology, soul care, justice, storytelling, earth care, ancestral eating and cooking. We LOVED talking to her about this topic, and can’t wait for you to learn more as you listen along. We’ve will update with several resources so be on the look out for that!
