Bone Throwers Theater: Recent Episodes

Bone Throwers Theater

Welcome to Bone Throwers Theater! We are a RPG actual play podcast. We play both long-term campaigns and one-shot sessions.

Our current main campaign is called Elements of War. It uses the OpenD6 Adventure System from West End Games. It is set in a world built using the game, Microscope. The characters are a citizens of a police state and choose to battle the tensions of various "revolutionary" factions.

Join us every Monday for new episodes of Elements of War. On Thursdays, look out for one-shot episodes from a variety of systems such as Fiasco, Inspectres, Cosmic Patrol, and more!

This one-shot kicks off with the FOUR HUNDREDTH, yes 400th, episode of the podcast! So of course we needed to make it a special one. We are play-testing a game that is still in development with a guest GM, and friend of the show, Mike. While we create characters in this episode, he shares glimpses and insights into the mechanics of the game, some of the steps that were taken in developing the system, along with a few inspirations for this "post-historic" world.

Finally, we discuss the last steps we need to take before we launch into our next long-run campaign.

We're finishing up our character focused episodes to start off season 3 with a look at to what the journey was like for Sam. Here we see more evidence that the trip wasn't a bonding experience for most of the characters. There are definite seeds of tension that will play heavily in future episodes. However, in the final scene, if appears that when the chips are down, they're all still in this together... mostly.

There was certainly a lot to digest in this first session of season 3, as well as a lot of "firsts" for our characters 2/3 of the way through their journey to the Animal Preserve. We comment on a first for the players in a different mode of storytelling. We really enjoyed the mystery and intrigue that this latest non-linear format brought to the table, and we hope you did as well. There are sure to be more "firsts" for both players and characters in the rest of the season.

Here it is, everyone! The last episode of the Fiasco Home Invasion one-shot we ran at GAD-Con 2013. All we have for this episode is the final montages. Here's what we rolled on the aftermath.

Carlin: White 2 (Merciless) Jeff: Black 5 (Rough) Jeremy: White 7 (Weak) Johnny: Black 10 (Pretty Good) Jordan: Black 1 (Horrible) Stephanie: White 2 (Merciless)

After our (rather dank) montage, we give a bit of commentary about how the session went.

We hope you've enjoyed this Throwback Thursday re-run!

And now it's time for some more commentary! We talk about the characters' motivations. We also talk about how Jorus, with his "get-the-job-done" attitude and mind-reading ability, influenced the group. Mike and Jeremy talk about how different TV characters influenced their initial character concepts. Jordan talks about how hard it is not to lead the characters. Jeremy mentions how hard it was to avoid meta-gaming.

Mike received a character point for advancing Valentine Montecute the most, particularly in his mentoring relationship with Brother Benedict. Johnny got the character point for best roleplaying. The introduction of Jorus caused a maturation of the group. Johnny got the point for best snack for bringing home-made jalapeño poppers.

And it wouldn't be a bone throwers session without some bad, bad puns.
