All objects become known to us when they are subjected to a sort of measuring up, with our act of knowing as a measuring rod, where our sense organs, mind, reasoning faculties, memories, value sense and the like serve as aids.

Unless the knowing consciousness exists, no known object would exist. Suppose the known object exists with no consciousness to know of it.

Whatever becomes an object of knowledge that could be referred to as this has no real existence apart from the knowing consciousness.

Verse 19: this is the final verse in the poem, and with it we now conclude this series of podcasts. The final verse is ofcourse wonderful, summary calling on our intuitiveness so that the veil can be removed and we can see what lies within. We cannot get there through logic, but through the penetrative eye of wisdom. Enjoy this final verse.

Verse 18: just as we forget that a gold chain is only gold taking the form of a chain, Atma has within it boundless potential to unfold itself as the world.

Why do we see a snake and think it’s a rope? The same reason we see the world and we think it is Real, when in fact it is an illusion or Maya.

Verse 16 is a special verse as it is here that we hear the word Atma for the first and only time within the poem. I also enjoyed the reference to the yogi as the miracle and this is explained through the reference to the book called Jonathan Livingston Seagull - a real treat.

This verse is beautiful and the key message here is that it is the ananda- beingness of the absolute Self that manifests and appears as the existence of each individual. Enjoy this wonderful verse.

This verse further clarifies that the one indivisible Reality is consciousness, and only consciousness. To perceive this needs an intuitive and penetrative eye. Enjoy this verse.

In this verse there is a beautiful reference to the banyan tree which grows laying down branches as trunks and lives for centuries. It is comparable to our lives, the world and to Sat-Cit-Ananda. Enjoy!

An amazing verse, and I would summarize it as a master class for understanding acceptance. Everything is within Sat, Cit and Ananda - the one reality, pure consciousness, and happiness.

Verses 9 and 10 are treated as couplets in the book, as they cover similar ideas. It reinforces that we know there is only one reality. Still the senses will lead us astray from this truth. So how to hold onto this awareness is the question.

Verse 8 is a wonderful verse, and really looks at the question of why we search for greater knowledge. Why not just accept this life, and this world as the totality of everything.

Verse 6 is profoundly beautiful. The ultimate reality is pure consciousness – the real and the unreal, the visible and the invisible, the finite and the infinite are all within the Absolute.

Verse 5 looks at the solution for mans endless suffering and fear.

The verse is looking at the existence of ignorance and how and why removing this can bring an end to suffering and fear.

This verse in summery is saying that whether you look at it from the ancient way of thinking or the modern scientific way - it takes us to the same conclusion and that is that: what is real is only the infinite consciousness.

The second verse of this poem in summary is saying that the “perceived world is unreal” – the perceiving mind is that which makes the world real.
