Peace comes in knowing that God is in charge of all things at all times and in every situation. He is the undisputed Boss of the Universe!
Whatever we face...no matter what happens...we need to be faithful to God, do the right thing, and trust God to take care of us.
We can trust our future to God: the ruler and revealer of mysteries, who has a plan and controls the future.
As people of God, we are to be committed, courageous, and willing to make a difference by serving wherever God has placed us.
The Philippians and all Jesus followers are to stand firm by pursuing peace, joy, gentleness, trust, prayer and right thinking – matters that Paul has taught and modeled.
The Philippians are to follow Paul in rejoicing by trusting in Christ alone as their complete righteousness. We trust in the sufficiency of Christ’s redemption so we can live as citizens of heaven.
Paul celebrates with joy his connection with the church in Philippi. We can celebrate with joy, thanksgiving and prayers to the community of God’s family.
Main truth: God breathes life into our desolate landscapes. He is the resurrection, and we are to speak life in faith.
When we face a life-altering decision, we can trust God’s character, His commands, and His covenant promises.
Main Truth: Just as Jesus saved Barabbas by substituting Himself for Barabbas, Jesus saves us by substituting Himself for us.
Timeless Truth: God is faithful to His promises; He is always present; He is working all things for good.
God is always at work all the time in and through the unexpected, and His timing is always perfect.
When God calls us into difficult situations, we can trust Him to guide and provide. sonic
The second woman in Jesus' genealogy is Ruth, a Moabite widow who forsakes her home and family of origin and resettles in Bethlehem.
Like Israel, we should have confidence in Yahweh and no illusions about ourselves. Without the mediation of Jesus, we would be on the same brink of destruction on which Israel found herself.

God’s people look different—do you?
- What “illusions” about ourselves do we carry as modern believers that prevent us from recognizing our deep need for Jesus?
- Which of the five “prescriptions” for success is the easiest for you to swallow? Which is the hardest?

The whole system (including Jesus’ upgrades in the Sermon on the Mount) is set up for human failure—the law was (is) powerless to save. It has always been the grace of God, reaching out to the brokenness of humanity that has set the relationship right.

God was setting up a physical kingdom on earth and populating it with tenants whom he called up and rescued from the hand of evil in Egypt. They were moving into a land owned by God and they needed to understand the stipulations for their occupancy. Really, they were roommates, co-inhabitants of God’s land
As the Israelites prepare to enter the promised land, Moses charges them with four critical tasks:
- Don’t keep doing all the dumb stuff your parents did…
- Their behavior was linked to the reputation of their God
- Do not be enticed by the cheap and attractive alternatives
- The evil of idolatry must be rooted out, not just nipped in the bud.
It’s been forty years since the Israelites left Egypt. That generation has passed away and now Moses recounts the “how we got to be where we are” to their children and challenges the people to move forward in obedience.
Deuteronomy – second law; but really more of a renewal and reinforcement of the covenant Establishes Boundaries: Geographical, historical, spiritual, and moral—God gives the people THE SPECIFIC WAY to live in COVENANT RELATIONSHIP with Him
Why Deuteronomy? 1. They probably felt that the covenant wasn’t really their covenant. 2. There were questions that needed to be addressed. 3. God desired His people be a model for the nations.
Summary: Deuteronomy establishes the covenant to a new generation of Israelites and teaches them how to live in a theocracy.

REMEMBER: God can do again what you have seen him do before—He initiates and He directs—YOU NEED TO OBEY. When the Israelistes did things God’s way, they had success; when they tried to do things their own way, spurning the covenant and their relationship with God, they were miserable failures.

God did not beam His worshippers directly to His holy mountain (even for the purpose of worship), He walked beside them as they struggled through the rugged places and difficult terrains of life. He will do the same for you!

If we are willing to submit, God can bring blessings in the midst of our struggles and brokenness.
Jacob's encounter with God results in three blessings: 1. A new relationship 2. A new name 3. A new way of walking
The transfiguration gives us something to hold onto when we struggle in our faith and reminds us that this world is not our final home.
God is looking for people who are all in; does this describe you?
- God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things! What do you find most compelling about the ministry of Elisha?
- We are called to know and grow in Jesus. a. Do you know Jesus as your Savior? b. Are you actively making him Lord of your life (growing)? How are you doing this?
- In the power of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, what “ships” do you need to burn to destroy sacred individualism and foster true worship of Yahweh?
Ask not why the enemies of God got what they deserved. Ask why we aren’t getting what we deserve.

When God says it, you can believe it! God made a not of negative promises in Kings, but the Bible is rife with positive promises as well! a. What are some of your favorite promises of God? b. How have you seen these promises come to fruition in your own life?

The kings of Israel messed up a lot, but God showered them with mercy and chances to repent. a. Have you ever experienced God’s mercy in a really notable way? b. How has this mercy changed your life?

God sometimes uses imperfect, very ungodly, people to carry out his will or his justice. a. Why do you think God does this? b. Can you think of other ungodly people God used/is using to carry out his will or his justice?
God rarely hollers to get our attention; therefore, we need to stop talking, sop moving, and start listening to his still, small voice if we really want to know his direction for our lives.
The worship of self and other counterfeit gods is the gateway to full blown apostasy. When self-fulfillment becomes the chief goal, God is pushed out of the picture and the kingdom crumbles.

As good leadership is critical to the direction of the nation, so good leadership is critical to our homes, our workplaces, and our churches/ministries. If you want to see change, it begins with you! a. How does “good leadership” look in your situation? b. If you are able, are you taking a leadership role? c. If you are not able, are you actively praying for those who are in leadership?

The apostasy began when the kings turned their focus from God to themselves. a. Where do you see the rumblings of comfort and convenience beginning to shake the foundations of your faith? b. What can you do to extinguish these small fires before they set everything ablaze?
God created us to live in covenant (read obedient) relationship with him; the Biblical recipe for happiness and meaning is to know God and to live in the transforming power of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Sacred Individualism not only ran rampant in Israel, it runs rampant in our lives, the lives of our families, our churches, our communities, our nation, and our world as well. Billions and billions of people, whether they call themselves Christians or not, live as though they are their own gods.
While we don’t set up idols, offer sacrifices, and bow to them, in we do worship several counterfeit gods: success, stuff, satisfaction, security, significance – we are Sacred Individualists.
If you want to see a difference in your friends, your family, your co-workers, your church, and ultimately your world, you must realize that difference begins with you. When you de-establish your co-regency with God and abdicate your throne, you can begin to build his kingdom in all those places.
We are called to receive God’s forgiveness and extend it to others. Join us as we discuss challenges and misunderstandings regarding this concept, and focus on true Godly forgiveness.
Since God is always abounding in love and faithfulness, we can be confident that He is near and hears, and is helping us, even when our circumstances are confusing.
This week we look at God as The Chronologist, the one who orders events in time; and study the challenging ending of Exodus 34:6-7 in light of this truth and in full context.

We are called to forgive others.
- Forgiveness is not a feeling, it is an act of the will, to call on God to change our hearts.
- Forgiveness is not forgetting. Forgetting is a passive process that takes time. Forgiving is an active process that involves a conscious choice. Isaiah 43:25.
- Forgiveness is not excusing. Ken Sande’s quote, “Forgiveness is the opposite of excusing. The very fact that forgiveness is needed and granted indicates that what someone did was wrong and inexcusable."
We need to recognize our need for the Lord and long to deepen our relationship with Him.
We take a look at what parables are, how to understand them, and ask what practical steps we can take to apply the truths we learn from them to our lives.
The gates of heaven swing open wide only for those wearing the proper wedding garments—the white robe of righteousness gifted to each believer by the king himself.
When challenges come into our lives, we can experience hope, knowing that Jesus walks the Emmaus roads of life with us.
Erin McDowell looks at Jesus and "The Morning Star." We learn we are not living in Eden, we are led by the Spirit, and we are to be light in this darkness until Jesus takes away the darkness.
In the book of Luke, we see Jesus cure not only the leper, but also a paralytic man and call a sinner to follow him. All for the higher purpose of revealing His authority and power to heal not only physically but spiritually as well. He indeed is the Great Physician!! What is significant about Jesus calling himself the "chief cornerstone"? Benthany Swanstrom talks about the importance and function of cornerstones and ways in which Jesus is our cornerstone.
Lori Jones talkes about six promises about Easter, three taht were fulfilled in the events leading up to Jesus' death and three that we can hold on to today!
Our world has changed because of the blurring of the lines between right and wrong, biblical illiteracy and the spread of secular humanism. It is easy to get discouraged as we look at the world around us. But Jesus tells us as believers, to not let our hearts be troubled but TRUST IN HIM!
Pain and suffering often hits us suddenly and expectantly as we are going through everyday life. God sees your pain and loves you way too much to let you walk through it alone.
Temptation is a part of life. We live in a world that is brimming with opportunities to stray from the truth of God’s word. It is one of the great weapons Satan uses against the Christian. But we can praise God because He is faithful and trustworthy to provide a way to escape temptation!
Can we still praise God when we fail or sin against him? Many times we carry around garbage bags of regrets, failures and sin. Join us as we look at the disciple Peter who failed Jesus in his darkest hours and denied he knew Jesus three times. It is not always easy to praise God in the circumstances of life. But if we truly understand who Jesus is, what he did and that he saved us from spiritual death we can come to no other conclusion than, “he is always worthy of our praise.” Join us today as we study scripture from the book of Revelation and grasp how truly worthy he is of our praise.

The apostle John had heard about some problems caused by a church leader named Diotrephes. Diotrephes was misusing his power and refused to welcome missionaries sent by John. To make matters worse, he saw to it that others who didn’t follow his example were thrown out of the church. This letter was written to confront his behavior and to encourage others within the church.
Paul gives us four commands in light of our great salvation: 1) Set our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to us; 2) Don’t be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance; 3) Conduct yourselves with reverent fear; 4) Love earnestly.
In our second week of the series, “Big Truths from Small Books” we will take a conceptual look at the book of Micah and ask the question: What happens when idols are “good?” We’ll talk about the problem, the oppressor(s) and end with a focus on the ultimate liberator.
