Martin Rogers is the author of a new book Cricket in the Genes: George Bailey which is unveiled tonight at Blundstone Arena.

Tassie cricket legend George Bailey, his father John Bailey and Martin helped tell the 140 year story which is turning pages ... all 264 of them .

Bailey family history links the Tasmania, Hobart Hurricanes and former Australian one-day and T20 skipper to his great-great-grandfather George Herbert Bailey, a member of the first Australian team to tour England in 1878.

An even earlier historical connection is GHB’s father-in-law George Gibson MP, who played in the first first-class match in Australia in 1851.

The family tree is littered with interesting ancestors, from First Fleet convicts to State Premiers, military and naval men, pastoralists and legal and business high fliers, missionaries and churchmen, with origins from England, Scotland, mainland Europe and even Sri Lanka, where GHB’s father Canon Brooke Bailey was a pioneer of early cricket on the island.

Triple M's Marls spoke with Martin about how the book came about.
