Did you know we're in the middle of a global war? We're in 2 Timothy today reminding ourselves that our God has already equipped us with the armor and winning strategy to fight our spiritual battles. He's already won the war, so our job as soldiers is to choose the winning side. Jesus' sacrifice extends an eternal invitation of victory. Will you take it?

God calls us to focus on that which is higher. Higher than our troubles, our finances, our jobs, and any other things we seem to distract ourselves with and idolize. 1 Peter reminds us that we have an inheritance that doesn't perish or fade when we emulate the holiness of Jesus Christ. So who is God and why must we be like him?

What do we do when distractions, finances, relationship woes, enemies, anger, rage, and fear attack us all at once? Galatians 5 reminds us of the importance of walking by the Spirit, which bears the fruit of love, joy, kindness, and forbearance. How do we walk with the Spirit when Satan seems to keep us off our feet? We find the answer on our knees.
God heals us physically, but God's greatest gift is spiritual health. Because of his son, we have all gained spiritual healing through the forgiveness and cleansing of our sins. The wager for sin is death, but we have life in Jesus Christ. This is important to remember, especially today, when illness and disease are rampant.

Easter is a time when we read and sing about Jesus' death and resurrection, but why don't we reflect on the weight Jesus felt when he was strung on the cross? He cries out to his father "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?". Why did Jesus, the one who warned and prophesied that this would happen, suddenly feel abandoned and forsaken? The answer has to do with his love for you.

It's so difficult to be motivated in this time. We can feel helpless, small, insignificant, and unfocused. What does God want us to know about times of darkness? He promises to be the light that shines in our bleakest moments. This was an urgent word from Him. I got a bit excited, but it's only because I know that he always brings hope and peace in the middle of the storm. Patience is key.
In this time of 'safer-at-home' orders, what about those who aren't truly 'safer'? God is committed to being our refuge in times of trouble. We can find safety and comfort in him as we meditate on Psalms 71 and learn to praise him in the middle of our trials.
