Big Idea: Christ’s death on the cross is the central event in all of history and He calls us, His friends, to remember Him.
Three events:
Big Idea: The value of the object of our worship is seen in the value of what we offer the object of our worship.
Outline:
Mary brings her valuable offering
The audience devalues Mary’s offering
Jesus highly values Mary’s offering
Big Idea: The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ declares His sovereignty over all things.
Three truths:
Big Idea: The Saviour who faces the storm WITH us is sovereign over any storm we face.
Outline:
Big Idea: An attitude of thankfulness protects us from sin, and points us and others to the Saviour.
Big Idea:
The words of our mouths reveal the attitude of our hearts toward God’s sovereignty in our lives.
Five ways we can use our words constructively:
Big Idea: Wisdom is found in the work of guarding your heart so that it will be a source of life, rather than death.
Subheadings:
Big Idea:
Trust in God involves your whole person - heart, head and hands - and is founded on the unchangeable character of God.
Headings:
Trust in God is a heart attitude.
Trust in God is a mindset.
Trust in God involves action.
Trust in God is tested in hard times.
Big Idea: True wisdom is found in God, involves application to our lives and reaps lasting rewards.
Breakdown:
A false spiritual leader wants to be served by people and seeks his own glory; a true spiritual leader seeks to serve people and glorify the Saviour.
Jesus is the superior sacrifice for sin because He accomplishes in perfection what the old sacrifices only accomplished in part.
In the sermon, we consider:
Jesus Christ is the superior sacrifice because:
Big Idea: Jesus’ identity as David’s heir and David’s Lord means He has authority to demand our complete allegiance.
Three points:
We will all die and we will all be resurrected; some to a second life and some to a second death.
A preview of the next few chapters in Matthew as Jesus enters the city of Jerusalem. Sunday service from January 9 2022.

A Desperate Problem
A Determined Persistence and
A Divine Person
and we learn that our spiritual blindness requires Jesus to heal us; our spiritual healing requires us to follow Him.
Jesus' suffering was planned, predicted and proportionate so that the penalty of sin might be paid.
Jesus teaches that the grace of God is generously given, not as a reward for our efforts, but as a reflection of His character. We see that the graceo of God generously seeks, generously honours, and generously gives.
What is the biblical process that Jesus describes for dealing with sin in the family of God?
What are some practical steps we can take to overcome temptation and live holy lives for God's glory?
Be Immersed in God's Word
Take Thoughts Captive
Armour Up
Spend Time In Prayer
Flee Lust
Abide In Christ
We'll be looking at three points:
Jesus says the disciples have little faith, and need faith like a mustard seed. How much faith is enough?
Jesus warns His disciples, and us, about the danger of refusing or rejecting the evidence that Jesus is who He says He is.
Jesus, along with His disciples, feeds a crowd likely over 20000 people with 5 small barley loaves and 2 fish. What can we learn about labouring in God's Kingdom as disciples today from this account?
What can we learn from the life, death, and legacy of John the Baptist? In this message, we look at his message, loyalty, and humility.
The final verses of Matthew 13 clearly delineate the two responses to Jesus' teaching about the kingdom; obedience by the disciples and rejection by the people. After presenting the several parables about the kingdom of heaven in Matthew 13, Jesus asks The Question, then gives The Commission to His disciples. Finally the Bible gives The Caution in detailing the rejection by the people of Jesus' hometown of Nazareth.
Jesus teaching about His Kingdom again using an agricultural image.
1) There is a battle happening.
2) Jesus is in control. He has won the battle.
3) Jesus promises great things for His people.
The parable of the sower was given to the disciples as a way to contrast how God's word is received by the world. Some don't believe. Others believe but cannot pesevere through trial and persecution. Others believe but are drawn away by the cares of the world. And yet, others believe, persevere, forsake the world, and bear fruit for Jesus' Kingdom.

What is the meaning of the Lord's Supper? Why is it important? What is it for? How does it bless us?
We, the church, as a single unit, are God's missionary. Just like Eve, we act as witness, bride, and body of the second Adam, Jesus.
This mission started in the garden, was foreshadowed in the OT by the various acts of sending, was realized in the person of Jesus, and was assigned to His bride, the Church.
Short two-part message on ecclesiology. 1 Peter 2:4-10 teaches us that we are living stones in the temple we call God's people. We are His temple and His tabernacle; in us, His Spirit dwells.
What can we learn from the list of names of the apostles? Why does it matter that they were ordinary men? What were they like as disciples? What does it mean to be an apostle?
In today’s passage, we will learn more about this King: who He is, the power He commands and the lessons He has for His disciples -- including those of us who are His disciples today.
Jesus leads us in and through storms. Jesus is faithful to correct our hearts and take us where we need to go. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Continuing in our series on the Gospel of Matthew
We are coming to the close of the Sermon on the Mount. A couple of weeks ago, we looked at the fact that Jesus wraps up this important teaching by contrasting sets of two opposites. We’ve looked at two gates, two paths, two destinations, two groups travelling. We’ve discussed two trees, with two kinds of fruit, and how to identify false teachers, the bad trees, by the bad fruit they produce. Next week, Chris will close off the Sermon on the Mount by contrasting two builders building on two different foundations.
Today, we will also be considering two contrasting sets; we will be looking at two different groups on the day of judgment. It is important to keep in mind that verses 13-29 are really a continuum, rather than four isolated segments; they are all interconnected and flow together. So it is essential that you keep the main pictures — the two gates, narrow and wide, the two ways, hard and easy, the two destinations, destruction and life, and the two groups, the many and the few — that you keep the main pictures clearly at the forefront of your mind as we look at each of these following portions.
