Hardware options on the horizon include persistent memory, FPGAs and networked storage). At the operating system level, she's tracking asynchronous IO support in Linux via the io_uring library. Java performance continues to become more predictable with the Z Garbage Collector (ZGC), which is already available as an experimental option in Java 12.
