THE LITTLE BLACK BOX mix is a strange idea I thought of in my head, I had imagined a black box loaded with assorted sound elements crammed into this square space trying to find a way out. I imagined each sound element to be instruments (percussion instruments, bass, drum tracks, melodys, rhythms, synths, voices, effects, chords, had a unique purpose to complete before gradually being released. The mission for each element was to find its significant other, no matter how different or incapable they may appear. With this idea in mind, I compiled a wide range of music raging from disco, tribal rhythms, funky bass lines, chunky beats, trippy soundscapes, thumping drums, razor-sharp hi-hats, climaxing vocals, and laser-sharp synth elements. After selecting the perfect element collection, I am satisfied with how this mix came together. I hope this Little Black Box of assorted sound elements makes you happy. It is always a pleasure to have creative natives from Detroit and with Derrick Thompson AkA DRIVETRAIN with us for the collective live stream program. Drivetrain, Derrick Thompson entered into the musical fray aged eight, while taking drum lessons at school. Amazed at the notion of being able to make music by beating on things without harassment from a teacher was something that kept him pursuing music. Aged 13, Thompson acquired his first bass guitar. He spent countless hours mastering the instrument. His early influences were Stanley Clarke and Louis Johnson.

Two years later, Thompson jumped to the Stratocaster guitar. Shortly thereafter, he found himself playing on stage in rock bands. At the same time, the buzz on electronic music had started in Detroit. Thompson liked the idea of being able to be his own one man band. He invested in synthesizers, samplers, and recording studio hardware, and also purchased a set of turntables and a mixer. He then began DJing at parties, weddings and soon, clubs.

By this time, Thompson's musical direction was clear. He went solo and established his own record label in 1990, Soiree Records, mainly focussing on deep house. In the following years, Thompson expanded his horizons by releasing several records on European labels such as Plink Plonk, Basic Beat, Mr. C's End Recordings, Kontraband, Slip 'N' Slide, and many others. In 1997 he launched Xplor Music, a Detroit-techno oriented label.

Soiree Records International has not only provided an outlet for Thompson to release his own material, but has also become a musical launch pad for artists throughout the globe. The worldwide vinyl and digital distribution of Soiree Records International has earned Thompson an abundant amount of respect and notoriety in the industry.

Thompson expanded his growing influences even further. With an endless repertoire of quality and groundbreaking tracks, there is a continuous demand for Thompson from both major and independent labels around the world.

Our Amsterdam based DJ & producer Claire Granlund consumes frequencies from a wide plethora of genres, rhythms and sounds. Her club sets centre around dub, break beats, acid and techno sound. She sequences records in her own deviating and adventurous flow referring to it as "dark scents with no fixed destination". Mozer is a Croatian DJ and promoter based in Zagreb. Mozer plays a fusion of electronic music characterized by multi-layered, depth, high dynamics and perfect a sense of mix. In his sets, he likes to emphasize the atmosphere, emotions and occasionally throw out listeners from the comfort zone, all to create a set that has its own unique story and value. He also run the event series “tanzen” in Zagreb. Jan Kincl is a Zagreb-born house and techno dj, producer, live act performer, radio host and a party promoter. Through almost two decades in all this, it’s hard to scratch the surface of electronic music in Croatia without coming across something he’s been involved with. Raised by the music of Motor City, Jan’s sound is a combination of house and techno, unmistakably rooted in the more organic and soulful side of it. In recent years, Jan’s forays into jazz became deeper, and in 2016 resulted in a collaboration with a French keyboard player Regis Kattie. The pair quickly became one of the most prominent regional acts and their debut album, a deeply jazz-informed house record ’In Plain Sight’ got described as “one of the most significant pieces of regional contemporary dance music”; with Laurent Garnier, Jazzanova, Volcov, Tony Humphries, Lefto, Claude Young and Kai Alce amongst its supporters.

Bio on the podcast set: This set consists mostly out of Avantgardistic tracks that I usually have a hard time fitting into my club DJ sets, but definitely need to be heard. It’s a compilation of strange sounds that explore a wide range of adventurous music genres. I could easily say Dub is an overarching theme in this set, which is dominating, but very pleasing. As we are not able to physically travel we feel the need to explore and experience life through other external things like music, perhaps now more than ever.

The duo sends – without hesitation – everyone – once the beat drops out to come back at full tilt to find its way into your chest – on a tremendous sound trip shattering every wishful thinking and as a logical consequence piercing marrow and bone to dance.

Häppy’s music can’t be narrowed down to a genre or pattern – it bends the bow from deephouse to techno and burns into the memory of everyone listening to it. However, one thing that his music does with us we know for sure: letting our Endorphins dance while we get goosebumps all our bodies.

It is my pleasure to have on the program another female, whom I found to be a warm, funny, and witty young lady, Amsterdam based DJ & producer Claire Granlund. She consumes frequencies from a wide plethora of genres, rhythms and sounds. Bio: Choosing amongst numerous highlights from a 20+ years spanning career of Ivan Komlinović and simply listing them here would without a doubt make a compelling reading. However, it seems that the path this Zagreb-born techno DJ, sound engineer, mastering engineer and producer undertook was leading to the big moment he’s living at present time.

Eclectic but techno-focused DJ sets have made him a household name on numerous festivals and parties across the region. Also, more than 15 vinyl releases for prestigious labels under his belt imply that studio is also his natural habitat.

The idea of taking a few pieces from his hardware-based studio and taking them for a ride was present for a while, but only as a concept. Until Moondance Festival 2015, to be precise. Booking for a debut live performance on the main night of the festival and sharing the stage with Octave One and The Analogue Cops was based on no more than a blind trust only a good friend can have.

To cut the long story short, that particular night was all it took to realize that live performance is the most direct way of presenting your music. There’s not a lot in between you and the audience, just a few machines and what exactly can you do with them in the moment.

A successful string of subsequent live dates all over the region only strengthened the fact that Ivan’s as comfortable with his machines as when they’re in the studio, but judging by the interest coming from all sides it looks like they’re gonna be spending a lot more time on the stage.

For me Dj Spider is a prime example of an artist that thrives on defying the law of gravity by expressing exactly what matters to him most. When I met him 3 years ago at Freerotation Festival in Wales http://www.freerotation.com, my first impression was that he is a genuine and passionate individual deeply routed in the world of music. Till this day I am impressed with his crafty focus on the darker side of sound in combination with soul, shedding light on his politic views also whats going on in our city streets. I find this to be and important art form to be able to vindicate his message to the world.

When did you start djing? late 1993. first mix tapes were out in 1994.

What Artists is an inspiration to you? It is extremely difficult to answer that question. After 20 years of DJing and searching for my own sound I had at least 20 artists that had strong impact to my musical and technical evolution. In general I always had special place for non predictable artists with "balls" to experiment and attitude. My roll models were few local talents, but probably Derrick May was a DJ who's set in 1996 made me re think about what I am doing, and open few extra channels in my head. After hearing Derrick, I never played same way.

As a DJ, I probably learned how to think about music from underground icons such as laurent garnier, Dj Bone, Jeff Mills, Derrick May, but as a producer and writer, my influences go beyond boundaries of electronic music. Music producers I admire can be anyone who's approach to writing, sound designing and producing I find original. I am just crazy about stripped down music without any intention to be liked, but still addictive, and makes you want to hear some more..

Are you producing and Planned releases? I am producing music constantly. No plans, releases are for me just a good moment between artists work and label. I have 1 upcoming release for local Decoded label, and some finished tracks I would prefer to have released on vinyl labels, for obvious reason; It is the only way I could also play my music...You see, I have pretty unique way of thinking about my own music production; I just play and have great time with my instruments, every second available. I really have no big expectations from my music production, but good things just happen when right publishers feel and detect elements of art and science in my work.

Favorite label? It would probably be 430 West, Metroplex or Underground Resistance, butI love all Chronicle releases, most of 50 Weapons releases, Token, Acid Worx, Vakum, M Plant, MFD, Burek, Dekmantel, TTT, R-Zone....

What do you think about the Zagreb Underground Club Scene? Zagreb is extremely active at the moment. Lots of independent underground crews doing there best to keep vibe alive and to educate new generations. There are 3-4 underground clubs in Zagreb, and few really interesting crews that keep spirit Alive.

What can the Croatian club & event providers do better for underground dance music as a culture in the region? First off they need to do lots of research to get an objective picture of how many regular party goers are out there. Then, they need to educate, themselves and there target crowd about the music presenting. Today, lots of active promotors organizations don't have a clue about music and culture they are only in it for the money. As a result we have empty or just bad partys...Lucky for us, most of the active promotors really know what they are doing and are prepared to learn and adapt...

What can your fans expect to hear in your Dj sets? My fans can always expect real underground vibe. Sometimes very unpredictable. I love deep, repetitive hypnotic moments in clubs, so I guess it is what I tend to deliver to crowd.

What is your primary source to play music (vinyl,digital,USB, cd)? Vinyl. I had 3 years of digital DJing period, but I just did not enjoyed..

Sounds supreme is a platform on Pulse Radio that allows me to basically extend the music boundaries of a normal show that may just focus on one genre & also enables me to get producers who might not necessarily get the opportunity to get their music on mainstream stations to play out on the sounds supreme show. its also about showcasing new & unreleased music from wider section of music that is available and of course done with a soulful underlining.

1. What can Munich club & event providers do better for dance music as a culture in the region?

Dance culture will be what it is here, disco orientated origins determine that but I guess a few things are starting appear from month to month but I guess just do something unexpected & captivating in other genres would be a good start.

Pretty young. I started getting into djing when I was about 14 years old.

Derrick May has been an inspiration to me in many different ways, not only musically. Not all of them are suitable for minors. Haha!

Cutting edge electronic music that comes from the heart.

I am always on the hunt for new and exciting music and do not have one favorite label.

Berghain in Berlin.

1. What can we expect to hear in your dj set?

I've recorded this mix at a gig in Helsinki last January. It captures the early morning vibe. The club was a pitch-black, mid-sized room with a bumping sound system and the crowd was going for it. I got to play lots of tracks I don't always get to play out. It was great fun morphing sounds from deep to energetic to hedonistic and back.

I think Munich has a very healthy scene and I enjoy myself going out clubbing here. Many great domestic as well as international artists are playing in town every weekend. On the down side it is maybe a bit to serious and political at times.

1. Born and raised? I was born and raised in Penzberg a small city south of Munich.

2. When did you start djing? I started djing at 15 years ago in our youth hostel as well promoting my own parties. I can never my first experience vinyl and turntables, learn to beat match, harmonize the tracks together and to discover why this art drives me crazy.

3. Do you have another profession? Yes I am Process manager for SAP automotive business processes - I am a babbitt ;-) I love my job and as well music and djing. Thats my escape from the daily routine.

4. What Artist is an inspiration to you? Every artist inspires me because each artist has his own way to mix and present his music. If I had to name one than Robert Dietz. I love his productions, his dj sets and the way he mix the tracks.

5. List three of your Favorite labels? Thats really a task! There are so much good labels. If I have to name three than Fathers and Sons, Fuse and Dissonant.

6. Are you producing or any planned releases? Currently I produce a lot. With every session the skills are growing. Releases aren´t planned yet. Hopefully the right moment will come.

7. Favorite club you have played? It was in March 2010 at an Elektro keller Event in an old Boiler room in north Munich. It was a really great vibe with very special people in an extraordinary location with a huge sound system!

8. Do you think the Munich Underground Club Scene is vibrant? Yes of course. From my point of view Munich has a scene with two different characters. On one side is the scene with styled clubs well equipped, they offer fresh interesting bookings and a good monthly program. On the other side there are a lot of promoters that make events in different venues or off-locations with fresh talented local DJ´s and Artists. It´s never be boring.

9. What can your fans expect to hear in your Dj sets? I try to pic the right track for the moments, create a journey through different genres but always with that certain something :)

10. What is your primary source to play music (vinyl,digital,USB, cd)? It depends, actually Traktor with timecode. If the gig is just one hour than I choose USB with Rekord Box.
