I was interviewed on the Coronacast podcast by Josh VanKooten. Here is his summary:

"In this episode, I speak with DonorSee Charity’s Founder and CEO Gret Glyer to discuss the impact that government lockdowns have had on the impoverished population of Africa. Gret explains why the poorest class of people in Africa, who live on less than $3 a day, have been severely impacted by the lockdowns and why they need them lifted now. Gret also explains how he became so passionate about this issue and why it led him to start his charity DonorSee."

At age 12, Jacob Aluong found himself running away from an army that was trying to kill him. His family hid in a dense forest but many of them didn’t make it.

He told me, “all my life, all I have known is war. I just want peace.”

Jacob is here in America for the first time to attend a peace conference in D.C. I sat down with him and a couple cameras to record his story.

I am joined today by a mystery guest. Our goal for this episode was to "continue" the discussion on inequality and I believe we made some important progress. Here are a few of the topics we touched on:

  • Is "inequality" the right issue to focus on?
  • Strategically renaming the "great moral issue" of our time.
  • Why Shane Claiborne is worth listening to.
  • The mysterious absence of certain topics in church.

This episode is worth listening to on it's own, but you may get more out of it if you first listen to my discussion on inequality with Shane Claiborne: Episode 21.

One last thing. If you watched the video, you may have noticed that I am wearing a black DonorSee hat. For the month of January, anyone who joins DonorSee's monthly giving program will get a free hat. Thanks for your consideration. :-)

This episode comes from the video that inspired my TEDx Talk: How to wake up tomorrow morning like a billionaire. It shares a few brief but shocking numbers about global wealth disparity. The summary is that you are probably close to 100x wealthier than half the planet (after accounting for cost of living).

As always, I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. In reality, I want you to feel great! It's an awesome opportunity to be blessed with so much and to be put in such a great position to help others.

In this episode I interview, Tanzanian resident and DonorSee Storyteller, Georgina Hill.

Let's put it this way...not ALL orphanages are bad. But you would be shocked to find out just how few are good. Georgina does an excellent job explaining, in detail and backed up by data, the level of catastrophe that the age of the orphanage has brought us.

This is a great episode to share with your friends...especially the next time they say they are supporting an orphanage overseas. This should help you discern when to support and when to seek a better solution (which Georgina offers in this interview).

This is an excerpt from a recent conversation I had on The System Is Down Podcast. You can find a link to the full conversation here: tsidpod.com/66-soft-america-w-gret-glyer/

...and yes, we talked about spending money on my upcoming wedding.

More about my episode with Dan:

"The question of the day is… How much is enough? Is there a point where you have too much or should feel bad for having more posessions in one room of your house than many people will ever own in their lifetime? Let me know.

Today’s episode is my conversation with repeat offender Gret Glyer, the CEO and creator of one of my favorite companies, DonorSee. DonorSee is something that has honestly impacted my life in a great way and helped me to become a better and more charitable human being.

Gret’s story is a very important one. If you want the full rundown of what DonorSee is and how it came to being, go WAY back to the beginning of this show and check out episode 8, “Gret Glyer Saves the World”.

This time we dug more into the state of cushy America and Gret’s thoughts on our arguments over one American priveledge vs another, when is enough enough, what sets DonorSee apart from the charity herd and much more."

We also talk about the 6 years he spent serving in the Dominican Republic, we talk about the difficulty of serving the poor, and we question our own motivation when attempting to help others. Here are a few things a higher cost of living might get you access to:

  1. Better public education
  2. Lower crime rates
  3. Superior law enforcement
  4. Higher paying jobs
  5. Jobs with more upward mobility
  6. Highly educated neighbors
  7. Stable government
  8. Reliable utilities (internet, electricity, water etc.)
  9. Well stocked grocery and retail stores

Complaining about a higher cost of living is often complaining about access to a massive amount of opportunity. The reason that the cost of living is so much lower in sub-saharan Africa is because the residents there rarely get access to the 9 things on that list.
