James says, when we face trials than challenge our conduct and choices, we are not to say that "God is tempting me". But this is a strange statement that few people ever say. Paul attempts to explain this statement in 21st century language.
There is a difference between a trial and a test. A trial is something that happens due to life's circumstances, but a test is something that is enacted on us by someone. But who? Who is responsible for the testing of our character and moral choices in the midst of a trial?

Jesus preached to move people to repentance. He preached to reveal himself and get people to change their thinking about him from "just another prophet" to grasping that he is the messiah. He wanted to move people to the point that they would drop everything and "come and follow me".
The most important and impactful part of Christ revival in Galilee was his preaching and teaching. He spoke with such an authority that people were moved and stirred. We need our preaching, and our ears, to be anointed so we might see this kind of authority in the preaching of today.
We are a web of conflicting desires. Some good, some bad, and some good and bad. When our desire, our passion, for Jesus is burning bright it is easy to keep our desires in order. But when our passion for Jesus is cool we become confused and out of sorts. Come Lord Jesus and revive us!

Jesus was very in tune to the emotions of others. And because of this he was able to get into the heart of people. We are called, as we become more in tune with our own emotions, to also become in tune with the emotions of others.
We often talk about "giving someone our heart". But what do we mean by this? What does God mean when he calls us to love him with our whole heart, mind, and strength?
Should we control them? And how do we if we feel they are out of control? Emotions have a good and a bad side to them and we will learn how to make sure they are in order.
How much power do your emotions have over your mind and thoughts. While our emotions are important to interpreting the world and our responses to it we can’t let them determine our thinking. That's the work of the Spirit.
We are a mix of emotions. This can be hard to deal with at times but the good news is that even Jesus experienced the complexity of emotions.
Emotions are a powerful tool to motivate us and help us rise up. If our emotions are stunted then we might be in danger of being unmotivated and stuck. Emotions also play an intricate part in our worship of God.
We were created as emotional beings for a number of reasons. In this podcast Pastor Paul looks at two reasons God gave us emotions. Emotions help us love the things we treasure properly and they help us connect to those we love.
Did you know that God experiences anger, jealousy, love, sorrow etc. While it is not the same as us [for he doesn’t have a body] our emotions are made in the image of God. Sin has corrupted them but nevertheless our emotions have a redemptive nature to them.

Sometimes we need to remember how others have suffered and stayed strong as a reminder that our sufferings don’t compare. Jesus suffered terribly at the hands of others but because he had a vision for what God was going to accomplish he endured it without complaint. This is our calling also.
There is a vision that God wants to give us that is the biggest vision of all. It is a vision, a revealing of the unseen, that will define you and determine your destiny. It is the vision that enabled the saints to live by faith even as they died martyrs. It is a revealing that we all need more.
We don’t always have time to pray about every situation to “see the unseen”. Sometimes, as we lean on common sense and God’s grace, we can discern the promise rather than see the promise. It’s a good thing to know as we live our busy lives!
Some breakthroughs only come after walking around the problem a few times. The people of Israel knew the walls of Jericho were going to fall but they still had to go around them 13 times before it gave in. Don’t be discouraged when you are promised a victory but still have to deal with the “nitty gritty”.
The works of God’s creation are so superior to our creations. And the sacrifice provided by God is so far greater than any sacrifice we will ever offer. Our good works are exchanged for the handiwork of God in the story of Abraham.
Sometimes we are so fixated on God answering us in a certain way we miss the provision right in front of us. Abraham lifted up his eyes after God got his attention and realized the provision of the ram had been there all along.
The heroes of the faith were not heroes at all. They were ordinary people who felt the rush of God under girding them and lifting them up to places they had never been before. They are examples of the power of God at work in ordinary people.
Those who are on the journey of faith will soon realize that they don’t quite fit in with the values and systems of this world. The nature of the journey of faith is a leaving of the old systems behind and a pursuing the new.
Do you know that one of the promises given to Abraham was not fulfilled in his lifetime. In fact, it took over 400 years before it was accomplished. This is an important lesson for us regarding the timing of God and the fulfilment of our promises.
Our faith is not just to help us access the promises and know God. It is also a testimony to others. It is a quality about us that we would like to transfer to our children, our friends, and those in our world.

Imagine having such a revelation of God and eternity that you don’t even experience death but are taken straight up into heaven. For Enoch, his reward for believing and walking with God was to overcome death. He is a testimony to us all that we also, through faith, will not decay but will be raised to everlasting life.
When you go to a party make sure you bring an appropriate gift. You want to please the host. Abel pleased God with his gift and in doing so demonstrated what it means to walk by faith.
Paul talks about the doctrines of our faith and why we believe them. It’s not primarily because of logic or scientific evidence. We believe in so many mysterious things because our eyes have been opened to the reality of a living God for whom nothing is impossible.
No one believed that Jesus had risen from the dead until they personally met him. We also believe when we met his power and glory. And when we do, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, begins to flow through us.
The different gospel accounts of the resurrection, and who did what, are confusing. Some gospels say one person did one thing and some say another did it. This is what we would expect in a very confusing and unprecedented time. Yet in the end, once things had settled down, sense was made of it all.
At the burial of Jesus there was two different groups of people. Each of them, the women disciples and Joseph of Arimathea, have lessons to teach us about discipleship and following Christ.
Jesus walks to the cross full of truth, light, and love. All those involved in his death are revealed as corrupt, riddled with sin, and wicked. And yet they equally represent all of humanity. The story reveals our deep, deep, need for a saviour.
Pilate is one of the saddest characters in scripture. He knew Jesus was innocent of the charge and was more righteous than the religious leaders. Never, for expediency and convenience, he ignored the inner voice telling him Jesus was “The Truth” and kept the status quo.
Peter struggled with a lack of consistency and impetuousness. He was like sand that shifted too easily but by the fire, that night, he learnt to hate that part of that nature. He began the first steps in becoming a rock.
We can learn a lot from how Jesus prayed in Gethsemane. From his physical posture, to his insistence to pray over and over, to his relationship with his Father. We learn a lot about standing strong in prayer in this passage.
Have you ever fallen asleep at an embarrassing time? The disciples just couldn’t stay awake when they should have been alert. We all need revival in these days to pray and intercede for the world around us.
Jesus was very tempted to “slip into the night” and avoid the cross and troubles. His battle in the garden was a battle of resolve to stand strong and do the right thing.
