We live in a the world where you can be anything. This is an introduction to my story and how I developed the skills and life experience that I possess. I have been down dark paths and beaten roads to find the truer essence of life. I haven't fully learned everything, because lets be honest, nobody does, but I am on a path to know as much as I can. Imani Powell is the Owner of Essence of Ebony, a Natural Hair home for the African Diaspora. She is a Natural Hair Stylists & Coach and has over 10 years of experience specifically in Natural Hair care. She has trained under Master Locticians, Cosmetologists, & Natural Hair Experts. She has styled for weddings, photoshoots & Films. Imani is also the Creator of The Crown Coaching Experience, a virtual and hands-on education training dedicated to helping parents and individuals take care of their own and/or their child’s natural curly hair.
Imani was born and raised in (New) Jersey, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelors in Forensic Science (Biology) & minor in Chemistry and currently resides in Salt Lake City, UT. Imani spent most of her adolescence in a hair salon and has carried over her skills and teachings as a Natural Hair Stylist today. Imani is an artist, a creator, a scientist and an advocate for the Natural Essence of the Black Experience.
Essence of Ebony is the Natural Hair Home for the Natural Men and Women of the African Diaspora. We offer educational coaching services where we teach parents, students and individuals how to style curly hair, understand product knowledge and obtain healthy curly hair. Essence of Ebony also offers Services such as Locs, Braids, Coils, Cornrows and Two Strand twists. Essence of Ebony also recently launched a branch for Natural Hair Products called Amber Reign. Amber Reign is a luxury natural hair care line created by two Black women and is crafted and blessed according to the lunar cycle of each month. We wanted to offer not only a luxury and nutritional experience but a spiritual and high vibrational experience that allows people to be in touch with the earth on a deeper level. Essence of Ebony yearns for Black Men, Women and children to be the best versions of themselves - so It is crucial that we not only provide the means and the service of healthy hair, but educate and assist them on their journey to obtaining and maintaining healthy natural hair.

We must learn to become more vulnerable in the face of depression and anxiety! In this current world we forget that we are allowed to cry, we are allowed to have emotions, and we are allowed to share them with others. Especially men! Feel your feels, be compassionate, and started the trend of therapy. It will all be ok!
On this episode we learn about Jo, their story and how the world shaped them. Honestly I could talk to Jo for hours, but it seems like we already did that. He is aware of spirituality in his own terms and helps others with their own issues at hand. Coming out isn't easy, but knowing you aren't who the world thinks or says you are, is harder. Come listen to a story about someone, a human being, who has dealt with unknowingness and all the other life issues we have to deal with alongside it. You are not alone on this journey, you always have someone who can help in some way.

I get the lucky opportunity to talk to my best friend, Jordan (@chocolategaga) Wilkinson on Juneteenth! He's black, he's gay, and he's a little weird, thats why I love. We discuss his life, his growing up, and how he tried to fit in. We also talk about the Supreme Court, Stonewall, and of course, Black Lives Matter. In this episode, Bri Bri and I dive into a realm of learning from the past and being able to look towards the future. Seeing how the things she held valuable at one time were actually not what she truly wanted. She gives her story and some insight on the industry and how she balances her own spirituality.
In episode 4, I talk to Malarie Reddoor, who is such an amazing being and soul. We use to work together 4 years ago, and she was a big inspiration for me to get back into doing hair. She is also a barber here in Salt Lake City, which means that we are already creating a community of like minded individuals. I love her story and what she represent, and I think you will love this journey we take through her lessons and experiences.

We all have ways that we connect to other souls and lifestyles. Sometimes we find it difficult to talk to other individuals, but in this industry we must learn ways to overcome that. In episode 3 I discuss ideas on how I can relate and connect to new clients and maintain them as returning clients. I also give insight on how to stay connected with those returning clients. What is their value and what is our worth. We must always be mindful of their time and value as much as we value our own worth. Take a step into the atmosphere that I have created with the special people who sit in my chair.
We all have our own stories and lives that we have lived, many of them can be correlated to one another's. This is a simple context into me and where I have landed. My story isn't worse or better than anyone else, its just unique to me. It is not a definition of who I am, yet a simple synopsis of the events that led up to this current prospect of life. I am deeply passionate about being open and vulnerable, and display that through this episode. Please come in with no expectations and no judgement. Love you beautiful inspirers!
