Biblical fellowship goes beyond casual coffee dates. Building real, committed partnerships with God and each other requires the deep community Scripture points to—living transparently, caring for one another, sharing what we have, and standing together through hard times. For that kind of fellowship to grow, PFC needs a culture of goodness and safety where people feel secure enough to be honest and vulnerable with one another.

Do you remember the adrenaline of Sunday School “Sword Drills”? While racing to find an isolated verse can be fun, it often trains us to treat the Bible like a dictionary rather than a living, breathing story. In this week’s continuation of our series, we are learning how to read Scripture through a Christ-centered lens. Let’s move beyond simply getting through the Bible, and practice tools to help get the Bible through us.

In many ways discipleship is the Christian practice that encapsulates all other spiritual disciplines. For example, prayer is a practice within the broader category of discipleship - as is giving, fasting, and Bible reading. However, discipleship is a practice worth pondering in and of itself. To be a disciple is to be a student. To be a disciple is to follow the Messiah. To be a disciple is to look for others who may also become disciples. Are you ready to follow?

This Sunday, we are continuing our "Practices" series by exploring the heart and history behind Communion (the Lord’s Supper). We’ll dive into the biblical context of how the disciples first experienced this meal, look at what the Apostle Paul taught the church in Corinth about Communion, and clear up some common questions about this historical sacrament.

At the end of our gathering, we will slow down and actually partake of Communion together. Whether you've taken the bread and the cup a thousand times or this will be your very first time, the Lord's table is open. There is a seat saved for you!

Evangelism is often associated with fear, pressure, or obligation, but what if it was never meant to be that way? This week, we'll look at Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman in John 4 and discover that the most effective evangelism flows from a life deeply rooted in relationship with Him. As we drink from the Living Water, God's love naturally overflows into the lives of others. Together, we'll explore how prayer, intimacy with Christ, and the other spiritual practices shape us into people who faithfully share the hope of the gospel—not out of obligation, but out of overflow.

Jesus taught that "it is more blessed to give than to receive," but what does that actually look like in our daily lives? Join us as we explore how true biblical stewardship goes far beyond the offering plate. We will look at what it means to generously invest our time, skills, and resources — whether offering a listening ear to a friend, or using our skills to help a neighbor with a project. Come discover how everyday acts of generosity help us transfer our temporary resources into an eternal investment!

The symbol of Christian service is the towel and basin, the instruments Jesus used to wash His disciples' feet. While the leaders of the world jockey for position and power, Jesus sets a different example. Those who wish to be great in the Kingdom of God are first called to be servants. Jesus said, "I did not come to be served, but to serve." Shouldn't it be the same for those who follow Christ as King and Savior?

After Paul wraps up his teaching on the Armor of God, Ephesians ends with a brief personal note from the Apostle. It is four brief verses that could easily be overlooked. But they are actually packed with rich spiritual truths. God calls his church to the “undying love” of Christ.

The Armor of God passage is one of those sections of the Bible that may be so familiar that we can miss some of the most important aspects of Paul's teaching. Here are three helpful things to remember. First, it's GOD'S armor. It's not ours. Second, it is defensive in nature - specifically helping protect us from the attacks of God's spiritual enemy. Third, it is collective and communal. While I have an individual role to play, the armor of God is for the body of Christ. So in a deeper sense, we, all together, put on the full armor of God. Shield wall!

The New Testament teaches us that Jesus - who rightfully possesses all authority and power - laid down his divine rights as God to become a servant. His humility and service extended to the point where he laid down his life on the Cross. This is THE picture of what it means for humans to love one another. Jesus is the Standard. Husbands - love your wives as Christ loved the Church.

When we enter into a relationship with Christ, we become something radically new. There's a new way to be human and it is based on the standard of life set by Jesus. Ephesians 4:17-32 lays out for us a great list of ways we should be living out this new identity... and some behaviors that we should be putting to death.

There’s a Latin phrase stamped on our coins – “E pluribus unum” which means, “out of many, one.” It originally represented the unity of the original 13 colonies. This was also the appeal Paul makes to the believers in Ephesus … that out of their many backgrounds, many cultures, many preferences; that they would be one and preserve the unity of the Spirit. This Sunday, we’ll explore what it looks like to move beyond "loving the idea of unity" and actually start doing the hard but beautiful work of living it out each day in all our relationships.

This week we are exploring the second half of Ephesians 3, discovering how the Holy Spirit empowers us to move past spiritual plateaus and grow together as a faith family. Paul reveals we have an "all-access pass" to God; we can bring our most authentic selves, as His children, into His presence with confidence. By rooting ourselves in the community of believers and practicing spiritual habits, we open our lives to receive Christ’s immeasurable love and the power to accomplish more than we could ever imagine.

When Jesus died, hope died along with him. All His followers went into hiding, thinking it was game over. No one was planning to keep this new Jesus movement going, because, after all, it seemed Jesus wasn’t who he had claimed to be. But then something happened! This Easter Sunday we’ll look at this event that changed everything. It’s a story of a God who truly wants to be with us and because of that, we can depend on Him for/in everything.

This week we will highlight that Christ’s sacrifice destroyed the "dividing wall" between people, transforming former outsiders into fellow citizens and members of God’s own household. This biblical foundation is applied through the framework of Belong, Believe, and Become, emphasizing that a sense of community must come before behavioral change. Ultimately, the "good work" the Church is called to perform is the cycle of inviting others to the table of grace, allowing them to find a sense of belonging as they are built together into a living temple for God.

Martin Lloyd-Jones famously wrote, “The Gospel may be summarized in these two words: ‘But God.’” Pastor Ernest Daniels Jr. elaborates, “Those two words change everything. We were guilty - but God. We were enslaved - but God. We were condemned - but God.” Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But God is so rich in mercy…even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life.” We were dead....BUT GOD!

Unity in the Church and in our relationships requires navigation through tension. Tension has always been part of the story of God’s people. In Acts 15, as the Church grew beyond its original boundaries, cultural and theological tensions arose that threatened to fracture the body of Christ. These moments could have led to division—but instead, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they became catalysts for clarity, strengthening, and mission. Without tension, there is no growth or forward movement. Yet unhealthy tension can damage relationships and hinder God's work. Today, Tim Doering will share about Netzer's work in equipping the Church to capitalize on the God-given tensions across the kingdom. We will also examine our own call to embrace various forms of tension with wisdom, allowing the gospel to transform potential rupture into resilience, unity, and maturity.

The Apostle John begins his Gospel with the poetic statement, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." What is this Word? Christian theology teaches us that the Word of God is several things simultaneously. First, and most foundationally, the Word is Jesus Christ. On a secondary level, as a gift given and proceeding from Christ, the Word of God comes to us in the form of the Scriptures - the Bible. As the Psalmist writes in Psalm 119, this gift is: "sweeter than honey." This week we go back to the basics of the Christian faith to examine the sweetness of the gift of the Holy Bible.

This week we continue to look at God’s eternal story, asking who we are within it and how we must reject false narratives. Scripture reveals that humans are created as God’s image-bearers…meant to reflect His glory and loving rule. But sin distorts that role by replacing God’s story with our own. Through Christ, we are restored to true humanity, called to live lives that reflect God’s light so that others may see Him and glimpse His coming kingdom.

Times of chaos inevitably lead to times of confusion. For the Jewish people, anxiously awaiting the Messiah, the years leading up to the birth of Christ were filled with chaos and therefore, also with much confusion. The first step "out" is prayer. The second step is service. Jesus said in Matthew 20:28, "The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve...and lay his life down as a ransom." In Philippians 2:7 Paul writes about Christ, "He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant." What does it look like for us to learn to serve others like Christ has first served us?

Let's unpack a life-transforming paradox in Jesus’ teaching (Matt. 7:13-14). Jesus says that the spacious life (life that is full of peace, satisfaction, joy and more) is found by actually squeezing through the narrow gate and following Jesus on this narrow path by putting His teachings into practice. The path is difficult, uncomfortable, and even feels constricting but it’s the path that actually leads to a spacious life with God here and now. Who’s up for a hike?

Prayer is rooted in a relationship with a loving, generous Father… not a transaction with a distant force. Jesus invites us to ask, seek, and knock with trust, humility, and persistence, knowing that God gives not just what we want, but what we truly need. When we remove ourselves from Jesus’ throne and pray from a place of dependence, not judgment, we are transformed and drawn deeper into God’s kingdom and character.

To be the judge is to carry the weight of being right—and being just. The throne of authority is no casual seat; it demands power, wisdom, and responsibility, especially when decisions impact others. Yet how often do we climb into that seat ourselves, assuming the role of judge, condemning others? But who is equal to the task? Who is wise enough, just enough, righteous enough to sit on the judgment seat? Is anyone worthy? Praise be to Christ Jesus, the Lamb who is worthy! This week, we will explore the King's words about our judgment, justice, and our tendency to claim a throne that we were never meant to sit on.

The "Triumphal Entry" was the public declaration that Jesus viewed himself as the Messiah, and the promised King of kings. He rode into Jerusalem accepting the title of "Son of David" and the shouts of praise, "Hosanna!" He then entered the temple and called it "My house." Jesus was forcing the people to either crown him or crucify him (and he knew which the religious leaders would choose). With Jesus, there is nothing in between. We must know him as King or do our best to get rid of him.

In this section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tackles two uncomfortable topics. He addresses lust and divorce. In every culture, in every place, throughout all human history men have dehumanized women through lust and misuse of power. The example and teachings of Jesus draw us back to the Garden of Eden, back to God's creative design - male and female God created us in his own likeness and image. Jesus is the Light of the World. This is one of the seven "I Am" statements in the Gospel of John. In John 8, Jesus says, "I am the light of the world." But Jesus came and is the light by which we see and experience the truth. But Jesus also says to his followers, "You are the light of the world." The Mighty One truly does great things and He loves to do them through those who are humble.

The most basic meaning of the biblical word for judge/judgment means to "separate" or "rule over." Jesus says, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" (Mt 7:1). Paul writes, "Who are you to judge someone else's servant?" The idea here is that everyone who is a follower of Jesus is a servant of God. Jesus alone can sit in the judgment seat (separating out wheat and tares and ruling over). Our job is to "live and die for the Lord" (Rom. 14:8). Jesus - the one true Judge and King - will take care of the rest.

You may have heard us talk about it before...but the word "good" is one of the most theologically rich and spiritually significant words in the Bible. It features prominently in crucial passages like Genesis 1-3. It is also a key word in understanding Romans 12. The Apostle Paul says, "Hate what is evil, cling to what is good." This phrase catapults us back to the very beginning of the human story when Adam and Eve were tempted to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

If you've lived any amount of life you have likely been on the receiving end of a "non-apology apology." Someone says to you, "I'm sorry I hurt you...but." Or, "I'M SORRY! Are you happy now?!" I hate fake apologies. Unfortunately, I've probably given them before! If you've been on the receiving end of a classic non-apology from me...let me just say I'm sorry...but you probably deserved it. Ok, just kidding! Hopefully, you have also experienced the power of a true, heartfelt apology accompanied by a change in behavior. This is a good way to think about Biblical confession. To confess is to see Jesus for who He really is, to see our sin for what it is, and to change our behaviors in light of who Jesus is. As we continue in Romans 10, let's take some time to think a little deeper about what it means to confess with our mouths that "Jesus is Lord."

Have you heard the kids use the phrase, “I’m just built different”? Basically, it’s a way of bragging that I, or someone else, is better at something than normal. Sometimes, it's a little too easy to see the Law as the problem. As Paul continues his teaching in Romans 7, he wants to make it abundantly clear that the Law is not the enemy to overcome - sin is the problem. Unfortunately, sin is so pervasive and powerful, that it can even twist the Law (a gift given by God to Israel) into something evil. A hammer is good for pounding nails. A hammer used to pound someone's head is bad. So it goes with the Law. If we remember that the actual enemy is sin, we can recognize that it is the Spirit of Christ, not following the letter of the Law, that conquers the true enemy.

This week are continuing our study in Romans. Chapter 7 is a continuation of answering the question Paul states in chapter 6:15: “What then? And being tied to the Law inhibits us to walk by the Spirit.

A generation or two ago it would be common to hear people ask something along the lines of, "If you were to die today and met Jesus at the heavenly gates, if He asked you, 'Why should I let you into my heaven?' What would you say?" While that's definitely not my favorite question, I do understand the intention. The motivation of that or similarly shaped questions is to help a person determine if they know the gospel, the good news of Jesus. Romans 4 is rooted in this exact same motivation. Paul wants both the Jewish and Gentile background believers to know how to be made right with God.

He died "instead of us" and "in our place." It should have been you and I. Instead, Jesus took our place on the Cross (substituting in for us). Although this is not the only way to think about the atonement, Christ's substitutionary sacrifice is the beating heart and central idea of atonement.

Paul’s audience, the Roman house churches, were experiencing tension along several cultural and spiritual fault lines. There was the racial issue - Jews vs. Gentiles. There was also the “Strong” vs. “Weak” divide addressed in chapters 14-15. Romans 1 addresses issues that the “weak” could get behind (God’s wrath against pagan behavior). But then Paul flips the whole argument on its head in Romans 2 to show that everyone, even the “elect”, are equally broken and in need of the grace of God. The great lie that all people buy into, whether Jew or Gentile, weak or strong, is the lie of idolatry - exchanging love of God for love of something created.

But in a broken world love is not always seen, received, experienced, or given appropriately. This is where grief comes in. Joy and Grief are the two primary expressions and emotions of love. Love received results in joy. Love that is missing or abused results in grief. As those who follow the Way of Jesus we are called to live in the balance of joy and grief. Revelation implies a revealer. Revelation means that something hasn't been found by a work of discovery, it's been shown and uncovered by a revealer. God has revealed Himself through His Word. And through His Word God has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Spirit. Here we enter into the deep and pivotal great mystery of Christianity - the Trinity. God is One, revealed in the three persons of the Trinity. To be a Christian is to enter into the threefold, Triune fellowship of Father, Son, and Spirit.

It's best to describe the Word of God using terms that the Word of God uses to describe itself. The Word of God is inspired, holy, and authoritative. If you examine the English word authority, you'll see that the root word is "author". To have authority is to be connected to the author. Jesus, is the author and perfecter of our faith. We build our believing faith, allegiant faith, and obedient faith on His authority.

We cannot build a stairway to heaven, or find God with our own philosophies and thoughts. But God is a God who speaks through revelation and has not left us in the dark. To reveal means to "uncover." God has revealed and uncovered His nature to us through His Word. This comes to us through the Living Word, the written Word, and the Word proclaimed in and through the life and words of the church. In this week's teaching we'll continue to unfold this beautiful, three-dimensional vision of the Word of God, overlaying it with a three-dimensional picture of faith.

The kindness and gentleness of Jesus leads us to repentance. Repentance is the first step of faith. The gentleness of Jesus ushers us into this life of faith. Unfortunately, time and again, we fail and misrepresent the faith in a way that is neither honoring nor reflective of who Jesus is. In his gentleness, Jesus invites us back into a reinvigorated faith, with Christ who is our standard of faith, enthroned in the center. As we abide in Jesus, he continues in every season to produce his fruit in us.

Our call is to live as apprentices of Jesus and bear His name in the world.

If we want to utilize the Bible in the way God intended, then we need to understand what its intention is. Unfortunately, the Bible has at times been misused and abused throughout church history. Much of this can be traced back to a misunderstanding of the purpose of the Scriptures. So, let's ask together: What is the intended purpose of the Bible?

Jesus not only took on human flesh, He can relate to us in every way –in sorrow and in joy. God relates, He rejoices.

New Testament theologian N.T. Wright has often said that the resurrection of Jesus was God’s first act of new creation. We may not be able to fully see it (“now we see in part”), but God has already begun his grand plan of renewal. God’s recreating work began with the life, example, teaching, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. We don’t know, specifically, how and when God’s work through Jesus will culminate in the recreation of all things. But we can be sure of Jesus’ intentions to make all things new. Jesus said, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Rev. 21:5). God is renewing the world.

The character of God is revealed through His self-sacrificial, covenantal love and mercy. And His justice and righteousness are satisfied and fulfilled through His self-sacrifice. A lamb was slain to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve following the Fall. The Bible teaches that God is able to be in all places, at all times, and is holding all things together. God has chosen to reveal Himself through three primary forms of personal, self-revelation. God is Father. God is Son. God is Spirit. To know God is to know Him as Father, Son, and Spirit. "God Incomprehensible"

What is God like? Well...He's not exactly like anything else. He is the source point. God is the Creator of all that exists. He alone is infinite, everything and everyone else is finite. Though we can know God in the sense that we can learn about Him through His self-revelation, God is ultimately incomprehensible. Finite humans cannot fully comprehend our infinite God. Reflections on Spiritual Formation: Spiritual Disciplines

If you have ever done even the most cursory exploration on the topic of spiritual formation, it's likely that you have come across the topic of spiritual disciplines. Discipline is a word out of vogue in our individualistic, postmodern, materialistic culture.  But there can be no true maturity outside of the discipline of God. The classic Christian spiritual disciplines have been consistently practiced by followers of Christ seeking to grow in their relationship with God for the past 2,000 years. We would be foolish to ignore their collective wisdom and testimony. Join us today for a brief survey of the 12 spiritual disciplines written about by Richard Foster in his classic work The Celebration of Discipline as we continue our series on spiritual formation.

Reflections on Spiritual Formation: Orientation, Disorientation, Reorientation

Everyone (EVERYONE) goes through the cycle of orientation, disorientation, and then (hopefully) reorientation. The Bible is filled with examples of this cycle.  Spiritual formation writers and thinkers have long identified this as one of the key processes that each person - and each family, institution, and even nation - goes through. We all have an original design, or orientation, from God. We all experience the disorienting failings that come from both within and without. And, in Jesus, we are all invited into a reorientation and redemptive process of growth.  Join us as we discuss this key concept and continue our midweek series on spiritual formation.

"What was the most quoted statement from Scripture by the early church fathers (roughly the first 300 years of church history)? Was it John 3:16 or a passage from Romans 8? 1 Corinthians 13 or 1 John 3:16? These are all beautiful passages that reveal vital truths about God and about humanity. However, the church fathers' most quoted passage of Scripture (in the writings from the church fathers that have survived) comes from Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." It is easy to guess why. In the first 300 years of Christianity, the Christian faith was a fringe and mis-understood movement in the midst of the vast Roman empire. Christians often faced persecution and sometimes even martyrdom. Rather than striving for cultural prominence or political power, early Christians sought the welfare and common good of their neighbors by practicing enemy love. This is the very thing that Jesus did for us. While we were still sinners..."

Jesus said, "Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil." Why does "anything more than this" come from evil? One reason is that swearing oaths can be a form of verbal manipulation. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, "Imitate me, as I imitate Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). In the Gospels we see Jesus live out each of these 5 spiritual practices.

Mid-Week Teaching – Joy and Grief: Working through Empathy
In this week's teaching we explore the role of empathy in suffering. Have you ever struggled with what to say to a friend or loved one when they're going through a difficult trial? You're not alone. Unfortunately, people often unintentionally say hurtful things that only make things more painful in these situations. The paradox of joy and grief in the Scriptures helps reveal a healthy path forward.

Living a life of balance between joy and grief can help us understand when it is time to be silly and when it is time to be disciplined.

Biblical lament offers us a path to move through this discomfort into a place of wisdom and rest.

“When a person lives a life of balance, willing to embrace both joy and grief, then the treasures of both joy and grief are unlocked.  Joy is the key to grief and grief the key to joy. When we hold on to the hope of joy, even in the midst of deep lament, grief can become a source of healthy lament, loving anger, and helpful honesty”. – DJay Martin “Joy & Grief”

Danny Conicelli teaches on Psalm 2, with the message entitled “Jesus in the Psalms: Lion, Lamb, King” as he continues the sermon series “Living in His Story: Jesus, the Author, Hero, Completer”.

“The idea of YHWH alone as king, as expressed by the extreme revolutionaries in the first century, thus raises a big question. What will this mean in practice, in reality? What will is look like? How does all this line up, if it does, with the national expectation and hope? Will it underwrite it, will it overthrow it, or will it perhaps do both of those at the same time? Paying attention to the prophets would indicate that something like this third possibility was likely; but what would it actually mean? In particular, the question was raised: would YHWH actually appear, visibly and in person, to take charge? If so, what could people expect to see? How would it happen?” -N.T. Wright referencing Psalm 2

Psalm 2 was written around 1044 B.C. by King David. In 2020 A.D. we are privileged with a clearer picture of God’s “Anointed King” through his revelation in the person of Jesus Christ. Why is this significant and what does it mean for us today? Does Jesus as King fulfill all your expectations? Allow the Holy Spirit to teach you His message while reading through Psalm 2 along with, Acts 13:13-52, Romans 1:1-6, Matthew 28:18, John 12:12-15, 19:14-15, and Revelation chapters 5 & 6..”

“Is the universe a friendly place?” This, according to Albert Einstein, is the key question for humanity to ask when pondering the nature of life. I think it’s a very good question, though, as a Christ follower, I would probably frame it slightly differently. As Christians, our worldview – namely the way in which the hope and joy we have in Christ shape the way we view life – compels us to answer “Yes!” But, how then do we process the horrors of our fallen world with intellectual and emotional honesty? Things around us are often really bad, and to say otherwise would be completely disingenuous. How then do we still fiercely cling to the hope we have in the promises of God, while also not belittling the suffering and pain around us? Thank God for the Psalms. Here we find a balance of joy and grief, of celebration and mourning. Psalm 22 illustrates this richly. Psalm 22 was a song written by David in a time of deep grief. It was the Psalm quoted by Jesus on the cross and also quoted by both the gospel writers John and Mark when reflecting upon the Crucifixion. Psalm 22 is also illustrative of the types of things that you and I face as we journey through a broken world, experiencing real pain, while always holding fast to faith, hope, and the love of Christ.”
