Whenever I debate the topic of bugging out or bugging in the classic The Clash song 'Should I Stay or Should I Go?' comes to mind. The classic chorus reminds us that either way you choose there will be trouble.

Should I stay or should I go now? Should I stay or should I go now? If I go, there will be trouble And if I stay it will be double So come on and let me know

In this episode, Myles and I talk about bugging out and bugging in the why or why not and share our thoughts and ideas on this important topic.

Other training in Instructional System Design, Curriculum Development, and lastly in 2020 Certified Life Coach recognized by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Nico was first introduced to personal development in 2015 when he was recruited to be in the direct sales industry. After attending one major event, things have changed and shifted a lot. He really saw where he was lacking and was ready to learn more and be more in order to serve more. Married in 2017 and divorced in 2019, Nico fell into a black hole. After spending 6 months living in a dark space, he reconnected with the world by choosing to live his gift. And his gift is to inspire and empower other men into becoming a Man of Substance otherwise known as Man of Value. Are others "cheating" or are you limiting yourself?

There seem to be many instances today of people playing soccer with their hands or playing by a different set of rules.
When we encounter a situation where we feel this way we have a few options.

  1. Pout and go sit in the bleachers.
  2. Nobly stick to our guns and your rules and play harder.
  3. Evaluate why you are playing by your set of rules.

You may be lined up on the football field rather than the soccer pitch and limiting yourself while pointing at others not only makes you look foolish but makes it almost impossible to win.

My guest is Ben Killoy is a Marine Veteran, speaker, and a coach focusing on helping dads rebuild confidence on the other side of generational trauma.

Ben transitioned out of the Marines and was spending a great deal of time running on the typical path in life, college, getting a job, start a family, all towards American Dream. In 2014 he dropped out of the College of Engineering and left with a big question, what next? From this point, he reconnected with a love of leadership, and a desire to become a better husband and dad.

He launched his first podcast Military Veteran Dad In 2019 and now his second podcast The Business of Fatherhood in 2021. He is currently a stay-at-home dad and coach spending quality time with his family while still working hard and helping others. Ben now helps other dads come home, by redefining the parameters for living and creating a legacy of change.

After starting out season two of Heroes Wanted with a powerful episode. This episode will set the expectations for season two, much will be the same with a few changes and a new opportunity if you are ready.

Same
Weekly episodes focused on helping men level up as husbands, fathers, and leaders. This will include the occasional great guest, and solo episodes with yours truly.

Changes
The solo episodes will be much shorter finishing out at 10-15 min. and I will be bringing back many of the interviews and favorites from the Ever Vigilant podcast archives.

These changes are to give me the opportunity to get back some time, for myself and for my friends and family. I am enjoying my time in one on one strategy calls and coaching calls and I prefer using my time in this way. I also have other projects that I want to invest in, including a new podcast on the horizon with a co-host. I have wanted to do a podcast with a co-host for a long time now and I believe that this combo will be a winner. Stay tuned as we leak info on this new project.

I also have a new group coaching option that I am weighing interest in, give this episode a listen and if you are interested email me directly at jprim@heroeswanted.us

Welcome to Season Two of Heroes Wanted, we are going to start this season out with a BANG. Myles was not only a multiple-time guest on Ever Vigilant but I am proud to call this man a friend. Some have wondered what happened to the Snake Doctor, and he is ready to tell his tale. We start out talking about his business and first aid like we have many times before, but that is just the beginning of this epic podcast episode. Myles goes deep and shares the trials and tribulations of the last two years, but this is not a story of defeat. It is a story of a man rising from the ashes a better, stronger man, driven by his faith and a resounding purpose. This is a story of hope for all, a testimony of God's faithfulness in the midst of the storm. Whether you are in the middle of a storm or you see one on the horizon this is an episode that you do not want to miss.

Fighting Chaos

I posted the show notes from the previous episode of Heroes Wanted on Instagram last week. I received a great reply from my friend Mark Booher over @TheBarritus. Mark has been a guest on several of my podcast episodes and is a wealth of information.

Quote-
“I also think facing chaos is intimidating because it’s unknown - without the form we’re accustomed to. But it’s from chaos that order is formed. And if you look at the myths and legends of old, creating order from chaos is often a violent and bloody one - metaphorically speaking.” -Mark Booher

This post got me thinking about chaos, a consistent and persistent adversary of man since the beginning of time. The reality that we must accept is that life is chaos, the chaos is never going away. We must find a way to adapt and overcome the chaos, if only in our day to day lives and in the lives of those that we influence each day.

Merriam-Webster – Definition of chaos
1 : a state of utter confusion
the blackout caused chaos throughout the city
b : a confused mass or mixture
a chaos of television antennas

I don’t know that I could come up with a term to better describe the world that we are living in today. But unlike many, I don’t believe that it is out of the ordinary. I don’t even believe that we are necessarily living in extraordinary times. I believe that it has always been this way. The difference perhaps is that have more information, maybe too much information, and as has often happened throughout history we have lost faith in those that we need to trust in order to believe that there is order.

Merriam-Webster – Definition of order
to put in order : arrange
The books are ordered alphabetically by author.

As men, it has been our defining purpose to serve through bringing order. Our attempts at bringing order are epic. Everything from time to calendars to hieroglyphics is a search for order. Some have resulted in great benefits for all (water filtration, capitalism) others have led to the death of millions (communism).

This need for order drives each of us as individuals in our personal lives, our families, and our communities. It is this drive for order that is often used to manipulate us as I talked about in my episode from Feb. 20 titled Following The Script, go give it a listen. The script we follow is not inherently bad but is used to bring order to your family, your culture, your community, etc.

I want to key in on two ways to fight the chaos. Because if you do not engage at least in these two ways. The chaos will chew you up and spit you out. The chaos or the way in which you deal with it will overcome you and destroy you.

1. Find the beauty in the midst of the chaos. It is always there but rarely easy to find. In my book OPEN: Six Life Changing Principles I delve into a very personal story of some ministry work we did in the Guatemala city dump. Of all of the places that I have traveled and met people, this was beyond compare as the worst place I have ever been. The hopelessness hung in the air along with the stench of rotten trash, human excrement, and filth. The total pits of life are not far from here, within spitting distance. The only thing that could have made this place worse was war. As a lower-middle-class American trying to gain some sort of mental grasp on what I was seeing let alone experiencing was a challenge. The chaos was everywhere. As I searched for something to hold on to, I noticed the children. In the midst of this hell, there were children smiling and laughing. These malnourished, dirty, bare-footed children were happy. This was their world, they knew nothing different, and like all kids, they enjoyed the puppet show, balloons, candy, and attention we shared. Without finding the beauty in the chaos, you can and will at some point be overwhelmed. Without finding the beauty, a reason, a hope, you will not be able to fully focus or engage in life or your tasks at your best or in a worthy manner.

Find the beauty, your wife, your family, a song, a poem, quote, or verse, find the why.

2. You don’t now, and never will have total control. In order to maintain a sort of at least healthy respect for this fact we as humans have devised ways to live within this chaos.

Routine: to give order to our life and the lives of our family.
Tradition: to give order to a larger group of people, a culture, community, or country.

Like most things that involve humans, these can get out of order themselves and lead to their very own chaos. The antithesis of a routine of order is a routine of sedation and sabotage. In an effort to bring order, a sense of control to our lives we can cause great destruction. Just as I mentioned earlier the endeavor to bring order can be extremely destructive to yourselves and those in the vicinity. Things like micro-managing seem to bring order but don’t. Aggressiveness, yelling, and bullying bring a sense of control but ultimately birth even more chaos and you sabotage your very own good intentions. If you are not intentional in how you bring order by routine you will take the path of sedation. You will sedate yourself with alcohol, porn, video games, politics, sports, food, entertainment, living vicariously through for children. You will find a way to hide from the chaos rather than confront the chaos head-on. For far too many of our fellow-men this has led to suicide. Husbands and fathers finding a permanent solution for the temporary chaos that seems to have taken control. You must build a routine that challenges you on a daily basis and keeps you alert to the dangers of sedation, self-sabotage, and suicide. I recorded an episode on my morning routine a while back, I also have a training video available for a quick daily journal system. These things are a part of a routine to give me some control of the chaos in my own life.

Man has had tradition since the beginning of time. From the solstices to harvest, to the celebration of the seasons. Once again these traditions can become destructive, like the sacrificing of babies in many cultures. The power of these traditions can be felt as we call this phenomenon the Christmas spirit at Christmas time. Once again, build these traditions that you and your family participate in with intent. Do your traditions build unity? Do they bring joy? Is there excitement in anticipation of them? Build your own weekly, monthly, and yearly family traditions. Make them unique, these differences will create a distinction between you and others. For bonus points, have a family meeting and solicit suggestions, and vote on things to do. Your influence through your routine, like my daily note writing and through your family tradition brings order to the chaos.

"Talk is cheap", I clearly remember my uncle telling me. I was in my early teens and didn't quite understand the significance of his statement. I reflect on this thought regularly and attempt to weigh what I say against it. In this crazy world, action is the remedy.

Talking creates noise
Noise creates chaos
Chaos creates fear

The only remedy is action. Every that you complain you indite yourself.

I want to touch on two issues that prevent action.

(1. You are surprised

Good people, those that don't make a habit of lying, cheating, stealing, hurting others are surprised or shocked by the behavior of those that do. When the "Golden Rule" is the standard for your life, it is difficult to understand and deal with those that don't abide by what you feel are the rules of the game. This often leaves those that behave badly in power or in positions of influence. Some of these people are intentional of their "bending" of the rules and enjoy not being hampered by the rules, while others less intentional but the results are often the same. Good people asking why?, rather than asking the correct questions which is How do we fix this?

(2. You are comfortable

Comfort keeps good people from taking risks and assuming responsibilities. Just as comfort and distractions kept David away from leading his men in battle, and ultimately led to an affair and a murder. We created to be mission minded and serve a purpose greater than ourselves. Caught up in comfort and distractions we lose sight of what is worth fighting for. Is comfort and diversion greater than your family, church, or community? The "Proof is in the Putting" as they say, take a look around you. What you value, is what you serve. What do your actions say?

No one is coming to save you, if there is chaos, or issues in your life. Take a stand and lead. You are who you are and where you are for a reason, to serve a purpose greater than you. Find it and jump in. I am asking you to join the fight, in your church, school board, city council, go where the fight is and shine light in the darkness and lead.

The remedy is action, your action.

Once again, I dive into Hero Theory this time looking at Moses the man who lead the Hebrews out of the land of Egypt. The theory is that there are three giants that must be overcome in order to truly be a hero. Fear, lies, and the expectations of others keep you from rising up and serving a purpose bigger than you. You are not granted hero status by your pay scale, office location, uniform or something that you did long ago, hero status is earned each day as you subdue these giants and rise up to serve that greater purpose.

Fear- Pharaoh
Lies- Someone else should go, insecurities about speaking, they won't believe me
Expectations of Others- The Hebrews were not happy with the results of Moses's meeting with Pharaoh, which resulted in an even worse working conditions for the slaves

Moses defeated these three giants and the hero rose to the occasion. Eventually fleeing Egypt with the Hebrew people. I firmly believe that overcoming his fears, the lies, and the expectations of others and the up and down prolonged dispute with Pharaoh prepared Moses for the 40 years in the wilderness to come.

Be certain in the fact that the battles that you are facing today, are preparation for the battles of tomorrow.

All warfare is based on deception - Sun Tzu, The Art of War

We can become so entranced by the glitz, glamour, lights, and glory of sports, news,
movies, and television “programming’ (fitting word, right?), that we
lose track of the fact we are constantly being sold something:
sometimes an upgrade to something that we already own, a new car
or a watch, or even a pair of shoes. But often we're being sold
something else, something insidious. More often than not, we're
literally being sold a set of moral standards, beliefs, allegiances or
even lifestyle. Everything from TV to Facebook is offering
something, and we fail to ask some very simple questions.

We proceed to buy the shoes, use the hashtag, nod
our heads and believe the lies or change our values and beliefs based
on the promise made by someone with their own agenda. We must
open our minds to the fact we are being lied to for the gain of others
for business, our government, our churches, the kingdom of this
world.

In this episode of Heroes Wanted I dive into 'The Script'.

Almost all men follow a script for the first 30+ years of their life.

The script varies by culture, family tradition, country, etc. But looks something like this.

School
College, Military or Training of some kind
Job
Marriage
Children

Some of you may have been rebels and skipped a step or changed the order but regardless you followed a script.

The script isn't bad it kept you on a path that is best for your society as a whole, during your most unsettled years.

The issue is not the script, but rather what happens at the end of that script.

Feeling Stuck
Lost
Lacking Purpose
Apathy
Frustration
Doubt
Fear

Very little is what you were told, or prepared for.

Sunshine and rainbows aren't a result of following the script.

The end of the old script can be a golden opportunity to write your own script.

But, there will be work to do.

Dads are you stuck?

Are you feeling lost, frustrated, and lacking a purpose?

Are you in a rut, going through the motions day after day and getting nowhere?

If I could guarantee to get you out of this rut –

– and have clarity and direction in your life
– and feel confident in yourself and your decisions
– and find purpose

Would you take me up on that offer?

Here's how it works.

You work with me 1 on 1.

We'll meet once a week via Zoom for 45 mins.

I'll provide you with:

– a personalized plan, to get you unstuck and very clear on where you are going.
– weekly video lessons, so that you can learn what you need to do.
– assignments, to put into practice what you learn.
– challenges, to get you outside of your comfort zone where growth occurs, and confidence is born.

And I'll even provide the required books (including my favorite book on leadership), an awesome journal, several field notebooks, and the supplies needed for you to succeed delivered right to your front door. (US only)

NOW

There will be effort and sacrifice involved; everything of value has a price.

But, I will be with you each step of the way with 24/7 support via text so I can help keep you on task.

You will need to show up on time and be prepared for the 1 on 1 calls, complete the lessons, challenges, and the assignments.

But, don't worry

Where you see uncertainty, I see your potential. I have been there and have experienced this journey myself first hand.

Now

What happens if you show up on time and prepared for the 1 on 1 calls, complete the lessons, challenges, and assignments

– and don’t have clarity and direction in your life
– and don’t feel confident in yourself and your decisions
– and don’t find purpose

Then I will keep coaching you for FREE until you do

There is absolutely no risk to you of not leveling up.

This program isn’t about change, it’s not about evolution, it’s about a new you, it’s about uncovering the hero that is within you, but has been buried by years of lies, fear, and expectations of others.

Note due to the highly personalized nature of this service and my limited availability… I can only take on 5 new clients

Sure, you can continue doing nothing, but you know exactly where that leads.

You can try to do it yourself by reading countless books, watching a bunch of YouTube videos (be careful those cat videos are distracting), and listening to hours of podcasts hoping to find something that clicks.

But, if you're serious about finally taking control of your life, dropping the excuses, and becoming the husband, father, and leader that you want to be.

Let’s schedule a strategy call where we can design a plan to get you out of that rut and heading where you want to go.

I was asked awhile back to share some of my favorite books. With my Audible library up over 450 titles at this point, I have listened to a lot of books on many different topics.

At some point I may do another favorite books of all time episode, but I thought a look at my favorites of 2021 would be better at this point. I wanted to keep the episode a reasonable length so I kept my thoughts on each book short. If you have any questions or thoughts, let me know, I know the value of an Audible credit.

Here they are in no particular order.

No More Mr. Nice Guy, By: Dr Robert Glover
Unbreakable, By: Thom Shea
Violence of Mind, By: Varg Freeborn
Rogue Heroes, By: Ben Macintyre
The Energy Paradox, By: Steven R. Gundry MD
Genesis: Arisen, Book 0.5, By: Michael Stephen Fuchs

In this episode I talk with Brian Fleming he is an inspiring military keynote speaker. He is a combat-wounded Afghanistan war veteran, international speaker, and resilience trainer who helps people be more resilient in tough, turbulent situations. He was severely wounded in action by a suicide bomber who exploded 3-feet away from him in Kandahar, Afghanistan and now he teaches strategies for overcoming unexpected challenges.

We talked about him getting blown up twice in Afghanistan, he is the OG "blownupguy.com"

In this episode, I talk about taking action. Despite of of the rules, despite of the nay-sayers, despite of the hate, you must take action and move forward in your mission.

Gideon-

Fear- Midianites
Lies- "My clan is the weakest and I am the least in my family.
Expectations of Other- His family expected him to act as the youngest, keep quiet, help out, and conduct himself as the least of his brothers.

As we progress thru this year I will continue to seek out Heroes to learn from.

My suspicion is that these three challenges will become a pattern.

If you are ready to abandon average, and uncover the hero within.

Look at your fears, the lies that you tell yourself, and the expectations of others that are holding you back.

Your family, your congregation, your community, and your country are in dire need of heroes today.

Heroes Wanted.

In this episode, I break continue to break down the origin story of Gideon in the book of Judges verse six. Fear. Lies. Expectations of Others. These are three of the biggest challenges to abandoning average and uncovering the Hero within.

I started out this year recording a podcast series on Gideon one of the heroes of the Bible.

As I read through the story and meditated on it.

I realized that Gideon took on these three challenges as well before becoming the Hero.

In the first episode of 2022, we break down the origin story of Gideon in the book of Judges verse six. There is a vivid picture of the chaos and devastation of the time, as some begin to call out in prayer an unlikely Hero emerges.

When Gideon is called out, his story begins where many men find themselves today. He first plays the victim card and when those claims are answered, he begins to make excuses and show his doubt in himself.

A special EV ReRun of our Christmas Special with Joseph Cartwright.

In this episode, I was joined by my good friend Joseph Cartwright, back in 2018. I asked Joseph to join me for a special Christmas episode, and he did not disappoint. Reminding us that Jesus didn't stay a baby, that his arrival was foretold hundreds of years earlier. Most importantly we talk about why he came and how the story that started thousands of years ago was all about YOU, and your redemption. God Bless you all and I pray that you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

My Motto for 2021 was "without fear there is no risk and without risk there is no reward. Living out this motto though 2021 has lead to a mountain of failures and few significant rewards. The greatest lesson learned this experience is that I am no longer afraid to fail.

Most are living a life of safety, fearing failure. Fear of failure is playing not to loose, rather than playing to win. New jobs aren't found, and old relationships aren't repaired by playing not to loose.

Lessons learned from a year of failures.

  1. It is not a failure if you learn something
  2. Failure is going to hurt, that's OK your mission is greater than your pain.
  3. Screw your Ego! Ego is the enemy and will hold you down.
  4. There will be a cost, what are you willing to sacrifice to get what you want?
  5. Fail, Fail, Fail, and do it again, eventually you will realize that failures don't define you.

Gratitude is a way of life not a list.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things in life, anyone can say that they are grateful for their health, home, and family.

If you want to leverage gratitude in your life, you will need to dig deeper. You must be grateful for even the the difficult ad challenging times in life.

Two keys to making gratitude a way of life.

  1. Open your mind to the realization that out of adversity accelerated growth can occur.

  2. Open your mind to the ongoing inner dialogue in your mind.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States this week, let's take a deeper look at ourselves and the role that gratitude plays in our lives and in how we grow and interact with those we love.

In this episode I have a great conversation with Rick Bennett. When I started my conversation with Rick I was under the assumption that his excellent devotional Send Me would be the focus of our conversation. You know what they say about assuming, and the old maxim proved true once again. But in this case I am fortunate that it did, and the story of how Rick came to write this devotional is a good one. Rick felt a call to serve his community and joined his local police dept. as a reserve deputy, Rick later took a leap of faith and walked away from an established well paying career to follow a calling to a purpose bigger than himself by moving to another state to become a full time officer. In his short career as an officer he once again saw and opportunity to serve his new community of first responders and military personal by writing Send Me.

Rick is a great example that it is never to late to change things up, make a move and to commit to serving others. This will require a step of faith and sacrifice, but the impact that YOU can make will be felt by many. I hope this podcast serves to challenge you today, where you are.

Well, I screwed up and lost the audio for my last two interviews. Two! I know, I know, but my mistake is your gain. I dug deep into the archives of my previous podcast, Ever Vigilant to find one of my favorite episodes. One of the benefits to doing a podcast for so long is the treasure trove of content hidden in the deepest recesses of my hard drive. This conversation was based on an article by Paul Curtman. The article blew my mind the first time I read it and Paul was kind enough to join me on EV to talk about it. I believe that this podcast will surprise you as you realize that there is nothing new under the sun.

Paul Curtman is a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terror as an infantry squad leader. He is also an author and frequent speaker at political events having spoken all across the nation from Washington DC to Los Angeles.

Paul is a strong advocate for personal freedom, sound financial principles and free markets. He is a Fellow at the Club for Growth, a Washington D.C. based non-profit charitable organization formed to educate the public about the value of free markets and pro-growth policies.

3 Keys to Level Up Your Communication Skills

Do you have a habit of saying things that you don't want to say and not saying the thing that you should?

Do you struggle with long time-wasting meetings? Do you struggle with your marriage due to miscommunication? Are you unclear in your communication with your kids?

As most men move further and further away good communication in this brave new world. I believe that it is more important than ever that we focus in and level up our skills in this area. If we value relationship communication is necessary, and the better that we are in this area the better that our relationships will function.

Intention- Know what you want to say, be brief and clear!

Empathy- Meet others where they are, each of us is different. Empathy goes a long way to bridging that gap. It doesn't mean you agree, only that you are making an effort to see their perspective.

Honesty- The truth hurts, lies kill. Nothing can be truly resolved with out honesty. Honest conversation, questions and answers, no matter the consequences.

I share my thoughts on what is going on in the world around us. There is chaos, fear, and an uncertain future as we grapple with a struggling nation.

My objective is to add fuel to the fire in your heart or to feed that small ember to grow into an inferno. We were put here is this time, and in this place for a reason. I see an inferno growing that will stand together on a hill to shed light into the deepest darkest crevices and expose those lurking in the shadows that desire to taint and destroy all that is righteous, pure, and good.

I touch on my book, the story of the emperor's new clothes, and the Game of Thrones series to illiterate what I see happening.

I made a promise that PDL would never be a bitch-fest, or a show that solely shared info or opinions. This podcast is a consistent reminder that no one is coming to save you and that you need to focus on improving yourself so I wrap up the episode with the 4 As from my book these will help in the evaluation of where you are and where you should be heading.

Assess- Honest evaluation
Accept- Accept that evaluation as true, whether it is good or bad
Adapt- Develop action plan based on the evaluation
Advance- Move forward with the plan

You want to make change in your life, but continue to fail in making it last.

You are not content with the man in the mirror. Yet you struggle to make the lasting changes that you need to make not only for yourself but also for those that are important for you.

  1. Identify- Be honest with yourself, be sure that you know the change to make in order to get the results that you need.

  2. Solution- Investigate, educate yourself on the best way for you to solve your issue. You don't know everything, if this change is important to you invest the time to learn.

  3. Plan- You must be realistic and specific, set up a plan that you can follow and that will help you accomplish the long term change you desire.

  4. Commit- This is something that you want/need, do it. Don't set yourself up to quit. Quitting is a bad habit. Failing is acceptable, quitting isn't.

I love dogs.

They have been a big part of my life and serve a purpose. They make me smile, bring joy, teach responsibility, and my big dog Brutus will tear your throat out if you mess with my kids.

But, they have NO Freedom, NO Freewill.

Good dogs do as they are told, or face the consequences, in return for free stuff
Heath care
Shelter
Food/Water

Giving your responsibilities to others, minimizes your freedom! Free men look at and live their life differently from their domesticated countrymen.

Take back responsibility in these seven areas and take back your freedom at the same time.

Free Wolf/Men v. Domesticated Dog/Men

Food. Dogs wait to be fed/Wolves go get what they want
Education. Dogs give up their young to outsiders/Wolves train their young to survive
Protection. Dogs can rarely defend themselves/Wolves are highly skilled in protecting their own
Tribe. Dogs none/Wolves epitomize this ideal with their pack
Health. Dogs fed processed food, little exercise/Wolves eat natural foods, never stop
Prepare. Dogs fully dependent/Wolves provide their own food and shelter
Speak Out. Dogs are scolded for barking/Wolves howl at the moon whenever they please

No one is coming to save you!

Most of you have no one that you trust, no one to help, no one to hold you to a standard, no one to talk to,.............

As you endure the paradigm shift that has rocked the sense of balance in our nation and the world as a whole. I believe that you no longer have the luxury of living as a lone wolf. It is imperative that you solidify the foundations of your existing relationships and invest the time, and energy into building a tribe of like minded men.

Three reasons why you need to invest into building your tribe.

  1. Teaching/Learning- You need to share your experience for the benefit of others, while leveraging their experience for your own benefit.

  2. Standards- You will benefit from being held to and holding others to a high standard, but this is a result of respect and trust. Trust and respect must be earned accountability is the by-product.

  3. Help- From time to time you will need help, there is no better way to strengthen a friendship than to help others in a time of need and be certain of that you will be in need of help at some point too.

Get good people around you, the world is changing and solid relationships will always be invaluable.

"Surround yourself with men that will hold you to a high standard, and ferociously defend your back."

NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU!

Where you are today in your life is a result of your beliefs, and the actions that you have taken based on your beliefs.

As a boy we all looked up to our heroes, whether they won games, saved lives, hurt bad people, or explored the far reaches of the universe. You were sure that this was what your future would hold as a man. Somewhere along the line the comforts and the distractions of modern life grabbed hold and apathy has slowly squeezed the life out of you.

Rather than step into arena to face the enemy (yourself), you sedate your pain and hide your frustrations with politics, video games, sports, porn, Netflix, work or anyone of a million other possibilities. These distractions serve as an escape from the reality that you have created for yourself, yet you despise.

You blame your wife, your kids, or your growing responsibilities at work for where you find yourself today. But deep down you know. You know that there is no one to blame but yourself and as you begin to take ownership, the Hero buried beneath the years of fear, lies, and the expectations of others, begins to stir.

If you are here, you are uncommon, an ember burns deep inside of you, searching for the fuel to grow into an inferno.

Unlike most men you are no longer content with this mediocrity.
Unlike most men you are ready to commit to a change.
Unlike most men you know that you were meant for more.
Unlike most men you are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to rescue the hero not only for yourself, but for those you love and value the most.

What is the cost of leaving the Hero buried under the fears, lies, and expectations of others?

When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh

I believe that the home must be made a fortress, a place safe and secure, a buttress fortified against the storms assailing from outside. It is our responsibility to build a sanctuary of peace and calm from the storms and the zombie hordes that dwell outside the walls of our castle. We need to create a definite difference between what goes on outside, and what goes on inside our home, our fortress.

Our homes are often filled with as much or with more chaos and disorder than there is outside the four walls of your home. Our homes are in dire need of leadership, and that means YOU.

Meetings are important at work, at church, and in the community, but far to often only happen in our family when big trouble arises.

These are the three keys that I use to make family meetings worth while, productive, and even enjoyable.

  1. Keep it brief and orderly, short and sweet and to the point.
  2. Cover issues, schedule, and concerns.
  3. Each member must be allowed and opportunity to share, in order to keep this in line with number 1 & 2 we ask 4 questions.

a. Win for the week?
b. Loss for the week?
c. What are you reading/learning?
d. What do you need help with?

No One is Coming to Save You!

Where you are today is a result of Your beliefs and the decisions You made based on those beliefs.

Do you want what you say you want?

Do your actions reflect your thoughts?

If someone judged you based on your actions for a week would it align with what you say?

Three keys to to stop spinning your wheels and actually make progress.

  1. What do you want? Sounds simple, but most men don't know have an honest, thought out answer to this question. Take the time, pray, meditate, think, ask, but you must have clarity in what it is that you want.

  2. What are you willing to sacrifice to get it? With the clarity from step one, acknowledge what is standing in the way and honestly decide if you are actually willing to give it up. If you are not willing to make the sacrifice necessary, now you know and can stop lying to yourself. If you are proceed to step three.

  3. You know what you want, you know what's standing in your way, now is the time to act. Give up what is standing in your way, walk away (or run), stop immediately doing what you have decided to sacrifice, set up a plan (gym membership, life coach, diet plan, etc), and apply it. No, second guessing, no excuses, no lies.

No One is Coming to Save You!

Where you are today is a result of Your beliefs and the decisions You made based on those beliefs.

My intent is to equip you to uncover the hero within.

Life is a series of problem solving exercises, the more tools you have and the further outside of the box you are willing to think the more options that you will have.

Are you overwhelmed, and frustrated by the seemingly endless string of problems that you are encountering in your life?

  1. Stop worrying about things that are out of your control, or don't matter. Even if these affect you in one way or another, if you do not have direct control. Put them to the side and focus on the things you do control

  2. Prioritize what problem or issue that must be resolved first, second, third, etc. and set the steps and actions required to solve the issue even one baby step at a time. Do not get ahead of yourself, or get overwhelmed by the next step, focus on what you are working on.

3.Take action, fail, learn, Take action, fail, learn, Take action fail, ask questions, seek advice, take action etc, etc,..... Don't let the fear of failing keep you from attempting to solve the problem. Don't allow yourself to get caught up in reading, talking, or "learning", there is no better way to learn than from your own action.

I haven't put out a podcast for a couple of weeks, I recorded this IG Live and converted it to a podcast as well to give a bit of an explanation.

The sound is a little rough and I did it unscripted, and straight from the heart (Gorilla Traffic Cast Style...if you know, you know). The vision for what I am trying to create only becomes clearer, and the mission has continued to evolve and will continue to evolve as I change and new opportunities arise.

The next evolution will be coaching, this will give me an opportunity to serve others in a more personal way, to encourage and challenge other men to raise their game both for themselves and those that they love.

I will continue to create content and share my experiences with you, as I get things going and continue to build out my coaching program, don't stay on the sidelines. Join me, and get involved. DM me on IG, FB or email me if you are interested in coaching, or let me know where you are struggling. I am for you.

Some of you will remember Eric Voris as a frequent guest on Ever Vigilant. I was excited to have Eric on PDL for the first time and our conversation did not disappoint. Eric is an avid hunter, but came to appreciate hunting at a later age than many. Late to the Game Outdoors was born out of his struggle to figure out how to deal with that inner “primal man” we all still have. Through his videos, writing, podcast and new book 'How to Hunt: A Total Beginner's Guide to Hunting Big Game' he seeks to make hunting as accessible to everyone as possible.

Communication is key to human interaction and building rapport with others is becoming a super power. Communication has been regressing for the last decade as email and text messaging have become the norm. This regression of the soft skill of communication has been multiplied by the Covid. It has been allowed to become a wedge in our human interaction and is used as an excuse for shoddy leadership. The consequences are only beginning to be felt as society begins to extricate themselves from under a blanket of fear and apathy.

In this episode I talk about some of the consequences of covid, and give you some of the things that I do to communicate clearly and to build human capital.

After my thoughts on communication I give updates on, Homestead 2.0, PDL Overland Project, and my soon to be released book OPEN.

In this episode I talk about why I got started in preparedness, and how we must be careful not to allow ourselves to be controlled by fear.

Fear leads to bad decisions and manipulation by others.

We cover the 6 main areas of preparedness and how to be redundant by building out in concentric circles from our personal everyday carry items all the way out to a homestead type property.

I try my best to simplify these ideas, because when I first embarked on this journey, preparedness seemed very overwhelming. If we can simplify things and alleviate fear, preparedness can become a family exercise.

Food
Water
Shelter (Heat/Dry)
First Aid/Health
Protection

In this episode I speak about preparedness, not as a list of things to buy or a check list, but an over arching mind set and way of life. Prepare is one of the three pillars of PDL., I believe that our goal should always be to be as prepared as possible for whatever comes our way that is out of the normal routine. Whether that is a vacation, an interview, a test, or an emergency the approach should be the same. We prepare not because of fear, but in an effort to fight fear and stress both for ourselves and our families. We fight fear though planning, knowledge, and provisions.

My approach to preparedness is big but very simple, in this episode I attempt to paint a picture of this concept. I touch on Why, Family, Obstacles, Basics, and Getting Started. This episode went much longer than I had expected so in the next episode I will continue to broaden my vision of preparedness.

In this episode I give some insight into what is actually happening down here in Texas and why things are as bad as they are. Coming from the Midwest I have a different perspective than most of our new friends and neighbors down here in central Texas. We are used to hard winters so I almost feel like we are cheating.

I briefly talk about a few important always mentioned must haves:
Food,
Water,
First Aid

The mental side of preparedness:
'Accept, Adapt, Advance'
The arrogance trap
Fear
Complaining

Some universal tools, to give you options:
Generator or Inverter
Jumper Cables
Camp Stove
Lights
Blankets
Rubber Boots
Games and Books

Preparedness is an important part of being a father, husband, or leader in your community. It is Your Mission and You should own it, rather than rely of others to do it for you. Put yourself in a position to survive or even thrive during hard times by starting to prepare today.

In this episode I talk about the fact that you don't know what you don't know and how I've been peeling away the layers of the onion to reveal that means to me.

There are two lessons that that became clear.
1. Be careful how you judge othersbecause they don't know what they don't know.
2. Be careful in what you believe to be true because you don't know what you don't know.

I also have some thoughts on the Reddit traders and their Gamestop shenanigans, and how we can use these principles in other areas.

In this episode,

I share my results from the Elliot Hulse 14 day Rational Fast as well as a few positives and negatives during the experience.

I talk about a story from the Bible that Jesus told, about a master giving sums of money to his servants to care for. I have some thoughts on this story and how it relates to you and me in the modern times. I believe that what we are given, we are expected to use and to leverage for the benefit of ourselves, our families, our communities and ultimately for the expanding the Kingdom. We in modern America have been given access to unlimited knowledge in the form of video, books, audio books, podcasts, courses, webinars, and live events. On top of having access to more knowledge in the palm of our hand than at any time in history we also have more time. Not that long ago everyone grew, harvested, preserved, or hunted, butchered and preserved everything that they ate. They often times also had animals to feed, care for, milk, etc. Homes needed to be kept up, and firewood and food stocked for the long winters. All of these things took a tremendous about of time each and everyday just to survive. We may fill our days with stuff, but there is no comparison to what our ancestors did. So if we have more access to knowledge and more time on our hands, What is our excuse? What will we have as a reason on our death bed or before a Holy God for not leveraging these things to grow and become better husbands, fathers, leaders, and to expand The Kingdom? As for me I believe that there is no excuse, I believe that I work diligently to become better each and every day, and to keep my focus on me and mine, while looking for solutions rather than pointing out and complaining about problems.

Wow, well it's been awhile since I recorded a fresh episode and it showed in this episode, I tried to squeeze 10 pounds of dog dirt in a 5 pound bag and I almost did!

I update everyone on Homestead 2.0, we are making progress.

I get into the 14 Day Rational Fast that I started on Jan. 4, what its about and why I'm doing it.

I introduce the the PDL Budget Overland Project, I will be working on building a budget overland Mitsubishi Montero, I will keep you updated on the progress via Instagram. Check it out @prepare.defend.lead

I also talk about my new daily show PDL RAW daily on IG, 2-10 minutes of my daily thoughts. Check it out @prepare.defend.lead

I go fairly deep into how I spent 14+ hours planning out 2021, and what I think is key.

Of course I touch on the elections, social media, and the chaos at the capital. My conclusions may not be yours.

Last but not least I talk about the important stuff, the Principles of OPEN. I go into the origin story of where these principles came from and how they have helped me to live out life in a completely different and more satisfying way than most people. I discovered these principles in a very difficult spot and they have served as guide posts along my journey to keep me on the right path. I want to share them again because they are the reason I started podcasting, and that I am doing any of this. I want to wake up men, to see that they are capable of so much more. I give a brief overview of each of the six principles.

In this episode I talk about the fact that most of us construct our own prison, and complain of all that we could or would do if we were free, while keeping the key to our prison safely hidden in our pocket. Many of us want a new job, want to be a better husband, want to loose some weight, and we know how to accomplish those goals. But we become comfortable in our self-made prison and keep ourselves from becoming great. 2021 is just around the corner, now is the time to unlock that door and press into future. Without fear there is no risk, without risk there is no reward.

I also talk about my favorite water filter, it's inexpensive, versatile, and small, making it a great option for hiking, EDC bag, Bug Out Bag, glove box.

This Episode is an Ever Vigilant Rerun from earlier this year, pre-covid lock downs. I've been busy with family, Wake Up Warrior Challenge and getting things in order to move this mission forward into 2021, A new episode will be up next week. I hope that you understand and enjoy this episode.

I believe we are in the middle of a paradigm shift, I don't believe that things will be back to normal in a couple of weeks. I believe that normal has been redefined and the new normal is not the old normal. We can choose to accept this as a possibility in order to think clearly and prepare for what is to come. The other option is to leave yourself in denial and potentially put yourself and your family in danger. A shift in mindset will allow you to adapt and to put yourself and your family in a place to succeed vs. exist. If everything does go back to normal at some point we already know how to prepare, defend, and lead, in that paradigm. Are you ready to prepare, defend and lead in a new paradigm?

As the RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) came flying toward my side of the helicopter, my life literally flashed before my eyes. It was pitch-black outside, so the helo crew was flying on NODs (night observation devices). The crew was short a door-gunner, so I filled in on the starboard door gun. Through my NODs, I could see the RPG round sailing toward us. It came at us so fast; I didn’t have time to call it out. We were conducting a routine drop off and pick up of personnel and had just taken off from the helipad. The downward thrust from the rotors must have caught the stabilizer fins on the rocket and caused it to change direction slightly. The rocket sailed under us, missing the helicopter skids by just a few feet.
I feel as though God held His protective hands around us that night. During the return flight back to base, I thought about all the times I’d had close brushes with death but God protected me. I wonder if a person gets only a certain number of those protections before they run out. I wonder if the number is different for each person. I wonder what my number is.

Episode 002: Stop Whining; Adapt

In this episode I talk a bit about how complaining and expecting others to do something holds us back from moving forward. It's not until we fully accept the situation we are in, that we can begin to come up with ideas and work on a solution to our situation.

The Social Media de-platforming of those that I follow and respect continues, and until we accept the fact that that we are in fact the underdog in this fight, we can not move forward. I share a few ideas on what content producers can do. More importantly I share some ideas on what we can and need to do to support those that are being or have been de-platformed.

I talk a bit about why I believe that it is important that we focus on building rapport, and relationships and use caution with divisive talk. We are friends, family, and communities, we shouldn't be to quick to allow others to divide us.

As we approach Nov. 3 and the unknown that may follow, I suggest a few ideas of things to add to the pantry whether you have been prepping for awhile or it's something new to you.
