PETER VAN GEIT Ultra runner, explorer, alpinist and minimalist. Born in Belgium, settled in India. Quit the corporate world in 2017 and into full time travel & exploration now. I usually plan my ultra journeys covering several months and thousands of kilometers in the remote mountains. In 2018 I ran 2000K in the remote mountains of Northeast Vietnam. In summer 2019 I fast hiked the Indian Himalayas crossing 120 lesser known high passes spanning 3500km and 150 thousand meters elevation gain. In winter 2019 I climbed 200 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Sahyadris in 2 months. Founder of the Chennai Trekking Club, a 40 thousand member volunteer based non-profit community active in outdoors, sports, environment and social initiatives. Our team was active in rescue and rehabilitation during the 2015 Chennai floods and 2018 Gaja cyclone. We built schools, toilets, homes and restored the lively hood of those affected during natural calamities. This blog documents various “Ultra Journeys” through running, hiking, cycling to reconnect with beautiful, untouched nature in the remote mountains and rediscover lost humanity hoping to inspire more like minded souls into exploration. Major Vivek Jacob (Veteran – Indian Army, Special Forces)
Founder and Director - C.L.A.W Global & Operation Blue Freedom Foundation
I was born into an Indian middle-class family and proudly joined the Army in my
teens to serve my country. Post formal training at the National Defence Academy, I
volunteered for and qualified as a Special Forces Operative. I specialised in Counter
– Terrorist Operations and was trained in various skills oriented to delivering precise
force in combat. I had the fortune to lead my men in numerous combat missions
during my service spanning 14 years. It was while being deployed in the United
Nations Mission in Africa as the commander of the Hostage Extraction Troop, that
my understanding of what it meant to be alive, human and free, began to evolve.
In 2015, I suffered a spinal cord injury in a combat skydive. While recovering in
hospital, I met an Airforce officer permanently paralysed in a mishap. The days spent
in hospital further changed my perspective of life. I voluntarily retired from the Army
and began a life focused on creation rather than destruction.
As I began a new journey, other ex- SF mates started joining in and we formed up
under the flagship - C.L.A.W global - a team of highly trained former Special Forces
soldiers. Specialists in scuba Diving, mountaineering, skydiving, un-armed combat,
survival, emergency medical response, etc. We united our energy to teach these
adventure and life skills to people with disabilities and tribal youth in villages. Our
focus being to design and deliver sustainable, large-scale employment solutions for
the handicapped and the underprivileged in the Environment Protection &
Conservation space.
In 2019, Team C.L.A.W launched Operation Blue Freedom. A movement to
express the powerful spirit and ability of people with disabilities. To evolve the
perception of society towards who they are and what they are capable of. To secure
their right to dignity. To exercise their ability to contribute value and inspire freedom.
For all.
For more than a year, the Op Blue Freedom Team has travelled across the length
of India and trained more than a 100 people paralysed by spinal cord injuries in
Scuba diving. Our first step.
We are presently preparing for Triple World Records, in the three elements of Land,
Sea and Air, by people with disabilities. A statement of hope, inspiration, resilience
and change. For people with disabilities and the able bodied alike across the world.
Sans race, religion or international boundaries.
Freedom is a collective experience. Either we all have it or none of us do.

Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 12 year old who has been accomplishing deeds of tall order, literally. Kaamya started trekking in the Sahyadris from a tender age of three, with her Himalayan odyssey starting in 2015 at the age of 7. Since then, she's been on many high altitude treks like Chandrashila Peak (12000 ft), Har-ki Dun (13500 ft), Kedarkantha (13500 ft), Brighu Lake (14100 ft), Sar pass (13850 ft) and Roopkund (16400 ft). In May 2017, Kaamya trekked to the Everest Base Camp at 17600 ft when she was just 9 yrs old. In August 2017, Kaamya summitted Mt. Stok Kangri at 20187 Ft to become the youngest climber in the world to climb a peak above 20000 Ft or 6000 M. In August 2019, Kaamya summitted Mt Mentok Kangri II (6262 m / 20544 ft) to test her ability to repeatedly conquer such heights. After her experience on Stok Kangri, Kaamya embarked on the ultimate mountaineering challenge, “The Explorers Grand Slam”, to climb the highest peak in all seven continents and ski to the North and South poles. She has named her mission SAHAS – literally meaning ‘Adventure’. She is endeavouring to complete them all by 2022, to become the youngest in the world to achieve the feat at just 14 years of age. Kaamya climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa in Oct 2017, followed by Mt. Elbrus in Jun 2018 and even skiied down from its summit. In Nov 2018, Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia became the third of her 7summits. In Feb 2020, Kaamya stood undeterred and overcame multiple hurdles, administrative, physically and mental to become the Youngest girl in the world to summit Mt. Aconcagua (22837 ft), the highest peak of South America and the highest peak outside Asia. With these climbs, Kaamya hasn’t just summitted four of the 7summits, but hopes to capture the imagination of many young Indians and inspire them to pursue their dreams. She even got the attention of the Honourable Prime Minister, who lauded her efforts in his Mann ki Baat of February 20. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you are here, then most likely you wish to live a life beyond your limits and aspire to be out of your comfort zone. How it all started: born again…… She found her passion for trekking and mountaineering in the Himalayas and did her Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling in 1985-86. The natural progression was to participate in Veteran Athletic Championships in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and US. A record holder in 1500m, 3,000m and 5000m at National Level for three consecutive years, Mala won bronze in 10,000m in Asian Veteran Athletic Championship held in Singapore in 1992. She was a member of the Pre-Everest Expeditions to Mt Kamet in 1991 and to Mt Mamostang Kangri in 1992 and climbed to an altitude of 22000 ft. Scaling Mt. Everest is no mean feat for an athlete of any age and she embarked on this challenge at 62+ as a retired banker! Mala was all set to hoist the national flag on summit of the majestic mountain. But tragedy struck on 25th April, when an earthquake shook the land beneath her feet.
