Simply Put is a podcast that has been designed to break down God's Word into stories and circumstances we can better understand. Whether you'd consider yourself an all-in Christian or have never picked up a Bible before, my heart is that in this podcast, you'd find a home in His Word.
There's a promise in the Bible that God is in the business of making all things new. It's one I've held onto for the last 3 years. In Acts 3, we're told about the time Peter and John heal a man. They're walking by, see him, tell him they've got nothing but Jesus, and instantly he is healed. In today's episode, we're going to look at someone's or somethings that keep us from being healed. We'll talk through what it looks like to walk in freedom and why healing matters. In Acts 2, Luke talks about what happens when the Holy Spirit hits the people. All of a sudden, people are understanding one another in their own language. Is Part 2 of our Philippians 1 study, we're going to look at how Paul encourages us to deal with motive. Not only that but why it's necessary to remain in difficult situations for the sake of growth.

In the last month, I must have sat in on over 50 meetings. Most meetings start with one question, "what are you struggling with, in this season?" It's a fair question and one that needs to be asked. But this morning on my way to watch the sunrise, I felt God nudge me with a different question. "What are you doing well, in this season?" Honestly, I hadn't thought of that question before. Why is it that we're so easy to spout out everything we're doing wrong but we have to search endlessly for the things we're doing right? I think we all can agree, in this season, there are days that we just don't want to do anything. We don't want to get on that ZOOM call, we don't want to call that friend, but here's the deal - in the dark, the enemy can say whatever he wants. So stay in the light. Stay in community. Stay stepping forward.
In this season, it's so easy to serve our emotions without recognizing it. We serve distraction, fear, uncertainty, and doubt in more ways than one. But what if, in this season, God wants to do something powerful through you? What if, when you set aside your small gods, you can catch a glimpse of Who He Is?

We tend to feel the need to get everything in order before we step into what He's called us to do. As we come to the tail end of Day 14 Stay At Home, discouragement and weariness have begun to settle in. Now more than ever, we have to fight to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, His promises, and His goodness.
Ephesians 6:10 tells us to "finally, be strong in The Lord" but how many times have we banked on being strong FOR Him instead?
There's something in us that feels like a bother. We don't ask because we think our problems aren't "real" enough that God would care. In today's Pep Talk we're going to talk about the simple idea that faith honors God and God honors faith.
There's this line in the book of Exodus where God says "I'm gonna use Pharoh to show my glory." We might expect Him to use people that follow Him but what about things that are against Him?
Something in me doesn't want to ask God for more. Most of the time when I'm encouraging people with this, I'm also encouraging myself. We serve a big God who always intended to give us much more than we could ask, think or imagine.
Rest is part of His piece for our life. The song is not over, He has not moved. When we don't know what to do, we have Him to look to.

I know that a lot of channels are reminding you of all the things you can do throughout this time. But friend, it's okay if you don't.
The other day I was browsing through some of my photos and stumbled upon one of my youth group kids playing a game. It was muddy that day and I opted out of playing but as I sat in quarantine I began to think, "if I would have known..." see, if I would have known, I would have done things differently. I wonder, in your own life, what areas are you looking at hand saying, "If I just would have known..." COVID-19 has a weird effect on all of us and I hope these daily pep talks bring your eyes to His hand in your life.
In today's episode, we're going to look at a story in Numbers 22 when God is trying to block Balam's way. Over and over again He's coming to Balam and trying to get him to reroute. But Balam, determined to move forward, pushes past what God has asked Him to do.
There is a story in Exodus 17 that served as the catalyst for this entire series. It's this moment when God tells Moses to strike the rock. I've looked over it and taught the other side but just like a Law and Order SVU Episode, I've found further evidence. Growing up, I heard the story of Moses time and time again but to be honest, I never took time to really understand it. Turns out, Moses is a lot more like us than we would have thought. 6 different times, God asks Moses to "go" and 6 different times Moses tells God how unqualified He is. In Romans 11 Paul tells us, 'look guys, if you had to earn God's grace then it wouldn't be God's grace. It's free, undeserved, and totally up for grabs.' Today on Simply Put, we're going to look at God's grace and put into perspective the things that so easily entangle us.
Earlier this week, I posed a question to my Social Media community and asked them why they so reluctantly talk about their faith. On today's episode we're going to talk about the top 4 answers that I got across the board and how to overcome them.
In seasons of oppression or when it feels like our back is up against a wall, it's easy to wonder why God is doing what He is doing. On today's episode - we're going to take a look at Romans 9: 17 when God tells Pharaoh that He is raising him up for a specific purpose.
Today, we're going to look into Romans 8:18 when Paul basically says, "this suffering is worth it because I know what God can do." We'll talk about what it looks like the fight with prayer and praise. Also, how important it is to remain standing when you're set free.
I wrestled over Episode #16. The Bible is filled with stories about miraculous healings, talking donkeys, and a sea splitting in two. That being said, I am never fond of spending airtime talking about the enemy.
But a few weeks ago, a woman looked at me and said; "the devil is not creative. We have to be more aware of our attacks and the reality that whatever we're experiencing - has probably happened before."
Her words pierced me and sent me on a massive search from Romans 7 to learn more about what the devil isn't.
Here's what I found. he isn't omnipresent. he isn't creative. he isn't truth telling. he isn't our creator.

Can we be honest for a few minutes? Many of us, if we're ugly honest, have spent our lives focused on the principle, "I believe in God because I want to go to Heaven." We've spent our lives so focused on making it to Heaven that we've bound ourselves up in a current hell. In Romans 4:3, we learn, "Abraham believed God" and I can't help but wonder, how much different would our lives be if we started believing God. If we started believing that He is good, He is for you, He is with you, and He loves you.
Today, we're going to be taking a look at the parallels between Romans 3:3 and Number 20: 1-11. Answering one larger question; Is God faithful despite our disobedience?
remember the day so clearly to which my Aunt Sue commented on a picture of me from New Orleans. From the outside look in - it looked like adventure but she knew, from the inside looking out, it looked like being lost. She commented, “Hey girly! Worried about you - feels like there is always a drink in your hand. I hope you’re doing okay.” For a few days, I didn’t respond. Honestly, I. didn’t know how to respond. She was right; I was lost, lonely, with a well put together public image. Indeed, I was not okay.
Her words lingered in my spirit for weeks when I finally reached out to her and told her I wasn’t okay. After our conversation, I became more aware of my behavior but still found myself unable to change. Week after week she sent me encouragement, shared with me sunsets, and scripture to remind me of my purpose in Him.
It took me seven more months to come to the realization that the “wild and free” lifestyle I was living was really causing me to live bound in chains. What if, leading someone back to Christ - either for the fifteenth time or for the first was less about the verses you memorize and more about the kindness you show?
What does it look like to lead someone in kindness back to Christ?
On Episode #10, we’re going to dive into Romans 2:4B and John 8:1-10. My hope is that through these stories, we will find the courage to lead with kindness abounding in His love and grace.
In Romans 1: 11-12 Paul is talking to the church in Rome about this idea of being mutually encouraging AKA running the race set for YOU to run. On todays episode we're going to look at how hope, focus, and investment play into this spiritual gift.
I messed up. I began looking at the race other women were running and deemed their strategy as mine. I started planning to launch two episodes a week. One episode on scripture and the other on implementation of that scripture. It sounds good, it sounds right, it sounds like hustle, it sounds beneficial except, it wasn't what God asked me to do.
Before Simply Put ever began God reaffirmed over and over again that it was not my job to give good advice but an honor to share God's wisdom. It was not my place to impart my strategy. It was only my place to embrace His sovereignty.
James 4:17 says, "If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them" through this verse I prayed for clarity. In His presence, I felt conviction.
From the outside looking in, maybe launching these types of episodes didn't look like a sin but from the inside looking out I knew - it wasn't what He had asked me to do. It's been five weeks since I've touched my microphone. Five weeks of receiving His grace and waiting in His presence for my next step.

Over the last week and a half we've been studying the book of Mark. I got stuck in Mark chapter 5 when I began looking at the life of Legion. There is so much to learn about the way Jesus sees us when we are out of control.

Over and over again, I have heard people tell me to "let my walls down". This idea, this phrase, says "what you've built is too high for others to get in." In the book of Nehemiah, we are introduced to a new way of thinking and we are shown a picture of what it looks like to rebuild walls that have been in ruins.
This past January I woke up to a text from a friend that said, "honestly, I think God is tired of your excuses". I knew she was right and yet something about stepping forward in obedience to what He asked me to do was terrifying. This week, we are going to dive into the way in which Jesus steps forward in obedience and what we can learn from His order.
Can I be honest with you guys for a minute? Sometimes, I kinda like the funk I am in. Sometimes, it's easier for me to stay where I am than it is to admit I need the healing power of God. In John chapter 5 we learned about a man who has been lying on a mat for 38 years! Jesus prompts this man to be healed, looks past his response, and commissions him to go forward and speak of Jesus's healing power. Join me today as we dive into this story, what prompts this healing, and what we can learn from the way this man responds.
