On this week's podcast we welcome Jo Clancy. Discovering her neurodiversity with a diagnosis of ADHD at 30 years old, Jo shares her experience of life before and after a diagnosis. Sharing about her many side quests, like Photography, post-carding, traveling, giving ultrasounds in Africa, and so much more! Below is a statement from Jo...
I have had a broad background of careers and interests (ADHD for the win!), working in the Insurance industry, restaurant (front of the house and back), animal industry (ranch manager, horse trainer, zookeeper, exotic animal vet tech), and currently ultrasound. I originally went to college for graphic design and still get a lot of joy from artistic hobbies (photography especially), and later went to veterinary school, with a focus in exotics and wildlife. I used to scuba, rock climb, trail run, ride horses, and now ride a motorcycle, garden, knit, travel and make postcards from my photographs, which I send all over the world in a group called Post crossing. I have volunteered in some capacity for most of my life, giving my mom credit for that passion. I worked as a volunteer for therapeutic riding programs, wildlife rehabilitation, sea turtle conservation, raising money for scholarships at the MSU Wine Festival, and many more.
Looking back at this I can see why I drove my somewhat conventional parents mad! 🙂

This weeks episode begins our emPOWRD journey!
I have been listen, learning and humaning for a while now and just like you life has thrown me a few curve balls. The way I have responded has been to understand how to stay resilient, how to care for myself, so I can then show up fully for the people and situations in my life. AND I when life got really hard I decided I wanted to live the hard things fully so I can embrace and celebrate the good and beautiful things. My tag line has become, "it's a hard and beautiful life"- that's just the truth of it.Â
So here is the beginning of me sharing some of the tools I use to figure out to ride the waves of this human life, which has ultimately led me to living a more authentic aligned life.. I call this my toolkit . This has turned into a "program" I offer to others so you can build your own toolkit and live your most beautiful, hard precious life.Â

What have you learned this year?
Renn Havill (@coachrennhavill) is the graduate assistant volleyball coach at Glenville State College and the editor of the Zen Mama & Everyday Gurus podcast.
UNTAMING: Stories of young women finding meaning and purpose through intentional living. These women speak openly and honestly about their lived experiences and how that has awakened in them the need to change old ways of being and living today, now.
From motherhood to working in corporate America, from being a women in the male dominated world of athletics to working in mental health and being a voice for change for future generations.
These conversations are with women finding that authentic, untamed truth within and speaking up and out. They want a place at the table of change and they are struggling to find their way just like the rest of us AND they are doing it, despite the fear, uncertainty and shame that is universal us all.
Listen to this series and you will find rawly relatable, heart touching, and frustrating experiences of sexual assault, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, sexism. You will hear courage and hope and the struggle to understand and redirect.

This week's episode is with Jenn Kautsch, aka Sobersis! Here is Jenn's story...
"I'm Jenn (aka SoberSis). I'm a new empty nester and people ask me all the time what I'm going to do in this next season of my life. Well, you're looking at it. I feel passionate about making it safe for women to have a conversation about alcohol without judgment, labels, or rules. I'm a retired "grey area" drinker. Around the middle of my 40's, I was tired, feeling stuck on auto-pilot, and ready for a change. I didn't want to enter the big 5-0 the way I did 40. I took a closer look at my life. My health...mental, physical, and spiritual. I began to find out ways to have more energy, better sleep, and really stay present in my own life. I began to realize wine wasn't doing me any real favors. In fact, it was undoing a lot of my hard work during the day (I call it the detox just to retox loop). It had also become like an emotional crutch to lean on during times of anxiety or even boredom!
So, I started the 21-day reset for women because I wanted to share what I have learned and experienced first hand."

This episode is for the Moms of addicts.Â
All of the emotions that you feel are real.. the guilt, shame, anger, fear... You can own whatever part of the journey that you feel is real and belongs to you--but you did not create their addiction and you are not the one that is going to save them from it. What you can do is love them unconditionally and meet them on the other side.Â
Together we can speak our truth, and develop practices to breathe and let go. We can’t stop the waves of struggle, but together we can learn how to surf.

Sonia Chevalier is our guest this week. To describe her journey, she shares..
"Mom had me when she was a teenager, and her journey with addiction was just starting. To say I had a rocky childhood would be an understatement. As a teen my life became consumed with abuse, addiction, and mental illness. My road to recovery was messy and painful. I met some amazing women along the way, and they showed me how to walk through life while dealing with pain and trauma. They showed me that it is possible to let myself feel intense grief and shame, and that it was possible to do that without numbing myself with drugs and alcohol, or using the distraction of relationships. During these 9 years of recovery I've experienced some of the most incredible moments of my life. I've also experienced some of the most painful, heart wrenching experiences. I've learned that just because I got clean, life doesn't just fall into place and get better. I still have a mother who struggles with addiction and extreme mental illness. I still struggle with feelings of inadequacy and low self worth. I still have to push myself every day to be honest and do the right thing. It's not easy, but it's worth it."

How do we keep holding on to hope when we continue to get hurt and manipulated by the addict?Â
Sometimes it seems impossible to stay on this journey as a mom, child, partner, grandmother, sibling... any of us that try to walk beside the addict. We compromise our integrity and resiliency to try and understand and live with the fear of relapse. There is so much collateral damage the addict leaves in their wake. How do we let go, set boundaries, heal and find our way forward?Â
