Nicole studied psychology because humans and their behavior fascinate her and she wanted to better understand herself. This was the beginning of a lifelong adventure of self-discovery which led to travel worldwide. Wherever Nicole goes she finds herself in interesting conversations with others. She created the Wise Human podcast as a space where she and guests share their authentic human experience and what they've learned along the way, with the intention to inspire others to live fully in their truth, unapologetically. Nicole feels most free when she is outside, traveling, and connecting with others. She is a certified yoga instructor, meditation guide, and host of the Wise Human podcast.

Perennial guests Amnestie Lillian Tate VerDuin and Jenn Vanderploeg join me in a special episode highlighting each of their pieces in this ArtPrize 2022.
Gateway in the Garden (by Amnestie): "I want to create a large-scale woodcut featuring floral elements, botanical plants, animals, pollinators, etc. local to Michigan and more specifically the city of Grand Rapids. Wood-carving takes lots of small cuts, planning, adjusting...there is something very organic about the process that parallels so heavily in my mind to nature and life. I think it would be beautiful to create and carve this piece over the course of the event and in front of viewers. Once the carving is complete, I hope to print the piece in front of the public as well."
Ascension (by Jenn): "Who doesn't feel a thrill with freshly fallen snow? This Friesian Stallion is exuberantly enjoying a romp in the deep MI snow! This 54"x72"x2" painting is representational of my favorite style of painting; impactful, playful and uplifting to view! The horse is a symbol of spirit, freedom and strength; Just as strong as they are soft and connecting. They teach us to be mindful, present and to enjoy the moment!"

My dear friend Kelly Carbary is a 16-year Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) veteran who has now begun a different path in her military career. In 2006 Kelly enlisted as an army supply specialist and transitioned to the dark side to become an army commissioned officer in 2010; commissioning from the University of Michigan as an army aviator. She pushed herself through many challenges in her military career, to include successfully passing Airborne School, Air Assault School, SERE School, and obtaining a commercial pilot certificate for rotor wing aircraft in the UH-60 A/L/M Black Hawk. But her story doesn’t stop there! Influenced by her grandfather’s resilience and grit, and by her time as a military leader, she decided to embark down a road towards working in another difficult career – Medicine. She will graduate from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2023 as an Osteopathic Physician, and she has goals to stay in the MIARNG as a flight surgeon. Listen as she explains her story, all while encouraging everyone to be kind to themselves because too often we are strong and kind to others, but we sometimes forget to do the same for ourselves. It's been on our hearts for a while to release a series on Mental Health, but this is also a topic that is naturally quite sensitive in nature. We aren't sure how many episodes will be incorporated in this series, but as we move forward, we want to bring to light the things that live in the dark. We also want to preserve the fidelity and integrity of those that are professionals and experts in this field, so we will be inviting some people that are much smarter than we are to talk about these things.
This first episode we talk about Ashlen's panic/anxiety attacks, a little bit about the science behind what those are, and why they come about. Anxiety is widely felt among all of humanity, however our responses are vastly different, and we talk about what we can do and the tools we can put in our belt to help in those most vulnerable times.
If you are someone who deals with anxiety, depression, or thoughts of suicide, please seek professional help as you are a precious human being who is loved. We want to help you, if you don't know who to reach out to, email us below and we will get you in touch with professionals who can help you.

Do any of us truly have cognitive autonomy? In this past week, the US was yet again divided strongly over the verdict of Kyle Rittenhouse. This polarizing news almost forced every American to choose a side: either he was using self-defense and this showed the justice system works, or this was the perpetuating narrative of white supremacy.
My good friend Tom joins Ashlen and myself on todays Podcast. The conversation today does not revolve around the events of what took place in Kenosha, WI, but rather we are asking the question "Why do I believe" a certain thing about what we believe? It's a much denser, and honestly more important question. And the viral and divisive verdict of Kyle Rittenhouse is a perfect example of the exposure of these belief structures.
This is the link to the article read in the beginning of the episode: https://kareem.substack.com/p/why-the-kyle-rittenhouse-verdict?fbclid=IwAR1SdcsyWFl1VZtAPS_S9DbEk1VEsHAba3_wI1MwxGa5uAsiemX0BLm9Dio

The universe is so wild. I met Sam through the TURO app renting a car from him out in San Diego, which led us to super interesting conversations, and naturally we had to do a podcast while I was out there. And it was even more radically eye-opening than I could have imagined. He introduced me to Jared and the conversation that took place is what everyone needs to be talking about.
They run the GrowTogether Podcast, which features "conversations with the movers-and-shakers furthering access to natural medicine and wellness. We shed light on new developments in how people are growing and using natural substances and foster conversations about our rights and responsibilities as growers, practitioners, and consumers. We talk with entrepreneurs, cultivators, doctors, scientists, practitioners, spiritual leaders, thought leaders about the revolution in natural health and wellness."
Check out www.growtogethernetwork.com for more information.

I lost my mom just over a month ago to cancer. It was 10 weeks from the time she found the bump on the back of her head until she passed. I haven't had the words or space to share much about this, or the ability to process as it's been so much. This episode, I get to honor my mom.
I had the privilege of sitting down and doing a crossover podcast with a great friend of mine Jason Maupin, a motivational speaker and the director of Elevate Industries (www.elevateindustries.com) as well as the host for the Elevate Industries Podcast. We talk about grief and how to process unresolved pain.
My dad also sat down with me and got to share with me what life was like as a kid, how he and my mom met, as well as the story of him sharing the last few days with my mom. This was by far my favorite recording I've done and will stay with me the rest of my life.
The small recordings are of a few friends of my mom at her memorial, as well as her 3 brothers at the end of the podcast.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, for all the love and support from family and friends.

I get to sit down with one of my favorite humans on this earth, Rachel Elery as she shares her story of the construction and deconstruction of her faith. This is a story that is so unique, so incredibly special, Rachel is a person of depth and density, and I'm just so thankful we get to hear her tell part of her story on this episode of Mark Explains.

On today’s podcast, we are talking all about Self Love and how important it is to first love ourselves. We get to chat with 2 great friends of ours, the first is an old friend of the show, Danny Prada who actually was on the very first episode titled “when it all falls apart”. He is a pastor of a church down in south Florida called Heartway Church, you can find his stuff on www.heartwaychurch.com and also find him on instagram and facebook at heartway church, and he also posts his Sunday sermons on Podbean and iTunes podcast.
The second is also an old friend of ours and such a bright light in this world we live in, and young woman named Toni Inskeep. And we just love her and her perspective that she brings to this show today, we know you will appreciate all she has to give. We will definitely be having her back on the show in future episodes, so we are excited about that.

Today’s episode is quite a bit different from our typical layout. Today we are talking with 2 great friends of mine and entrepreneurs right here in the Denver area. This podcast will not have the feel that the other ones do, I wanted to keep these conversations as raw and real as I could. So they are pretty straight forward.
The first half I get to interview a great friend, Justin Bizzaro who is an entrepreneur and has been in the food industry for half of his life. But even more exciting, he recently launched a podcast called Justin and the food entrepreneurs which can be found on Podbean, iTunes, iHeart radio, Spotify and Google Play, this guy is a podcasting machine! He’s only been publishing podcasts for a few weeks and is about to release episode 7, which is crazy! Please check him out, Justin and the food entrepreneurs.
https://justinandthefoodentrepreneurs.podbean.com/
The second half of this podcast I get the distinct privilege of chatting with a great friend of mine Nick Riggin. He is an entrepreneur and personal trainer in the greater Denver area. 26 years old, and goes by “no toes nick” which is, as we will see, such a crazy and incredible life story of how a simple accident reframed his entire world. This story is so incredibly inspirational and where he’s come as a human, i’m just so honored to be able to sit and chat with him. I know that you’re going to love his story and why he’s called no toes nick.
"I love it “when you see how quickly life can be taken from you, you start to view opportunity a little different and treat people a little better” I like to say that most people “accept” their life, they don’t “lead” their life. We are all the authors of our story, but we are also the only ones who can pick up the pen and start writing it." -Nick

Happy New Year!! We took a short break for the holiday, but we're back with arguably one of our favorite discussions to date. In this one, we discuss the fragility of this beautiful oasis we live on, as we push to flip our perspective from inward, to outward. We talk about planet earth, and how we can have an orbital perspective and begin to love every human on earth.

Ashlen, Lauren Kuiper and Julie Lynn join me again in this episode as they help me co-host this part 2 of Multilevel Christianity.
In this one, we dive into why individuals get sucked into those Multilevel Marketing schemes, and why those individuals are also likely from a religious background of sorts. And also Julie Lynn gives us a stellar teaching on how humans learn, as well as Ashman dives into some pillars of beliefs. Basically, we talk about all the things.

I've been excited to record this episode since I started recording these podcasts! Ashlen Blythe joins me in part 1 of what we are calling Multilevel Christianity. Ashlen just has a great mind for asking the questions that I don’t see and just adds so much to this podcast. You’ll likely be seeing a lot more of him around here, as I’m honored to say that he’s agreed to become a more regular part of this show. And I’m just so excited about that.
In this one we are breaking down the science of how the brain works, how it’s built, how centrals beliefs play into everyday life, and where those are physically located in the brain, it’s wild. But more importantly, we are going into the “WHY” of this topic, and why it’s important that we know how the brain works when it comes to central belief.
Next week in part 2, We will be diving into why individuals get sucked into those Multilevel Marketing schemes, and why those individuals are also likely from a religious background of sorts. And also Julie Lynn and Lauren Kuiper will be joining us next week, and rumor is that Julie is going to give a stellar breakdown on how humans learn, I’m so pumped about that.
Again, Thanks for listening in to the Mark Explains podcast, and be sure to join us next week for Part 2 of Multilevel Christianity.

If you haven't listened to the other podcasts in this Uncensored Christian series yet, I urge you to go back and listen to the other stories. They are so riveting, and deep, and life-giving!

Julie Lynn Sodeman, Ashlen Blythe, and Lauren Kuiper join me again in Episode 5 - Uncensored Christian Part 2
In this episode, Julie Lynn tells some of her story, and we were just so moved that we felt it needed to be its own episode. This story is nothing shy of incredible.
Julie is a 31 year old marathon runner with RBF almost constantly. She's in the process of getting her Ph.D. and basically has been in school her whole life, she does yoga, and I honestly don't know how she travels so much. Like seriously. There really isn't anything this chick can't do (besides fix her car, which she has gracefully given that task over to me and with it, a sense of purpose in her life).
We also decided to turn the second part of the podcast into 2 parts (Part 2 with Julie and Part 3 with me) simply because there was so much content we felt needed to stay with Julie's story. So we released this episode a day early on Monday, and we will be releasing Part 3 tomorrow!
Thanks for listening in to the second part of Uncensored Christian, and make sure to tune in TOMORROW where we wrap things up with my story in Part 3 of the Uncensored Christian.

Julie Lynn Sodeman, Ashlen Blythe, and Lauren Kuiper join me in Episode 4 - Uncensored Christian Part 1
In this episode, Ashlen and Lauren tell the story of their journey through faith - genesis to deconstruction - in this very raw and real conversation.
Ashlen is a former pastor, attended Fort Myers Masters Commission in 2005/2007, and is married to Jessica. His favorite pass-time is playing fetch with his 3 year old son David with sticks of beef jerky, and trolling Trump Facebook pages.
Lauren is an aspiring kickball player and a Nurse Practitioner (in the works). She also formerly led worship for many years, and is now living as a wine-drinking post-evangelical, who tells her story in the most raw and real way possible.
Thanks for listening in to this Part 1 of Uncensored Christian, and make sure to tune in next week where Julie and myself get to share all about our stories.

The question of "what do you believe" has been a question that was littered throughout my upbringing, especially being raise evangelical. But the question now that is much more interesting to me is WHY do you believe what you believe? The question behind the question.
In this episode, I get the honor of talking to my great friend [ABD] Dr. Matt Beal, as we dive into this question and all that encompasses the "why" behind the "what"... Why we believe what we believe.
We talk about space, the bible, Einsteinian Relativity, cognative biases, love, hope, faith, all the things. This converstation stretched me and really challenged me and what I believe.
Please feel free to email Matt with any followup questions you might have, or just say hello! He'd love to hear from you, and check out his blog below!

What a fun episode this was to record! On episode 2, I get to talk with my dear friend Brandie, who is this radiant human who challenges me to the deepest parts of my existance. Journalism major --> turned yogi/world traveler --> turned outdoor adventure guide, she bring so much depth and soul to this conversation. We talk about when we know something, and, something that is so fundamental in our lives, and it fall apart. That thing no longer is the thing. The deconstruction of certain foundations in life.

In this first episode of Mark Explains, Pastor Danny Prada joins me for a riviting conversation about how to continue gracefully when you have a faith crisis (deconstruction of faith). We dive into the depths of some of the toughest questions we've had to face, and even touch on some science on the "why" and the "how" your brain works and why those things are important. You don't want to miss this!
Danny is the pastor of Heartway Church in south Florida. His viewpoint is refreshing, and hisYou can find his work at https://www.heartwaychurch.com/
